you can remove the starter from the bottom without loosening the manifold, its weird but you can wiggle it out from underneath and put it back as well from underneath but it has to be in different angles wiggled back in place then you just tighten the bolts and then boom
I'm trying to help a friend of mine that has one of these and older man and I've got the two nuts the two nuts that are on studs on the manifold out I've got the four bolts to hold the manifold on and the manifold stuck I can't get it loose is there something I'm missing or they're more bolts that hold the manifold to the engine are there more than four bolts and two nuts
you can remove the starter from the bottom without touching the manifold , U already did BUT only Two trick that u need to do .... First free the wire coming from battery side to starter , so it will go with u down ( wire stopped u ) ..and there is a wire metal holder on the top of starter location ( free wire from it to let starter go down when u pull it) , Second: down left manifold metal bracket need to take off to get u more room ( 3 x12mm screws) and ur good to go ..
This job made me cry a little bit. After 5-6 hours (im a beginner apprentice) i finally got the old one out and new one in, eveything back together. Thankfully, the car now starts, unfortunately it has a rough idle. Im wondering if i didnt create an air leak somewhere. You never mentioned anything about intake manifold and throttle body gaskets. Wondering if theyre my ussue
This car made me cry a little too. Such a pain! The intake and throttle body gaskets are reusable rubber gaskets. But it is possible an intake gasket didn't seat right. If you have an air leak through one of the gaskets it should show up in your fuel trims. If you have a scan tool that can read live data check your short term fuel trims. If you see positive fuel trim above 10% at idle and it drops to around 0% when you give it throttle then you have a confirmed vacuum leak. This a link to a video that shows using fuel trims. It's on an f150 but the idea is the same for any car: ruclips.net/video/GXW0OerDmgQ/видео.html
If you remove the intake manifold, please be mindful that it has 4 orings for the ports, replace them. Youre already in, if you dont replace orings will have fuel leak plus the idle will be affected. Better remove whole intake replace 4 orings and the starter motor. I did with mine the 1st time like he did it and later down the road it started leaking fuel from the manifold soon to realize orings were crush when reused.
I appreciate this as a 2011 owner, helped me actually find my starter, now to just get the part and replace it

I'm glad you were able to do it that way. That's how the manual says. I tried for like an hour wiggling, twisting, pulling but nothing was working 😕.
@@ValleyMobileAutomotiveguess your hands are just too big and manly ;)
@@BigGreenVan lol I guess so! If I get the opportunity I'd love to try again.

@stephensilagy2196 Yes, there is a bracket under the manifold that needs to be unbolted.

Why no one wants to be a mechanic anymore 😪
Which ever way you cut it, this is a mongrel job..😢
I agree! If they gave you just one more inch of clearance this would be a breeze.
