My headcanon about lunas appearance is that she basically matured rapidly after being freed/cought up with how she would've aged, considering celestia looked just as basic when she was young.
I have a couple theories for this! I'm guessing the aging was either caused by: 1. Luna being stuck inside Nightmare Moon, like Stygian (sorry if I spelled his name wrong). Maybe she was inside some kind of limbo herself, where time was frozen and prevented her from aging? Or 2. Being stuck on the moon, I dunno how time works up there (and maybe the time on *our* moon works differently than time on the Equestrian moon-) but maybe time passed slower there?
We see flashbacks to them being together before she was banished and she looks like her adult self. I just think of it as her being "cleansed" of Nightmare Moon and getting a fresh start, like time reset for her as a means of giving her a chance to rebuild a better relationship with Celestia from the ground up. I mean, I know it's just that they wanted to redesign her to look less childish, but I like this concept lol.
because of the color shift, as a kid i always thought that the elements of harmony removed the "darkness" of nightmare moon. that's why she's so much lighter. her alicorn magic was stripped away because it held her evil-ness leaving her in that smaller state. she only grows a bit when we see her next, despite the colors shifting. i theorize that - like tirek later on - so much of her magic was sucked away that it physically shrunk her. similar philosophy for why nightmare moon was huge, she just had that much power. i felt like that kinda explains it?
iirc celestia looking simple when she was young is actually fanon! based on the intro of the show and possibly comic canon, celestia always had her rainbow hair even as a filly in the show

Here is how I would write the scene:Nightmare Moon offers AppleJack an opportunity to take a shortcut and replace her with a perfect replica as long as she doesn’t tell anyone. She refuses the offer and tells her friends even though they would never have known if she hadn’t told them.
Personal theory that probably doesn’t make sense in the canon: the more saturated one’s magic, the more powerful they are. Example being twilight starts out with pastel pink magic, but as time goes on it became a lot more vibrant as her magic becomes stronger.
Oooh! Maybe it eventually becomes so overpowering it has to flow somewhere like their manes, which makes them all flowy! And that's why Luna looked different!

The horn, hair, and hooves are all made of keratin and are all pretty magic in pony land :D oh and in gen 3 pinkiepie would swish her hair and it would glitter and she’d be able to project her ideas aka a ‘pinkie squink’
About the "Unicorn magic vs. Alicorn magic" debate, I would like to point out that, later on in the series, it is stated that Unicorns were the ones who raised the sun/moon before the Princesses came along (of course, they couldn't do it efficiently, but they still had the capability). So, in a similar way to how Pegasus magic is made up of many aspects (weather manipulation, flight, etc.), celestial manipulation can very well be considered a subsect of Unicorn magic, which, in turn, is a subsect of Alicorn magic. Thus, it can be argued that it is specifically the Unicorn aspect _of_ the Alicorn magic, making "Unicorn magic" still work as a descriptor.
That's why in the video I did say I won't fully discourage anyone from thinking that it's unicorn magic~ But in my eyes, I count anything magical an alicorn does as "alicorn magic" since it is coming from an alicorn. Because if we do the opposite, then wouldn't that mean all magic alicorns do with their horns as unicorn magic? At what point is something unicorn magic vs alicorn magic? Since alicorn magic is stated to be a thing...where is the line drawn? XD But that's just my line of thinking LOL

Honestly the term alicorn magic annoys me, because not only is the term used in a totally contrived way ( they just happen to meet Zecora fleeing her home after all but one princess disappeared who just happened to have brewed, bottled and taken with her a potion to see important flashbacks that ONLY works for Twilight!) And the alicorn "magic" is just a sloppily reused show asset (Sombra's evil unicorn magic.)
please take note that before the sisters controlled the sun and moon, a group of old unicorns used to do this... perhaps alicorn magic is just a stronger version of unicorn magic like firaga and fire spell...
6:25 Lauren Faust said in a tweet (when she was still working on the show) that they were born alicorns BUT the infamous quotes Celestia and Luna said Still matters because of what Luna said, if it's "beyond their understanding" that means they have never seen/heard of it happening not just in Equestria but in general, so it's really unclear still.
And in G5 it's confirmed that they were in fact born alicorns. WHICH ONLY MEANS that NONE of the writers exchanged notes when writing some of the lore of this story XD
Now "beyond their understanding" doesnt just point to that, it also could mean that they just don't know how it is possible that it happened in Equestria or how it happens through an "artificial" Alicorn, that Cadence also is, as Celestia and Luna are born Alicorns originating from somewhere else (Was it Skyros?).

The other error with the scene is that Applejack says “like caramel on a candy apple” which is inaccurate since candy apples are coated in a candy coating not caramel. Which AJ would know since she works on an apple farm that regularly makes these treats.
I think the reason why Fluttershy acted so out of character is that maybe the party served alcohol. That also would explain why she acted the way that she did in the season one finale. Fluttershy is probably a lightweight, reckless-drunk, and maybe the party served juice at 0.5 abv and she drank enough of it, (Which is probably one glass for her😂)she may have experienced the effects.
Outside of being forced into joining the line for cider by Rainbow in "Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000" Fluttershy (to my knowledge) has never had anything remotely alcoholic, but it's entirely possible she's a lightweight alcoholic. If that was the case, I'd expect her to either be sleepy or staying near the back of the group as she would be slighty slower

Fluttershy being willing to walk into the Everfree Forest is just for the sake of plot. Another egregious example is Suited for Success. Fluttershy is just 100% okay with being on a stage in Rarity’s clothes.
Ah, gotta love it when hidden inconsistencies are pointed out that I never would've noticed before. Most of the first season was the show still trying to figure out what it wanted to be. Once we got to season 2, the characters and world were fully established and the show was able to expand on them even more. I find it fascinating that majority of season 1 is set in Ponyville. We also see Canterlot, Cloudsdale, and Appleloosa, but that's it. But then in season 2, we travel all over Equestria with much more episodes set outside the main hubworld of Ponyville. Also, speaking of inconsistencies, what's up with the train in Over a Barrel?! That's a mind boggling one.

