Love to see you guys reacting to this. The underlying story is pretty sad, he lost both his parents before he turned 13 and had promised his dad he'd be in Eurovision someday. So this is him completing the promise. And he didn't change his style or vibe for anyone.
Ive never heard or seen about this guy without this being mentioned. Also by himself all the time. In the Netherlands we call that “je ellende uitventen” something like selling out your own missery in english
@@TheDutchWWEfan no, it represents that no matter where he goes, he will never be able to escape the loss of his parents. While in Italy and Germany far away from everything that happened he still feels the pain and loneliness.
the story behind the song is harder than most people think. When Joost was little he always watched the Eurovision Song Contest with his parents. Once when they were watching he said "one day I'm going to stand there too" and he did. Unfortunately his parents won't be there because when he was 12 his father died and a year later his mother also died. In the lyrics he also calls the song "papaoutai" (daddy where are you). Explanation of the ending part. Joost's father told Joost when he was very young. That borders are made by people. And that they don't really exist. He says he misses his father and tells his father that he listened to him. It is happy music but hard lyrics.
You can travel freely in a Europe w/o borders but the pain of the loss of loved ones travels with you. Follow your dreams and make the ones you love proud. Carry the memories with you but also their lessons. Joost is no joke he is a survivor right through the pain to party on the eurovision stage.

As a Belgian i am schoked to see you drink la chouffe in a glass of delirium tremens.... we call that a sin LOL. But impressed with the glass collection in the back (the kwak glass is very hard to get). The event is in may 7 and 9 are the semi finals and 11 is the grand final. By the way ask your inlaws for a better translation then the youtube one. There are so many different levels to view the lyrics in dutch. You have to be fluent to understand them all and the references he makes. It is a catchy song so even if you don't understand everything it is nice, but when you understand it completly it is a masterpiece. I hope my country will give him 12points.
Dutch and Belgian (or Flemish?) audiences always give each other's entries a lot of points because we somewhat have the same taste in music of course. But this year the jury is from Wallonia and I definitely don't see them giving any points to a song in Dutch 😬
Yeah as a Dutch person who loves all Belgian beers I noticed pretty early their entire arsenal of Belgian beers & glasses. Didn't know they're sold so much in the US, unless Casey's wife brings a lot of it with her back to the US haha
Eurovision doesn't generally get super famous artist, since it can either be a career maker or killer. In recent years some artist became really big because it. Tik tok really helps in that, since a lot of Eurovision can be really meme-able.
My country sends a big artist this year though. So this is false. And as I understand it even Joost is famous there. As is Olly, As are Gate, the Ukrainian singers and many more
Like you did read in all reactions; he lost his parents at young age; so he didn't just give a shout-out to Stromae. 'Papaoutai' means: 'Dad, where are you?'

But even more amazing in that year is several songs ending in the same ball park, then a forty point gap and then the song "Eimear Quinn - The Voice". Fun reaction to Joost Klein, ngl we are pretty excited about our entry to the Eurovision this year. This song is pretty out there but way too much fun. Very dutch with the hardstyle and EDM influences. And including some icons like New Kids and DJ Paul Elstak. Anyway, enjoy your Songfestival and enjoy those (Belgian) La Chouffe beers!
It is a true work of art, it is filled with so many hidden gems that go unnoticed, especially for those who aren't Dutch. But in short, Papa is daddy in Dutch, and all the musical transitions go from the old-school house, dance, and EDM to Gabber and New Kids "Hey Jonguh", the Red Bull outfit a.m.m. (the referrals are obvious imho but I'm Dutch). It is a work of art! And I'm proud of him. But I think the backstory is so important to really understand it that might be the only downside, perhaps he will have something up his sleeve?! Perhaps he will have an English version for the EVSC?! Can't wait to see it live on stage at the EVSC :)
Remember, ppl worldwide can vote as well, since a few yrs ago! Its online. I believe its only in the finals and not in semifinals, but I might be wrong
his song is a tribute to his father / Parents who passed away. Europa in Dutch means Europe. Pa or Papa means dad. His dad once told him the world has no “Grenzen” which could be translated to both borders (Borders are a man made concept) or limitations (Many people create their own limitations in their own mind). This life lesson inspired him to have keep having an open view on the world and live his life to the fullest without putting limitations on himself. After his parents died he carried a lot of pain with him. No matter where on earth he was (Germany, Italy), whatever food he would eat (Escargots in France, Fish and chips in UK, Paella in Spain), he still carries this pain with him. In the end nobody but himself could deal with this pain and he himself must find peace with his losses. Only going through the grief and finding inner peace would put a end to this suffering. This song tells the story of him as an orphan trying to do exactly that. Him creating this song was a huge part of this process. The line with Stromae / papaoute (which Translates to: Dad where are you), is followed with the words about how he wants his parents to be proud of him. He used to watch Eurovision with his parents and told them one day he would be there performing. Which is what he now did. The burning at the end is his way of (trying to) say goodbye to the burning pain of loosing his parents. Joost said about this: "Sometimes you have to let go of the things that are most precious to you. Where one door closes, many opportunities present itself. Mum and Dad, you will always be there for me, but I can't carry this pain forever."
Love it that you are drinking Belgian beer! but in Belgium it is a crime to drink from another glass that doesn't belong to the beer. Almost every good Ale/Beer has its own Glass to get the right flavour of that specific beer!
papa means dad in Dutch. Europapa is dedicated to his dad which passed away due to cancer. He was just a little kid 12 years old. His mom died a year later due to a cardiac arrest. Writing songs is like a therapy to dedicate songs mostly to his parents. His father give him the mindset that there are no borders. Borders are just invented by people so dare to think without limits. why don't you invent your own world. If you want to know more about Joost Klein you should give Florida 2009 a shot and Wachtmuziek. Both are in Dutch but there are lyrics for you can translate in English. It gives a better understanding who he is.
Joost Klein dedicated this song to his father, who died when he was 12 years old due to cancer. His dad taught him that the world has no actual boundaries. His mother died a year later, when he was 13, due to cardiac arrest. Before his dad passed, Joost was already writing all kinds of stuff and promised one day he was going to go to Eurovision. He has gone through so many challenges in life, and it is a true inspiration to see how he deals with them.
wereld zonder grenzen actually means world without limits/borders, its a small thing lost in translation but it subtly changes the big meaning of the subtext, thought you should know!

