    Preparation
Before performing Idle Air Volume Learning, make sure that all of the following conditions are satisfied. Learning will be cancelled if any of the following conditions are missed for even a moment.
Battery voltage: More than 12.9V (At idle)
    Engine coolant temperature: 70 - 100 C (158 - 212 F)
Park/neutral position (PNP) switch: ON (Shifter in Park or Neutral)
Electric load switch: OFF (Air conditioner, headlamp, rear window defogger)
    Steering wheel: Neutral (Straight-ahead position)
    Vehicle speed: Stopped
Transmission: Warmed-up (Drive vehicle for 10 minutes.)
    Operations Procedures
    1. Confirm that accelerator pedal is fully released, turn ignition switch “ON” and wait 3 seconds.
    2. Repeat the following steps (2a and 2b) procedures quickly five times within 5 seconds.
2a. Fully depress the accelerator pedal (HARD).
2b. Fully release the accelerator pedal.
    3. Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 10 seconds until the CEL starts blinking.
    4. Fully release the accelerator pedal (while the CEL is still blinking)
    5. Wait about 10 second.
    6. Fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for more than 10 seconds.
    7. Fully release the accelerator pedal (The CEL light will continue to blink).
    8. Turn ignition switch to “OFF” position and now you can start the car. The CEL light should be gone.
If the CEL light continues to remain ON, repeat the above steps. Timing is EXTREMELY critical to resetting the ECU.
    Accelerator Pedal Release Position Learning
    Operation Procedure
    1. Make sure that the accelerator pedal is fully released.
    2. Turn ignition switch “ON” and wait at least 2 seconds.
    3. Turn ignition switch “OFF” wait at least 10 seconds.
    4. Turn ignition switch “ON” and wait at least 2 seconds.
    5. Turn ignition switch “OFF” wait at least 10 seconds.
    Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning
    Operation Procedures
    1. Make sure that accelerator pedal is fully released.
    2. Turn ignition switch to “ON”.
    3. Turn ignition switch to “OFF” wait at least 10 seconds.
Make sure that the throttle valve moves during above 10 seconds by confirming the operating sound.
Idle Air Volume Learning (Throttle Position Learning)
It is better to count the time accurately with a clock.
    1. Perform “Accelerator Pedal Released Position Learning”.
    2. Perform “Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning”.
    3. Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
    4. Turn ignition switch “OFF” and wait at least 10 seconds.
    5. Confirm that the accelerator pedal is fully released, then turn ignition switch “ON” and wait 3 seconds.
    6. Repeat the following (steps 7a, 7b) procedures quickly five times within 5 seconds.
7a. Fully depress the accelerator pedal (HARD)
7b. Fully release the accelerator pedal.
    8. Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 20 seconds until the Check Engine Light (CEL) stops blinking and turned ON.
    9. Fully release the accelerator pedal within 3 seconds after the CEL is ON.
    10. Start engine and let it idle.
    11. Wait 20 seconds.
    12. Rev up the engine two or three times and make sure the idle speed and ignition timing are within the specifications.

Wow man, this really helped a lot. I recently finished fixing up my 2006 g35 coupe and realized that it the idle was being very weird. It jumped from 600 rpm’s to 1000 back down to 600, and made the car annoying at times. I found this video without realizing I had to relearn the idle, since I did remove the throttle body to replace valve covers. This video helped a lot and I just finished the relearn.

I cleaned the throttle body on my 06 G35x (107k miles). After doing so, I noticed that the rpm was a bit higher than usual on decel and idle. The car would propel itself and maintain speed on its own if you caught the rpm at the right time around 1300. After doing this the idle immediately went back to normal and the car decels normal. Thanks as always, your vids are easy to follow, informative and entertaining. Been watching for 4+ years :)

I should add that after my Service Engine light started blinking it stopped then went out. I kept the pedal down. After a few seconds it started blinking again and went out. Pedal still held down. Light started blinking again and finally went steady. After a second or two I started the engine. Then I rev’ed it up a couple of times as you suggested. Shortly after, the idle dropped down and settled around 500rpm. Prior to your procedure the idle was around 1100 rpm. Thank you again

I sometimes get very rough/jumpy gear changes in automatic (G37X)
The car has no get up, limited power etc. Have to use manual mode to get it somewhere to park, where I inevitably find a high idle, and sometimes an engine warning light.
This usually only happens in extremely wet or snowy conditions, maybe once every few months or so.
This video, the idle relearn completely fixes and solves the issue everytime. Thanks!