OH! That's a good catch. Though I think the information came from two different authors. The one who said that NM was permanently banished came from Twi's storybook whereas the prophecy was from the book in her library. It is true that it is conflicting information. Celestia definitely knew that NM would reappear one day, so...idk why that first book said what it said...probably for shock value for the audience if I had to guess!
29:03 ok, I have a problem with this scene. It’s not really an objective one, but my opinion. Celestia was way too put together here. You’re telling me she patiently waited a whole ONE THOUSAND FREAKING YEARS for her sister to come back, and is not even the least bit emotional upon seeing her again (I know she is slightly later when Luna runs up to her, but that’s barely anything). And yes, I am aware Celestia is pretty good at her royal mask, but surely, if there was ever a time for her to get very emotional, it would be this moment.
I think it's more complex than the assumption of Celestia simply masking up her royal demeanor to conceal her real emotions when Luna returned from the moon. I'd rather suspect that a healthy amount of detachment was something Celestia had to embody for a thousand years, which would explain this measure of emotional distance she expressed when she finally saw Luna. To have an undying amount of patience in waiting on someone's return for that long, while trudging through with her grief and regrets as she kept up that high-demand role for her kingdom, she needed to have her emotional regulation constantly in check. In fact, being too attached during someone's millennial absence, especially when being the reason of her banishment, would essentially be counterintuitive psychologically speaking. I'd use this reasoning as to why Celestia wasn't inclined to bawl her eyes out during Luna's return, but was emotionally invested enough that she had shed a tear the moment she got that long-awaited embrace with her sister. It's that right time to let the right amount of water works leak out, I'd say.
throw in the fact that caramel apples and candy apples are two different things (at least where i live, idk about anywhere else in the world.) so Applejack's "stickin' ta you like caramel on a candy apple" didn't make sense to me. also, loved your Starlight art at the end ^_^

Only plausible explanation; in "Amending Fences" when Twilight brings Pinkie to Canterlot in order to throw a party and get Moondancer back to being an outgoing pony Minuette and Pinkie hug and Pinkie says they know each other from Minuette's visists to Ponyville

I've thought about it a lot. And I know a solution that would fix MOST of the points mentioned here. Making the Nightmare Moon episodes the final of the season! The mane 6 would be shown to get along slowly and we'd be given hints at what their elements will be. Twilight could've been sent there a week before the celebration and spend time helping each pony to prepare and eventually bond with them. She could still be skeptic about friendship, but the final trials with NM by the end of the season would show her the true power of it. Btw CMC could be shown to attend school for the first year and that would explain how they only now properly met. But maybe make Apple and Sweetie know each other a bit and Scoot only now moving to town to her aunties with her parents leaving for the trip. Otherwise it seems VERY rushed. Especially considering how toxic Twi's first interactions with Pinkie and RD were. (Personally I wouldn't try to befriend them after such first impression.) So throughout the season they'd get a chance to show their better side and work on themselves. Other cons I can forgive for it being the pilot and a kids show originally. And yes, it does not excuse the poor writing, but I can see how it came to be and still enjoy the episodes.

15:31- the CMC situation in the show, they show FAR more children in the later seasons! There ARE more schools, we just don't see it because they don't bother showing it. I just think the girls got transfered over later for different reasons.
I know the lack of kids was more on the animation than there not actually being other kids. Having said that, the official map of Ponyville shows that there is only 1 school (other than the School of Friendship). I agree that only 1 school doesn't make sense for how many kids should be in Ponyville but...whatever I guess XD

Once the CMC get their CM, they basically stopped going to school and they were seen getting their CMs pretty late by other standards so... could be possible that once they get it they aren't legally obligated to stay in school and are allowed to leave (with the expectation that they'd either start a job or get an apprenticeship). The ones we see in the school are also a rarity (lol) and there are some we never see again after a while. The kids there just may not have gotten an apprenticeship or we're left in for different reasons. Scoots and Sweetie coming in later due to parental issues (seriously hate Scoots parents).
In "Call of the Cutie" it's less likely that the pre-CMCs don't know each other but are merely aware of each other. Apple Bloom seems familiar when seeing them at Diamond Tiara's cutesenera as being in Cheerilee's class, but outside of this their hiding together could just be that they're depicted near each other before Nightmare Moon's arrival
🦄 You know, one of the things I love most about your videos is how, despite me often sharing a lot of the same opinions as you, your analysis often help me look at things from another perspective and think about aspects of media I consume that I hadn't considered before, either in a more critical way or to appreciate aspects I didn't notice before. Well, this "review" did exactly that for the premiere episodes of FiM. 😆 There are certainly certain details that would later go on to become inconsistencies (which as you pointed out, isn't uncommon for pilots as even the writers, artists, and other showrunners are still figuring out the characters and world), but that doesn't really derail from either its entertainment value, nor the importance it had on the impact G4 would eventually come to have. This wasn't my first MLP episode either, but once I decided to check out the show properly, it did a fantastic job of helping me "get" this show, its lore, its characters, and get a taste of what it had to offer moving forward. Man, this show was just lighting in a bottle. I miss it, but at the same time, I'm glad that it happened and that it ended the way it did. 😊💖

The IDW comic (yes I know non-cannon whatever) "Friendship is Magic 20/20" has the main six 'slip' through a hole Dash accidently tears in time when she performs a sonic rainboom during a thunderstom while they're all wearing their Elements of Harmony. This sends all six back in time to the instant they got their cutie marks and encounter their past selves. Past Celestia even meets with Twilight and urges her to take her younger self to Ponyville to meet the others. The main sixmeet as fillies and after some adventures Celestia arrives to see them off, sealing the younger ponies memories away to maintain the timeline, but the spell unlocks when the main six return to the present, remembering experiancing the whole day with their older selves. If this is true (I know, questionable and all) it might be why the other five hung out together even if Dash found Pinkie annoying and Rarity and AJ were frustrated with eachother. They had some connection they weren't aware of but drew them all together. On the other hoof Ponyville is just a small town, and they might have been aquaintences before Twilight and just occasionally bumped into eachother. But as AJ pointed out in season 4 episode 1 "The Summer Sun Celebration may have brought us together, but it's something much bigger that'll always keep us connected." Twilight was the final piece that unlocked their unity as friends. Before that they were just casual aquaintences probably.
I'm 17 and I watch the show because I lost my childhood at a young age due to abuse and medical issues and this is my confort show since I was little but the only things I have wrong for it is not the creators fault but the Community's fault and I'm talking about the dark side the AUs but I won't say the AU due to children could be reading this but you understand I just want to watch the show without seeing the dark side

