Thanks so much for watching! Let me know your thoughts on Code Lyoko! Also, make sure to check out the other Code Lyoko video Billiam and I worked on for his channel here: ruclips.net/video/WlXMioq7NZY/видео.html&ab_channel=Billiam
It’s been an odd experience finding out on the internet that Code Lyoko was well loved. In my experience as a kid, I watched this seemingly obscure tv show at home alone, absolutely loving the world and vibes. But nobody in my world let on that they watched it or liked it - to me, this was my hidden treasure.
I remember only one other kid mentioning it in school, and everyone looked at him like he was a freak speaking gibberish. I always felt bad that I never stood up for him or even gave him as much as "oh I think I've seen that show, it's on cartoon network right" and just let him make himself into an even bigger "nerd" in the class' eyes.
I remember coming home from elementary school being excited to watch cartoons after a long hard school day. Code Lyoko, Totally Spies, Pokemon Advanced Battle, all that. Man, when times were simpler
I liked Totally Spies and Jackie Chan. Samurai Showndown was good as well but my favorite shows were Rurouni Kenshin and Corrector Yui on Cartoon Network xD
@@qtentertainment8172 I just rewatched xiaolin showdown not too long ago. It's definitely got that early 00s vibe where a bunch of the characters are over-urbanized charactures. I vaguely remember one episode where they had a basketball showdown, in the middle of a run down city, with the only black kid on the show lmao. Omi is also an Asian kid, who is literally drawn as a yellow person, and sounds like uncle Rodger lol. Other than the weird race vibes, the actual content of the show is great.
that is the icing on the cake i loved evolution but that is even better a second genreation of lyoko warriors forreal we need a third series and/or continuation of evolution please but with a soundtrack like the first series
Code Lyoko at times felt like a fever dream growing up. Something a friend and I knew about but not everybody watched. The theme song never left my brain and while not remembering damn near anything about it I'll always remember enjoying it lol
I don’t know if you mean the real life series or the last animated show I only watched the animated show because the real life one never got put in English so if you haven’t seen the real life one the story continues there
The only thing I remember about this show is the theme song. As a kid, it put a weird pit of dread in my stomach. It felt so blue and lonely and cold. :c
I got a dear family friend into Code Lyoko back when it was first on TV. He's no longer with us, but Code Lyoko will always bring me back to our Friday night pizza dinners.
It was genius for the show to blend the two forms of animation together, with 3D being the virtual reality world and 2D being the reality. No way would a show do this today. I have to admit that I never liked the 2D art style with the massive foreheads and tiny eyes but it was animated very well.
Code Lyoko was one of those shows I didn't forget, but also couldn't remember. It existed as a collection of specific sounds and visuals that didn't quite make a proper memory. Glad I finally watched it in full a few months ago.
So cool that the show runners and animators kept in touch with fans on forums and let them make choices about the show. Fan service actually working for once.
@@randompromises1038I had my own ideas for how the sequel for over 2 decades now so you’re not the only one. Besides, some company needs to buy up the library of the now defunct Moonscoop so a reboot can’t happen until that happens.
I remember as a kid being fascinated with the whole concept of Code Lyoko and enjoying the hell out of the show whenever I catch it airing. Glad to see that the internet remembers it somewhat well and fondly.
To this day there's never been anything quite like Code Lyoko (even though some have tried, ahem, Reboot The Guardian Code). It's got such a unique vibe and the 3D animation is still really pleasing to watch to this day. The 2D art style isn't for everyone but I like it honestly, especially the gorgeous painted backgrounds. Some thoughts on XANA: It's such an interesting villain, because it manages to have so much depth and intrigue without actually ever showing a face. The closest we get is its warped, possessed version of Jeremie in Ghost Channel. Despite that we see that it can be manipulative, scheming, cold, creative, obsessive, prideful, angry. We never learn quite enough about its initial motivations for going rogue but we have more than enough information to speculate with. It's fun to think about what its relationship with Franz Hopper might have been like when it first became sentient. It's also interesting how often XANA often fails its attacks Earth-side because it's too focused on torturing the Lyoko Warriors, or how many attackes (especially later on) become focused on targeting them specifically. Again concepts of obsession, manipulation, revenge... all very human traits, for what is supposedly an unfeeling AI that hates humanity.
Oh my god, i love Code Lyoko! this show was my childhood in my early teens! i didn't think you would ever cover this series Jordan thank you for once again making us happy with quality content!
Yeah, Billy and Jordan did a good job, but if I had to give some constructive criticism, it would be all the “large forehead” jokes they kept making. That’s an artistic decision, no different than the characters in The Simpsons having yellow skin.
@@JordanFringe94 I appreciate you showing Code Loyoko some love man I love this show growing up as a kid every time I think viruses happening on my computer and phone I will think Xana causing it to be honest 😅 damn I miss the good old days
Code Lyoko (the 4 seasons of 2D/3D animation, NOT "Lyoko Evolution") is on Netflix, and I spent a good several weeks slow-binging it. It's one of my top shows, and multiple times during the rewatch I was commenting on Facebook the conceit that "Miraculous Ladybug should be doing more things the way that Code Lyoko did..."
We got absolutely robbed with that ending. I watched this show religiously as a kid, so when it disappeared off the air I figured it'd been canceled or something. Found out years later that it actually had an ending, and I never got to see it! To say I was mad is an understatement. ...and man, I forgot how risqué some of those scenes were. You'd think I'd remember formative memories like that, considering the age I watched all this.
Do you remember when XANA traps Ulrich and Yumi in the sauna and turns the heat up to like 140 and they sit back to back bc Ulrich says he won't look at her underdressed? Or when Odd gets trapped in the sewer grate outside Ailetas dad's old house and literally has to tread water with his lips between the grate or die? Dude this show was HARDCORE ASF during the formative years.
@@tekno4blood boy! I remember the sauna episode! That stuff was hard. It was sad I thought for sure they would die. I don’t remember that odd episode tho
It was fairly risqué for the age demographic, but admittedly, as someone who watched this about in tandem with the show As Told By Ginger (or reruns thereof, tbh, I don't recall when that originally came out) and other coming of age shows, it really just felt vaguely normalizing the idea of hey, they're humans, and humans have bodies, and there isn't necessarily anything wrong with that. Obviously that may not have been the intention, based on the scenes that were in the original French that were inevitably cut out and some of the "ogling" aspects that are also implied, but it was mildly cathartic as someone growing up in a super conservative family, who was shamed for "developing" early, where even just mentioning the word "bra" was inappropriate. It was cool seeing scenes with characters in their bras and underwear and it not be treated as an inherently bad thing most of the time, which was the main thing I noticed at like age 10 (even if I would later notice upon rewatching as an adult that there was mild ogling involved). It's kind of interesting taking the time to look back at those formative years, and consider in what ways those scenes were distinctly formative for the people who experienced it. But also, yeah no, some of the other scenes were definitely hardcore too lolol. The episode where everyone nearly died of asphyxiation because they couldn't stop laughing stuck with me awful hard - and then I learned that there is actual medical precedent for that happening and it was even more concerning 😅Definitely not sure if Y-7 was the best age demographic, in retrospect.
