  • While Terraria does not lack diversity one bit, bringing back something a little old and forgotten would not hurt! Even though the throwing class exists in earlier versions of the game - it's now gone leaving a huge hole in our hearts. I'm sure Timmy is not a fan of this change... Enjoy! :)

      Nah, it should stay like that cuz melee weapons need at least something that are long enough to hit enemies from afar, why? Because Hardmode is more difficult when your just swinging a powerful sword, while enemies can just fire a million projectiles at you

    as much as i want throwing class back. I don't want a lunar pillar spawn in the middle of the world

      If they really wanted to they could do it like thorium and make it spawn from other pillars, but to be fair that might be a bit too weird for non-modded terraria.

    Ranger: Shoots Ranged projectiles
    Magic: Uses magic to kill things
    Summon: Summons minions to help you
    Melee: Swings swords to magically summon ranged projectiles

      Melee really is the farthest thing from the very definition of "melee" lmao
      The Wall of Text has awoken!
      Either way, i'd be up for a melee overhaul, the parry and counterattack mechanic from the brand of inferno could be expanded upon and given to all of the swords and potentially even the spears. Maybe even charge-up attacks for some weapons, and unleashing the attack can vary from anime-esque slash maneuvers to beyblading midair, and even simple lunges, skewering or overhead swings could do the trick! Pogo-jumping on top of enemies by swinging your weapon at them from below you like in hollow and/or shovel knight would also be great, and projectiles shot from some melee weapons could use a rework as well to make them much more unique than a simple sword beam, though tbh some weapons can be excempted from this like the enchanted sword as this is kinda their main gimmick lol
      ...And i might be getting a bit too carried away here but maaaybe hammers and axes could take a rework as well, their attack style differentiated from both swords and spears. Perhaps synergizing with each other so you could use them in tandem. :p

    See, throwing as a ranger sub-class for ranger makes sense
    However, I’m disappointed that there aren’t more weapons, and that there isn’t a shroomite helmet for it
    It would make SO much sense

      @@vinayakcs7292 Angler already has "Timmy" on his name list, but if they will make the thrower class real then it would be better if there will be a vendor NPC who will always be named "Timmy" and who will sell thrower stuff (Like how arms dealer sells ranger stuff) and possibly wear a miner set with a bucket for a helmet.

    I really hoped they would develop Throwing and was quite said when I heard that it would get merged with Ranged, I always wanted throwing to sort of get an Alchemist "Subclass", which is based on using potions and gases to damage its enemies and uses the Alchemy Table for crafting it's stuff, the aesthetic of it could also be really amazing, sadly they didn't add it however.
    Edit: Oh also and they should add better shurikens, I liked how they are used feeling wise and with physics and having stuff like Silver/Tunsten, Gold/Platinum, Jester, Bone or Hell Shurikens would be pretty cool pre-hardmode and in Hardmode Ichor Shurikens and Holy Shurikens would be amazing.

    I've had an idea for how to rework the throwing class for years.
    A way to make it especially fun would be to shift the bonus effects of the armor....Instead of % chance to not use ammo. its % chance to throw an additional projectile.
    Armor sets themselves can have bonuses that add more into the mess. like the ninja armor throwing an additional mini-shuriken every second. with accessories buffing out throw range and speed.
    Resource management would be a bigger pain, but the perk would be turning your character into a shotgun. and it would feel totally different from other classes.
    [Though maybe give them a hardmode freebie like an infinite knife pouch, like the quiver and musket pouch, just to make it fair.]

      @@suckonfatman6027 Yeah but not everyone likes the non vanilla esque direction that Calamity takes. Thorium apparently got a decent sized update, so the mod that has a vanilla like throwing class getting an update recently sounds great!

    Idea for a throwing class pillar: the black hole pillar. Every enemy is nightmarish, and the black hole fragments can be used to craft black hole grenades and black hole javelins. The javelins have lifesteal while the grenades deal a lot of damage. The set bonus for black hole armor is that thrown weapons are way faster and are unaffected by gravity.

      I mean, that's the opposite from what I have seen in the modding community. But if anything, it doesn't make sense it's a class. You aren't actually doing any work yourself in the fight, your minions are, and they don't die, and aren't affected by most debuffs, and the only one of two (possibly 3) draw backs was removed in 1.4 they became buffed like non-melee melee. Overrated class imo. Should just do damage based on the summon, or class-less, or other debuffs/nerfs to make the summoner do more than summon the minions while running away and the one time whip thing. I hate mage and ranger abuse of running while hiding the trigger, but atleast they have a eventual cool down where they can't fire and must focus on damaging or just running and doing NO damage. Summoner basically ignores most, If not all of these draw backs, having minimal ones that can be worked around if you play them right.

    I feel like what happened was that they were just giving the summoner class so much attention in 1.4, they realized how much could have been asked of them to make even another class viable. So they thought it would be cleaner just to call the four big terraria classes done and not have to worry about throwing being the awkward side class that summoner used to be

      However unlike summoner throwing sounds like it would have been really easy to make viable, there are plenty of weapons in the game stretching as far as the pillars that just make so much more sense for throwing, add headpieces for hardmode armors like they did for summoner and just like that the class is viable at least until mid hardmode and they only had to add a few headpieces

    Yes, my thoughts are exactly the same. Thrower should be a class and some of melee weapons should be moved to thrower. Melee NEEDS a rework so it should be melee, not magically spawning projectiles from range. Armors for melee should add more defense or damage reduction to make sure it is viable coming close to enemies at higher difficulties.