You know Alou, this show have been over for quite some time, not fear spoiling stuff! Also, later episodes heavily implied that celestia and luna, just like twilight, achieved their alicorn statuses.
It's impressive, really, how these episodes led to like a boom in things. I still look back at FiM and feel like it was the first fandom I grew up with, well, besides Archie Sonic and Gravity Falls.
I would like to point out that the scene of the main 6 going into the forest, not only is but against fluttershys character, but Rainbow dash is missing her tail...so there's that xD
I didn't know what MLP was until I watched Friendship is Magic. The first episode I saw was the first episode, and I was hooked. So I asked my dad to check out some My Little Pony DVDs at the library, and when he did they were of the older generation (the one with the random humans in it). That was when I learned that this show was actually a reboot of a very old show that gets rebooted every so often. Watching some of those episodes of the old generation, made me like Friendship is Magic even more, because of how better written it was. I always thought Nightmare Moon was so cool.
The two sisters dynamic is pretty similar to Mata-Nui and Makuta from Bionicle. Mata-Nui is light, Makuta is darkness and Makuta put Mata-Nui to a thousand year slumber because Makuta was jealous over all the people affection towards Mata-Nui
I've recently had this idea stirring in my mind for an AU. In the episode "Magical Mystery Cure," all of the main characters except for Twilight get their cutie marks mixed up, all struggling to carry out tasks they aren't meant for. But, what if they were? There's no rain-boom, but it's not instantly the end of the world. Rainbow Dash gets a cutie mark for working with animals. Rarity gets her's by controlling the weather. Applejack is genuinely good at designing clothes, etc. They also all now have their elements switched as well (Rainbow Dash is kindness, Rarity gets loyalty, Applejack is generous, etc.). Celestia gets a more detailed prophecy, saying that the events of the canon pilot will occur, with each having a destined element. However, this is a different dimension. These are different ponies. Still, they band together to defeat Nightmare Moon, showing their true elements. It's a fun little thought experiment.
One thing that bothers me is that when Nightmare Moon first appears, Twi is the only one who seems to recognize who she is, when it's established that almost everypony knows who she is, both when Spike says that it's and old ponys tale as well as the fact there is an ENTIRE HOLIDAY about her.
I would just like to mention that in "Call Of The Cutie" before we meet SweetieBelle and Scootaloo, there are 2 that look exactly like them, before they are replaced and never used again.... A blue pony with Scootaloo's mane and tail (only blue) with a bow and arrow for a cutiemark And a green-ish pony with a yellow version of SweetieBelle's mane and tail.... Then when Scootaloo and SweetieBelle are introduced, we just never see these 2 again -------------------- And about the Luna hair thing, I would like to make a theory that the magic of "raising" the moon since Celestia took over that job it makes her hair flowy, and as we see in later seasons, they can "transfer" their powers, so I believe that Celestia gave Luna the power of raising the moons again which caused Luna's current appearance.
It always bugged me that Scootaloo and Sweetiebell weren't in the same class as Applebloom when we first saw the class. I also agree with Applejacks trial as well. I can't believe with how many times I watched the show not noticing how Fluttershy wasn't scared of the ever free forest in the first episode. I can't believe I missed it. One thing I'm sad about is the writers writing out Twilights spunky attitudes after season 2. I miss sassy twilight and would've loved to see a sassy Alicorn. 😂
Ok this was NOTHING like I was expecting when I saw the title. I was expecting a few moments for this here and that there over the whole series since it was under an hour but 40 minutes on just the opener has me excited because of the detail that you went into BUT mostly because I've watched and rewatched this particular episode(s) over 5 dozen times and NEVER caught all those referances the only 1 I did was the CMC (first episodes ever where scare master and show stoppers so CMC = best pony for me) I really, really, REALLY!, hope you are planning to do more of these because I would really love to see the flaws and inconsistencies pointed out. My self persoanlly love the show as a whole as I am a fan of G1 till now ( love G1 G3 and 3.5 G5 pony life and everything) loved this and I hope this is the start of more
4:30 actually, before MLP gen 4, "alicorn" was just another word for "unicorn": a horned horse. The horse could have wings or not, many named "alicorn" creatures that aren't mlp gen 4 or inspired, were simple wingless unicorns.

16:05 it's likely for Applebloom to not know about Sweetie Belle, because in the Sisterhooves social episode, Rarity's parents drop Sweetie Belle to Rarity's house to go on vacations, and for most of the episode, Rarity seems not to enjoy spending time with Sweetie Belle (that contradicts Forever Filly). So I suppose Sweetie Bell usually lives with her parents, which we barely see in the whole show even as backgroud ponies (do their vacations last that much, or they just don't live anywhere near Ponyville, anyway they probably weren't around before either), and Rarity would probably not talk about her sister that much.
also for Scoots not being at school, we don't exactly know when her parents dropped her at her aunts, maybe just like Sweetie Belle, she just arrived and wasn't going to school yet?
okay, you noticed that part too... But I think maybe Sweetie Belle just had a little school where her parents live, and Scoot might have just been to school for the first time, as they're fairly young it could very well be their first year.

Though I actually did hear a rumor that season one was supposed to be about Twilight getting to bond and know the other five and then finally the finale was supposed to be them all coming together to stop Nightmare Moon. I personally would have enjoyed it much more but honestly I love it either way, whether there’s any truth to the rumor or not 😊

I agree about the faults but at least you can still appreciate the show. The biggest issue I have is the awkward fanbase, although I don't see as many creepy bronies anymore. I kinda feel like Bluey is turning into the same thing that My Little pony was... creeps ruining a show that kids and adults are supposed to enjoy. Cartoons like this are meant to be enjoyed by BOTH kids and adults, and but not the type of adults who want to watch "adult" things. I'm talking adults who care about story and not just p*rn addicts or people obsessed with gore and blood.
Celestia and Luna were VERY young kids and were probably NEVER told about Alicorn births AND to add on that, even if they did, there may have been no mixed couples and thus it being beyond their understanding because they never seen an alicorn get with a nonalicorn and have an alicorn baby... At least that's how I see it.

