I see the Tin Foil Hat Brigade is out in force. Some people need to learn that not everything has a hidden agenda. Not everything is political! I swear, some people could even find propaganda in a boiling pot of soup... Twist it around however you'd like...the song is a VIBE! There are so many more IMPORTANT things people could and should be concerned with. You can type until you have carpal tunnel in both wrists...hashtags and Tweets and Instagram posts are not going to remedy the things you dislike about the world. If they were, we'd all be living a worry-free and sustainable life by now. Just Sayin...
Amen my friend. The biggest public Tin Foil we have from The Netherlands actually lives in Spain. He complain on his platform but doesnt realise he`s a europapa himself.
Don't bother. There are always people who are against everything. Ignore it. I go for Joost and his good vibes. ❤ Keep up the good work and the nederl
ands love you. Doei 🤗
As for the tinfoil; they are anti evrything. It's their relaxed status (and proof we fcked up on healthcare, lol). Don't worry about it. Not even worth your energy and heartfelt emotion. That is what they want; the only ones having a hidden agenda is that lot, wanting to destroy evrything good that our generation tries to do. Don't give them that platform. Not even worth it. It was about aliens they would be all about anti fcking aliens. Like I said; It's their relaxed status. If you dont like those comments just ajust who can reply et voila. Rainbows, unicorns and happy algorythm overlords.
Although the song is a happy song it's subliminal message is everything but joyful for the Dutch people.
Aren't you even suprissed you got almost 5K likes on this video while you ordinary don't have more then a hundred?
Yeah well you and a few other know reviewers got targetted by pro EU trolls that got no clue what is about to happen in the next few years. Like WW3 and the death of a entire generation against Russia, yeah 'we will die in Europa' for Europe like the song says for sure. You got used in the media over here as a EU propaganda tool and you don't even know it. The burning of the house at the end and the windmill that is symbolic for the Netherlands is what is about to happen and the end of the Dutch identity. It is completly the opposite of your phrase, 'Be proud of where you came from' because our culture and heritage is about to get erased and we are about to loose our Dutch identity and become European digital citizens, decentralisation of power only means less power to the ordinary citizen. The day the song was announced, the eIDAS law was passed in Brussels, which will become our European digital identity, needed for everything in society and online and will mean exclusion for those who don't obey to their terms. Like getting a mandatory injection on a frequent basis. And the Chinese social credit system.
F.Y.I. You will also get a digital ID in the US soon.
The death of his father symbolizes the death of his homeland and everything you like about the Dutch people is about to get erased. One third of our civilians are already foreign refugees.
Europe will now be our Papa / father , Europapa.
This is not a song that represents the Dutch people, it represents the EU.
If you wonder why someone like Davina Michelle haven't represented the Netherlands at this Eurovision contest, she knows about the political agenda behind this fake contest and she doesn't want to be a influencer but an artist.
Joost Klein dedicated this song to his father, who died when he was 12 years old due to cancer. His dad taught him that the world has no actual boundaries. His mother died a year later, when he was 13, due to cardiac arrest. Before his dad passed, Joost was already writing all kinds of stuff and promised one day he was going to go to Eurovision. He has gone through so many challenges in life, and it is a true inspiration to see how he deals with them.
❤