    Just double the damage on all melee weapons that have projectiles and remove the projectiles themselves. Melee will be more about squeezing yourself in for a good couple blows than about spamming your weapon in the general direction of thr enemy

      that is essentially what Calamity does with True melee damage, and it works well, its the highest dps class in the game, especially if you time your hits with adrenaline. Can shred bosses that get close :D

      Or a boss that has a 10 tile insta kill radius because some kid really wanted to make a funny boss.

      melee could also use some like, bonus like, having doubled defense for some seconds so that it can hit the enemy more, or also a ability that makes us like, grapple onto a enemy or boss (especially the flying ones) without taking melee damage from them so we can hit them, also rework the melee class in the Wof - mechanical bosses cuz its where melee is at its worst, like add more easily obtainible swords or more flails

    Classes I wish were more of a thing is the thrower and healer.
    Thrower obviously got some things then just tossed aside but if I'm not mistaken the only item that heals teammates is the spectre armor hood and that barely does it.
    Ironically both are in Thorium

    Melee is good when it becomes manaless mage.

      Manaless mage also exists in tmodloader due to luiafk adding in a series of infinite mana accessories. The first one is obtainable as early as post goblins, but as a consequence, reduces your magic damage by 30% (meteor armor in 1.3 gives 21% magic damage, so you shouldn’t have that much of an issue). It can also be upgraded in post Skeletron, pre mechs, post mechs, post golem, and post moon lord.

    Wana learn the reason of why throwing class didn't get any updates and then deleted?
    Because a guy almost finished game with 1.3 thrower class.
    Thrower class is OP and that's why it's removed and didn't need any improvements

    It would be so easy to implement! The calamity mod already essentially made a new throwing class with the rogue.

      The mechanic is in the game already. Resprite already existing weapons and give them different damage. I don't think it's hard for an experienced team of developers.

    a class I want to see exist is the shapeshifter class, just think of this, being able to transform in a different place, you're high in the sky, your now a harpy! you're in hell, demon! you're in that fungi biome, you're now a truffle variant! they already did one for the wolf and merman. I want to see a whole class made to transform into involvement.

    A whole new class means a whole new pillar and because there would be an odd number of classes , then the pillar would be in the middle of the world. Where most people make their bases

      As for the bass thing, perhaps move the base? Or move the pillars higher up in the sky? Or handle it like the goblin army or blood moon when it happens at your base?

    I think it'd be cool if the Melee ranged projectiles used mana (or maybe some other resource) in order to use them.
    You'd still be able to use the melee weapon if said resource runs out, unlike magic weapons, but the projectile wouldn't be created.
    Maybe, if it does have its own separate resource, it would replenish faster if the character's at low health?
    Or maybe it'd work based on proximity to enemies, filling up faster the closer you got to stronger foes?
    Maybe even have it fill up more based on the damage you deal with the melee part of the weapon?
    idk I'm not a game designer, I'm just kinda throwing out ideas here.

    a 5th pillar would probably be so annoying, maybe if they added the option to pick two groups of pillars (the original four and new four classes)

    Ok so as a response to the idea of grenades being useful in hardmode, according to my own personal research, it's a 50/50 case, with the main thing dividing it's usefulness being differculty.
    In harder modes, grenades fall off due to just how much hp enemies have in hardmode, as while their utility is immense especially for raw rangers. The problem is without a immense amount of damage buffs through armor and potions, grenades fall off hard since an armored skeleton can tank like 7 in master mode, even with pallidum ranged Armor and a full menacing set and ranger emblem.
    Hardmode grenades are on my terraria wishlist but I still think that if the terraria devs wanted to add back throwing weapons, they can do a thing similar to shroomite armor where it's 50% ranger, but 50% spesific ranged weapon

    If they remove melee proyectiles then melee weapons should be much bigger or we should have damage reduction

      Or just really long spears or a lunge mechanic which moves the player towards the boss so the player can actually be in melee range(basically teleport hit, but it’s not really teleporting, just moving fast).

    Honestly throwing was more of a class than summoner pre-hardmode and in 1.3.5 it had more weapons than there was minions. The main problem I could see with making throwing a full class is the problem of boss loot + them dropping consumable weapons. Killing moon lord a bunch of times to get a 1 in 10 drop chance consumable weapon would be a pain to farm up (and pillar weapons for that matter) would be an absolute pisstake however this could be fixed by (like you mentioned) putting over a bunch of melee weapons like boomerangs (Also the knife weapons, scourge of the corrupter and Tbh Yoyos fit throwing better too) that should really be throwing and adding a few non consumable throwing weapons too to give it a mix.

      Just make it random which of the 5 pillars Show up and the one that doesnt... but then it should be cheaper to transform other pillar fragments into the one you want

    Yeah. Removing projectiles from melee weapons I NOT a good idea. I’m doing a melee play through and using yo-yos for a bit of range before you get the death sickle is so difficult

    Although at this point it would be unlikely for this to happen to Terraria, as they have said that 1.4 was the last major update, maybe it they do end up making a Terraria 2 they can improve upon it there!