They have all the core aspects of ponies up to the 10th degree. More magic than any unicorn. More strength than any earth pony. And more speed and bigger wings than any pegasus. It's only after RD unlocks the rainboom at will that she gains her true potential andbegins showeing far greater feats of speed than ever before more consistently. Also nightmare moon flew away by turning into a cloud. Or gas. I can't imagine a magic cloud has much air resistance so it just smoothly flew away. Xd

However, we never got any evidence that alicorns are stronger than earth ponies or can fly faster than pegasi. The only one we know for sure is that they have more magical potential than unicorns. Actually, now that I think about it...I'll ultimately agree with you that alicorns have more potential when it comes to using pegasi, earth pony, and unicorn magic compared to the "regular" ponies, but they have to train those abilities, otherwise they aren't that capable. Case in point: Cadence wasn't a strong flier because she never flew that much (she said so herself). And in either one of the comics or books, Twilight admitted that Starlight is better than her at magic. But once Twi reaches her full potential as time went on, of course she'd beat Starlight. And if Cadence flew more and practiced, she probably could be better than even RD. So it all depends.

And yes I do agree alicorns must train their abilities and can be surpassed in specific traits by exceptionally capable ponies. But in general base power they have more by default. And have far greater potential. All of them do including cadence. For instance. Alicorn twilight who was originally shown to be fairly incompetent physically when she was previously a unicorn. Is shown making craters on the ground. Shaking it. Being capable of casually tossing around and fighting other creatures and ponies which the regular population couldn't do. And later on is shown taking far more physical punishment than any normal pony could handle. I mean tirel literally drove her through a mountain and she didn't have her magic barrier on to protect her in that moment she visibly had turned it off. As for celestia amd luna. More of the same but with more proof. Luna can shake the ground by just talking really loud. Shake the earth and even cause small earthquakes by stomping her hoofs. And mutliple things of the sorts. Celestia showing comparable stuff. I'm a powerscaler on my free time and I can garantee you both can actually change landscapes if they tried. They've gone through boulders. Destroyed solid walls and many of the sorts when angry. Primarily luna. Twilight herself when powered by the magic of the other princesses was flying so fast she constantly left a trail similar to a rainboom. In fact she did multiple in a row. And that was her trying to slow down and fly on a steady pace. If you assume that the alicorns are comparable to eachother and that their strengths were just added onto twi. Then she should be about 4 times stronger maybe more or less if you believe celestia and luna to be far steinger than her. A being 4 times her normal power and speed was able to make her so much faster than even rainbow that she was so even without trying to be. Which should be counted as evidence that alicorns are just inherently better at all the physical stats. In this case luna being one of the older and far stromger alicorns as she was straight out on her powered up nightmare moon form that not even celestia could fight without the elements it's safe to say she'd be far faster than episode 1 rainbow by default.
Could it be the elements made her look like the day the resentment started? She could’ve finally snapped when she was more powerful. Like the elements having her reflect on a core memory that led to her banishment. For all we know she could’ve been in a horrible nightmare herself and needed help waking up from it. I mean that in a metaphoric sense. Just taking a few guesses, though this would be a decent head cannon.

So, I have a theory about the CMC and how they never met before Call of the Cutie. In that episode, there are the 2 ponies that are recolors of Sweetie Bell and Scootaloo, and did anyone notice that those recolors had cutie marks? I think those 2 ponies were Sweetie Bell and Scootaloo, but they got so sick of the bullying at school for being blank flanks that they basically went to school in disguises as completely different ponies with cutie marks. I will admit though, this theory doesn't cover how in that same episode, Sweetie Bell and Scootaloo said they thought they were the only 2 blank flanks, or why they also laughed at Apple Bloom in the opening scene of that episode before the theme song. If anyone has an idea that helps that part of my theory, I'm happy to hear it!
The only explanation I have for that is that they used Twilight’s cutie mark as a template/refereance while they drew Big Mac’s on top of it, which… why? Applejack’s cutie mark is like a miniature, red, triple version of his. They could’ve picked one of hers and edited it to be the one it is now.
Actually I can believe pinkie pie is just acting scary to have fun like she does in the first nightmare night episode it's not that she's actually scared she just acting scary so she doesn't break the mood of the moment.
Definitely remember being the naysayer (hehe) on watching it cause the boys that I was friends with thought I did and I didn’t want to seem girly at the time. Then one of the boys showed me RUclips version of mlp stuff and of course he turned out to be a brony (who didn’t mention it cause he didn’t want to be caught at the time). I decided to give it a try and ended up watching all 3 or 4 of the seasons in few days. Truly crazy that it ended up being one of my favorite shows of all times and me finding some incredible bronytubers and getting my bros into it too. Good times.
I, myself, didn't start watching the show till after the My Little Pony The Movie came out in theaters. I think my first introduction to it was when I watched Smurfvlogs' binge watch reaction of the entirety of season 3, and thought 'this isn't so bad'. Since then, I've mainly watched the show and movie via reaction videos here on RUclips. As well as the Equestria Girls stuff too, of course.

I like the term alicorn better than a pegacorn ( something I’ve heard them be described as before) As alicorn in the name /all/-icorn It’s all the pony types in one ! Also because Luna and celestia are before equestria it makes sense they would be confused by flurry heart. They have TWO examples of the only other alicorns being created, literally cadence and twilight. They may have assumed either they were born alicorns from alicorns who may not be in existence anymore or they were either created by some magical entity or came into existence maybe because of the celestial bodies they represent. There’s a million reasons as to why they may have existed. I refuse to listen to Gen 5 saying that the alicorn in that show was around when they were little, that is so stupid it’s not even funny. The princesses showed up in equestria and confused even the locals who lived there before its time, it feels like they were more so created versus born as well in my opinion. That they came to exist more so being born.
In my opinion it's just that Pinkie got scared one particular night that she was staying with her Granny Pie after she got her cutie mark and Granny told her only then to giggle at the ghostly.
See, at the beginning the series worked more on fairytale logic. But somewhere in season 4 and onwards started to focus on to act like a high fantasy more. It is a bit jarring see how different it is now.

