The song is typical of the Netherlands. It is in Dutch, a music genre, the music video features mills and stunning Dutch landscapes. Eurovision is an emotional affair for Joost. As a child, he watched it together with his parents. "Parents, one day I'm going to be on Eurovision stage" and he made it. Unfortunately, his parents died when he was a child. This song is dedicated to his late father. That's why it's called EUROPAPA. The part in the song “I'm in Germany, but I'm so alone. I'm in Italy, but I still feel the pain, etc.", I feel it's directed at his parents... Joost loved his parents and still does. His lyrics are mostly very deep, but the melody is happy, danceable and the clips of his song are presented in a fun way. I'm so proud of him.
@@YourCacnea When you pay attention to the visuals and lyrics in the video, in almost every scene you can see/hear the duality of his pain under all the happiness which tears him apart. At the hardcore/gabber drop he lets it all go, the last 20 seconds is the final hommage to his parents to tell them he is getting ready for a new chapter of his live.
This is a really good explanation (I'm Dutch). The many associations in the lyrics make it difficult to translate it (even for me, and I'm a translator) and I feel you explained it well. Joost lost both his parents when he was 13 years old and this song - "Eurodad" - shows very well how loss feels and to walk around with all that grief.
@@lwgg742 Thank you. I've been listening to Joost for a while now, so I assumed what his song would be about. Honestly, I have to translate every song of his because I don't understand Dutch or German at all and I'm thinking about his lyrics. He is an interesting and very creative artist.
You can travel around Europe without borders but you can’t run from the grief of losing a parent. “I’m in Germany but I’m so alone, I’m in Italy but it still hurts”. It’s a sad song in disguise, it’s great 🇳🇱
There is also the reference to papaoutai. This song is also about a boy (also the performer) who lost his father when he was young. It is a well written song.
Also the last instrumental part was done by Paul Elstak, the bald guy in the car in the end. One of the pioneers/creators of the happy hardcore genre back in the 90's. He's a legend
The part at the end is because he promised his dad he would be on the stage of Eurovision one day, but a few years later his dad died. So that’s why the part at the end is so sad
Heyhey! Dutchie here with some info/translation for who wants it 😊 The ending is indeed part of the song, the song isn’t just a reference to hardstyle and gabber (which has true Dutch roots) but in an interview Joost said that the song is also in honor to his father who passed. What he says roughly translates to ‘At the end of the day we’re all just people, my father used to tell me it’s a world without grenzen (grenzen, means borders but it also translates to limitations). I miss you everyday is what I quietly whisper, see dad? In the end I always listened’ referring to the advice he gave him. He always told his parents who both passed he wanted to go to Eurovision and now he made it, taking after his fathers advice not to feel limited since the world is beyond limitation if you’re willing to work hard for it.
Joost is a master in his lyrics and confusing people (in a good way). This song is both a tribute to his parents that passed away, as well as to the Europe he loves for its diversity, quirkiness and freedom. I believe that every European citizen can (or should) relate to this, especially in these times where the world seems to be on fire.
I think Joost here means the second, but I would be lying if I'd say our joint-European diversity came from all of us staying just within our borders. The last few years, we have been focusing more on differences and closing borders than to share our common European background and heritage.
Parkzicht was such a legendary place! So many good hardcore DJs from Italy as well such as Mad Dog, The Stunned Guys or Unexist to name a few (although they're not happy hardcore)
For me, this is the winner of Eurovision 2024. This song is a masterpiece. The meaning and message is beautiful. Europapa is Eurodad. An ode to his dad. Wjrn he was 12 years old, his dad passed away with cancer. A year later his mother also passed away. There are no borders, no limit was the message of his father, go and explore the Europe and the world. The fire in the song means he will let go of the pain of not having his parents and start a new chapter in his life. 12 points for The Netherlands. 🎉
The mid song Papaoutai reference is a clue, that song is also about the personal loss of Stromae's father. The song is actually very clever. Greeting from Amsterdam!
