- Wir danken dir, Herr Jesu Christ (Lord Jesus, We Give Thank to Thee) BuxWV 224by Dietrich Buxtude (1637-1707), played on the 1963 Hammarberg organ in Boda Church, Rättvik, Sweden. The organ has some pipe material from the previous 1874 Åkerman organ. Here I'm using: GR: Principal 8', Oktava 4', Mixtur IV; CH: Gedakt 8', Rörflöjt 4', Waldflöjt 2', Regal 8'; PED: Subbas 16', Principalbas 8', Flöjt 4'.

Good Friday and a hymn of gratitude.🙏In 'Wir danken dir, Herr Jesu Christ' (Lord Jesus, We Give Thank to Thee) we give thanks to Jesus for delivering us from eternal death through his own death.✝A hymn of comfort and confidence rather than the usual Good Friday sorrow and self-accusation, this setting by Buxtehude has a lovely sort of serious yet bright stateliness to it, and as such it works all year around actually.✨Hope you like this little chorale, and as always - don’t forget to click on the thumbs-up and subscribe!🙂(And don't miss the upcoming Easter videos!)
What a beautiful, well-found registration that sounds superb.
With some of the Buxtehude chorales I immediately find a registration I like - with this one I tried many many different combinations before settling for this one...!
Bach Choral Preludes "Set the Scene", Buxtehude takes you "on a journey" with the registrations.