My headcanon about lunas appearance is that she basically matured rapidly after being freed/cought up with how she would've aged, considering celestia looked just as basic when she was young.
I have a couple theories for this! I'm guessing the aging was either caused by:
1. Luna being stuck inside Nightmare Moon, like Stygian (sorry if I spelled his name wrong). Maybe she was inside some kind of limbo herself, where time was frozen and prevented her from aging?
Or 2. Being stuck on the moon, I dunno how time works up there (and maybe the time on *our* moon works differently than time on the Equestrian moon-) but maybe time passed slower there?
We see flashbacks to them being together before she was banished and she looks like her adult self. I just think of it as her being "cleansed" of Nightmare Moon and getting a fresh start, like time reset for her as a means of giving her a chance to rebuild a better relationship with Celestia from the ground up. I mean, I know it's just that they wanted to redesign her to look less childish, but I like this concept lol.

because of the color shift, as a kid i always thought that the elements of harmony removed the "darkness" of nightmare moon. that's why she's so much lighter. her alicorn magic was stripped away because it held her evil-ness leaving her in that smaller state. she only grows a bit when we see her next, despite the colors shifting. i theorize that - like tirek later on - so much of her magic was sucked away that it physically shrunk her. similar philosophy for why nightmare moon was huge, she just had that much power.

Here is how I would write the scene:Nightmare Moon offers AppleJack an opportunity to take a shortcut and replace her with a perfect replica as long as she doesn’t tell anyone. She refuses the offer and tells her friends even though they would never have known if she hadn’t told them.
Personal theory that probably doesn’t make sense in the canon: the more saturated one’s magic, the more powerful they are. Example being twilight starts out with pastel pink magic, but as time goes on it became a lot more vibrant as her magic becomes stronger.
Oooh! Maybe it eventually becomes so overpowering it has to flow somewhere like their manes, which makes them all flowy! And that's why Luna looked different!

About the "Unicorn magic vs. Alicorn magic" debate, I would like to point out that, later on in the series, it is stated that Unicorns were the ones who raised the sun/moon before the Princesses came along (of course, they couldn't do it efficiently, but they still had the capability). So, in a similar way to how Pegasus magic is made up of many aspects (weather manipulation, flight, etc.), celestial manipulation can very well be considered a subsect of Unicorn magic, which, in turn, is a subsect of Alicorn magic.
Thus, it can be argued that it is specifically the Unicorn aspect _of_ the Alicorn magic, making "Unicorn magic" still work as a descriptor.
That's why in the video I did say I won't fully discourage anyone from thinking that it's unicorn magic~
But in my eyes, I count anything magical an alicorn does as "alicorn magic" since it is coming from an alicorn. Because if we do the opposite, then wouldn't that mean all magic alicorns do with their horns as unicorn magic? At what point is something unicorn magic vs alicorn magic? Since alicorn magic is stated to be a thing...where is the line drawn?

Honestly the term alicorn magic annoys me, because not only is the term used in a totally contrived way ( they just happen to meet Zecora fleeing her home after all but one princess disappeared who just happened to have brewed, bottled and taken with her a potion to see important flashbacks that ONLY works for Twilight!) And the alicorn "magic" is just a sloppily reused show asset (Sombra's evil unicorn magic.)
please take note that before the sisters controlled the sun and moon, a group of old unicorns used to do this... perhaps alicorn magic is just a stronger version of unicorn magic like firaga and fire spell...
6:25 Lauren Faust said in a tweet (when she was still working on the show) that they were born alicorns BUT the infamous quotes Celestia and Luna said Still matters because of what Luna said, if it's "beyond their understanding" that means they have never seen/heard of it happening not just in Equestria but in general, so it's really unclear still.
And in G5 it's confirmed that they were in fact born alicorns. WHICH ONLY MEANS that NONE of the writers exchanged notes when writing some of the lore of this story XD

The other error with the scene is that Applejack says “like caramel on a candy apple” which is inaccurate since candy apples are coated in a candy coating not caramel. Which AJ would know since she works on an apple farm that regularly makes these treats.
I think the reason why Fluttershy acted so out of character is that maybe the party served alcohol. That also would explain why she acted the way that she did in the season one finale. Fluttershy is probably a lightweight, reckless-drunk, and maybe the party served juice at 0.5 abv and she drank enough of it, (Which is probably one glass for her😂)she may have experienced the effects.

Outside of being forced into joining the line for cider by Rainbow in "Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000" Fluttershy (to my knowledge) has never had anything remotely alcoholic, but it's entirely possible she's a lightweight alcoholic. If that was the case, I'd expect her to either be sleepy or staying near the back of the group as she would be slighty slower

Ah, gotta love it when hidden inconsistencies are pointed out that I never would've noticed before. Most of the first season was the show still trying to figure out what it wanted to be. Once we got to season 2, the characters and world were fully established and the show was able to expand on them even more. I find it fascinating that majority of season 1 is set in Ponyville. We also see Canterlot, Cloudsdale, and Appleloosa, but that's it. But then in season 2, we travel all over Equestria with much more episodes set outside the main hubworld of Ponyville. Also, speaking of inconsistencies, what's up with the train in Over a Barrel?! That's a mind boggling one.
Honestly Aloubell, love that the main characters embody the elements. Firstly because"chosened many"stories are rare, secondly main characters usually have remarkable traits!(Later seasons)!

The one who said that NM was permanently banished came from Twi's storybook whereas the prophecy was from the book in her library.
It is true that it is conflicting information. Celestia definitely knew that NM would reappear one day, so...idk why that first book said what it said...probably for shock value for the audience if I had to guess!

29:03 ok, I have a problem with this scene. It’s not really an objective one, but my opinion. Celestia was way too put together here. You’re telling me she patiently waited a whole ONE THOUSAND FREAKING YEARS for her sister to come back, and is not even the least bit emotional upon seeing her again (I know she is slightly later when Luna runs up to her, but that’s barely anything). And yes, I am aware Celestia is pretty good at her royal mask, but surely, if there was ever a time for her to get very emotional, it would be this moment.

