Love your tears at the ending, I cry a bit every time I see it. Makes me so happy, makes me so sad, but sad out of love. Genius. We need this in Europe. Also for the European elections in June 2024..! Come together, right now, over me...
This is the best reaction to this song I've seen so far. You're well prepared; you know who Joost is, the story behind the song and you see details. Genuine reaction. Thank you!

You can travel freely in a Europe w/o borders but the pain of the loss of loved ones travels with you. Follow your dreams and make the ones you love proud. Carry the memories with you but also their lessons. Joost is no joke he is a survivor right through the pain to party on the eurovision stage.
Love from croatia 🇭🇷 i love this track and he really deserves to win . Its funny and personal i even cried at the end. And the happy hardcore made me even more happy . Go netherlands !!!!
He was not that big in NL, more in Germany, Swiss but now he is in NL to because the song is so genius and deep.....respect for the creative mindset of those that make this song. Who would think of to refer to stromae papaoutai what means Dad were are you......its so deep, respect!
It is a very clever song, multi layered... For one it is nostalgic for the 90s scene and music (Gabber!). But underneath it has a longing for his dead parents. Father died when he was 12, mother at 13. So quite a sad part of his live. So when he sings about pain in his live, it is connected to this fact. He loved to watch ESF with his parents.
Please never excuse yourself for crying...! It is the opposite of laughing, and noone ever says: sorry I laugh! Next to that thank you for your positive comments... I totally agree
This is really the 90th with happy hardcore and gabberpop; my beautiful childhood and how special it is that Joost, who was born in 1997, brings this style back into our lives. What an artist and a performer.🙏 Truly the best of the Netherlands ever. This song is with happiness and sadness combined, that releases all kinds of different feelings in a human body.Terrific beat, terrific feelings, thank you Joost.🙏🙏🙏 This is what music is about. If this isn't going to win, than I don't know it anymore and we'd better abolish the entire Eurovision Song Contest. Love this, love Joost, with love and 12 points.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉😊😊
Im so, so curious about his live peformance. If he's able to peform live and goes into the crowd. I think he's able to win. He'll end up in the top 10. But can only be number 1 if his live peformance is as crazy as hus normal live shows. There for i've nevet ever seen a europe artist go into the crowd or even start
Little bit of background on Joost. He was creative from a very young age and also a bit different. His father said that there are no boundaries and he should follow his dreams. They always watched the Eurovision Songfestival together so as a kid he replied that his dream would be to go to the Eurovision Songfestival. Then his dad passed away when he was 12 and his mother when he was 13. For inspiration and acceptance of the loss of his parents he travelled trough Europe. Therefore he sings that the pain and emptiness stayed with him no matter where he went. He paid for mental help but it did not work for him. Still he managed to be a very positive and joyful person as reflected in this song. He sings about the song Papaoutai from Stromae that is also about missing his father. In all of this he managed to combine lot's of cultural aspects of different European countries and the Netherlands. There is even a Max Verstappen reference. Without the layer of his personal life you will notice that a lot of elements can directly be related to the European countries. The young boy and the old man represent him and his father struggling trough life and his father being an example for him. The windmill is near where he spend his youth so also a trip trough memory lane to him. The final emotional scene represents him as a kid and his father when it all ended, the burning of the family photo and the building represents that you need to move on in life and not be stuck in the past. In the end he tells that he listened to his father (there are no borders for your dreams) and refers to him going to the Eurovision Songfestival. So winning would be optional, his goal was participation. It is a bit similar to the style of Little Big, a band that never participated and still has the most views on the Eurovision channel by a landslide.
This is fabulous, I gave up on the UVSC 3 years ago but Joost makes me want to watch it again. This work of art has it all, it makes you laugh, it makes you wanna move to the groove, and it is a great message, so many typical Dutch referrals / hidden gems, it gives me Chickenskin (Goosebumps) and it made me cry. I have found out how great Joost is because of this piece of art, I did not even know about him before he was on the Avondshow with Arjen Lubach not so long ago. My initial 1st impression was ""what a nutter"", but that soon changed finding out his backstory and hearing this art for the 1st time. Now I am backtracing his artwork and am amazed at how great of an artist he actually is, and me being no spring chicken anymore at 58 and counting he achieved to impress me, and I'm not easily impressed. Joost is a revelation, wow!! Joost lost his dad to cancer when he was a teenager +/- 13 years old, and his mother died from a heart attack a year later. ""Those who laugh the brightest most always have the heaviest loads they carry around, where ever they travel that backpack of experiences is always there, they can't escape from that, be as free a spirit as you can be, respect your elders, don't waste your time, and an ode to his dad credo""borders are stupid"", and Ubuntu(*)"" This sums up Europapa (papa is Dutch for Daddy) for me, it is true Art and a masterpiece by Joost (Joast) Klein (kline). Are you from near Rotterdam? I can't place your accent. Ik ben Iers en ik vind de Nederlandse taal ontzettend mooi, vooral in dit nummer. De zin "en toch doet het pijn" doet iets met mij.
information joost klein : song is Ode to father The song is an ode to Joost's father. In the song Joost tells the listener that there are no limits if you want to make your dreams come true and tell your story. He also says this about it. Europapa is about an orphan who travels across Europe (and beyond) to find himself and tell his story. At first people don't recognize him, but he takes every chance he gets to show himself. Europapa is a tribute to my father. When he raised me, he passed on to me an expansive view of the world. He also wants to say something about his act. The Eurovision Song Contest performance will be an experience in which everything turns from sadness to elation. When people see my act, their first reaction should be, "What's going on here?"' but only to find that they are moved. An invitation to dive deeper. At first glance it seems like a very happy act, but behind it lies blood, sweat and tears
As a 90's teen this brings a lot of emotions back to an amazing time, especially for northern europe.