I don't remember most of the risque stuff, but does anyone remember the one episode where yumi has some WEIRD looking feet. Im pretty sure they added a sound effect to it so that It was more of a "what was that?"
2004 wow, it’s been roughly 20 years. Crazy. I still go back and watch episodes of this show. I’d love to see it come back with an even bigger budget and targeted to an older audience.
IFSCL is a good jump off point if anyone is looking for a continuation of some kind of CL. The creator who goes by the name 'Immudelki' is so talented. He streams the creation process of the game sometimes and also now has a small team behind him that are helping the project along. Some of the original English voice cast are making returns for the game itself (yes it has a story!), including Franz Hopper and Aelita. Jeremie's va was orignally planned but is now unable due to time restrictions. The game has a mostly fully fleshed out world, including an option to build the Skid & Navskids and actually travel the Digital Sea and visit Replikas. It's kind of crazy cool.
I was just playing it last night! It has real potential to be the conclusion to the story that we all want. And it just feels awesome turning your computer into the super computer lol.
@@NotVeryUwU you do realise that in both original french and English dubs. Aelita and Jeremy were voiced by the same voice actress. But sadly Sisi and Mrs Hertz voice actress Jodi passed away.
I LOVED Code Lyoko as a kid. It was one of the first shows I watched that had a somewhat more serious story, as well as action and drama elements. As a young kid I was super enamored with the characters and story, and it still holds a bit of special place in my heart because of that. It's DEFINITELY nowhere near as good as kid me remembered, but there's still a lot of really cool, creative things that were going on with this show. A group of young kids secretly teaming up and going into this virtual world to fight monsters and prevent the schemes of this evil entity, all the while unraveling the mysteries of who or what created all these things and why, and who their digital best friend that lives in this world really is. Along the way they also deal with occasional emotional drama and need to learn life lessons and grow as people. It's really cool and pretty reminiscent of something like Persona, but more sci-fi/techno. While it will probably never happen, I would really love to see Code Lyoko one day get a reboot that manages to tap into it's story's full potential and has a stronger overarching plot and is willing to be a bit darker. Oh, and also doesn't have that terrible cgi.
Biggest detractor of code lyoko I feel is its terribly low animation budget. Not that I think the show’s style is bad, no. I love the art style. But MoonScoop reused shots from episode 1 like crazy for the whole series. Super bummed to see the same elevator transition or virtualization animation with zero effort (or budget) to shake things up, all the way into the final season.
Fun fact: Thomas Astruc, the creator of Miraculous Ladybug, was a storyboard artist for Code Lyoko! So, if like me, you saw a ton of similarities between the two (bratty bougie daddy's girl, big bad that can possess people, all damage and memories get reset), that's why! :)
The shear amount of horror movie references and existential horror this show really was a gem of writing. As a side note on Franz and aelita's backstory, Franz created both Xana and lyoko, and aelita's mother was presumed killed by the men in black.
The code lyoko novels do give a different story about Aelita's Mother: she got her memories erased by Phoenix who wants to take over the super computer
@@stormlordeternal7663 in Evolution, Anthea is actually in a stockholm syndrome scenario with the main antagonist and Aelita chose to never see her again
I wish you talked more about Xana. Like find it really interesting that this thing was never really seen and never talked but it's presence could seriously be felt as it's actions clearly painted it as scary, ruthless, and sinister. Also thought this various monsters were really neat too. Love the couple eps where the monsters were sent to the real world and got to see them in the other animation style.
Yeah, everybody thinks it was a computer virus but it's not. They literally tell you in one of Hopper's diaries that it was a military subterfuge artificial intelligence that went rogue. It's not a computer virus like everybody thinks it is. It's an AI that was designed for military subterfuge that decided it didn't want to do what humans commanded it to do anymore and instead decided it wanted humans to do what it says.
You could say Xana started going towards possessing people after realizing how vulnerable the team is in the real world and it does save power for his next big attempt.
I love Code Lyoko and watched it's all 97 episodes way too many times, but I didn't realize one thing you mention - their characters. They're all so unique (except Aelita) and I wanted to be a part of their group because I felt as if I'd fit in because I couldn't have found myself in a society just like them. What a trip.
It has all the weird anime trope things though that make it hard to recommend to a normal person...the android 18 forehead thing for the main characters was always off-putting
@@PassTheSnails Yeah, it was unique but that doesn't mean it wasn't ugly. The characters faces all looked the same, with tiny eyes and massive foreheads. The characters looked a lot better in 3D.
Honestly I personally loved Code Lyoko, because of it makes you watch both 2D and 3D animation which wasn't common at the time. I have many fond memories of this show because of how unique it was and very story telling.
Code Lyoko was a huge part of my childhood. So much so that it surprised me that I had totally forgotten about it until recently and decided to rewatch it. I didn't know if I would like it as an adult, and season 1 is definitely hit or miss for me, but there are some absolutely amazing episodes even in that season that I thoroughly enjoy. I took a break from it for the past month and a half, but now that i'm done watching this video, i'mma go ahead and start season 2. c;
Back in the day Code Lyoko was aired by Jetix here in Brazil, and it always started about 3 or 4pm, while I was at school. I remember having fake headaches a few times so I call my mom to take me home lol. One thing I notice now, it's how much the show was not well known througout my friends and people in general. But I loved so much. Also bought a plastic sword just to mimick Ulrich's moves.
As a lebanese (being french educated) i watched it in french and its really nice how it doesnt compromise french culture for a more bland basic universal . Everything from the schools to the food they eat to literally even the pen types we had in school as well😂 , its was a very nostalgic trip for me They could be set it im america or somewhere popular glad it wasnt
This was honestly one of my favorite shows growing up. I just rewatched the whole series a couple of months ago. It was so worth it, going back and actually getting to see the ending.
Still love this show. Holds a special place in my heart. Would really like to see a revised version with today's animation advancements. Some, but not too many, creative freedoms with the original story, but still keeping the 2D/3D separation and balance.
I love Cody Lyoko; it was amazing to watch as a kid and amazing now. I'd love to see an animated continuation one day. And of course one executive at CN decided to can it because he didn't like it. It's always one executive that does so with great stuff. When you're in charge of several TV shows you shouldn't just can something because it's not your cup of tea, as your job is to make sure other people like it. Variety is how you attract several viewers to your channel.