I think it's more complex than the assumption of Celestia simply masking up her royal demeanor to conceal her real emotions when Luna returned from the moon. I'd rather suspect that a healthy amount of detachment was something Celestia had to embody for a thousand years, which would explain this measure of emotional distance she expressed when she finally saw Luna. To have an undying amount of patience in waiting on someone's return for that long, while trudging through with her grief and regrets as she kept up that high-demand role for her kingdom, she needed to have her emotional regulation constantly in check. In fact, being too attached during someone's millennial absence, especially when being the reason of her banishment, would essentially be counterintuitive psychologically speaking.
I'd use this reasoning as to why Celestia wasn't inclined to bawl her eyes out during Luna's return, but was emotionally invested enough that she had shed a tear the moment she got that long-awaited embrace with her sister. It's that right time to let the right amount of water works leak out, I'd say.

I would also like to add while I grew up in a place where caramel apples were often called candied apples (mostly when they included things like nuts and other candies attached to them through the caramel), they were more often called Caramel apples, as candy apples were also a thing, were quite different then a caramel apple😆.

I don't know if it's a design oopsie/animation error, but during S1 you can periodically see not only Minuette multiple times at the Summer Sun Celebration, but at least one of the Canterlot mares in Ponyville. Only plausible explanation; in "Amending Fences" when Twilight brings Pinkie to Canterlot in order to throw a party and get Moondancer back to being an outgoing pony Minuette and Pinkie hug and Pinkie says they know each other from Minuette's visists to Ponyville

Making the Nightmare Moon episodes the final of the season!
The mane 6 would be shown to get along slowly and we'd be given hints at what their elements will be. Twilight could've been sent there a week before the celebration and spend time helping each pony to prepare and eventually bond with them. She could still be skeptic about friendship, but the final trials with NM by the end of the season would show her the true power of it.
Btw CMC could be shown to attend school for the first year and that would explain how they only now properly met. But maybe make Apple and Sweetie know each other a bit and Scoot only now moving to town to her aunties with her parents leaving for the trip.
Otherwise it seems VERY rushed. Especially considering how toxic Twi's first interactions with Pinkie and RD were. (Personally I wouldn't try to befriend them after such first impression.)
So throughout the season they'd get a chance to show their better side and work on themselves.
Other cons I can forgive for it being the pilot and a kids show originally. And yes, it does not excuse the poor writing, but I can see how it came to be and still enjoy the episodes.

15:31- the CMC situation in the show, they show FAR more children in the later seasons! There ARE more schools, we just don't see it because they don't bother showing it. I just think the girls got transfered over later for different reasons.
I know the lack of kids was more on the animation than there not actually being other kids.
Having said that, the official map of Ponyville shows that there is only 1 school (other than the School of Friendship).

Once the CMC get their CM, they basically stopped going to school and they were seen getting their CMs pretty late by other standards so... could be possible that once they get it they aren't legally obligated to stay in school and are allowed to leave (with the expectation that they'd either start a job or get an apprenticeship). The ones we see in the school are also a rarity (lol) and there are some we never see again after a while.
The kids there just may not have gotten an apprenticeship or we're left in for different reasons.

In "Call of the Cutie" it's less likely that the pre-CMCs don't know each other but are merely aware of each other. Apple Bloom seems familiar when seeing them at Diamond Tiara's cutesenera as being in Cheerilee's class, but outside of this their hiding together could just be that they're depicted near each other before Nightmare Moon's arrival
🦄 You know, one of the things I love most about your videos is how, despite me often sharing a lot of the same opinions as you, your analysis often help me look at things from another perspective and think about aspects of media I consume that I hadn't considered before, either in a more critical way or to appreciate aspects I didn't notice before.
Well, this "review" did exactly that for the premiere episodes of FiM. 😆 There are certainly certain details that would later go on to become inconsistencies (which as you pointed out, isn't uncommon for pilots as even the writers, artists, and other showrunners are still figuring out the characters and world), but that doesn't really derail from either its entertainment value, nor the importance it had on the impact G4 would eventually come to have.
This wasn't my first MLP episode either, but once I decided to check out the show properly, it did a fantastic job of helping me "get" this show, its lore, its characters, and get a taste of what it had to offer moving forward. Man, this show was just lighting in a bottle. I miss it, but at the same time, I'm glad that it happened and that it ended the way it did. 😊💖

The IDW comic (yes I know non-cannon whatever) "Friendship is Magic 20/20" has the main six 'slip' through a hole Dash accidently tears in time when she performs a sonic rainboom during a thunderstom while they're all wearing their Elements of Harmony. This sends all six back in time to the instant they got their cutie marks and encounter their past selves. Past Celestia even meets with Twilight and urges her to take her younger self to Ponyville to meet the others. The main sixmeet as fillies and after some adventures Celestia arrives to see them off, sealing the younger ponies memories away to maintain the timeline, but the spell unlocks when the main six return to the present, remembering experiancing the whole day with their older selves.
If this is true (I know, questionable and all) it might be why the other five hung out together even if Dash found Pinkie annoying and Rarity and AJ were frustrated with eachother. They had some connection they weren't aware of but drew them all together.
On the other hoof Ponyville is just a small town, and they might have been aquaintences before Twilight and just occasionally bumped into eachother. But as AJ pointed out in season 4 episode 1 "The Summer Sun Celebration may have brought us together, but it's something much bigger that'll always keep us connected." Twilight was the final piece that unlocked their unity as friends. Before that they were just casual aquaintences probably.
I'm 17 and I watch the show because I lost my childhood at a young age due to abuse and medical issues and this is my confort show since I was little but the only things I have wrong for it is not the creators fault but the Community's fault and I'm talking about the dark side the AUs but I won't say the AU due to children could be reading this but you understand I just want to watch the show without seeing the dark side

I didn't know what MLP was until I watched Friendship is Magic. The first episode I saw was the first episode, and I was hooked. So I asked my dad to check out some My Little Pony DVDs at the library, and when he did they were of the older generation (the one with the random humans in it). That was when I learned that this show was actually a reboot of a very old show that gets rebooted every so often. Watching some of those episodes of the old generation, made me like Friendship is Magic even more, because of how better written it was. I always thought Nightmare Moon was so cool.