totally off topic, but guys I must applaud you for your choice of beer! Drinking Delerium, next to two bottles of Chouffe and a whole closet full of special glasses in the background. First time watching any of your videos and 10 seconds in you already got my thumbs up!
the lyrics is so fucking strong. I am in germany bit I am alone, I am in italy but still it hurts, papaoutai means dad where are you. he traveled europe but not with his parents as they died when he was only 13. and papa obviously means dad in dutch.
The Delerium glasses are awesome!!! I got them aswell and they might even be my favourite. The elephanttrunk as the stem of the glass is so original. Oh and very tasty beer too!!!
Guys react to a dutch song, drink Belgian beers with another Belgian beer brand of glass to boost... Lmfao, i mean i would have used heineken for this xDDDD
As a dutchy, I’m very proud that Joost incorporated a lot of Dutch things in his song. But the best I found the “Happy Hardcore” music that is born in The Netherlands 🇳🇱💪💪💪💪
At first, I didn't grasp the profound meaning, but upon closer inspection, the song reveals a deeper understanding. Clues within the lyrics suggest that the song is a tribute to the artist's parents, particularly his father. The phrase "Euro papa" carries significant weight, signifying a promise the artist made to his father before his passing - a commitment to one day grace the stage of the European Song Festival.
It's not Kinderdijk, I live there nearby. Can't confirm if this is near his place of birth in Friesland, but its definitely not Kinderdijk. Your pronunciation of Joost was exceptionally good though! No English native speaker seems to get that right directly!!
pronounce name as : yoast.. I never was much into techno etc (too old for that perhaps and basically hard rock/prog rock when I grw up) and certainly never thought Gabber (5:50 inw, pretty much Dutch cultural hard core) would catch me like it did!! Apart from that I think it's so carefully crafted production wise! Bloody catchy tune, make it a European anthem. Then the lyrics, has so many layers and more meaning than meets the eye. In other comments much will be explained I noticed. On the surface it sounds so happy but hidden deep inside is the pain and grief of loss (papa, well also mama) and the final scene could represent burning the pain in order to be able to carry on... many ways to look at it. I wonder how Joost (yoast) will bring all this across on stage. Perhaps he should have subtitles on backdrop screen.....