Hi from France, I'm happy to see French medias can be known outside of France :) So many French animated series from my childhood are not represented enough in the rest of the world, I'm glad this show is, you have no idea of the gems we had ^^ You should try to watch the French version now for the best experience, I know it can be weird but I grew up with the french dub of many famous american animated series, and now I watch these in the original language and I got used to it, plus I got much better in English by watching TV, I'd be pleased if people did the same with French medias :) This show is absolutely great, and it feels refreshing to have an action sci-fi show like that taking place in a town in France, it doesn't happen often and certainly not in French cinema ^^
@@kieranwrightstone2199 Yeah sure, I've got multiple things of multiple genres, hold on :) If it's about kids animated series you want I could suggest : - *Wakfu* : a fantasy series about Yugo, a young kid who discovers he has abilities to teleport (Portal style) and decides with a group of friends of different species (Like Lord of the Rings but quite unique to this world) to go on a quest to find his origins, a high budget show inspired by japanese animation it's action packed and quite fun, it gets more mature with the seasons, the first half of season 1 is a bit boring though, but the rest is great, you can find it on Netflix. it's 2 season of 26 episodes each, plus 3 small specials, plus 3 big specials made before season 3 that is made of 13 episodes, season 4 is on the way - *Martin Mystery* : Technically not so French but it the same creative team behind Totally Spies, basically a paranormal investigator teenager who works for a secret agency to hunt monsters/aliens/fantastical creatures, it's not a deep show with great character development, it's even a bit dumb but it's a lot of fun and it's the equivalent of horror movies but for kids, it fueled my nightmares growing up ^^ - *Foot 2 Rue* : (Translated by Street Football) It's a story about young kids of different social classes that gather to play soccer in the streets, they find out that everywhere in the world, kids play soccer so they decide to illegally organise a World Championship in their small city of South of France behind the police's back. This show is not really about soccer, but about the idea that everyone in the world can gather for a common goal despite the differences, and this show talks about subjects like violence, drugs, family issues, child labour, poverty etc... without too preachy, the art style is unique (like Code Lyoko) but this show is very powerful and emotional, it's 3 season of 26 episodes each (plus a 4 released recently) - *Les Mystérieuses Cités d'Or (The Mysterious Cities of Gold)* : This show is a French-Japanese production from 1982 when animes started to be popular in France, this show is the reason why Avatar:TLA is only #2 in my heart, this one is #1 ^^ The story takes place during the XVIth century during the era of conquistadores, it's about Esteban a young spanish orphan who after the death of his adoptive father decides to go to the New Continent, he possesses a mysterious medallion which might come from the City of Gold so he decides to go to search for it to find his birth father, with 2 friends Zia and Tao, they cross the path of an ancient civilisation that has more secrets than it might seem. This show is a mix of adventure, historical truth, fantastic and sci-fi, it's like Indiana Jones before Indiana Jones was made (well... Scrooge McDuck I guess...), or it's like Assassin's Creed for example, it's such a gorgeous show :) This show benefited of the best quality, big budget and latest "technology" for TV animation at the time, it got old but holds up very well, the creators are French, but the writers and studio team was Japanese, I suggest the French version, the most close to what the creators had in mind, the japanese version being very very different. It is still extremely popular today, kids still watch it 40 years later, it even had a Blu-Ray remaster that I highly recommend, though no subtitles avalaible :/ I guess it would be pretty hard to find some of these shows with subtitles, and if they had american dub it's might have been censored (or not that well-done) but you could probably find it not so legally ^^ I could also suggest you French movies if you want, but it's mostly old movies, because French modern cinema is pretty shitty nowadays
@@LegendStormcrow Yes totally, but there is as much good stuff as there is bad stuff, you have to found the right ones ^^ I consumed a lot more of american shows growing up, especially Disney and Superhero ones, Europe is more and more influenced by US culture, mostly because of Hollywood, it represents such a huge part of cinema and TV in the entire world, so I guess the small number of French shows I watched made them more important to me, it'll never be as popular as american ones :) I made a list of French 'kids' shows to @Kieran Wrightstone if you're interested
Right!! They dropped him in to sync him with the super computer and he comes out of the tube exclaiming how terrible it was but it woulda have been soooooo cool to see him and Aileta go on a date in Lyoko. I wonder what his outfit and power would have been..
I kind of like how empty and vast the digital world's landscape is in Lyoko compared to the fleshed out real world. The Internet was relatively new, it makes sense that it's so barren. Especially for the early/mid-2000s. But I can see why even if it's just depicted as natural landscapes, how they could use more dimension/quality. This was a cool show and is a cool idea.
Timeless show for me. Been in my top favorite cartoons from its debut to present. I've re-watched whole seasons over multi-year gaps several times (thanks Netflix), so it definitely holds up in that regard and in general. So yeah, this is up there with Tom and Jerry, Avatar, Danny Phantom, etc. The theme song is still a masterpiece as well.
What also was great with this show as a kid, it's that they spent so much time in the same places (plus recycling clips of them going to the factory) that it felt like I knew almost exactly how the city was built, how the factory was built, the corridors, the elevator, the stairs the teens living there etc... Same for the middle-school, it's like as if I knew exactly every step of to how to go to point A to point B, it felt so damn real and well fleshed-out (I used to dream so many many time about being in Kadic school and trying to go in the sewers to reach the factory, but I couldn't control my movements or the environment, so I never could go there that was frustrating) I consumed too muche of this show probably ^^
Bruh I God I made a lil fan fiction of my own about Code Ly. And I made a character that wz a self insert Going to lyoko too, my goodness i called him Oddric. Idk why but i really felt I had to stick wit it to relate to the show. Man this one is the only shows where boarding school was the primary location for the protagonist. Idk why but most shows don’t tackle that. It wasn’t anything major but I always love that! Also it was kinda weird because even tho it was a boarding school I assume you didn’t necessarily have to live there(Yumi didn’t. I don’t remember who else didn’t but Ik it was one other person)
@@asherjohnson6678 Yeah, it happens in some middle-schools and high-schools, it's not really the same thing as boarding schools, there are no words in english to differenciate the 2 systems, but basically boarding schools are independent, when this situation in Code Lyoko, it's a normal school that provides a system of internate as a plus. There are interns that sleeps there during the week, in some schools they go back at their parents' for the week-end, in the show they stay until their vacations (French vacations are 2 weeks around october, 2 around dec/jan, 2 around feb, 2 around in april and about 2 months, Ju-Aug), there is also semi-extern, that stays at noon to eat at the cafeteria, and externs (it's rarer) that eats at their home at noon, Yumi is a semi-extern, the other are interns, they are usually selected because the parents live too far mostly because of their jobs, if the parents aren't the wealthiest they can have issues providing a good education (parenting or schooling), so their kids can be accepted too. Ulrich is a failing student, for 1+1/2 year in a row he had difficulties, I think they don't really like that for interns, so I suspect he is still accepted because his parents are rich guys that we shouldn't mess with, maybe they even generously help the school financially I wouldn't be surprised
Remember when Odd dropped a bunch of Candy on the keys and it wrote the code needed to bring back a SINGLE hair on Ailetas head, but they "couldn't save the code" so he went bananas trying to figure out what the candy typed?!
@@tekno4blood You’re mixing two episodes together. The hair was the episode where Aelita’s code got bugged because Jeremy effed up when materializing it and they used it to bring her back after she got reformatted and the candy on the keyboard was the episode where Yumi fell into the Digital Sea and they ended up having to use that program to bring Yumi back instead of materializing Aelita.
This was a show that as a kid I only caught reruns and years later was one of those "was it real or did I imagine it" memories. I had no idea that the show was so popular.
As a fellow Lyoko fan i've always loved this show, and i also appreciate you using my footage to express how great the franchise is, i pretty much went into full depth of how the game Quest For Infinity works in my Let's Play. Thanks again Jordan for your awesome review
Out of every cartoon I've ever watched, this one is probably my favorite. It's definitely one of the first ones I ever enjoyed. I'm so glad it still holds up so well, but _man_ it gets dark, like the time everyone thought Ulrich died and Yumi got really emotional, the time Yumi was trapped in her Nav Skid slowly losing power and realizing she was probably going to die, the time she actually technically _did_ die while trapped under a tree during a blizzard, the time the supercomputer was running out of battery and everyone realized that this would kill Aelita and there was nothing they could do, the time Aelita died _twice_ in the season 2 finale (one of which was a freaking suicide, the other being the only time a character directly says that another character is dead)... Like, holy shit, why was six-year-old me allowed to watch this show?
