After 25 years of practicing dentistry I can tell you that the profession has changed a lot. The best advise I got was from my mentor who was the owner of the practice I purchased. 1. You do not need to buy every new technology or new piece of equipment. 2. Save your money dont invest in things you dont understand 3. Dont own multiple dental offices, why would you want to multiply your stress levels? 4. Divorce is the worst thing that can happen to you as a professional. Spend quality time with your spouse and children. 5. Pay your staff well. They are backbone of your office. Good luck to you.
Yay! Been waiting for this! I love how Sarang talks about enjoying the process and being able to find happiness in the small things. Definitely something we can all work on ☺️

Can’t agree more with having good rapport with your dentist. I had some bad dental work in my life and I’ve been very wary of dentists ever since. My current dentist has been extremely supportive, understanding, and informative. Finding happiness when you are struggling can be hard. I would agree that finding the things you are grateful for and appreciate helps bring in some positivity. I also believe that always thinking about the hardships and negativities will put you on a downward spiral. If you can put a positive spin on it or tackle it with a different approach. Instead of focusing on what NOT to do, focus on what you should do i.e. instead of "don't walk off this path." or "don't trip over this rock." instead think "follow the path". Just got to find a way to implement that into your own situation and context.
Thank you for the video dr. yoo! im currently studying for the DAT and its so draining sometimes I wonder why im even trying to cram all of this content in... so dr. choi's advice of just enjoy and taking care of ourselves really hit me :(( would love more related q&a's!!
I work as a receptionist at a private owned dental office. I can also be a dental assistant when needed by the dentist. And you are right, it is physically demanding to be a dentist! People think you just clean teeth all day and that’s it! It’s much more than that! Gotta think RCTs, fillings, crowns, post and core/build ups, dentures, sometimes implants, EXTs. My dentist is the only one doing this stuff! It is not a group practice with other dentists! She works late doing charts and such.
I will also add about patients thinking dentists “steal” their money or “bamboozle” them, some dentists ARE like that! But not all! The dentist I work for is honest and has good integrity! This one patient brought in her son and he got scammed out of $10,000 that made his condition worse than it was before! My dentist came up with a solution that costed around $800 and has never felt better! Had another patient came in after her wisdom teeth extraction from an OS and she was only 12/13 and they prescribed her Oxycodone. She didn’t feel any better. She saw us and got prescribed Tylenol 800mg? The Rx strength Tylenol and she felt better in a day! All depends on who has your best interests at heart!
I think having the little bead of moments to remind ourselve to be happy is relatively difficult to some people, especially when you are struggling somewhere admist of something, we should instead fuel ourselves with those moments whenever we want to give up on something that is draining. Being adults has made most of us to lose the capability to be happy at anytime, especially those professionist that may have to carry the weight of their "customers" back to home or sleep with it. For those who read my comment, I just want to let you know, we are all struggling for a better tomorrow, and you deserve the rights to take a break and find the stuffs which could calm your mind or temporary switch your mind from the draining one. It could be as simple as meditation, being foodie. Your future will be bright and you are the best.
❤️❤️❤️ it is a physically and mentally stressful profession. It can be redundant also. That's why we also need to have other interests aside from the practice.
Listening to your conversation was like being one of my English classes. Starts it out light and then it gets deeper but it sort of like therapeutic. Wonderful to relate with people from another profession. Yes, we’re all humans anyway 😊😊😊
I have a lot of respect for her for once being a mean girl (and admitting it) but not being that way anymore. That's called maturity and growing up. Good for her. There is a lot of wisdom there.
35?... she's 35? No way she's 35 😳 😱 she doesn't look a day over 25.... oh and as far the finding happiness in small things, I agree. I still remember this quote that said "if you can't find happiness in a cup of coffee, then u won't find it in a yacht". It's sometimes hard to find happiness in the small things especially when I think about my university, full days and planning is hard. I have a hard time stopping an assignment in between, so I usually go on and on until I'm done with the day. This doesn't give me much free time. John.... how did you do the planning to have free time. Or how did you experience uni/residency?
2:20 when i was a kid, i always said "i hate dentist" and i had so many reasons not going there. why? Because everytime went there, i heard many kids cried. But now, not anymore.

Thank you so much✨️
I'm in the dental field also! You guys look great together! Ever thought of going on a date together?!
I was WAITING for this 😩😩😩😩
Like her ... love dr. Choi so much ... she is incredible amazing ! 😊😁
❤️❤️❤️ it is a physically and mentally stressful profession. It can be redundant also. That's why we also need to have other interests aside from the practice.
Preach on!
There is chemistry here
Such a wonderful and full of sense of humour doctor. All the best and good luck
Listening to your conversation was like being one of my English classes. Starts it out light and then it gets deeper but it sort of like therapeutic. Wonderful to relate with people from another profession. Yes, we’re all humans anyway 😊😊😊
Finding happiness to that struggles wowww you got it right and I difinitely agree 💯.
I have a lot of respect for her for once being a mean girl (and admitting it) but not being that way anymore. That's called maturity and growing up. Good for her. There is a lot of wisdom there.
I've been waiting for this vid ever since the halloween one 👻!! Yay

What do you imagine 35 year olds to look like? All wrinkly and sagging? Wtf 35 is still young.
@@sakshishopaholic don't be so hurt in your feelings 🤣🤣 all I'm saying is that she looks 25. ➕ I never said 35 is old whatsoever. Lol 😆
Dr John why are you very handsome, cute aww i'm crying 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
@Dr.Jhon I am happy and grateful to see ur face everyday 🥰🥰

2:20 when i was a kid, i always said "i hate dentist" and i had so many reasons not going there. why? Because everytime went there, i heard many kids cried. But now, not anymore.
Literally 1:02min in the video, n I feel good pumped with good energy n excited 😍 this is sooo cool!
This is so true. Its so physically demanding. I have fever neck and back issue after dentistry. Very serious issues.
WE NEED A PART 2 !!!!!
I love this interview ! Please do more. My neck and back were cracking at the same time as the the sound effects 😂
Serious question, how do you keep your cool around one another 🤔
Some people act like they have become relaxation impaired. They forget how to take a break from the grind long enough to slow down and breathe deeply.
insta like for this long awaited collaboration :) wish to shadow y'all someday after dental school. Both of you have amazing background, Keep being awesome both of you :D
I'm studying dentistry too....Saw the thumbnail and I was like wait wait a sec....that's Sarang Choi....and this is John Yoo! These two pretty people know each other?!?!?!
