Sehr schön auf dieser romantischen Orgel
Den första delen måste på något sätt ha inspirerat den 150 år yngre amerikanen Harry P Guy i trion i hans trevliga ragtimevals "Echoes from The Snowball Club". Kanske spelades Vogler hemma i barndomshemmet?!
Very good. Merry Christmas and a happy new year.
Nice registration contrast.
Thanks for a lovely Advent reflection.
And so it is the fourth Sunday of Advent, a day that focuses on Virgin Mary and the annunciation of Christ’s birth, when the archangel Gabriel came down to tell Mary that she would bear a son, thus related to Annunciation Day in March.🕯🕯🕯🕯🤰Mary responded with the so called Magnificat, a song of praise for the Lord, words that have been set to various Gregorian tunes, and here Buxtehude uses the one on the ninth tone. The words are: "My soul doth magnify the Lord. And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. For he hath regarded the lowliness of his handmaiden: For behold, from henceforth: all generations shall call me blessed."🎶✨ The first verse in Buxtehude’s setting is meditative (perhaps a meditation on the mystery of the immaculate conception?), reminiscent of vocal music, and the tune is played very slowly in the pedals. The second verse is a livelier fantasia, where only the first three notes of the tune can be heard, surrounded by faster notes sounding like little snowflakes falling down.🌨❄❄❄ Hope you like it, and as always - don’t forget to like, follow, and subscribe! (And don’t miss all the upcoming Christmas videos!)😃

Hello Henrick. Very beautiful chorale where Bach is not far away..
He certainly isn't...!
It’s the third Sunday of Advent, and it’s time for some sweet American Advent music!🕯🕯🕯🇺🇸'Gottes Sohn ist kommen' as it is known in German, or 'Once He Came in Blessing', as it is known in English, is an Advent hymn telling us how Jesus once came to Earth, and that he’s coming both today and at the end of time.👶🌟John Leavitt’s setting is modern but with a hint of Baroque, especially the way that he embellishes the melody, and it has that unmistakably American sugariness to it, that is so easy to like!🍬Now as always - don’t forget to like, follow, and subscribe!😃
Todd Wilson, along with us at Lake Erie College on the committee for the restoration of E.M. Skinner op. 647 enjoyed an ideal collaboration together. Some 10 alumnae, who quickly became known as The Ladies on campus, believed--"not doubting"--in a positive outcome to tne project. Through individual phone calls and thank you notes written in beautiful (and sometimes a bit shaky) American cursive they made short shrift of raising around $ 1 million for the restoration itself and for perpetual maintenance of the instrument. To paraphrase Indiana Jones, 'they didn't wanna know the odds.' (Over against the project.) Todd lent his signature unreserved, warm, optimistic support throughout the process. He also played the inaugural which began with the Duruflé Variations on Veni Creator. The performance hit me hard...flew me (College Organist) to the moon. Every other thing in this world got tuned out. It was a rare encounter with 4D timelessness. Back down to Earth, almost, with THAT unfolding of the Bach Passacaglia. Lord have mercy! To end the event, before an SRO audience, an improvised (organ) symphony on Saint Anne, the College Hymn. Bonus: Anne is the name of Todd's wife. The harmonies and colors were those of Ducasse and his pupil Duruflé, but subdued in such a way that would, to the ears of a lay American audience, not need the slightest "acquired taste" to hit home. May I, lastly, honor the name of the chairperson of the Committee? Jeanne Leroy. An anecdote that is OK to tell, now, since sufficient time has passed: During the St Anne improv Jeanne leaned over to me, cupped her hand a little and said in a kind of "Sprechstimme:" Mark. We got away with murder! Yes, Todd Wilson. But also the Cleveland state of mind which I, from a one-horse town in northern Arizona, could never have imagined existing in this land of ours. Thank you, eternal *Diapason* people, for taking my comment! ❤
Beautiful organ. Unbelievable masterpiece. I'm not sure why you chose to change Brahms' music around 4:40 time mark. Why add 16th rests where they aren't written. I dont believe we should be changing the piece. I'm just learning this now, so I suspect there could be other changes you made, but this is the very obvious one. Beautiful playing and great work on the accuracy of notes. I like this slower tempo. But i will pick it up once I get the feel for it. So much finger substitution means a slower tempo. For those who dont care about legato, a faster tempo will work. I have a feeling Brahms wanted this masterwork significantly faster.
En hundrade gång. Legatot.
Contemplation!
I really like this one.. it can be played in so many different ways depending on the mood...
It’s one of those pieces I always wanted to play but I never got around to (despite it being so short!), but I always (like for 20 years or more) knew I was gonna play it on this stop…!
Beautiful ❤❤

