    Since FPV simply means First Person View perhaps the 'hobby' you refer to needs to think up a new name to distinguish itself from everything else?

      I think you are 100% correct. I’m a believer (as noted in my FPV FOR DUMMIES VIDEO) that FPV is FPV period. If a person flies in FPV mode with the assistance of a gyro/gps/occusync/safety features, etc… it is still FPV flying. People from the early days of FPV Quads tend to disagree and say it is not “real FPV flying”. The only difference is the FPV drone. You can have an FPV Drone with no assistance features and the pilot has FULL control or you can have a HYBRID FPV drone like the AVATA which has plenty of assistance & monitoring safety features. To me, the person flying either is most definitely an FPV Drone pilot.

    perfect explanation! I am new to FPV and purchased the Avata 1 a month ago, heavily discounted. as I still fly in 'Normal' and 'sport' mode and don't own a FPV controller (looking for a cheap one currently) than i'm really in no rush to purchase the Avata 2. i know it improves in everyway but the cost to performance for the upgrade is not justifiable just yet. i'll buy it in 12 months in a sale and when i've had a chance to practice and fly in manual mode and experencie the limitations of the avata 1

    I'm a forever beginner to FPV I guess as I have no intentions to delve into the nuances and heavy tweaking of the hobby and I know I don't have the reflexes to be really good so no bother. I will enjoy the normal and sport modes of the Avatas AND I will use the motion controller which is the most intuitive way to fly, analogous to a flight stick on a real plane which doesn't use gamepad controllers.
    Absolutely right about these DJI drones being the gateway drug into the FPV hobby only thing is that hobby isn't just FPV tweaking/build-yourself manual mode drones anymore but now includes us forever newbie legions lol

    Thanks for your insights. Always enjoy your videos and look forward to the new ones.
    I've played with dozens of RC models for more than 30 years...even longer than that if you count the Cox .049 control line planes and model rockets. I've built balsa gliders and nitro planes and had one of the first nitro powered heli's with mechanical gyro. Still have some old Futaba radios. Had fun messing around with Ardupilot mission planner.
    There's such a variety of ways to spend money in this hobby that it's always fun to see what the next improvement will be.
    Regarding the DJI Motion controller, I recently got one that I use with my mini 3 pro quite often, along with the Integra goggles and head tracking. To me, it adds another dimension to flying, and even though it is a beginner type controller, it's a blast to be able to just point where you want to go and pull the trigger, also the head tracking is really awesome, being able to fly a certain direction and looking all around while maintaining the trajectory.
    Anyway, my 2 cents.

    Sad to hear all the hate for the motion controllers. Ive been flying R.C. craft since the 70s from fixed wing, jets, 3d helis and drones from the very beginning.
    The motion controller is absolutely ground breaking and very nice for doing whoop video flying.
    But most importantly, i love being able to get my fellow veterans to now be able to fly. Its hard to rip up the sky with 1 arm.
    The motion controller is nothing short of an incredible development for many reasons.
    Of course its not great for hard core FPV, But lets be honest here. DJI does not, nor have they ever made a hard core FPV craft.
    Just sayin, all the hate on the motion controller is pretty petty. The only people having an issue with it are snobs or hardcore FPV pilots who already know its not designed or marketed to hardcore FPV.

    • @CAPTAINDRONE798
      @CAPTAINDRONE798  2 месяца назад

      I should clarify… when DJI brought out the motion controller back in the day of the DJI FPV it failed to sell as people had no use for it. But it found a place amongst people with are mobility issues, kids, wives, and people that flew occasionally. DJI forcefully bundled it with the AVATA to give first time pilots an easy flight experience. However all DJI Pilots that came from the MAVIC world wanted a controller so few use it. Since it is in item that does not exit in the FPV hobby, it gets made fun of.

    • @Amberdogproductions
      @Amberdogproductions 2 месяца назад +1

      @@CAPTAINDRONE798 perhaps generally true, I've owned nearly every drone DJI has ever made with the exception of the enterprise.
      With that said, for filming, I have really enjoyed the motion2. I was not a fan of the motion1 as it limited your ability to do orbits or reverse.
      I will say, that one would have been a welcome option for the flamewheel lineup.
      I'm just happy it's a piece of kit that is available to those in need, or just want a more relaxed flight experience, yet still enjoy being in the driver's seat.
      Not everyone wants to jet through abandoned building windows.
      I know we'll the level of experience it takes to do it, just as a true 3d heli which is vastly harder.
      Love your channel and look forward to hearing your thoughts on the AV2.

      FPV is FPV… there is no “true FPV”. FPV for beginners is the way to get more people into the hobby, which is great! I review a crazy number of beginner FPV RTF KITS on the market. Every beginner FPV kit pretty much gives the pilot the opportunity to continue to advance their flying skills until such time that they can fly with zero assistance in Manual mode and then do spectacular flying.

I'm considering the Avata2 as a replacement for my Mini 3 Pro, which I rarely fly but I can imagine scenarios where I'd fly the Avata2 over my other FPV quads beyond what I can readily do with the Mini 3 Pro (with the Motion Controller 2). I just wish I could run it with ELRS so I could use my Radiomaster Boxer with it.

    I won't be purchasing the AVATA 2. I spent hours (over 100) in sims flying FPV before I purchased the AVATA 1. I'm no too interested in extreme acrobatics. Just having the feel of flight and getting some cool video you can't really get with a regular camera drone. So I once I was pretty sure I could crash with confidence, I got the AVATA 1. Ran the DJI sim in the goggles (goggles 2 and you are correct the fit is not so great) a few times then set out to fly the AVATA. First time trying to fly, Turned everything on... over heat. And that set the standard for trying to fly the AVATA. I always have to rush to get it in the air before it shuts down for over heating. So unless the AVATA 2 solves that (and more) I highly doubt I will purchase one. Oh and yes... I did see your video where you warned of the over heating, but I'm stubborn and the flight time of the AVATA was a bit selling point for me at the time.