It took 30 years, but finally we have some Gabber music in Eurovision
Yesss! 🎉
Its not gabber, this crap is what ruined the gabber scene.
@@phixphixation7261 It does remind me a bit of "daar is gabbertje met zijn kale kop" which did mark the end of gabber.
@@Ozymandias1 Exactly!
How in the world is paul elstak nog gabber... He is one of the founding fathers of gabber... He worked on this song.. Maybe.. Just maybe.. You are ruining gabber. Respect the greats.
The burning house is him burning his grief. This is his great ode to his parents and now he can be proud and move on…letting go some of his grief. The way he packed this emotional story in a happy hardcore song is pure genius. Not everybody will like this style, but you must have some respect for his talents.
Amazing video, proud Dutch Gabber over here🤣🇳🇱❤️
😘👌
Hij is verrassend goed!!!
Its giving papaoutai
its also a reference to the wars going on atm and euro burning in all the protests and stuff, its really clever
Belgian 90's Goth here... It's not my musical dada, but this is brilliant...!! The song is brilliant, the clip is brilliant and then, at the end, Joost gets you by surprise... This is an Artist... and it is very good advice to believe in what an artist does... (maybe some old Goths will know the pun here at the end... ;-)
YESSSS. I'm so proud of Joost, who would've thought they would hear gabber/happy hardcore on Eurovision
Gabber/happy hardcore light mainstream.
As a old time gabber this is awsome ! Dutch culture

As an fellow 90 ties gabber, I pretty much despise this EU propaganda. Love The Netherlands & Europe but despise the EU.
@@afcansf5996 same.. but we got a hardgenre in the eurovision so thats at least a little positive note 😂

You can travel Europe w/o borders but you cannot run from the pain of the loss of your parents (he lost both of em in his early early teens)
This song is so uplifting and somehow still manages to make me tear up. I love Joost
Just here to say Joost got disqualified..... heartbreaking, they took this mans dream away hours before realizing it. JESUIJOOST

oh ja. new kids.
geniaal gedaan
@@richardjohansson2648you mean New Kids lol. Tim Haars from New Kids co-wrote the song, that’s why he’s in the video. But indeed Paul Elstak (in the car) produced the happy hardcore break, which is also very ‘New Kids style’.
I've freaking seen this video over a hundred times now, and EVERY TIME I end up in tears... It's like he's able to make you the most happiest and nostalgic person in the world and uses that intensity to crush you at the end 3 times harder than it should. Damnnnnnnnn
Ohhh your an addict of this song also! I thought i was alone in watching it sooo many times now!😂😊🎉
Same here. I have only just noticed before they start driving over the tiny road (in Friesland) there is a little piece of pixelart gamestyle from way back also taking us back in time. A well crafted piece of art filmed in 4:3 ratio. Wij gaan winnen jonguh! 👍🏻
Man, the Florida 2009 performance at Lowlands absolutely destroys me.
THAT'S JOOST...❤

This is such a catchy earwurm. I am from the Netherlands and only the thought of whole Europe singing this and going "EUROPA JONGUH! " makes me piss my pants laughing. 😂
You also noticed DJ Paul in the video? He did the happy hardcore sausage over it and back then it was not even selected. I am glad this track made it to actually been selected!
@@proclaimed75 Offcourse I did. This video is so 90's. Did you notice the little piece with retrogaming pixelart and it is filmed in 4:3 ratio. This is well crafted art.

I have zero interest in eurovision, had never heard of Joost before this song, but this song is stuck in my head for days now. It is pure joy!

I see a lot of dutch people who are ashamed of this song, but as a Dutch person, I think this song is us.
We are happy hardcore 😁
A lot of dutch people ashamed for this song? No we are PROUD of Joost Klein 😉🥳
The people who are ashamed for this song should be ashamed for themselves.. 😮😅
GO for it Joost...!!❤
Die zich schamen zijn niet wijs. Establishment boomers zijn het.
No it's not "us". Just part of us, from the 90's. Ot was NEVER me. And WE are way more than this. I am not ashamed. Just not my cup of tea. I hope he does well. I'm just not feeling the contest anymore and haven't for many years....
@@elledevroede8794 my dad was ashamed too but then I told him that around 50% of the Eurovision viewers are under the age of 25 or 30. (Heard these numbers somewhere. It might be wrong). And then he changed his mind and said then it is a very good strategic choice. Bless him.
I'm Dutch and let me explain what kind of music style this is. This isn't hardstyle, this is called Happy Hardcore. It's a music (sub)genre from Hardcore created in 90's in the Netherlands. Hard, fast beats and in the early years it also had some rave vibes. For example checkout the song 'Party Animals - Have You Ever Been Mellow' a typical Happy Hardcore song from the 90's. The "Happy" part is the melodie what makes it 'Happy' Hardcore. There was a whole sub-culture back in the days called 'gabber' (what, means buddy) in the Netherlands.
We leven in Holland hé dus ook je moers taal prate hé!😮🇱🇺