This song is a tribute to his father / Parents who passed away. Europa in Dutch means Europe. Pa or Papa means dad. His dad once told him the world has no “Grenzen” which could be translated to both borders (Borders are a man made concept) or limitations (Many people create their own limitations in their own mind). This life lesson inspired him to have keep having an open view on the world and live his life to the fullest without putting limitations on himself. After his parents died he carried a lot of pain with him. No matter where on earth he was (Germany, Italy), whatever food he would eat (Escargots in France, Fish and chips in UK, Paella in Spain), he still carries this pain with him. In the end nobody but himself could deal with this pain and he himself must find peace with his losses. Only going through the grief and finding inner peace would put a end to this suffering. This song tells the story of him as an orphan trying to do exactly that. Him creating this song was a huge part of this process. The line with Stromae / papaoute (which Translates to: Dad where are you), is followed with the words about how he wants his parents to be proud of him. He used to watch Eurovision with his parents and told them one day he would be there performing. Which is what he now did.

I think it also fits the theme United by Music. It’s very interesting and different. I really liked it. Also, my father passed in 2019, so it touches my heart that he dedicated this to his father.
In an interview he mentioned his dad telling him that people invented the borders, therefore he (Joost) can invent the world. It explains why he connects the concept of Europe (a lot of countries with seemingly random borders, that are their own world both united and separately) to his dad
Joost lost both parents around 2012; first his dad then his mom I believe. Joost has stated that it is too much to bear to carry memories further. That's why he made it a tribute... daddy... europapa....

As a professional jazzphotographer I like only “real/good music. Joost his music is “not my cup of tea” but after seeing this video on Dutch television by Lubach, he changed for me as a Dutch Idiot to a international hero. Yes this song is related to his dad and parents and at the end the happy song changed in a sad ending instead a happy ending. That ending of the burning wood-house makes it to a winning song, because he is not allowed to make a political statement, indirectly without words he is showing the world that Europe is on fire. The war between Russia and Ukraine and the war in Israel and Hamas is a fact not mentioned but every human good working brain can make his own conclusion. Thanks Joost from the Netherlands to be important. Showing yourself in another world and “performing “ out of your comfort zone you can be successful, happy and stimulating others. EuroPAPA, Papa means Dad in Dutch, it’s an ode to his dad (and mom), who died when he was so young (12 when he lost his dad and 13 when he lost his mom). So in the end he tells something his dad always used to tell him and the song means he listened to his dad and he made it❤
"It is an ode to my parents," explains Klein, who lost first his father and then his mother within a year when he was 12. ,,Europapa is a poem to them, that's how I write things off. Soulful music doesn't have to be soulful. I refer in the lyrics to Papaoutai by Stromae. How many people dance to that? While asking: daddy, where are you? Get it?"So his father said borders are man-made that's why he goes all over Europe too.
At the same time, the ending next to the interpretation of the personal story of the singer, the ending also felt like commentary against all the polarisation we are dealing with since (and during) the pandemic. In Europe but also worldwide.
he once told when he was a small kid once im there and when he was 12 his dad died and when he was 13 his mom died so now hes very proud hes going to eurovisie
I love how this video got so many views in comparison to your other eurovision react video's, we Dutch people just love watching people from other countries react to Dutch stuff
As a Dutch person, don't worry I also didn't catch on to the deeper meaning of it during my first listen! But if you pay close attention and listen a few times you can notice the tinge of a bitter taste. His music is surprisingly deep for the fun vibe it has. For people who don’t speak Dutch this song is really hard to understand, but he travels in the song across Europe, because his father told him there are NO borders anymore. This song is as Dutch as it possible can be with hakken and one of our popular DJ’s. Also it’s a personal storyline of Joost himself. After the death of his father and mother losing himself and searching for answers he already had. Listening to his father: there are no borders in your life, just live it!
When he was 12 both his parents died and euro pa pa and papa means dad so its a reminder of its dad and in the song he song he said het is een wereld zonder grenzen which means its a world without borders and his dad Said That to him and he listenend to it
well do you now understand why he song, He is in italy but still feels the pain. The whole song, happy as it may sound is a tribute to his late father. The entire song is filled with hidden meanings and tributes.

No it's quite a jump if you didn't know his background before you listen to the song. The burning of the photo and the house is a learned coping mechanism of "letting go" when he got help from a psychologist. He lost his parents at a young age.. His mother first and his father later.. This song is a way to honor and remember his parents but especially his father. They used to watch the Eurovisie Songfestival together and he told his dad he wanted to be on that stage later in life... And now he will be!