For the Second Sunday of Advent I give you a little meditation, signed J. S. Bach.🕯🕯This hymn was associated with Christmas in Bach’s days, but I think it’s even better for Advent, and I’m gonna tell you why: the first three words, "Jesu, my joy" are perhaps a bit misleading, for this hymn doesn’t describe jolliness, but is a prayer that Jesus would be our joy and our heart’s desire, and that we would turn away from all earthly distractions, that all mournful spirits go away, for now Jesus enters in. And that is what Advent is: a time of preparing ourselves for the advent (=arrival) of Christ in the stable.👶🫏🐑🌟Bach only writes tempo indications for a handful of his many chorale preludes, but here he writes 'Largo', to make sure that it’s really played slowly. Also, he picks a dark key, C minor, which is lower than his other settings of this hymn, all in all creating one of the most sombre and mysterious chorale preludes in his entire production.🌚✨Hope you like it, and as always - don’t forget to click the thumbs-up and subscribe!😃

@@HenrikBergpianorganist Thank you! I’ve already subscribed and turned on the notifications. Looking forward to your videos! 😊
Well done. Superb but.. not easy I think.
Thank you! Certainly not easy! Especially on this organ, where the pneumatic action is quite direct on the 1st manual, notably slower on the 2nd and 3rd manuals, and even slower in the pedals. So you have to sort of rush your feet while dragging behind the tempo on the 1st manual.😵💫Add to that some very tricky acoustics, it was all super blurry already at the console, which is situated right in front of the organ…! Had to lower the tempo considerably. I wasn’t at all prepared for this, having practised on a tracker action organ in a relatively dry acoustic (it was my first time at this instrument).😅
@@HenrikBergpianorganist So .. bravissimo !
Happy First Advent Sunday!🕯'Macht hoch die Tür' is the most popular Advent hymn in Germany, and happens to be no. 1 in the German Lutheran hymn book (Advent Sunday is also the first Sunday of the liturgical year). Based on the famous 24th psalm of the Old Testament, the first verse goes: "Make the door high, open the gate wide; the Lord of glory is coming, a King of all kingdoms, a Saviour of the whole world, who brings salvation and life with him; therefore shout for joy, sing with gladness: Blessed be my God, my Creator, rich in counsel." Karg-Elert’s setting is so powerful and energetic, it really makes the doors blast fully open, almost exploding…! 🚪💥😅 The hymn tune moves around between hands and feet, surrounded by a multitude of fast notes. For this recording I had the pleasure of playing the magnificent 1929 Setterquist organ in the equally magnificent medieval cathedral of Linköping.⛪🤩 Now as always - don't forget to click the thumbs-up and subscribe!😃
Can you do the 12 variations of this tune by w.a mozart on this organ?
I guess I could work around the fact that he's all the time using notes that are outside of this organ's keyboard range, both in the treble and in the bass. So did Vogler, but not to the same extent, so it was easier to adapt. Mozart also writes more dynamics that are impossible to do on the organ (crescendos, diminuendos), but I suppose the bigger variety of tonal colours could make up for that. So the short answer is: yes, I think I could!
@ works for me
Perfect ! Good Sunday !
Good second half of the week!
🙏🥰
…and now a third lovely little Reger chorale, "Jerusalem, Thou City Fair And High"!🏰For the last Sunday of the liturgical year, whether you call it Judgement Sunday, Eternity Sunday, Feast of Christ the King, or Return of Christ - here’s a hymn about the New Jerusalem, the celestial city built of pure gold in the New Heaven and New Earth that will come after the end times.🌍✨A place without pain and sorrows, where innumerable choirs with hundreds of thousands of voices will sing hallelujah and hosanna in eternity.🎶Hope you like it, and as always - don’t forget to like, follow and subscribe!😃
Superb playing and incredible organ!
Thank you. It’s a lovely instrument!
A chorale that I really like and that we sing in France.
A melody of French origins, as it happens!
A midweek bonus!🎁Since we’re still at the end of the liturgical year - a hymn about the joys and bliss of the afterlife! "Rejoice greatly, oh my soul!"🎉This hymn tells us we’ll be free of all torment and misery, and reach the eternal fatherland, the paradise, to rejoice with angels and triumph eternally, seeing Christ in splendour.👼✝✨English speakers may connect this tune to an Advent hymn however, but - Advent is just around the corner…!🕯And in the Swedish hymnbook this melody has numerous texts for different occasions. But let’s stick to the German original for now…!🇩🇪And as always - don’t forget to click the thumbs-up and subscribe!😃

