SPOILER for quick recaps... ... ... Miltank: Can start out by fighting Rival 2, getting Stomp before facing Bayleef and easily beating it with the move, and then can go on to stomp Bugsy with the help of some crit luck against Scyther. PASS Tauros: Due to not being able to learn non-Normal attacking moves, it has to use Struggle against Rival 2's Gastly. The key is fighting Rival 2 before Bugsy, Struggling against Gastly and Zubat, after which it levels up and learns Horn Attack, which it can use against Bayleef to win with one crit. After that, Rage easily deals with Bugsy. STRUGGLE Gyarados: Thrash can get past Bugsy with some luck, but with no other moves, it has to Struggle against Rival 2's Gastly and the rest of the team, also with some luck. STRUGGLE Lapras: Sing can interrupt Scyther's Fury Cutter to beat Bugsy, but then Rival 2 requires keeping a few PP in moves to use Sing against Bayleef and then using Struggle against it, which it is just barely strong enough to finish the fight with. STRUGGLE Qwilfish: Minimize makes Bugsy easy, but Rival 2 is annoying as it only has Poison Sting works against Gastly. Setting up Minimize and then hoping for the best for misses, along with using Swift, does work. PASS Octillery: Needs a Fury Cutter miss from Scyther to beat Bugsy, and then accuracy-lowering with Mud-Slap can allow it to cheese past Rival 2's Bayleef. Definitely requires a lot of luck, but Octillery got that luck without too many attempts. PASS Eevee: Swift gives it more damage, which helps right away against the well Rockets. Sand-Attack allows it to prevent Fury Cutter from Scyther and beat Bugsy, and then Mud-Slap is needed to beat Rival 2's Gastly, and then Tail Whip and Swift can beat Bayleef. PASS Vaporeon: Same as Eevee overall, with some help from Tail Whip against Scyther. PASS Espeon: Same as Vaporeon. PASS Umbreon: Same as Vaporeon. PASS Porygon2: Psybeam can deal with Scyther with the help of a Fury Cutter miss, and Conversion2 makes Bayleef easy to deal with. PASS Porygon: See Porygon2 with some help from Agility. PASS Ursaring: Fury Swipes and high Attack easily takes care of both Bugsy and Rival 2, with Lick for Gastly. PASS Teddiursa: Bugsy's Scyther can be beaten with the AI sometimes using Quick Attack. Rival 2's Bayleef does require some luck with AI move choice as well, but it can get through. PASS Sneasel: Bugsy can be beaten with Swift and some luck. Mud-Slap deals with Rival 2's Gastly and Quilava well enough. PASS Piloswine: Powder Snow does good damage against Bugsy's Scyther, making that easy enough. Mud-Slap once again works against Rival 2's Gastly and Quilava. PASS Delibird: Requires insane Present luck to beat either Bugsy's Scyther or Rival 2's Quilava, moreso than is feasible. FAIL Magcargo: Ember and Rock Throw absolutely destroy Bugsy, but then Rival 2's Croconaw absolutely destroys the Fire/Rock-type without excessive Mud-Slap luck. FAIL Final Results: PASS: 13 STRUGGLE: 3 FAIL: 2 Bonus: Flareon w/Flail: Hitting low HP allows Flail to dispatch Bugsy and Rival 2 without too much difficulty. PASS
That was a genius strategy for the Tauros! Well done. It might be obvious for someone who has played this section of the game now dozens of times, but it's still very impressive
Yeah, after playing enough Pokemon, you get used to exactly where different level-up groups can gain a level and thus get a new move. It's a rare case, but worked nicely. We'll need to watch out for similar opportunities in later sections.
I'm honestly surprised Struggle worked as well as it did here. But those mons had better come up with a way to hit ghosts fast because that's not going to play with Morty.
Didn’t get to say this last week but welcome back! Happy to see my favorite Poketuber back on the front lines. (also not sure if Tauros needed to start his winning fight with Struggle, he possibly could’ve acquired it naturally with better sleep luck vs Gastly. Maybe I’m just being too optimistic tho)
I tested going into the Rival 2 fight and just using up PP on Gastly. The problem was Tauros has too much PP, and ends up getting KOed by Gastly's Struggle before it can reliably use up its PP. If playing from the start of the game, it might be possible to manipulate the PP perfectly for the Gastly, but that will be something for a future challenge.
never really noticed before or am just forgetting. Gyarados is one phew Pokemon that can learn fire blast. yer make sense because its basically is dragon Pokemon at this point.... but thought of water Pokemon having fire move is weird < that's something i do not think we cant deny lol
Again so soon, I can't wait to see this batch! Perfect timing too, I was looking for something to occupy myself with while I prep for apartment inspection :3 I'll be optimistic too. I think 15 will get through, and I think it'll be due to the Rival. I think Sneasel only gets through if its faster than the rival, Magcargo I think will get taken out by croconaw, and I think Delibird's luck runs out against quilava. Honestly I'm a bit iffy about eevee and teddiursa, but I also just don't remember what thier movesets are. So I'll assume they learn mudslap or something for the ghastly and will be fine with that normal STAB for the rest. EDIT: Hey, I was close! :D
ITake me down to the Mud Slap City, Where the Diglett dig, and the ground's all gritty, Oh, won't you please take me hoooome, yeah, yeah! Take me down to the Mud Slap City, Where the Sandshrew roll, and the fights get gritty, Oh, won't you please take me hoooome!
Question about Piloswine. Why does the rival not have Totodile for Piloswine? Pilo is weak to all 3 starters, but Totodile is the only one that isn't weak to Piloswine's STABs.
We may look into that if we run into a serious wall. My logic was that Sleep luck could basically bypass the need for Growl. However, we haven't used Mist in battle yet, so it could be a move that I forget if it doesn't seem useful.
Honestly i'm not a fan of categorizing struggle mons separately or avoiding using TM's or whatever, imo if a mon can get past then that's a win and it doesnt matter how it got there and shouldnt be penalized for it
The logic for separating struggle mons is that they have to use their moves in battle against wild Pokemon, so they are technically no longer on minimum battles, but on minimum experience. Avoiding TMs where possible, on the other hand, is about maintaining flexibility later in the challenge - There is no move relearner in Gen 2, so if we had to forget the TM for some reason we could never get it back. So it's better to avoid using them unless needed so we have more flexibility later on.
@@GSCPokemonChallenges Oh thats actually a very valid reasoning i hadnt thought of, that even if you're not gaining EXP, you're engaging in an optional battle to gain access to struggle. okay you've totally changed my mind then
my predictions lord helix and lord dome both will faill to the bayleaf, houndour will fall to the crokanaw, Phanpy will also go down to the bayleaf, everything else makes it though

