for those of you wondering why your image looks flat you have to make sure that Preview Displacement is activated (shortcut D)...also be aware on the lower left hand side you have 3 different options for the displacement...Raise, Lower or Set. Press T if you want your View port to display the texture tiled. Yes, these are basic things, but it helps when you are brand new to the software and everyone just assumes you know what the hell you are doing....when obviously, you don't.
I've only recently come into touch with unreal engine 5 and what it can do and by extension your company. My mind is absolutely blown by what is out there in this area of creativity. It's amazing. Thank you.
Awesome video! I would really like to see strategies for dealing with tiled repetition in mixer. I think the new mixer has some specific features that help with this.
Hey Quixel, how did you do the animation like the stuff at 3:47 , I've got Toolbag 3 but I can't figure out the right export to make it look like yours, the video export loses quality.
He means it has no seams- The material itself will be pretty obvious if you only use one texture across a landscape. Which you should not. In combination with a few other textures and vert paint you can easily get a decent looking landscape
I have been trying to create sand stones the same stones used to build ancient Egyptian temples . but I can't get the right color can someone please give me the right formula
Awesome! Could you guys also do a tutorial on kinda opposite use of paint layers? That is, instead of making it for bumps to use it for deep cracks in the road for example? Also, what is the section those brushes are located? I was looking for those in "Brushes", but haven't found anything like this. "Free" doesn't have it too.
You can find many brushes on the Internet that can be used on mixers. So, this is very simple. You only need an alpha map, just like the ones in ZBRUSH.
What settings are you using for performance ? I have a 4790k, 2 - 980 gtx ti, 32 gigs ram and this program is crawling like a snail ? something i am missing here? should be flying through this.
1 - can i take photoshop brushes and use them in quixel mixer? 2 - is it possible to make the landscapes to tile randomly ? 3 - can you also give links to each of the induvidual scans used ( especally the moss ! ) in the video
First of, I don't know the answer to any of your questions since I haven't used Quixel Mixer before, however: 1. I don't think you can use a Photoshop Brush in Quixel Mixer, it seems to only accept JPEG or PNG (and so on). But what you can do is paint your brush in a blank canvas and save it as a PNG, or your preferred image type, because Quixel should accept that! 2. It's probably not possible to tile your texture randomly in Quixel Mixer, (or maybe it works). It shouldn't really matter, what you should care about is if that is possible in your engine of choice, which it is in both Unity and Unreal Engine 4.
How come I can't log into the online library?!! it drives me insane! I get the message to sign in with Epic Games instead though I am signing in with the Epic Game account!!!
Tried the brushes and found the visual outcomes are not the same. Very flat and they're all circular. Am I missing something, or are these lower quality brushes instead? :( Trying to make progress in my learning
I'm following along with 2018.1.2 Beta with the same brushes and settings but not getting the same results? My displacement is not as high and altho I can see the shallow disp, the diffuse is quite black?
Can i import my own materials from substance designer ? Or built a material(in quixel) with the extracted maps or files (colorBase, roughness, displace, normal...)
Thanx for the tutorial. Rubble_02_Brush is not working like on the video. 1) it has inverted effect 2)values are same but I can't get those displacement visual results. (Mixer 2020.1.1)
Can't find the Import Brush button on the latest version (2019.1.3.0). I tried to copy the files to the Custom folder, but they also didn't show up on the brush library. Any solution on how can I import those brushes? Thanks
so,thats is crazy but when i use in unreal engine the texure is plane, obviously, how i can to have this texture in my ground,or is so demanding for the hardware?
gNightrow you don't have to export and use the displacement map in your engine or renderer. You can specify exactly which maps you want in the exporter tab. :) What you can do is to pre-displace your mesh in a 3d software.
Yes absolutely! You can even export straight to Unreal using the Megascans Bridge live link. Simply go to File > Export to Library, and when you start Bridge the next time you will find your surface under the “Custom” category. From there you can export it straight to Unreal. Check out the Megascans + UE4 live link tutorial on our channel by Galen Davis to see it step by step :)

Spent ages to figure out all of these in the hard way. And now these 5 mins vids, makes me cry.. :D :D Good job!
This is exactly what I was looking for, figuring out how to import custom brushes and creating sculpts from scratch, so awesome.
I've only recently come into touch with unreal engine 5 and what it can do and by extension your company. My mind is absolutely blown by what is out there in this area of creativity. It's amazing. Thank you.
That's more like it! Appreciate the properly scale UI.
It looks like magic. I can't wait to experiment with it.
Did you Experimented with it?
I’m can’t get enough out of this program
Thank you for Quixel Mixer its really easy to learn.
So good to see you guys drop your software dependence on Photoshop. Hope you'll fully detach one day.
We need more video like that !
WoW!!! The future has come!
You make it seem so easy
That's some real kick ass stuff
I just downloaded Quixel Mixer today. I hope I will learn much.