As we are approaching the end of the liturgical year we start looking ahead to the last Sunday of the liturgical year, the Feast of Christ the King, Judgement Sunday, the Return of Christ, Eternity Sunday, etc.✝🧔♀👑This day has many different names, but they all revolve around the same topic - the so called "second coming", the return, of Christ and the new realm that he will rule.🫅(This theme then gradually morphs during Advent to his "first coming", that is his birth.) Here’s a German hymn on the theme, "The Day Is Surely Drawing Near", and while the text tells us of loud trumpets🎺, everything burning🔥, the dead awakening🧟♂, the last judgement🧑⚖ etc. (simply: the Doomsday!), Reger on the contrary sets this tune to sweet harmonies and soft nuances, a perfect display of the delicate tonal colours of the romantic organ!✨Hope you like this little gem, and as always - don’t forget to click the thumbs-up and subscribe!😃
Det här är en riktig favorit, både att spela och att höra. Mycket fint spelat!
Tack, visst är den fin!
Played solidly as the title suggests. Happy Sunday.
Last week I posted a Reger version of the majestic hymn "A mighty fortress is our God", and now I thought I would post Buxtehude’s wonderful version, quite different in style but no less joyful and triumphant!🏰I can’t seem to get enough of Buxtehude’s way of embellishing a melody with flourishes and cascades of notes! Let the trumpet blow!🎺Hope you like it, and as always, don’t forget to click the thumbs-up and subscribe!😃

Another composer that I didn't know and very beautiful musical writing.
In Sweden he's only known for a couple of songs, but he has written many (that's his most productive genre), and there's more than that...!
@@HenrikBergpianorganist Ok !
These first days of November is a time when we light candles for beloved ones that passed away, and we think about the afterlife…🕯 On All Saints’ Day, or All Souls’ Day, depending on where you live.🌍Long-time followers will have heard some of Nordqvist’s lovely songs, but here are two organ chorales by him (he was a church musician) that are perfect for this time of the year.🍂The first one is actually the third verse of an old communion hymn, but this verse doesn’t focus so much on the communion: "O you, my noble treasure, source of life, stay with me and I will be blessed. My death will be my life - help me, o Jesus Christ". I chose to play it with stops having a secretive shimmer, just like the gleam of a hidden treasure…✨The second one is very associated with All Saints’ Day in Sweden: "In Heaven, in Heaven, where God himself lives, how wonderful will be the bliss, how endless! There, face to face, I will see God eternally!"👼If you have been watching my videos with Vogler’s Preludes lately, you will have seen the old 1783 organ that sits right above the instrument I’m playing on here, on a separate organ loft. This however is a 1935 Åkerman & Lund organ hidden behind thin bars behind the player, with no traditional façade, an unusual solution to keep the old organ shining in its own glory.🌟Now as always - don’t forget to click the thumbs-up and subscribe!😃
Just today I this piece at the beginning of the church service. I like your recording, nice organ. ❤
How nice! Thanks for listening!
Very beautiful chorale with grandiose pedal part.
Indeed grandiose!
Midweek Bonus! Today, the 31st of October, happens to be Reformation Day in Germany and other countries (however not in Sweden, where it falls on Sexagesima Sunday), commemorating the Protestant break from Catholicism.⛪One very popular hymn for the day in question is Ein’ feste Burg ist unser Gott/A mighty fortress is our God/Vår Gud är oss en väldig borg, so here it is in a pompous setting Reger, unique in his Op. 135a in that the hymn tune is played by the feet throughout.🏰Typical of Reger however, are the colourful harmonies and the build-up to a powerful fortissimo ate the end!💥Hope you it, and as always - don’t forget to click the thumbs-up and subscribe!😃
Thanks for another fine addition to the series!