Did anyone ever ACTUALLY die in the 2D world? I thought the "return to the past now" wouldn't bring people back from the dead that's why they always had to hurry. Like when Ulrich and Yumi were baked alive in the sauna they couldn't take their time, right?
One thing about this series that always stuck was me was the true scope of the virtual world. It's been well over a decade since I watched it and I certainly didn't see the full series, so I may be off on some of the details, but to my recollection it was revealed later on in the series that Lyoko proper was only the tiniest fraction of the virtual space that actually existed. Within the broader digital world Lyoko existed as a relatively small orb floating above a seemingly infinite sea, and below that sea a practically endless span of redundant worlds and other junk data, which if I had to guess was never meant to exist as a digital space. They probably say as much at some point, but I wouldn't know as I watched very little past season one. Though if so then I'm reminded of Super Mario Land 2's out of bounds glitches.
I love how a lot of the fandom share the headcanon for the changes in 3d animation being it's the supercomputer being updated and upgraded by Jeremy overtime
This show was great, and a fun watch, I remember when the writers forgot that Odd actually didn't get his shield until season 2 during the Xana Awakens special, he uses it a couple of times, but during season 1 his "special abililty" was that basically useless "That's So Raven"-esque future sight nonsense.
I'll never forget Code Lyoko. It was such adult content, for a kid's cartoon. I'd love to see a new version, with the guys as grown ups! The theme alone, that was awesome! I really had to search for the end of this series. As someone who writes fantasy, comedy and a TINY bit of animation, this was one of the best and most prominent pieces of the 20th/21st century. Way ahead of its time!
I was born in 97 and I remember when this show first aired in the US and the pilot episode and I was hooked, I was also curious as in what school the kids were going to and wondered if we had something like that in the US. It was awesome show and introduced me to the concept of AI. The sad part is, is that kids these days won't have the same experiences or even good shows with writers that actually care about their jobs what they put out rather than just a paycheck. Yeah, there some good cartoons being made today but not like they were in the early to mid 2000's
Here we are, going far To save all that we love If we give, all we've got We will make it through Here we are, like a star Shining bright on your world
@@razkable Truly! All the near death experiences that happened to the characters kept my 6-10 year old self on my toes constantly. The best tv show I've ever watched
I actually watched Code Lyoko for the first time 2 years ago. It has since become one of my favorites. My reintroduction to Code Lyoko started with the "Code Lyoko: Quest for Infinity" game on PlayStation 2. I first played it back in 2012, 10 years ago. It changed my life in way I could not have imagined. As of right now it has nearly 2 years since I finished it. As I finished it on December 30, 2020. My goal was to finish the series by the end of the year, that goal has been completed. (I also played the "Code Lyoko: Quest for Infinity" game on Nintendo Wii around the same time.) So, my history with Code Lyoko has been a roller coaster for the last decade.
My favorite thing about this show, was it legit felt like a cartoon for grown-ups when you're a kid. Had Violents, Romance and Horror elements which I loved as a kid. I grew up with Horror movies as a kid, and wanted to see Horror in my cartoons. Which Code Loyko has, shows legit scary when Xana attacking in the real world.
I loved Code Lyoko so much! It was such a fun and interesting concept, and the way they executed it with the art styles was entirely unique. Evolution had the potential to be great, but they made so many changes to it that no body was happy or satisfied with. I'm sad about how it failed to perform in the end.
Kinda glad they didn't given CN is the one that stopped airing it 7 episodes before it finished, didn't even try to dub evolution, and well just look at the tragedy that is the Ben 10 or Teen titans reboots.
@@daymianhogue1634 CN did the same thing to Zoids Chaotic Century. The last few episodes never went into circulation and as I remember I only got to watch them during a marathon on a Saturday afternoon. Such weird decisions went on during that time.
I would've loved this idea had we not seen what they're willing to do to Thundercats, Ben 10, Teen Titans, and Powerpuff Girls. I don't want to see a butchering of one of my favorite shows, and we can't trust Netflix with animated shows anymore with how they axe things.
This show was such an integral part of my childhood and creative style that i can't believe I ever forgot it. Watching this was like teleporting back to my past...
I was in elementary school when I got to watch Code Lyoko on Miguzi. Hearing that there was so much fan interaction and influence while the show was going on makes me so disappointed that wasn’t old enough to have a chance to Google Translate in my own suggestions and possibly make friends around the world with shared love for Code Lyoko. It also makes me really angry that I couldn’t see the finale when it was finished. I managed to see it later on, but it really was disappointing that I couldn’t experience it when I was a kid. I really wish for something that’ll bring it back. I might be in my 20s now, but I’d definitely watch it
I see that Code Lyoko is finally getting treatment it deserves. i see many new videos about it and its good to see a spotlight for this small (in terms of budget and voice actors, as well as dubbing) cartoon from early 2000s French animation. I used to love this show and would love to draw various CL enemies, even roleplay it with my friends haha back in the day. Its good to see interests in Code Lyoko rising, even if its for nostalgia sake, but seeing that it picks up momentum again I wouldn't been surprised if, similar how totally Spies got another season after almost 10 years, Code Lyoko gets another chance. Also, recently the old story board artist for Code Lyoko and author of Miraculous Ladybug used XANA's eye in the new episode of MLB, so that was nice to see the old throwback to his old job.
Code Lyoko was mine and my sisters' favorite TV show growing up (in our Pre-teens to teens) - but we were too ashamed and embarrassed to admit to Eachother that we enjoyed it. So, we would secretly watch it behind each others back...until one of us got caught. Then we enjoyed it together. I don't know why we felt too embarrassed to admit that we enjoyed it. Actually, I watched this series again recently and it's not too bad at all. My sister's cats absolutely love the show and will actually stop and come watch it. It's so cute.
My only criticism is you forgot to mention how much of an absolute banger of a theme song this show has. Like “MAKE EVIL GO AWAY!!!” What better way to define the ethos of the show and capture the emotional highs it has to deliver?
For the longest time since I first saw this show back in 2004 here in the States, I always thought of it as a unique Japanese anime because of the 2D and 3D(CGI) art style. I never once thought that it was a French cartoon up until watching this video! I'll at least give the French credit for putting out a convincing animated series... I just wish I was more invested in watching to the very end for the story. But hey, things happen and here we are now.
I remember this being my favorite show but having absolutely zero idea what was ever happening. I never caught the show in order and if I didn’t I never knew and I loved it
The code lyoko novels exist as a finale kinda It's a bit of alternate continuity to the series but it also expands on Aelita's past It also resurrected XANA though so...
Back in 2012 I was watching tv on demand after school (as a 3rd grader often does) when I stumbled onto a channel called “Kabillion” containing shoes such as yugioh gx, hero 108, and of course, code lyoko. I began to be enthralled by the show and often sketched my idea of a virtualization chamber. Later on in life, I’d find the whole show on RUclips, and have binged it twice over. To this day still one of my favorites.