Thank you for the awesome summary!
Just joined because I want to save a mon. Please give Flaileon a brother if you know what I mean. No Eeveelution left behind.
Done and done! Coming up first in the next episode!

This is the series I loon forward to most out of all my subscriptions, thank you.
Thank you so much! Comments like this are so motivating!!!!
"We have gotten all the Eeveelutions through this section"
cue Jolteon crying in Violet Gym
Jolteon got a Member pick to support him!

True. We need to see how the TMs in Goldenrod affect things, plus Dig and Rollout are coming in soon!

Stellar set of challenges! Finally almost caught up lol
ALWAYS looking forward to these !🎉

yer make sense because its basically is dragon Pokemon at this point....
but thought of water Pokemon having fire move is weird < that's something i do not think we cant deny lol
Tjhis is why it should have been a dragon-type. It have a moveset very similar to Dragonite.

Overall, really solid predictions!
Awesome Tauros! without the extra pp Tauros doesn't even need to stall on wilds, it'll run out of pp first if you make sure spite hits tackle.
Yeah, if it was maped out from the start of the run, I think we could manipulate the PP to make it work without Wild Pokemon.
Helix: Fail (Dies to Rival)
Dome: Pass (50%)
Old Amber: Pass (75%)
Fat Boi: Pass with Mud-Slap or Struggle (100%)
Legendary Birds: Pass (100%)
Skarmory: Pass with Mud-Slap (66%)
Houndour/Doom: Pass (75/100%)
Mantine: Pass (66%)
Phanpy: Fail (Dies to Rival)
Donphan: Pass (80%)
Stantler: Pass (100%)
Legendary Doggos: Pass (100%)
Total: 15 pass, 2 fail
Sounds reasonable. Let's see!
Its here!
I forgot that struggle can hit ghost type mons in gen 2, I thought that was fixed in gen 3 tbh, need to update my predictions list now!
Yeah, it was introduced in Gen2, likely because so many Pokemon would not be able to beat the Gastly on the Rival's Team otherwise.
Mud Slap City, baby
ITake me down to the Mud Slap City,
Where the Diglett dig, and the ground's all gritty,
Oh, won't you please take me hoooome, yeah, yeah!
Take me down to the Mud Slap City,
Where the Sandshrew roll, and the fights get gritty,
Oh, won't you please take me hoooome!
Vaporeon is the point at which half of all Kanto mons beat Bugsy & Rival 2
Delibird was so cool looking in Gen 2 wish he was way better 😞😞
Yeah, it's stats are so middling, but it is a cool Pokemon!
Question about Piloswine. Why does the rival not have Totodile for Piloswine? Pilo is weak to all 3 starters, but Totodile is the only one that isn't weak to Piloswine's STABs.
You're getting ahead of me! We'll look at this in episode 11.
Wait wouldn't crockanaw be harder for Piloswine?
I was thinking the same thing. Wait for the last episode, we will be testing that
Who would thought that so many Pokémon would fail to get past Bugsy on Min Battles run
Yeah, we're down around 50% including the Struggle Pokemon.
Very nice video
someone needs go back try save jolteon
Jolteon has been picked up by a new channel member, TheKakeKing! We'll see it in the next episode.
How are you going to do return because you could max out happiness right away
This is discussed in Episode 1 of Whitney, which I have finished recording.
ohh this list challengers tough one today i will say 4 will fail .
i was torn between 3 and 4 tho depending on their move set could be more then 4 :)
Movesets make such a big impact on these challenges.
Raikou, Entei, and Suicune are technically cats. Kinda worried about Tyranitar and Celebi.
the legendary kitties! Let's go!!!
Lapras should have growl for the 3rd gym
We may look into that if we run into a serious wall. My logic was that Sleep luck could basically bypass the need for Growl. However, we haven't used Mist in battle yet, so it could be a move that I forget if it doesn't seem useful.
Comments are good for picking the helix fossil
Lord Helix will be very interesting....
Abigail Mission
Not sure I understand...

Likewise
@Salnax today is a good day!
Legends, the both of you!
my predictions
lord helix and lord dome both will faill to the bayleaf, houndour will fall to the crokanaw, Phanpy will also go down to the bayleaf, everything else makes it though
We shall see. I finished everything except the Legendaries last night.