Joost Klein droom groot! 🇪🇺🇳🇱
Gabber naar euro visie !!!!
and again
most viewed video on this youtube channel in 1day only.
joost klein is smashing it boosting every one views with a fire song there is no way he gonna lose this with so much hype
Its not 2000's its 90's . the hardcore gabber and Happy hardcore era ( Piano happy hardcore) Thats why DJ Paul is also in the clip
DJ Paul Elstak actually made the background music
@@natteharry391 its produced by Tantu Beats. And Paul dit the small part after the drop( Welkom in Europa jonguh). Also according to his own words.. so in all fairness its more of a featuring . But smart business man as he is, he has himself credited as producer of the (whole) song , together with Tantu beats. Wich in a way is true ofc because he IS one of the producers...
Joost Klein dedicated this song to his father, who died when he was 12 years old due to cancer. His dad taught him that the world has no actual boundaries. His mother died a year later, when he was 13, due to cardiac arrest. Before his dad passed, Joost was already writing all kinds of stuff and promised one day he was going to go to Eurovision. He has gone through so many challenges in life, and it is a true inspiration to see how he deals with them.
This song is both a European banger and a tribute and memoir to his dad."
I LOVE our Dutch entry this year. And I'm from 1972 and my favorite music eras are the 70s and the 80s. But I do really like this song. He totally moved me in the end, after having a party before that moment😊
Great review! Thank you! 🎉
Welkom in Europa jongu (welcome in Europe man) , thats a wink to a popular duth movie. Then the script zooms in to a girl wearing the ukrain colors... goosebumps
I think it also fits the theme United by Music. It’s very interesting and different. I really liked it. Also, my father passed in 2019, so it touches my heart that he dedicated this to his father.
Ciao 🇮🇹great reaction grazie from 🇩🇰
EVERYONE who listens to this song, at the end: "Whoa... why did I just get chills?!?"
Europa is on fire. Norms and values( molen, huis, boerderij)
I an in Nederland 28 years. Nederland 12 points with my 💖
.👏👏👏👏👏
When he was twelf first his dad died from sickness and a year later died his mom so i respect him. Twelf points to the NETHERLANDS!!!
I only just got it .... I think. It's 'Europe - dad'. In Dutch that's 'Europa - pa'. A place for people and a place without borders...
Dear people from all over the world, give Joost Klein from the Netherlands 12 points, this will do him good to make his deceased parents proud who are watching from heaven!
he also mentions the artist stromae with the song papaoutai. in french "papaoutai" means "where are you dad?"
Happy hardcore gold from the Netherlands this year. Dont overthink it, better yet, empty the brain completely for a couple of minutes. Go absolutely nutts and enjoy everything. Letsgoooo Europe!!
This song grows on me every time I listen to it
I got chills aswell. his mum and dad died when he was young. his father always said the world has no borders.. and we are all human
Isnt this the guy who won Eurovision 2024?🎉🎉🎉❤❤
Life is worth living!
The Netherlands…………twelve points 💙🇳🇱💙🇳🇱💙🇪🇺💙🇪🇺💙🏳️🌈💙☮️☯️
Dutchie here! True lovely letter in this song! In a 90´s happy hcore
This song is about his father that died when he was twelve thats why he chose 12 points in the song.
I havent had a song i truly liked this year, but this is it!
Amsterdam 2025!
The tracksuits the people are wearing when it get heavy towards the end are in the colors of countries that are in war
His dad used to tell him to think without borders. That's what the song is about.
Ik zeg 12 points for The Netherlands ❤❤❤
At the same time, the ending next to the interpretation of the personal story of the singer, the ending also felt like commentary against all the polarisation we are dealing with since (and during) the pandemic. In Europe but also worldwide.
Great review! Thank you! 😍
It's more like 90's. Eurodance and happy hardcore. Little bit early 00's. I Love the homage to his mom and dad.
12 points for The Netherlands, Love it. lets party 🎉🎉😢
he once told when he was a small kid once im there and when he was 12 his dad died and when he was 13 his mom died so now hes very proud hes going to eurovisie
and papa means dad and he gives hints to his dad in his lyrics
Yesssss!!! 🎉❤❤❤
Great reaction dude 🎉🎉🎉😊
12 points go to, Netherlands!
What a vibe!
I love how this video got so many views in comparison to your other eurovision react video's, we Dutch people just love watching people from other countries react to Dutch stuff
That’s kinda crazy isn’t it?💀💗🙏🏻
❤️🤍💙 whoop whoop 🎉 prachtig nummer 🇳🇱 Welcome to Holland - Europapa 😎❤️🔥
As a Dutch person, don't worry I also didn't catch on to the deeper meaning of it during my first listen! But if you pay close attention and listen a few times you can notice the tinge of a bitter taste. His music is surprisingly deep for the fun vibe it has. But yeah, I do hope the translation will be on-screen for non-dutch speaking people cause the lyrics add so much
It's not early 2000, it's mid 90s happy hardcore ;-)
Its europop with an happy hardcore vibe. Only the last bit is is happy hardcore. And tbh even that is to soft to really be hardcore
@@Melvinovitschlast bit is dutch gabber!