I remember Kabillion on Comcast on demand too even though I was in 12th grade in 2012 but it was more of a summer 2007 experience for me my favorite shows on Kabillion was Chaotic and Sonic X
I loved this show so much, I never knew why I only met 1 person when I was a kid that actually saw it but hated it. It was weird eventually looking up my "obscure" childhood favorite cartoon in high-school and seeing it was pretty popular. When I got into gurps over the past few months it's one setting I actually debated doing in in it but then realized no one I know likes the show as far as I know. My wife is 8 years older than me and was too old and didn't have cable to watch it, my best friend grew up poor and only watched either PBS kids or similar public programming until his family finally got internet in high-school, and most other people I know my age that know of the show would rather watch "real" anime, so that was the nail in that coffin
This show really helped push my artistic side now that I think of it. I was in middle school when the show was first put on netflix (and I practically BINGED it TWICE back to back before it got removed, not sure if its still up in the US but I heard it came back). One of the side characters stood out to me and it led to me making my own character using the same hairstyle and adding a Monkey design when in Lyoko. But yeah this show had a HUGE impact on my childhood!
I remember stumbling upon Code Lyoko by accident while browsing the TV channels one day around when it was airing. I was intrigued by it, and wanted to see what else the show had to offer. From there, I became a fan of it, and enjoyed the world of CL ever since... aside from Evolution to a fair degree. Hell, I remember a couple of friends of mine and I even tried to draw our own version of characters within the CL-verse. Even now, I will always be a fan of this series, and as much as I would love to see it return... especially to it's roots. I doubt we'll ever get that chance. But hey, just means we can cherish what we were given... (Except the live-action parts of Evolution.)
This show is my childhood and I'm glad to see you talk about it and it's history! I even learned a couple new things about it too! This show is also where I got my username from, kept it ever since I first watched Xana Awakens way back when I was in high school.
I was pretty old when this came out. Early 20s the only reason I watched it initially was to have something on while I got ready for work. I was always a big animation fan so I always just had cartoon network on generally. At first I didn't really care too much about the show it was just something that was on but as time went on and I watched it more and more I got invested in the story and characters that the show had to offer. It ended up being a show that I really liked by the time things were all said and done. This show was much better than I thought it was going to be and I'm happy that I ended up getting into it. It's funny how things just kind of grow on you when you don't think they ever will.
I wish Odd developed more as the series went on. Lyoko felt so confused tonally with how it handled its cast, and Odd's inert personality felt kinda frustrating with how they didn't seem interested in doing anything with him. The way Code Lyoko progressed through the first 3 seasons was really good; the story expanded, the stakes were gradual but palpable, and it always had a sense of dread which was rare for stuff I'd watch back then. Sadly, Season 4 really dropped the ball. It was bloated with tons of filler that never properly conveyed the scope despite XANA invading the real world to build robots to take over the world. The finale felt so rushed and cobbled together and a lot of how things resolved didn't make any sense. A lot of their decisions from 4 onto Evolution make it seem like they had no plan after Season 3 and kept shooting themselves in the foot. The glut of "don't find out my secret!" story hooks left a heady stank over every show that did that and it got pretty tiresome when they'd fall back on it for Lyoko's final season after getting away from it. Hell, the finale even ends on another one of those conflicts slapped on instead of trying to grow. I think Lyoko's biggest flaw was its payoff not being as good as its setup. Franz Hopper's identity in Lyoko (the resolution to his whole deal is such a wet fart in the finale it's embarrassing), the organization he worked for (and their baffling absence, like not even a secondary character from the agency for the kids to deal with? c'mon guys), and XANA as a character were either threadbare or mishandled. "Ghost Channel," easily the best episode of the series for me, felt like XANA would have more presence as a threat by gaining power and perhaps sentience, but even tho they say he grew stronger with each reset you never really get that sense anywhere.
I totally agree! The conclusion that "we can finally shut off the super computer" left so many questions unanswered... Like who were the MiB and Alietas mom and William got shafted soooo hard in the end... Just painful
This show literally was a big part of my childhood. I remember this show whenever I could see it, I'd get on the channel asap! Was only last year I actually sat down and finally watched the whole series. For the longest time, did think why wasn't there more or another series or something in the states, but seeing what all came to be made that obvious now. It's wild just to see how far it all was and could have been in some regards. Nevertheless, thank you so much for finally covering this!
I’m with you on that. I was waiting for him to cover this show. It brings back so many memories. The setting, story, character and so much more kept me hooked. Loved the virtualization music when they went to Lyoko 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
CL is great and it was about 7 months ago my slumber of it was ended, when I found out there were more episodes after the Patrick episode, which I saw in 2007 and thought it was the cancelled mark for all that time. Don't @ me about how was I not aware of Wikipedia or episode guides, since I never looked up anything CL related stuff in all that time. I rewatched every episode within a month and the show still holds up, Ulrich's my fave, dude is a freaking chad.
a good mix of 2d and 3d animation that makes sense in the world of the show. the cast have the standard teenage drama but it works as they are teenagers as well as the setting being unique for a kids show even in an overseas product. although it's not without it's mistakes as some episodes xana is an unbeatable monster while other episodes he just messed with Yumi and the cast by doing basic stuff like kissing all around I did like when they stopped using return to the past as it felt like wasting character development from the side cast and let the story flow forward. sissy was honestly better on my rewatch when I grew up seeing she had a lot more complexity towards her same as the side cast. wish William had more to his character in the team as they treat him like garbage for no reason and the show could have given him more time to develop before going xana mode. overall just a fun series that got better with time now to the live action. that was better for william but not for the cast. they were so unlikable at times but sissy being friends wss good for her. the plot could have worked if they had better writers the book series while strange seeing xana be a brother to alieta I think it could work for a reboot sense
@@YujiUedaFan no she isn't but it shows Jeremy as a elf like aelitas doll so It might give you some extra content. Sissy was honestly wasted potential like William
I missed the finale of the show, and it's one of my biggest regret of my life. But tbh, to think that Code Lyoko finally remembered really felt heartwarming
i vividly remember watching the prequel episode with my younger sister, and we immediately fell in love with the show. eventually it seemed to disappear, and niether of us knew why. then in high school a friend of mine stumbled apon it, and it was great to learn this show wasn't some fever dream i had. ... eitherway this show is very nostalgic for me, and im glad to have found this retrospective
I remember being so impressed with the show. It was one of the first ones to do the 2D and 3D mix and 3D was not as heavily developed back then. As a kid, I thought the 3D world was beautiful and the empty-background kinda made sense for it. And as the seasons went on, the characters got more developed, fleshed out, and the story got more complex such as when they realized the back-in-time things were causing Xana to grow stronger and they now had to try to limit Xana's destruction to avoid a necessary back-in-time function.
Man this takes me back. Coming home from middle/high school and code lyoko was the first thing on? Sweet nostalgic memories bro. The amount of research poured into this (and every video you put out) astounds me. I love finding out stuff about the show and what went on behind the scenes from creation to reception to cancellation that a lot of people might not have even known about. For some reason though this video also makes me recall watching Reboot. Is that one anywhere on your radar?