But this year 2024…
I WISH I COULD BE IN THE AUDIENCE IN SWEDEN!!!
Lets go Joost🎉🥇🎶😍
❤
48 here look 2 time a half off Songfestival but this year sit from begin thil end Joost amazing ❤
Don't care if it is the winner of the contest or not. This is gone be a party on that stage!❤
And it helps that only 10 seconds in, people will be on their feet, it's that catchy.
I must laugh about the hype this song is creating.
My husband plays it every day. And i am kenyan learning dutch. If this is continue than i am able to sing this song too.😂😂😂
The song is typical of the Netherlands. It is in Dutch, a music genre, the music video features mills and stunning Dutch landscapes.
Eurovision is an emotional affair for Joost. As a child, he watched it together with his parents. "Parents, one day I'm going to be on Eurovision stage" and he did. Unfortunately, his parents died when he was a child. This song is dedicated to his late father. That's why it's called EUROPAPA. The part in the song “I'm in Germany, but I'm so alone. I'm in Italy, but I still feel the pain, etc.", I feel it's directed at his parents... Joost loved his parents and still does. His lyrics are mostly very deep, but the melody is happy, danceable and the clips of his song are presented in a fun way.
After Ducan Laurence, Joost Klein is our new nr 1 for The Netherlands 🇳🇱🥳🇪🇺, greetz from Amsterdam!!!
Hahaha, that's why this music style is called happy hardcore. Because it makes you happy!!! It was a big thing in Europe in the mig 90's, dominated by the Dutch and Germans, such as Paul Elstak, Charlie Lownoise and Mental Theo, 2 Brothers on the Fourth Floor, Nakatomi, Scooter, the Party Animals, Dune, and many others. The aforementioned all had huge hits in Europe, especially in North West Europe. Their music style led to a whole lifestyle, called 'gabber'. Joost Klein brings an homage to this music style and asked - among others - Paul Elstak to co-write this song.
For Dutch, German, Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Belgian and probably many others the music of this song immediately reminds them of the happy hardcore songs of the 90's.
oh i love happy hardcore, and someone still listens to or knows about it :)
The important part of the meaning(s) of this song has already been pointed out, but I wanna point out an extra detail.
As established, he dedicated this song to his father, who taught him that the world's borders are imaginary, which is especially true in Europe, since all we see of the borders is a sign: "You are now in [country]". But the wordplay he uses to this end is brilliant (imo):
Europa = Europe in Dutch
Papa = daddy in Dutch
-> Euro-papa (Europe + daddy)
He's kind of saying Dad, Europe's mine. Its really beautiful.
Do you even realize this is becoming your most watched reaction ever in the shortest time..Ever! Just a few days before his performance in the 2nd half finale and for sure the finale. No day ends with a view of this reaction, the emotions in this clip are overwhelming every time and you are spot on.
The performance from the Thursday night was so beautiful, and what a show.
Everybody was singing Europapa, and dancing.
Everybody was happy. It is so sad that he didn't head the chance to win Eurovision.
I am proud to be a Dutchy.
Imagine me having fun doing the dishes while listening to this entry, splashing water all over the place. And I'm a 67 year old Friesenjung🤣PS: the weight-lifting grandpa in the clip could be the twin brother I never knew I had. Fryslân Boppe!
C’est ça l’Europe et on est fiers ! Bravo à nos voisins néerlandais et vive l’Europe 🇪🇺 12 points de la France 🇫🇷😍🙌🏻🤩
Joost has just 2.5 hrs ago released his new song ""Luchtballon"""Its a real powefull typical Joost song, party fun and something to think about in the end. Translation not really needed for the end part is in English and oh my, it has a clear connection to his past and to what happened at the at the ESC. I'm so proud of him, in Joost I trust❤
I love that he added gabber music. That's true dutch culture right there.
gabber culture ❤ hakkuh!
True Dutch culture? Not for me.... LJ
love it or hate it it's factually dutch culture @@LunaJo67WDHTMJ
For me its also a song symbolising that we need to stay together and stay human in a time where what we took for granted is at the brink of breaking apart. Europa has never been so polarized. Just like Joost says at the and of the day were all human. Its (used to be) a world without borders. Wake up world and stick together. dont late hatred fill our hearts and unite! This song is about uniting people and makes me proud to be european.
I am Dutch and borders in Dutch (grenzen) can also mean Limitless. That's what he meant to say in this video, the world has no limits, so make the best of it (everything is possible).
Het is niet mn favoriete muziek maar ik vind dit een heerlijk liedjes en hoop dat het wint, allemaal ff los heerlijk
Never have I ever been so proud of the netherlands. This is such great guy and funny, and he is so hyped for eurovision. It was his dream as a kid and have been promoting his music for a whole year so he'll het picked for eurovision!!
Totally agree..!
I would love to be there in Malmö; what a party this will be with this song. Douze points for sure.