Aldus Paul zelf .
His parents died when he was 12, father of cancer, mother of a cardiac arrest, and he had been making youtube video's when he was 10. he started making music for fun, and now he made it to Eurovision. his dad told him it was a world without borders and he could do everything he wanted, and now he said that he has listened to his dad because he is in Eurovision.
I see an italian guy reaction to hardstyle... and the sad ending... this joost gives the best reaction vids.
WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGH. Fuckkkkk bringing back happy hardcore and gabber, I havent been more excited for any Eurovision song ever. And have you seen the views on the video? It's absolutely going crazy, already like 1,3 million views?? This is literally going to be it. It already is.. after 5 hours of release, what?????
Joost is brilliant
vibe: "Europa, papa! we made it!"
Nice to see your surprise every style change in the song.
Papa gets repeated a lot. Hits hard when you get to the end.
Papa meads dad in Dutch
Weet ik;)
Happy Hardcore ! It’s the 90’s 🤩🤩 CLASSIC !
Something i haven't seen people mention that is really easy for dutch people to notice, but can definetly be missed when you're not a dutch speaker, is that "papa" or "pa" means Dad. It's literally him going "europa-dad, or euro-dad".
Anyways will always cry at the end i've heard it 5 times already... :p
You do realise that papa means the same in more languages and that it sounds like this to everyone right? And in English it's called 'Europe' and not 'Europa'.
@@dennisengelen2517 In dutch it's called europa. The song is mainly in dutch. it's by a dutch artist. Yes, I know that papa means the same in more languages. I don't care that it's called europe in english. get over yourself m8
Your reaction on this song made me laugh so much! Loved it! Good luck with your channel!!
Thank u so much hahahaha
For people who don’t speak Dutch this song is really hard to understand, but he travels in the song across Europe, because his father told him there are NO borders anymore. ( it’s not a joke, this song is real deep ).
And another funny thing about the clip, almost every person in the clip is a famous artist in the Netherlands.
Paul Elstak, Stien, Donny, René Froger, and many more.
Europa & Europapa, the song is for his father, and died on cancer when he is twelve years old and one year later he's Mom dies on a heart attack.
GOOOOO JOOST!!! WATCH THE LIVE VERSION!!
Is there one???💀💀💀

the song gives me Little Big style and im lovin it
I will totally vote for this 🇳🇱❤️🇩🇪
Within a year Joost lost his Dad & Mum when he was very young 🥲. Joost is my Hero! 💙💙💙
The sounds are early 2000's and some sounds 2010's But new, you know what i mean? And the beat when the people dancing crazy was called happy hardcore and was very popular in the 90's. The dance was called Hakken and the group was calling themselfs Gabbers. O yeah and the godfather of hardcore "DJ Paul ELsak" helpt with the (happy) hardcore beat. He is even in the car (in the clip), the bald guy in the car.
Joost Klein lost his father when he was only 12 and a year later his mother died. Song tribute to his parents, and a message to his father i have done it dad. He prommised his dad that he would be performing at the eurovision.
12 point to the Netherlands!!!!!!❤❤
His dad passed away when he was 12 and his mom passed away when he was 13 and that's because the song names Europapa, because 'papa' means father
This song is as Dutch as it possible can be with hakken and one of our popular DJ’s. Also it’s a personal storyline of Joost himself. After the death of his father and mother losing himself and searching for answers he already had. Listening to his father: there are no borders in your life, just live it!
Joost is an icon
#12pointstotheNetherlands!
When he was 12 both his parents died and euro pa pa and papa means dad so its a reminder of its dad and in the song he song he said het is een wereld zonder grenzen which means its a world without borders and his dad Said That to him and he listenend to it
welkom in europa jonge🤟
well do you now understand why he song, He is in italy but still feels the pain. The whole song, happy as it may sound is a tribute to his late father. The entire song is filled with hidden meanings and tributes.
I hope Joost is gonna win the Eurovision contest with this song
I heard a Dutch journalist on the radio one hour ago. She said about this song: "my children are singing this all day, it makes me crazy!!" (then she laughed).