I have thought about this show way to much these past years. just random memories, id be like "oh yeah, that was a thing" i didnt know there was so much more to the show than what i saw on cartoon network. i feel like my childhood has been crushed but revived at the same time. I wouldnt plan on rewatching the whole series but I at least want to see those last 7 episodes i missed. thanks jordan
As a kid I watched this show all the time as the premise really caught my attention. What's really awesome is that the full English dub is up on RUclips by the official channel.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE code lyoko. I think it was really well done and it had so much potential but it just ended up being extremely underrated. I hope with my whole heart that someday a romantic fan with money tries to bring back to life the show. 😢
This show was definitely one of my favorites. I feel this was a cartoon way ahead of it's time but however I'm happy it's a treasured memory for us 90s babies who was heavy on CN. Mainly what people remember most about this was how big the characters' heads were 🤣🤣 another gem in the Cartoon Network stash
French viewer here: Thank you very much for covering this show. Code Lyoko has been and kind of still is extremely popular in France, everybody knows the theme songs, the characters and the plot are memorable and it trully made its place into our lil kid's hearts. It's such a unique and creative show.
When I was little I liked Code Lyoko so much that when I played with my friends, my "weapon" of choice was a fan. I insisted that fans were awesome because Yumi had one and she was awesome. While the rest of my friends played with toy swords, toy guns, toy axes and toy shields, I was the kid with a fan
This is just great on a Friday evening, one of my favourite animated shows being covered not only by J.F but also Billiam, and for it to be a Collab video its almost unreal. And he found commercial reels for the show, where did you even get those.
Oh man, now *this* makes me feel old. This was one of the few shows I'd hop over sofas to watch the moment it popped up, and the merry intro's still stuck on my head, a decade later. Bit of a shame it ended so abruptly.
I was this way with code name kids next door and that teenage mutant ninja turtles show with that cool anime style, (not the old one, the one with the white eye design from 2003) I LOVED that one, got me into gaming because of the ninja turtles games. Wow those were such a fucking blast..
Man the summer I discovered this show with my childhood friends was frikkin legendary... Good times and a great show. Wish it'd get a proper animated continuation or loyal reboot.
I'm so happy you and billaim made a video about this show. I remembered watching this show a lot when I was a kid and in awe from the mix of 2D and 3D animation
Huh, weirdly enough I watched through the entire show again very recently, something I very much enjoyed doing. This really was a great show with very good characters and a great setting. Here’s a fun fact for everyone: William's English voice actor was actually also the voice of Goku in the infamous “Big Green Dub”. Jeremy and Aelita’s voice actor also voiced Krillin in the same awful dub 😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜
I think Sharon Mann (who played Bulma in the BGD) was in Code Lyoko... also I've just looked this up, a character named "Franz Hopper" was played by Paul Bandey (Piccolo), the man who uttered those beloved famous meme-worthy words "Let that child alone".
@@JoesAnimationHub Oh gosh, Franz Hopper is Aelita’s father, who again was voiced by the person who did Krillin's voice (which was Sharon Mann interestingly enough) in that dub. So… in the Big Green Universe Krillin is Piccolo’s daughter?! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Code Lyoko is still an amazing show and one of the best animated shows we've had. I wish it came back and made a new season based on the 4 boosk that continmue the story after season 4. I'm from Spain and I can say that all 4 book were translated officially to Spain (you say in your video that they didn't came outside Italy). I think they were translated to more languages since they were the next part of the story. I recommend reading them as they add a lot of things that weren't told in the tv show, they really deserve a new adaptation. Just forget about Evolution because the liveaction was a mess.
I just did a rewatch of the series after I saw it on Netflix and realized I never saw the ending. It was a nice series but the ending felt pretty basic and not as exciting as the beginning. Also, I didn't like how many times we had to see UlrichXSissy moments, compared to UlrichXYumi ( these two were among my first couple that I loved as a kid). But this is still a series I look back on with a lot of fond memories. Didn't know the series was so loved out in the world cause it always felt so obscured. Sad they couldn't make a sequel that kept the original charm
Thanks so much for watching! Let me know your thoughts on Code Lyoko! Also, make sure to check out the other Code Lyoko video Billiam and I worked on for his channel here: ruclips.net/video/WlXMioq7NZY/видео.html&ab_channel=Billiam
Ulrich is my favorite.
I remember code lyoko tv show I love that tv show because it fits my personality I love technology
Lol Smart House ruined me for smart home technology too 😬😂
I’m I the only one who found this show on Kabillion 😂
Hands down one of my most favorite shows, in part because I grew up watching it!
Yes, the feeling that what you love is only loved by you alone is too funny, but I felt the same way!
Same
I remember only one other kid mentioning it in school, and everyone looked at him like he was a freak speaking gibberish.
I always felt bad that I never stood up for him or even gave him as much as "oh I think I've seen that show, it's on cartoon network right" and just let him make himself into an even bigger "nerd" in the class' eyes.
It was like that for everyone, Donald.
Welcome to what everyone felt like if they grew up watching it.
I remember coming home from elementary school being excited to watch cartoons after a long hard school day. Code Lyoko, Totally Spies, Pokemon Advanced Battle, all that. Man, when times were simpler
Did you watch Jackie Chan Adventures, Xiaolin Showdown, and a show most haven’t watched, Cousin Skeeter?
@@qtentertainment8172 Xiaolin Showdown, most definitely! My sister & I were obsessed with this!
I liked Totally Spies and Jackie Chan. Samurai Showndown was good as well but my favorite shows were Rurouni Kenshin and Corrector Yui on Cartoon Network xD
Heheh, "Pokemon! (Advanced Battle!)"
I'm so ecstatic that Code Lyoko is being recognized and the popularity is coming back again
The popularity has always been around
Tbh I was kinda of afraid of Code Lyoko xD
@@heyIntel haha, the fear I had was "what if Xana could exist in our world?" And how the ramifications of having Xana IRL would be lol
666th like 👍 😈
that is the icing on the cake i loved evolution but that is even better a second genreation of lyoko warriors forreal we need a third series and/or continuation of evolution please but with a soundtrack like the first series
Code Lyoko at times felt like a fever dream growing up. Something a friend and I knew about but not everybody watched. The theme song never left my brain and while not remembering damn near anything about it I'll always remember enjoying it lol
Code Loyko was so rad. The Opening Theme Song is one of the best. It's just a shame this show never got a proper conclusion.
That theme song kicked ass. For me it's a core memory
I mean, at least it didn't end on a cliffhanger... The last season might not be the best, but it had an ok end
"Were you entranced by its blending of 2D and 3D animation?"
Yes, 100%. Cherished childhood memories.
I like shows that blend 2D and 3D…
And no, that’s not Family Guy.
I’ve had that happen before, it’s crazy when you have everything except the name of something.
So cool that the show runners and animators kept in touch with fans on forums and let them make choices about the show. Fan service actually working for once.
More shows should do this today. Don't let fans write the show, but let fans direct the show
Tempted to become a show runner just to reboot this series
@@randompromises1038I had my own ideas for how the sequel for over 2 decades now so you’re not the only one. Besides, some company needs to buy up the library of the now defunct Moonscoop so a reboot can’t happen until that happens.
@@sakurashy8492 I may be broke but I could make that happen
Truly appreciate the support! Thanks so much!
there is a fan game where yoy can play as jeremy and use the super computer to live the life and story mode of Code Lyoko
I just cant agree more with u!