As a Dutchie I just came here to watch the react. But I just wanted to say that you seem like a really nice dude!!❤
Thanks!
12 points to the Netherlands 🇳🇱
I get the empression that at the least he already united flanders (dutch speaking part off Belgium) and the Netherlands while most off the time we have this (friendly) rivalry. When Joost expressed he wanted to go to eurovision the suport quickly spread from the Netherlands to flanders. Joost over the years has become quite popular in flanders and last friday or flemish radiostation played this song 5 times because people kept requesting it.
He's music typically isn't my thing but I still would love for him to win.
yes! go travellllllling again! you are welcom in my crib in amsterdam!
a wise man his father was. A world without borders also for unlimited possibilities..
Joost klein, droom groot!
It is indeed a very emotional song, from happy to sad. With his background, that he told his parents he wil sing on Eurovision, many years ago, before his parents die, nice to see he did it.
Also a lot of references to happy hardcore, gabbers, hakken, new kids turbo.
And dj Paul Elstak that helped him with this song ❤ (famous for hits in the 90s)
There are so many details, you have to watch it multiple times to see al details.
Paul Elstak is one of the producers and he is well known in Netherlands, 3:26 you see a cameo from Gerrie which is a character from New Kids Turbo, i suggest anyone watching it's so good and Paul produced the music for that movie aswell.
Paul Elstak is also inside of the car.
Belgium loves Joost Klein ❤ and Dj Paul Elstak. It’s a real flashback to the 90’s a brilliant mix of Eurodance and Happy Hardcore or like the Dutch say Gabber house. Joost did lost both of his parents at young age. Love the tribute Joost , thank you Joost. His music unit people and me and my oldest daughter enjoy his music and lyrics so much that we go together to see Joost and listen to his art . Thank you Joost deeply all respect to you. Belgium loves you very much because you are so pure. Big 12 points from us to you my friend.
The 90s I was at an age between 22 and 32 and Happy hardcore and Gabber were the thing in Dutch music in those days... Memory's enough by watching this song... It's Great...
Thats a masterpiece. I hope the Song win the Contest
The more i hear this song the better it sounds.
Masterpiece. Dj Paul and Joost. This is as dutch as it can be. Im from the Netherlands Born 1981. I was raised with this kind of Music.
For a second I felt like my sixteen year old self back in the nineties, without a care in the world. Thanks Joost!
Tldr; the guy in the car during the hardcore scene is dj Paul Elstak. Co-producer of the song and the legendary father of the happy hardcore scene.
This is a masterpiece!!! This is the winner of Eurovision Songcontest 2024, for me. No doubt.
Research: Europapa = Eurodad. 12 points for The Netherlands. An ode to his father who passed away when he was 12 years and his mother who passed away when he was 13 years. His father told him that there are no boundaries, no limits. Go, travel and discover Europe and the world. He promised his father that one day he will be singing at the Eurovision. They used to watch it together when he was a child. Now he made it, because he will be on stage this year.
Everywhere he travelled he carried the pain and grief with him.
The fire simbolise letting go of the pain of no having his parents and the start of a new chapter in his life.
This song is a tribute to his father / Parents who passed away. Europa in Dutch means Europe. Pa or Papa means dad. His dad once told him the world has no “Grenzen” which could be translated to both borders (Borders are a man made concept) or limitations (Many people create their own limitations in their own mind). This life lesson inspired him to have keep having an open view on the world and live his life to the fullest without putting limitations on himself.
After his parents died he carried a lot of pain with him. No matter where on earth he was (Germany, Italy), whatever food he would eat (Escargots in France, Fish and chips in UK, Paella in Spain), he still carries this pain with him. In the end nobody but himself could deal with this pain and he himself must find peace with his losses. Only going through the grief and finding inner peace would put a end to this suffering. This song tells the story of him as an orphan trying to do exactly that.
Him creating this song was a huge part of this process. The line with Stromae / papaoute (which Translates to: Dad where are you), is followed with the words about how he wants his parents to be proud of him. He used to watch Eurovision with his parents and told them one day he would be there performing. Which is what he now did.
I also think he meant "grenzen" as without limitations.
I agree. This is not a promotion video for the EU. It has a deeper meaning.
This is really the 90th with happy hardcore and gabberpop; my beautiful childhood and how special it is that Joost, who was born in 1997, brings this style back into our lives.
What an artist and a performer.🙏 Truly the best of the Netherlands ever. This song is with happiness and sadness combined, that releases all kinds of different feelings in a human body.Terrific beat, terrific feelings, thank you Joost.🙏🙏🙏