Amazing speed to create materials
Awesome video! I would really like to see strategies for dealing with tiled repetition in mixer. I think the new mixer has some specific features that help with this.
Joe Andresen that's definitely something I can cover in an upcoming tutorial! Thanks for the suggestion. :)

WOW! Amazing Software.

This is quite amazing.. In substance designer I'd spend MANY hours...
Really impressive!
But is it really tilable, as you mention at 0:54, for large landscapes in Unreal Engine, Unity, or other software?
Thanks!
He means it has no seams- The material itself will be pretty obvious if you only use one texture across a landscape. Which you should not. In combination with a few other textures and vert paint you can easily get a decent looking landscape

Will there be a new video because the interface with the current one is confusing.
Zbrush ->sculpt rock and create alpha -> import it to qiuxel ,and watch the magic
Wow! That's good!
Please fix the link, I cannot find brushes like this anywhere
How do you make it infinite tillable at 2:28?
WINBUSH press T on your keyboard. :)
Nice. Just curious - does it need some special sw/hw specs to run smoothly like that ?
Its like photoshop but for textures
literally just thought the exact same thing
this awesome. but how do you create that custom sculpt brush and what format do you import it into mixer?
This is amazing.
Thank u sm
really great job quixel! with atlases, is there the possibility to paint masks for areas we wouldn't want the atlas to apply?
Please upload the boulder brush file again....given link is not working..... :(
I have been trying to create sand stones the same stones used to build ancient Egyptian temples .

Sure!!

I know, it's just easier to get them from one place, especially if they are supposed to be released.
What settings are you using for performance ? I have a 4790k, 2 - 980 gtx ti, 32 gigs ram and this program is crawling like a snail ? something i am missing here? should be flying through this.
Noob question, how did you turn your paint layer black in 1:01?
Whats the license/terms for the brushes you share in the link? The archive includes no readme or anything.
1 - can i take photoshop brushes and use them in quixel mixer?

Pardon my ignorance, but with Quixel mixer does it make 3d geometry or is it textures/materials to be applied to existing models?
Did quixel reinvent te wheel?
thanks
How are you getting that SNOW hdri?
Fantastic
How come I can't log into the online library?!! it drives me insane! I get the message to sign in with Epic Games instead though I am signing in with the Epic Game account!!!
Can you guys do some dedicated tutorial for Arch Viz
How do you put in the diffuse specular gloss displacement under paint in layers?
Tried the brushes and found the visual outcomes are not the same. Very flat and they're all circular. Am I missing something, or are these lower quality brushes instead? :( Trying to make progress in my learning
Would it be possible to make variations in each tiling of the texture?
Question...how to add "something" into Local Libary? is it called PBR material? im using it for free so i cant download it from online
so can we create our own textures from scratch like substance designer? or it uses scans only?
How do we use thiese textures on a custom mesh and render it with V-Ray ? - Can you export the model as if it was scan data?
I'm following along with 2018.1.2 Beta with the same brushes and settings but not getting the same results? My displacement is not as high and altho I can see the shallow disp, the diffuse is quite black?

Is this program only meant for ground materials, or is it possible to make materials for example building walls?
Vladislav Karagodin it can be used for floors, walls, ceilings, roofs and a lot more! :D
Wiktor Öhman oh that’s amazing!
The folder button to add a brush is gone, how does one add a custom brush now?
Thanx for the tutorial.

Could you direct me to a tutorial on how to create these sharp displacements in unreal ?

Awesome! Thank you! Is there a way to deplicate layers? I cant find any! XD Thank you!
Thank you! :D No, not yet - but it's coming!
Ah! Ok im not crazy! Hahaha Thank you! PS: Is there any way to give you feedback?
Not at all! : DAbsolutely - you could join the Quixel Community group on facebook. We'd love to see your works there as well. :)
Wiktor Öhman ok perfect! Thank you! :D

Any tutorial to set the map in maya with arnold please ?
Is there a way to get the texture to look almost as good without the displacement map in order for it to run better in games ?
gNightrow you don't have to export and use the displacement map in your engine or renderer. You can specify exactly which maps you want in the exporter tab. :) What you can do is to pre-displace your mesh in a 3d software.
Can these all be used in blender?
how do you make the symmetry brush that when u drag by one click you draw 4 other places in the scene?
Can i use the material i made in other programs? Such as unreal engine editor?
Yes absolutely! You can even export straight to Unreal using the Megascans Bridge live link.