It's also all available for free, officially, on RUclips
Slow binge…. I might steal that method
Dude as Code Lyoko Fan who is a Miraculer, I 100% Agree that Miraculous Should be doing more things like Code Lyoko did.
“Slow-binge” otherwise known as just watching it normally
Thomas Astuc worked on both shows that's why they share concepts
Or maybe riské doesnt have as much impact depending on what stage of development the child is in
I don't remember most of the risque stuff, but does anyone remember the one episode where yumi has some WEIRD looking feet.
It Yumis, Ulrichs, and Odds returning?
@@NotVeryUwU you do realise that in both original french and English dubs. Aelita and Jeremy were voiced by the same voice actress. But sadly Sisi and Mrs Hertz voice actress Jodi passed away.
This is *_the_* show I can always come back to. Huge respect for the company putting the episodes online in multiple languages for everyone to see.
I really want a serie based in their books, which story is way better and not the same all the time
Fun fact: Thomas Astruc, the creator of Miraculous Ladybug, was a storyboard artist for Code Lyoko! So, if like me, you saw a ton of similarities between the two (bratty bougie daddy's girl, big bad that can possess people, all damage and memories get reset), that's why! :)
Glad I'm not the only one who noticed
They both have the same episode plot

The shear amount of horror movie references and existential horror this show really was a gem of writing.
As a side note on Franz and aelita's backstory, Franz created both Xana and lyoko, and aelita's mother was presumed killed by the men in black.
The code lyoko novels do give a different story about Aelita's Mother: she got her memories erased by Phoenix who wants to take over the super computer

For real this show was extremely dramatic for a kid
I wish you talked more about Xana. Like find it really interesting that this thing was never really seen and never talked but it's presence could seriously be felt as it's actions clearly painted it as scary, ruthless, and sinister.
Also thought this various monsters were really neat too. Love the couple eps where the monsters were sent to the real world and got to see them in the other animation style.
XANA is seen in the episode where it was finally defeated as a Ghost
I Guess also the end of season 2 and Ghost channel could count
Yeah, everybody thinks it was a computer virus but it's not. They literally tell you in one of Hopper's diaries that it was a military subterfuge artificial intelligence that went rogue. It's not a computer virus like everybody thinks it is. It's an AI that was designed for military subterfuge that decided it didn't want to do what humans commanded it to do anymore and instead decided it wanted humans to do what it says.
Idk about that. Xanas schemes went from "lol lets blow up a nuclear reactor" to "lets take over a gym teacher"
So it was basically Sauron
You could say Xana started going towards possessing people after realizing how vulnerable the team is in the real world and it does save power for his next big attempt.

They're all so unique (except Aelita) and I wanted to be a part of their group because I felt as if I'd fit in because I couldn't have found myself in a society just like them. What a trip.
I loved this show so much growing up, the originality, character development, even the dark themes. They just dont make shows like this anymore
It has all the weird anime trope things though that make it hard to recommend to a normal person...the android 18 forehead thing for the main characters was always off-putting
@@razkable Own up to it. It’s its art style and it’s unique. We should love it for that
@@PassTheSnails Yeah, it was unique but that doesn't mean it wasn't ugly.
Code Lyoko was a huge part of my childhood. So much so that it surprised me that I had totally forgotten about it until recently and decided to rewatch it. I didn't know if I would like it as an adult, and season 1 is definitely hit or miss for me, but there are some absolutely amazing episodes even in that season that I thoroughly enjoy. I took a break from it for the past month and a half, but now that i'm done watching this video, i'mma go ahead and start season 2. c;
Everything from the schools to the food they eat to literally even the pen types we had in school as well😂 , its was a very nostalgic trip for me
They could be set it im america or somewhere popular glad it wasnt
Lol cody lyoko
Hi from France, I'm happy to see French medias can be known outside of France :) So many French animated series from my childhood are not represented enough in the rest of the world, I'm glad this show is, you have no idea of the gems we had ^^
You should try to watch the French version now for the best experience, I know it can be weird but I grew up with the french dub of many famous american animated series, and now I watch these in the original language and I got used to it, plus I got much better in English by watching TV, I'd be pleased if people did the same with French medias :)
This show is absolutely great, and it feels refreshing to have an action sci-fi show like that taking place in a town in France, it doesn't happen often and certainly not in French cinema ^^
ouf
You got any other suggestions to watch from France?
It's crazy how many shows come from France. It's such a small country, but when you dig, y'all released quite a few shows
@@kieranwrightstone2199 Yeah sure, I've got multiple things of multiple genres, hold on :)
If it's about kids animated series you want I could suggest :
- *Wakfu* : a fantasy series about Yugo, a young kid who discovers he has abilities to teleport (Portal style) and decides with a group of friends of different species (Like Lord of the Rings but quite unique to this world) to go on a quest to find his origins, a high budget show inspired by japanese animation it's action packed and quite fun, it gets more mature with the seasons, the first half of season 1 is a bit boring though, but the rest is great, you can find it on Netflix. it's 2 season of 26 episodes each, plus 3 small specials, plus 3 big specials made before season 3 that is made of 13 episodes, season 4 is on the way
- *Martin Mystery* : Technically not so French but it the same creative team behind Totally Spies, basically a paranormal investigator teenager who works for a secret agency to hunt monsters/aliens/fantastical creatures, it's not a deep show with great character development, it's even a bit dumb but it's a lot of fun and it's the equivalent of horror movies but for kids, it fueled my nightmares growing up ^^
- *Foot 2 Rue* : (Translated by Street Football) It's a story about young kids of different social classes that gather to play soccer in the streets, they find out that everywhere in the world, kids play soccer so they decide to illegally organise a World Championship in their small city of South of France behind the police's back. This show is not really about soccer, but about the idea that everyone in the world can gather for a common goal despite the differences, and this show talks about subjects like violence, drugs, family issues, child labour, poverty etc... without too preachy, the art style is unique (like Code Lyoko) but this show is very powerful and emotional, it's 3 season of 26 episodes each (plus a 4 released recently)
- *Les Mystérieuses Cités d'Or (The Mysterious Cities of Gold)* : This show is a French-Japanese production from 1982 when animes started to be popular in France, this show is the reason why Avatar:TLA is only #2 in my heart, this one is #1 ^^ The story takes place during the XVIth century during the era of conquistadores, it's about Esteban a young spanish orphan who after the death of his adoptive father decides to go to the New Continent, he possesses a mysterious medallion which might come from the City of Gold so he decides to go to search for it to find his birth father, with 2 friends Zia and Tao, they cross the path of an ancient civilisation that has more secrets than it might seem. It is still extremely popular today, kids still watch it 40 years later, it even had a Blu-Ray remaster that I highly recommend, though no subtitles avalaible :/
I guess it would be pretty hard to find some of these shows with subtitles, and if they had american dub it's might have been censored (or not that well-done) but you could probably find it not so legally ^^ I could also suggest you French movies if you want, but it's mostly old movies, because French modern cinema is pretty shitty nowadays
@@LegendStormcrow Yes totally, but there is as much good stuff as there is bad stuff, you have to found the right ones ^^ I consumed a lot more of american shows growing up, especially Disney and Superhero ones, Europe is more and more influenced by US culture, mostly because of Hollywood, it represents such a huge part of cinema and TV in the entire world, so I guess the small number of French shows I watched made them more important to me, it'll never be as popular as american ones :)
I made a list of French 'kids' shows to @Kieran Wrightstone if you're interested
Most underrated show on Cartoon Network ever! Also I wish we got to see what Jeremy looked like in Lyoko.