    When the Avata came out I really debated getting it and ultimately it was the falling out of the sky bugs that kept me from opting in. Now that the avata 2 is on the horizon I'm really tempted again. I've been flying cam drones for forever and have always really wanted to dip my toe into fpv, but generally for me to justify the money and time for getting into fpv I've felt like I'd need something that could potentially work for me in a professional setting and I don't have the type of clients who are going to put up with many of the shortcomings of more experienced pilot oriented fpv drones. The avata series looks like it would check some of the boxes in being halfway between a cam drone and a true fpv drone while being training wheels for me to get into the fpv hobby. That said I really wish it came with the regular remote or even more selfishly a remote like the smart controller the mini 3 pro comes with so I could fly it both as a learner fpv mode and in a cam drone style.

    I like my Goggles 2 and being able to adjust my visual settings on the fly because like you I don’t have 20/20 vision and that is a sweet feature.
    I get the drone, the stupid battery revamps and blades. Being forced to toss out expensive goggles every other year replacing another controller that is exactly the same as the previous one just a OcuSync version that gives a tiny boost in range that isn’t backwards compatible with the older one and you cannot use the older version.
    Just because the damn drone isn’t backwards compatible because DJI needs to scam for more money 💰
    Just saying, we shouldn’t be forced to replace everything every time a new Avata drone comes out. We should be set for years on the Goggles and the controller for at least close to most of a decade.
    Love DJI, but could do with less of this bull sheet up sells. 😊

    LOL. I wasn’t planning to buy the Avata 2 until I watched you!!! Now I’m thinking I’m gonna…flip. 😁 My original Avata has about 12 minutes of flight time. Only inside my house…so feels right to upgrade! 😉 Really, I’m just hoping the 2 is quieter! The 1 made me run back to my Mini 3 Pro.

    The only let downs about the avata 2 are the smaller fov from goggles 2 and still no hdmi input so I can’t use them with other fpv equipment that requires hdmi.

    It is interesting that over the past 24 hours there at least a couple dozen channels suddenly releasing their "Review" of the AVATA 2. I have not watched them all, but I've noticed they have eerily similar talking points and rave about it. Personally I do not consider such videos to be reviews, I consider them to be demos because they lack any significant cons. And any cons are more like feature requests that can be added in future software updates.

    • @CAPTAINDRONE798

      DJI does indeed issue reviewers with talking points. Also, DJI reviewers are not permitted to say anything seriously negative or they will be blacklisted from future free DJI product reviews.

    I currently have a M2pro and bunch of FPV quads from GepRC, Diatone and others. I can fly the FPV drones I have but I would only describe my skills as fair to average. Very interested in the Avata 2 but I'm also interested in a possible Air 3S as a replacement for M2Pro. Yes, I know they are very different beasts but I will have to make a call because I cant afford both.

    Hey Captain, do you know if the motion controller 3 can be used with the Avata 1 ??
    I, for one, use the motion controller a lot, with my DJI FPV and my Avata 1. I like the joystick type of control.

    Nice one Capitan. I've had my eye on a DJI Avata 2 for a while now.... maybe I could buy a good secondhand Avata 1 setup at a really good price from someone who wants to upgrade OR bite the bullet and pay the $1200 USD ($1843 AUD)???
    Not for a while because I am modding the 455 stroker engine in my 1969 Pontiac GP.
    If it's got wheels, Tits, Floats or Flies its gunna cost you big bucks But hey you can't take it with you.

    Steve, do you know if a 65W USB-C Wall Charger for Laptops can be safely used to charger the Avata 2 batteries? DJI wants $79 USD for their charger whereas anyone can pick up a $20 USD 65W USB-C charger. Thanks for providing great advice.

    • @CAPTAINDRONE798
      @CAPTAINDRONE798  2 месяца назад +1

      I’m not sure as my AVATA 2 was only ordered yesterday and will take a few weeks to arrive. DJI usually makes their batteries able to handle a wide range of wattages so you’re probably fine. If the lights flash quickly, then that tells you the power is incorrect.

      Probably a DJI Mini 4 SE. DJI is unable to make an under 250 Gram FPV drone and squeeze in all the safety and long flight performance.

    Hey Steve, quick question from a noob in the FPV hobby now. My first drone is a mark5 with the DJI 03 air unit. So it's PNP. If I buy the remote and goggles....would they still work together. I'm assuming they would but unsure as I'm hearing different frequencies mean different equipment needed which is all understandable until you get to DJI PNP drones like the mark5 lol think it'll still work no problem?

      @@CAPTAINDRONE798 yes I've watched that video haha that's how I got mine to bind with the mark5. I just wasn't sure if since it's a new transmitter for goggles 3 and RC3 if it would work. But I guess 03 air unit may perhaps be the most updated on released and would work.
      Could I possibly pick your brain sometime about ELRS setups and signal strength what each mean etc etc maybe a beginner video break down to make it simplistic and allow others like myself to make sound decisions from there.
      But all else a side thank you. You got me into the FPV world with the video(s) series mentioned. Very thankful for everything you do for us!!

    my only one question - did they add option to disable this annoying height limiter? not that limiter that is 500m. Im about limiter that dont allow you to go lower than 30 cm and at all - avata slows down its descending when flyes lower than 5 meters above anything.

    • @CAPTAINDRONE798

      That feature would certainly remain as the drone (AVATA) is always in self-protection mode.