The two sisters dynamic is pretty similar to Mata-Nui and Makuta from Bionicle. Mata-Nui is light, Makuta is darkness and Makuta put Mata-Nui to a thousand year slumber because Makuta was jealous over all the people affection towards Mata-Nui
I've recently had this idea stirring in my mind for an AU. In the episode "Magical Mystery Cure," all of the main characters except for Twilight get their cutie marks mixed up, all struggling to carry out tasks they aren't meant for. But, what if they were? There's no rain-boom, but it's not instantly the end of the world. Rainbow Dash gets a cutie mark for working with animals. Rarity gets her's by controlling the weather. Applejack is genuinely good at designing clothes, etc. They also all now have their elements switched as well (Rainbow Dash is kindness, Rarity gets loyalty, Applejack is generous, etc.). Celestia gets a more detailed prophecy, saying that the events of the canon pilot will occur, with each having a destined element. However, this is a different dimension. These are different ponies. Still, they band together to defeat Nightmare Moon, showing their true elements. It's a fun little thought experiment.

One thing that bothers me is that when Nightmare Moon first appears, Twi is the only one who seems to recognize who she is, when it's established that almost everypony knows who she is, both when Spike says that it's and old ponys tale as well as the fact there is an ENTIRE HOLIDAY about her.

And about the Luna hair thing, I would like to make a theory that the magic of "raising" the moon since Celestia took over that job it makes her hair flowy, and as we see in later seasons, they can "transfer" their powers, so I believe that Celestia gave Luna the power of raising the moons again which caused Luna's current appearance.
It always bugged me that Scootaloo and Sweetiebell weren't in the same class as Applebloom when we first saw the class. I also agree with Applejacks trial as well. I can't believe with how many times I watched the show not noticing how Fluttershy wasn't scared of the ever free forest in the first episode. I can't believe I missed it. One thing I'm sad about is the writers writing out Twilights spunky attitudes after season 2. I miss sassy twilight and would've loved to see a sassy Alicorn. 😂
Ok this was NOTHING like I was expecting when I saw the title. I was expecting a few moments for this here and that there over the whole series since it was under an hour but 40 minutes on just the opener has me excited because of the detail that you went into BUT mostly because I've watched and rewatched this particular episode(s) over 5 dozen times and NEVER caught all those referances the only 1 I did was the CMC (first episodes ever where scare master and show stoppers so CMC = best pony for me) I really, really, REALLY!, hope you are planning to do more of these because I would really love to see the flaws and inconsistencies pointed out. My self persoanlly love the show as a whole as I am a fan of G1 till now ( love G1 G3 and 3.5 G5 pony life and everything) loved this and I hope this is the start of more

4:30 actually, before MLP gen 4, "alicorn" was just another word for "unicorn": a horned horse. The horse could have wings or not, many named "alicorn" creatures that aren't mlp gen 4 or inspired, were simple wingless unicorns.
6:20 Lauren Faust intended Celestia and Luna to be the only alicorns, and as such be born with it. No pony would earn alicorn-ness, and a new alicorn birth like Flurry Heart was not planned at all. I remember seeing something about it in old tweets from the creators.
16:05 it's likely for Applebloom to not know about Sweetie Belle, because in the Sisterhooves social episode, Rarity's parents drop Sweetie Belle to Rarity's house to go on vacations, and for most of the episode, Rarity seems not to enjoy spending time with Sweetie Belle (that contradicts Forever Filly). So I suppose Sweetie Bell usually lives with her parents, which we barely see in the whole show even as backgroud ponies (do their vacations last that much, or they just don't live anywhere near Ponyville, anyway they probably weren't around before either), and Rarity would probably not talk about her sister that much.
also for Scoots not being at school, we don't exactly know when her parents dropped her at her aunts, maybe just like Sweetie Belle, she just arrived and wasn't going to school yet?

The show wasn’t perfect but I still love it. Over two hundred episodic adventures that spin together to form a saga of friendship.
Though I actually did hear a rumor that season one was supposed to be about Twilight getting to bond and know the other five and then finally the finale was supposed to be them all coming together to stop Nightmare Moon.
I personally would have enjoyed it much more but honestly I love it either way, whether there’s any truth to the rumor or not 😊

I agree about the faults but at least you can still appreciate the show. The biggest issue I have is the awkward fanbase, although I don't see as many creepy bronies anymore. I kinda feel like Bluey is turning into the same thing that My Little pony was... creeps ruining a show that kids and adults are supposed to enjoy. Cartoons like this are meant to be enjoyed by BOTH kids and adults, and but not the type of adults who want to watch "adult" things. I'm talking adults who care about story and not just p*rn addicts or people obsessed with gore and blood.
Celestia and Luna were VERY young kids and were probably NEVER told about Alicorn births AND to add on that, even if they did, there may have been no mixed couples and thus it being beyond their understanding because they never seen an alicorn get with a nonalicorn and have an alicorn baby... At least that's how I see it.

19:28 to be fair. She isn't capable of doing the rainboom yet. And alicorns are objectively more powerful and fast as well as stronger than any creature pony.
They have all the core aspects of ponies up to the 10th degree. More magic than any unicorn. More strength than any earth pony. And more speed and bigger wings than any pegasus.
It's only after RD unlocks the rainboom at will that she gains her true potential andbegins showeing far greater feats of speed than ever before more consistently.
Also nightmare moon flew away by turning into a cloud. Or gas. I can't imagine a magic cloud has much air resistance so it just smoothly flew away. Xd

But I do get what you mean and you're probably right...especially since Luna was in a magical gaseous state (I do call shenanigans on RD getting winded so quickly when following her for 2 seconds).
However, we never got any evidence that alicorns are stronger than earth ponies or can fly faster than pegasi. The only one we know for sure is that they have more magical potential than unicorns.
Actually, now that I think about it...I'll ultimately agree with you that alicorns have more potential when it comes to using pegasi, earth pony, and unicorn magic compared to the "regular" ponies, but they have to train those abilities, otherwise they aren't that capable.
Case in point: Cadence wasn't a strong flier because she never flew that much (she said so herself). And in either one of the comics or books, Twilight admitted that Starlight is better than her at magic.
But once Twi reaches her full potential as time went on, of course she'd beat Starlight.
And if Cadence flew more and practiced, she probably could be better than even RD.
So it all depends.