Very dutch with the hardstyle and EDM influences. And including some icons like New Kids and DJ Paul Elstak. Anyway, enjoy your Songfestival and enjoy those (Belgian) La Chouffe beers!
i never expected you guys to react to this lmaooo
fr 💀
Can't wait to see it live on stage at the EVSC :)
i'm so proud of my country!!!! twelve points to the netherlands!!!!!!
2 americans drinking belgian beers watching a dutch contester, nicee i like it
Gabber culture in the end love it
you need to know its partly produced by one of the biggest dutch hardcore dj paul elstak...and the guy that said welcome in europe was
2:20 those places are in a lot of places in the netherlands, it is just farmland
As a Belgian i like what i see in thé background
Mum and Dad, you will always be there for me, but I can't carry this pain forever."
finally the other way around.
i'm a dutch person watching american youtubers all the time so, welcome to our country americans ;)
Love it that you are drinking Belgian beer! but in Belgium it is a crime to drink from another glass that doesn't belong to the beer. Almost every good Ale/Beer has its own Glass to get the right flavour of that specific beer!
5:25 Thats a 100% Dutch dance ( Called " Hakkuh! ") to a 100% Dutch House genre. ( Hardcore/Gabber/ Happy Hardcore ) Party to the max ! 😁
Joost Klein has some crazy shows, you guys need to check his live show on youtube called Joost - live at Lowlands 2023
The semi-final is on Tuesday, May 7. The final is on May 11. Greetz from the Netherlands !
@beers & Bars. you are right! Kinderdijk it is.
papa means dad in Dutch.
Joost is from my hometown:) I'm more into blues/rock/metal stuff but hail hail '90s! Cheers Robin
He absolutely deserves to win this year!
Loool being form Amsterdam, I never tought you guys would React to this 😂
Haha my wife is Dutch, we were just eating dinner in Breda ✌️🍻
@@BeersBars oh wow love that!
wereld zonder grenzen actually means world without limits/borders, its a small thing lost in translation but it subtly changes the big meaning of the subtext, thought you should know!
What i love to see is that you guys got some great Belgian beers in your assortment 👀 Cheers & Greetings from Belgium!
its was shot near his old house in friesland, north of the Netherlands

La chouffe in a Delirium glass is crazzzyyy😂
Try "Ik wil je" from Joost Klein, it samples a famous belgian rock song
totally off topic, but guys I must applaud you for your choice of beer! Drinking Delerium, next to two bottles of Chouffe and a whole closet full of special glasses in the background. First time watching any of your videos and 10 seconds in you already got my thumbs up!
Welcome to the Buzz Fam ✌️🍻
the lyrics is so fucking strong. I am in germany bit I am alone, I am in italy but still it hurts, papaoutai means dad where are you. he traveled europe but not with his parents as they died when he was only 13. and papa obviously means dad in dutch.
Une petite Chouffe chef ! Good choice ! 👌
Great pronuctiation of his name 😮 spot on 👍🇳🇱🇺🇲
The Delerium glasses are awesome!!! I got them aswell and they might even be my favourite. The elephanttrunk as the stem of the glass is so original. Oh and very tasty beer too!!!
On the table where everyone's eating are the previous dutch candidates of the song festival
Guys react to a dutch song, drink Belgian beers with another Belgian beer brand of glass to boost... Lmfao, i mean i would have used heineken for this xDDDD
Happy hardcore euro dance vibe Nederland ❤❤❤❤
There's a cool song with him and MCR-T you would probably like called Buurman Uit Berlijn
As a dutchy, I’m very proud that Joost incorporated a lot of Dutch things in his song. But the best I found the “Happy Hardcore” music that is born in The Netherlands 🇳🇱💪💪💪💪
Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Sweden

Love ❤this song. 12 points for The Netherlands. Happy and sad at the same time. ❤
That is how ABBA broke through to world wide
Im from Nederlands and he says that he stays ai Europe until he die’s
Im meant at
At first, I didn't grasp the profound meaning, but upon closer inspection, the song reveals a deeper understanding. Clues within the lyrics suggest that the song is a tribute to the artist's parents, particularly his father. The phrase "Euro papa" carries significant weight, signifying a promise the artist made to his father before his passing - a commitment to one day grace the stage of the European Song Festival.
He lost both his parents in his early teens.
❤️LOVE IT GREETINGS FROM THE NETHERLANDS 😘🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱
It's not Kinderdijk, I live there nearby. Can't confirm if this is near his place of birth in Friesland, but its definitely not Kinderdijk. Your pronunciation of Joost was exceptionally good though! No English native speaker seems to get that right directly!!
This is no music. This is pure art !
Well the artist can be big and can also be from another country. Like they had Celine Dion and Flo Rida on Eurovision.
Exactly this.
6:52 The first semi-final will take place on May 7, the second on May 9 and the final will take place on May 11.
great to see americans getting into eurovision. we grew up watching this.
12 points for pronouncing his name right!!! Good video fun, and douce points for Joost
Maybe he wil end high in the list.... it's starting to grow on me.. hug from a stranger from the Netherlands ❤
12 points to the Netherlands. Greetings from the Netherlands Joost little Dream Big!
12 points for pronouncing a Dutch name the right way
This song reminds me very much of 90s Netherlands Happy Hardcore era
He made a song called: Joost Klein 2, and another song called: Meeuw. You should checkem out
listen to some of his old songs!
Mortel kombat they say: but They sad(1993) HARDCORE NEVER Dies
This was such a surprise. I watch you guys all the time and seeing you reacting to a dutch song was so weird
😂🍻
I didn’t watch Eurovision this year because of the boycott, but I love this song so much. It's so unfair how he was treated!
pronounce name as : yoast..
