    Hi Mark,
Today I got my Laowa 25 mm f/0.95 and I am super delighted. Probably I'd not have done this step without your video review. I used to exclusively have Fuji lenses, maybe even a bit too many. I just sold 2 of them that I practically never used. I like macro photography and I was using the Nikon Z 105 mm micro lens. Great lens! Since I updated my Fuji X-T2 to the X-T5 I was looking for a macro lens. I just did not have the heart to put down the money for the 80 mm Fuji macro when I have my Nikon macro. Then I ran into the Laowa 65 mm 2x mag. lens that I bought. What a pearl! Somewhat unusual proportions but a beautiful lens. Manual focusing doesn't bother me. So going on this path I looked for other Laowa lenses and the 25 mm f/0.95 caught my attention. (For me the 33 is a bit tight plus the focusing ring is too wide and no aperture clicking.) So the 25 mm is perfect for me. It is just a simple beauty. I like fine mechanical pieces and the Laowa lenses qualify for it. Plus finally there is some color on the lenses instead of the boring only black.
As you said the lens is to be used at f/0.95 and focusing worked quite well for me. For the 65mm I use split image focus since the focus peaking on short distances is useless but for the 25 mm I use red peaking. Much easier. I noticed something interesting on the distance scale: it is way off. When muy subject was 3 m, it was in focus when the scale showed 10 m. When the subject was at 1 m, the scale showed 2 1/2-3 m. I' d expect some deviation but the scale seems to be off. Also, compared to the 65 mm: there the infinity mark has a bit of extra movement but it is useless since the focus goes off beyond the infinity mark. On the other hand, on the 25 mm lens the focus works beyond the infinity mark. A bit unusual...
I was wondering if you experienced something like this with the distance scale. Pls let me know if your time allows.
    Thanks again for the push.
    Regards,

I did not notice this, but I didn’t look for it either. I have experienced it on other lenses, from other suppliers. The lens was on loan to me, so I don’t have one to check out. I would reach out to lowa, they seem very good, I would like to think they would give you some insight.

Have you been able to compare the Laowa with Fuji 23 1.4? Is there a lot of difference between the two?

Speaking of UWA - Laowa also make a 9mm/2.8 for APS-C (vs Meike's 10). It's rectilinear and has gotten acclaim. Heck, if you absolutely positively want the widest wide for architecture they also make a Cine UWA that's 7.5mm at, I think, 0.5 kg.

Hi Mark: I really liked your review. (After watching a few others the mixed message really confused me whether it is worthwhile to buy it.) I watched your review 2 times and it cleared my mind in respect of those "negatives" mentioned about he lens are not really a deal breaker since you may never use the lens in that manner. Just a single example to highlight what I am saying. One of my trusted reviewers mentioned that starts on the sky look like birds flying away. So I have never had any plans to shoot stars. Another one showed a faraway night shot of a city with blossing lights and so on. One thing I learned from those reviews was that focusing at faraway subjects like stars, cityscapes might not be the strength of this lens. (I will confirm that after receiving my lens that I ordered after wacthing your review.) In your review you made several comments that resonated quite well with me since I am not a pixel peeper what has nothing to do with real art. Thanks for your great review.

Hi Mark: this is a follow up to my previous comments. The manual focusing of the 25 mm f/0.95 lens it is quite intriguing. (Nothing similar with the 65 mm macro lens.) First I read the manual and it states: With internal focusing "multiple sets of floating matched focusing can be achieved" . The English is a bit convulated but it appears to suggest that maybe multiple "focusing" points can occur...?? My experience appears to suggest that. After considerable testing I drew the following conclusions: 1. Depending from where you start your focusing the showing on the distance scale is different. If you start from infinity downwards it is acceptably accurate. Going from close focusing to infinity it pushes the distance scale higher such as 1 m shows as 2 m and 3 shows as infinity. So I learned I need to start from infinity downwards. 2. This is quite peculiar: if going from close up to infinity it shows 2 (two) focusing points: for 1 m is 1 m and 2 m and 3 m it is 3m and infinity. It is very wierd because it can affect the quality of sharpness. Coming down for infinity it does not happen. 3. The manual recomends to use low peak instead of strong peak focusing what helps with accuracy but it does not change the double focusing occurance. I never experienced this before. No big deal for me since I learned how to focus this lens but for casual shooters it may be confusing. I really love the lens and it is a beauty. Very sharp at 0.95. I am hoping that someone at Laowa reads these comments since your video had been posted by them. My best

What is the focus throw like? The 33mm from Laowa has a really long one that a lot of people complained about. Is this the same? (I really liked the precision of the 33mm tbh.)

Hi Mark, always love your informative videos. I am still in search of a great camera for video. I love the film look. I hate the digital oversharpened video look. I realize the film look is composed of many factors. Highlight rolloff, dynamic range, color science, and lens choice are some of the factors. Lighting, composition, and
storytelling are other factors too. But I am looking for a good camera as an establishing guideline. I am a hobbyist, I do not do paid work. High resolution is not so important to me, but a natural and organic look are very important. I have been looking into Fujifilm cameras, but I am a bit worried. Do you think they are too sharp because they do not have anti aliasing filters and their lenses are super sharp? Do you think a camera like the Fuji xt4 would be a good start? Any other recommendations? Thank you Mark and keep up the great work!

I would highly recommend fuji for you. Thats what UI shoot most of my YT videos on, with the sharpness setting, all the way down, it's a very organic image.

It is better to attach full-frame lens on crop-sensor camera than using crop-sensor lens attached on crop-sensor camera. Assuming that optic center lies exactly in the middle of the sensor, the center gathers to much light than edges (image circle). The image will be more lighter on crop-sensor than full-frame if crop-sensor has the same pixel size. It is the same if you attach a medium-format on full-frame camera and so on. The center of image circle has no distortion and more light gathers.

There are conflicting opinions about this. I previously thought FF glass on aps-c would take advantage of the lens’s sharpest area, but I’ve seen testing showing that image quality for some reason actually becomes worse.