And yes I do agree alicorns must train their abilities and can be surpassed in specific traits by exceptionally capable ponies. But in general base power they have more by default. And have far greater potential. All of them do including cadence.
For instance. Alicorn twilight who was originally shown to be fairly incompetent physically when she was previously a unicorn. Is shown making craters on the ground. Shaking it. Being capable of casually tossing around and fighting other creatures and ponies which the regular population couldn't do. And later on is shown taking far more physical punishment than any normal pony could handle. I mean tirel literally drove her through a mountain and she didn't have her magic barrier on to protect her in that moment she visibly had turned it off.
As for celestia amd luna. More of the same but with more proof. Luna can shake the ground by just talking really loud. Shake the earth and even cause small earthquakes by stomping her hoofs. And mutliple things of the sorts. Celestia showing comparable stuff.
I'm a powerscaler on my free time and I can garantee you both can actually change landscapes if they tried.
They've gone through boulders. Destroyed solid walls and many of the sorts when angry.
Primarily luna.
Twilight herself when powered by the magic of the other princesses was flying so fast she constantly left a trail similar to a rainboom. In fact she did multiple in a row. And that was her trying to slow down and fly on a steady pace. If you assume that the alicorns are comparable to eachother and that their strengths were just added onto twi. Then she should be about 4 times stronger maybe more or less if you believe celestia and luna to be far steinger than her.
A being 4 times her normal power and speed was able to make her so much faster than even rainbow that she was so even without trying to be.
Which should be counted as evidence that alicorns are just inherently better at all the physical stats. In this case luna being one of the older and far stromger alicorns as she was straight out on her powered up nightmare moon form that not even celestia could fight without the elements it's safe to say she'd be far faster than episode 1 rainbow by default.

Could it be the elements made her look like the day the resentment started? She could’ve finally snapped when she was more powerful. Like the elements having her reflect on a core memory that led to her banishment. For all we know she could’ve been in a horrible nightmare herself and needed help waking up from it. I mean that in a metaphoric sense. Just taking a few guesses, though this would be a decent head cannon.

So, I have a theory about the CMC and how they never met before Call of the Cutie. In that episode, there are the 2 ponies that are recolors of Sweetie Bell and Scootaloo, and did anyone notice that those recolors had cutie marks? I think those 2 ponies were Sweetie Bell and Scootaloo, but they got so sick of the bullying at school for being blank flanks that they basically went to school in disguises as completely different ponies with cutie marks. I will admit though, this theory doesn't cover how in that same episode, Sweetie Bell and Scootaloo said they thought they were the only 2 blank flanks, or why they also laughed at Apple Bloom in the opening scene of that episode before the theme song. If anyone has an idea that helps that part of my theory, I'm happy to hear it!
I know you didn't point this out in your video but early on Big Macintosh (Big Mac) had sparkles on his cutiemark that were removed later. :3

The only explanation I have for that is that they used Twilight’s cutie mark as a template/refereance while they drew Big Mac’s on top of it, which… why? Applejack’s cutie mark is like a miniature, red, triple version of his. They could’ve picked one of hers and edited it to be the one it is now.
Actually I can believe pinkie pie is just acting scary to have fun like she does in the first nightmare night episode it's not that she's actually scared she just acting scary so she doesn't break the mood of the moment.
Also it’s Rainbow Dash. I don’t think she’d ACTUALLY be scared of RD.

Definitely remember being the naysayer (hehe) on watching it cause the boys that I was friends with thought I did and I didn’t want to seem girly at the time. Then one of the boys showed me RUclips version of mlp stuff and of course he turned out to be a brony (who didn’t mention it cause he didn’t want to be caught at the time). I decided to give it a try and ended up watching all 3 or 4 of the seasons in few days.
Truly crazy that it ended up being one of my favorite shows of all times and me finding some incredible bronytubers and getting my bros into it too. Good times.
I, myself, didn't start watching the show till after the My Little Pony The Movie came out in theaters.
I think my first introduction to it was when I watched Smurfvlogs' binge watch reaction of the entirety of season 3, and thought 'this isn't so bad'.
Since then, I've mainly watched the show and movie via reaction videos here on RUclips.
As well as the Equestria Girls stuff too, of course.
I personally would have prefaired if the writers DIDNT forget what young luna & celestia looked like and used their design in the flashbacks! ✋️😞
When this show came out I wasn't five, I was six in 2012. That's the year the show was shown on a kids' tv channel in my country.
20:00 is so real 😭 I sometimes get frustrated with the animators/writers over the small details, but then i realize this show’s original target audience was 5 year olds.. I highly doubt a 5 year old would care or notice 😭 BUT I DO!!!

Also because Luna and celestia are before equestria it makes sense they would be confused by flurry heart. They have TWO examples of the only other alicorns being created, literally cadence and twilight.
They may have assumed either they were born alicorns from alicorns who may not be in existence anymore or they were either created by some magical entity or came into existence maybe because of the celestial bodies they represent.
There’s a million reasons as to why they may have existed.
I refuse to listen to Gen 5 saying that the alicorn in that show was around when they were little, that is so stupid it’s not even funny.
The princesses showed up in equestria and confused even the locals who lived there before its time, it feels like they were more so created versus born as well in my opinion. That they came to exist more so being born.
In my opinion it's just that Pinkie got scared one particular night that she was staying with her Granny Pie after she got her cutie mark and Granny told her only then to giggle at the ghostly.

See, at the beginning the series worked more on fairytale logic. But somewhere in season 4 and onwards started to focus on to act like a high fantasy more. It is a bit jarring see how different it is now.
Enjoying the verses at the beginning of your videos. Very good! 🦄Honestly, the first 2 episodes surprised me when I first watched them. I went into the show with some knowledge about it after watching a bunch of Joshscorcher's videos on the show, and I was still surprised at how it caught my attention. Fun and easy to like characters. A simple and clean art style. And to top it all off, a more than meets the eye lore for a bunch of ponies. Glad I decided to watch it instead of hating from a distance. A good show with a bunch of great characters. 🦄 Also Mod is best pony! We all know it to be true. 😎