This is an absolute baller of a song! Has to win
When it was announced Joost Klein would be our entry for Eurovision I admittedly was a bit skeptical. I am so pleasantly surprised, bringing me nostalgic feels of my teenage years in the 90’s. At first it might seem kinda superficial, but this song has so many layers, especially with the ending.
To me it says he was running all over Europe to avoid his pain but in the end it caught up with him and now he’s ready to let it go.
No wonder you feel happy. This is straight up a 90's happy hardcore track. Even Paul Elstak, one of the leading happy hardcore dj's is sitting in that car in the end. He did the music of the final part of the track.
All the react to movies don’t even know DJPaul Elstak is the driver in the hardcore dance part. He is the dutch hardcore legend.
Ye, he is such a legend that even Scooter mentioned him in "Hyper Hyper" 30 years ago. He was already that popular.
This is what we needed .... @europe

@@lucalombardi7957 I think every woman deserves to have a child if she wants. My wife is younger. And his big brother is 25. I intend to spend as much quality time as I can with my family.
But this song made me first remember my dad who passed away 2 years ago and then made me wonder about how old my youngest would/could be.. I regret nothing, I just will make some videos with fatherly advice just in case.
It does mean that I think this song is brilliantly multi layered
Even though I'm so happy that my tiny home country is participating in the ESC for the first time in 31 years, I gotta admit... this one takes the cake, no question. As someone from Luxembourg, how can I not love the celebration of the European vision? Joost celebrates everything that the EU strove out to be and I just love it. Pair that with the 90s Euro-Pop feel and the wholesome message, this has gotta be a winner.

The Eurovision Song Contest will be broadcast live via RUclips. Just like recently at the Grammys. This year it will be organized in Malmo, Sweden. Because last year Loreen won.