I found an even EASIER way to reset my throttle position sensor and idle air settings. I removed the Cable from both neg and positive posts. I REMOVED the throttle connector(s) on the HR models 07-09. And I waited 30 minutes. I reconnected the battery cables. Then I reconnected the throttle body connectors. I started the car up and the throttle was RESPONSIVE AF and the Idle was back to the right position.. I Believe it worked for the ECU too.. My check engine light was cleared as well.. Been 3 months and it's still going smooth

    • @notafraid551
      @notafraid551 7 лет назад

No I mean there is literally no check engine light on the dash of the older g35s, so idk if this idle relearning would work for those years. It only has the service engine soon light in the gauge cluster. When the car idles, sometimes randomly there is like a tiny deep pop and the car shakes a little more when that happens

    • @MotordyneG35
      @MotordyneG35  7 лет назад

Thank you for this video. I resolved the P0507 code on a 02 Maxima. I'd tried using the procedure in other videos that have you doing the entire throttle position relearn sequence, and not breaking off the actual airflow recalibration as its own sequence. I never got the flashing engine light with other videos because the sequence was so lengthy that I screwed something up. Like others here, I watched your video along while I did the same actions in real time. So easy! And the idle speed dropped noticibly from crazy fast (lurching when I put into drive) to normal subdued, showing around 700 RPM on the tach.

It dropped my idle down from 1200 rpm to 1000 rpm on a 2002 Infinity I35. The procedure worked as the video and gentleman explains. Still runs a little rough but did seem to calm down the initial start up. Thank you for the video as Im now a tad more intimate with the vehicle.

MC Surreal .....idle should be at 650rpm. Did you have A/C on? With A/C on idle is like 950 to 1,000 rpm.

Motordyne G35 I did as you said and turned all accessories off including AC and Radio. I replaced the Mass Air Flow Sensor and that's why I was looking up how to relearn or reset the idle. Im going to replace the idle Air Control Valve now and then try the technique you presented again. Thanks for the response and great video.

Wow, glad I stumbled upon this video after touching my throttle body butterfly during cleaning yesterday. I went to leave my house afterward and much to my surprise(not really), my Z idled at 2k rpm steadily then dropped to about 1500 then back to 2k over and over. I’m hoping this is the issue. Thanks for the info!

This works! I changed my stock throttle bodies in my 2016 45th Aniversary GTR to Curt Brown’s 36 mm polished and bored-out throttle bodies, which required the throttle body relearn. No P0507 code and the idle speed is back within spec.

This is a good video to get you out of a jam as well. If you replaced throttle body and didn't relearn right away; a bunch of codes might pop up because the computer is confused. It's ok to reset some of these codes while the engine is running, and the rest while the car is not. When you finally clear all codes; proceed with this procedure.

@Motordyne G35 ...Thank you so much for this helpful video! I bought a new throttle body for my Nissan Altima. One repair shop said they would not install it, another shop installed it but did not know they needed to do a relearn procedure (neither did I, at the time).

Hey motordyne..... First of all I want to thank you for all your dedication you have given into all your various video that have been released! I (we, the viewer's ) have gained a plethora of knowledge from your research! I recently bought a 06 g36 sedan this last summer. I started out installing a 5/16 plenum spacer (yes, reviewed you insight on this) and never thought twice of resetting the idle air circuit...so this whole time ive lived with a higher idle approx. 950-1000 rpm's.and 2k+ cold starts! I excused this problem believing it was the intake that i installed at the same time and was in need of a tune.. when i came across the video i was interested in the idea that i may benefit form this. So tonight after work, i followed the instruction you clearly laid out and....... snap! my idle is right on the money. no more brake lag (harder to stop a vehicle with partial throttle plate opened all the time) and no more exceeding high idle start-up. We appreciate the material you deliever.. keep up the good work!!