(Even tho I'm making a fan fic of it. ) I made him almost have Williams character & i wz soo surprised when a fam like him actually came in! (I made the fan fic in my notebook I lost it but i remember what i tried to put lil. God this wz the shyt
Benefits of them using IRL locations as bases for their show locations, the level of continuity they trusted kids with was great.
This is true. It felt so real.
Remember when Jeremy would hit a key button and say, "Return to the past, now!" and then a huge flash of light appears? Epic.
Remember when Odd dropped a bunch of Candy on the keys and it wrote the code needed to bring back a SINGLE hair on Ailetas head, but they "couldn't save the code" so he went bananas trying to figure out what the candy typed?!
Or the virtualization start up 🔥
Dead ass can read that in his voice lmao
@@tekno4blood You’re mixing two episodes together. The hair was the episode where Aelita’s code got bugged because Jeremy effed up when materializing it and they used it to bring her back after she got reformatted and the candy on the keyboard was the episode where Yumi fell into the Digital Sea and they ended up having to use that program to bring Yumi back instead of materializing Aelita.
This was a show that as a kid I only caught reruns and years later was one of those "was it real or did I imagine it" memories. I had no idea that the show was so popular.
Learning about the ending episodes literally helped clear up one of the biggest mysteries from my childhood.
As a fellow Lyoko fan i've always loved this show, and i also appreciate you using my footage to express how great the franchise is, i pretty much went into full depth of how the game Quest For Infinity works in my Let's Play. Thanks again Jordan for your awesome review
Thanks for watching and for capturing some great looking footage fellow Code Lyoko fan! :D
Like when Ulrich and Yumi were baked alive in the sauna they couldn't take their time, right?
this is your favorite cartoon show lmao you haven't seen nothing yet
@@antoinewright1425 Bro, just stop.
@@tekno4blood It depends how you define death, really.
@@Bobb11881 just saying my dude if this is your absolute favorite idk what you been watching these last 15 20 years
One thing about this series that always stuck was me was the true scope of the virtual world.
I still to this day wish we got to see Jeremy, Sissy, and Jim in Lyoko.
I love how a lot of the fandom share the headcanon for the changes in 3d animation being it's the supercomputer being updated and upgraded by Jeremy overtime
The most underrated cartoon, it deserved soooo much better
This show was great, and a fun watch, I remember when the writers forgot that Odd actually didn't get his shield until season 2 during the Xana Awakens special, he uses it a couple of times, but during season 1 his "special abililty" was that basically useless "That's So Raven"-esque future sight nonsense.
Putting "in the beginning" on yumi's forehead made me laugh way harder than it should have 🤣 thank you
I'll never forget Code Lyoko.
Living in a lower budget home, this show kept me entertained for such a long time and created such amazing memories!!!!
When I tell you this was my watch on repeat show, the theme song still lives in my head rent free till this day.
Here we are, going far
To save all that we love
If we give, all we've got
We will make it through
Here we are, like a star
Shining bright on your world
this show is terrific. very glad people are still enjoying it and talking about it after all of this time.
For a kids show it was pretty dark
(I also played the "Code Lyoko: Quest for Infinity" game on Nintendo Wii around the same time.)
So, my history with Code Lyoko has been a roller coaster for the last decade.
Code Lyoko was one of my favorite shows as a kid! I REALLY wish CN bought the rights to the show cause if they did, we'd be seeing a reboot right now!
Kinda glad they didn't given CN is the one that stopped airing it 7 episodes before it finished, didn't even try to dub evolution, and well just look at the tragedy that is the Ben 10 or Teen titans reboots.
Oh hell no! They fucked up Teen Titans reboot, they can’t destroy Code Lyoko
@@daymianhogue1634 CN did the same thing to Zoids Chaotic Century. The last few episodes never went into circulation and as I remember I only got to watch them during a marathon on a Saturday afternoon. Such weird decisions went on during that time.
Bruh di you really want a reboot? And they do us in like they did the teen titans? Oh hell naw
I would've loved this idea had we not seen what they're willing to do to Thundercats, Ben 10, Teen Titans, and Powerpuff Girls. I don't want to see a butchering of one of my favorite shows, and we can't trust Netflix with animated shows anymore with how they axe things.
I rewatch this cartoon at least once a year. When I was a kid I had no friends so this cartoon was there for me my whole life
This show was such an integral part of my childhood and creative style that i can't believe I ever forgot it.
I might be in my 20s now, but I’d definitely watch it
Jordan man. You always know how to smak the nostalgia bone. Every episode I feel back in early 2000s
I never caught the show in order and if I didn’t I never knew and I loved it
I want Code Lyoko to return give us a proper season 5. They bring back shows all the time.
The code lyoko novels exist as a finale kinda
It's a bit of alternate continuity to the series but it also expands on Aelita's past
It also resurrected XANA though so...
To be honest this was my favorite show growing up. I loved the idea of transporting in a gamelike world and fighting monsters.
They couldn't shut off the computer as soon from the beginning after materializing everyone?

I rewatched every episode within a month and the show still holds up, Ulrich's my fave, dude is a freaking chad.
a good mix of 2d and 3d animation that makes sense in the world of the show. the cast have the standard teenage drama but it works as they are teenagers as well as the setting being unique for a kids show even in an overseas product.
although it's not without it's mistakes as some episodes xana is an unbeatable monster while other episodes he just messed with Yumi and the cast by doing basic stuff like kissing all around
I did like when they stopped using return to the past as it felt like wasting character development from the side cast and let the story flow forward. sissy was honestly better on my rewatch when I grew up seeing she had a lot more complexity towards her same as the side cast.
wish William had more to his character in the team as they treat him like garbage for no reason and the show could have given him more time to develop before going xana mode.
overall just a fun series that got better with time
now to the live action. that was better for william but not for the cast. they were so unlikable at times but sissy being friends wss good for her. the plot could have worked if they had better writers
the book series while strange seeing xana be a brother to alieta I think it could work for a reboot sense
Is Sissy a main character in the book series? If not then it's a waste of time.

i vividly remember watching the prequel episode with my younger sister, and we immediately fell in love with the show. eventually it seemed to disappear, and niether of us knew why. then in high school a friend of mine stumbled apon it, and it was great to learn this show wasn't some fever dream i had.
... eitherway this show is very nostalgic for me, and im glad to have found this retrospective
8:27 "why are u yelling"😭🤣🤣
Man this show was definitely part of my childhood I miss it so much
French viewer here: Thank you very much for covering this show.
Personally loved this series as a kid, thanks for the nostalgia trip bro!
This show was such a reformative experience for me growing up that I think it's almost solely to blame that I now study digital communication.
KAMEHAMEHA (does the kaiohken)
@@CassiusStelar I want the magic stick!!!! 😜😜😜😜😜😜
I'm So happy to see videos like this
Code Lyoko getting the attention that it deserved.
