I don't have any of these camera systems, but I just can't stop watching this channel when there is an abundance of dry, sarcastic humor and occasional truth bombs slipped in amidst the content. Great stuff!
people, please remember, this is an APO design so I think it has a different target audience compared to the Mitakon. For a primary video guy, I personally think getting APO is pretty damn good at this price!
That is only passable sharp. If your subject occupies like 30-50% of the frame, it's okay. If it occupies only 10%, well it's just passable. When you crop quite a lot to get that 10% to 30%, it's soft
Damn. I was about to buy your art with the screw, but I couldn’t find the link down below. Instead, I purchased a 21 speed lavender mountain bike with a salamander orange seat, canary yellow tassels, and an artichoke green streamline helmet with a vanta black pair of sunglasses.
That Mitakon is a perfect lens that can keep up with the zeiss, and have a fair price for it. The Laowa thought, is too much creamy at 0.95, I wouldn't consider buying at all. One could say that it's more 'cinematic' skin because it's softer, but for that we have the voigtlander nokton 17.5mm f0.95 that is absolutely fantastic. The only bad thing on the voigt is that he's $800. So I would go for the mitakon without a doubt.
I've heard about slow autofocus, but slow manual focus is something new and advanced. Laowa is what makes Fuji for what you love it. Mitakon makes it look like Sony.
You're creating your own photography genre! And enjoying so much the "captions" that you put in it! Please include this always in your every content release..it's so rad!
I'm liking your style of video, adds a lot of suspense to the subject matter. I own the Laowa 100mm f2.8 APO, and can see the only thing the Laowa 33mm f0.95 going for it is the APO (almost zero chromatic aberration). Will stick with the Mitakon. Great comparison video
You nearly reached Tony Northrup Toneh! I was getting concerned..... I don't know that is a good thing or bad? The Laowa is softer in a good way! Thanks for the comparison. I did not find the link to that screw photo?
This is odd. Christopher Frost made a video comparing the three f/0.95s for Fujifilm. In his video, Laowa was the sharpest, had better contrast and less color fringins by a significant margin compared to the mitakon and 7artisans lenses. Makes me wonder why mitakon seems sharper here.
Mitakon is certainly better in all categories. Lighter, cheaper, better colors, better sharpness. Sorry Laowa it's a no brainer this time. The 2mm difference is hardly worth it.
Why do I love the humor and hate it at the same time? hahah, well done. I enjoyed this comparison more for your sarcasm than the lens v lens. Though, you did drop some good insight.
Laowa does feel a bit... i don't know, slight off focus--y in terms of sharpness. Like, it focused just a few mm off but that's the sharpest it can get. Also, the skin tone it produces seems to be on the yellower side. The Mitakon does look sharper, and the skin tone is more heading towards the magenta side. My basis for sharpness was the eye lashes.
I have both and I like both of them - they are have different characters. Regarding the drawing,I will say very generally this: Laowa is more "universal", Mitakon is more 'charismatic".
Your a funny guy for sure! Specially the part with the pretensious (presenting done photos) talk-jokes at the end! :-D Might both learn and laugh following this channel.
Outside, you found yourself lost in Tonehland, my friend 😉 The Laowa, while not as sharp, did have a skin smooting effect. That would be usable for close framing with blurred out backgrounds.
Yers the Mitakon is sharper and has more contrast... But in Laowa's case.. the lens appears less sharp because of less contrast. The Laowa feels more cinematic, with a longer throwdistance when focusing, I would primarly use it for video. Ultra high sharpness isn't everything. I actually prefer the gradual softness of the lens to the contrastier Mitakon which makes it seem like a Sony lens lol XD
Hi Man thanks for the kool video. I have a question, i own EOS r and i have Canon 35mm f1.8, am not happy with the bokeh with this lens, after seeing this video i want to buy Mitakon 35 f 0.95 also i saw videos' on Argus 33, 35, and 45mm. mostly i use lens for portraits with sharp subject and amazing bokeh which one do you recommend please? hope i am wasting money by buying another similar range lens? please through your thoughts? thanks!
Oh my gosh, I'm so stupid! Your "screw in the wall" reminded me of a srew I recently saw on the floor in my garage. It was laying there in a perfect angle, calm and balanced... as if it was there since ages, created to be in this place for all eternity... I knew I should have made a picture of it with the rule of thirds, then selling it as art! *bäm* ...never having to work again! 😆 But in all seriousness, nice review, thanks! I was wondering whether the argus could actually replace my Mitakon. And well... doesn't look like it. Although, here's the thing with these "alternative" manufacturers: they have a hell of a lot of variance in their manufacturing! In good samples they seem to produce physically impossible, optical wonders. In bad samples they are really not worth the "somewhat low" price anymore. Depending who you ask, the Argus is superior or inferiour to the Mitakon. Now imaginge a good Mitakon meets a bad Argus, or vice versa... Nah, these sort of lenses must be hand-picked and thoroughly tested when bought. That's a lot of effort! And since I don't have the time (or rather will) to do that, I'm gonna stick to the Mitakon for now. Oh and lastly: good point with the focus travel! The Leica style add-on ring with a finger groove for the Mitakon makes it blazingly fast to focus for street... but then: who does street with 0,95 ?!? The occasions where you need/want 0.95 (or anything below 2.0 for that matter) are mostly ones where you have the time to proper focus. So... meh, I'm on the fence with this as well. Good channel, good style, like it a lot. Gonna keep watching. Keep it up! 👍
mitakon is the second vesion.. I guess they learn from the 1st one... I got one and happy but thinking to try the argus, just need to find on amazon so I can return if not better than mitakon... The design just look so much more premium and the 270 degrees focus might be (or not) more accurate.
Hi can you tell me how this compares with the mitakon 35mm 0.95 I? there is nothing written on my mitakon to know if its hte first model or second. How do you tell?
As a Sony shooter even I can say Sharper is not always better, but I can really dig the look of this Laowa 33mm It seems to have a much more classic cine look compared to the super sharp lens. For film it might be a good pic. for Vlog the Viltrox would be a better choice.
The Laowa makes you look like you're ready to kick the bucket .... dead bodies look greener on their skin tones. Now I see why they did not want you to keep the lens. Great lens though for horror movie filming. Can you put ND filters on the square lens?
I want the screw on the wall I pay with monopoly money ok !? lol the mitakon very sharp :o you should try the 7artisans .. but the magic it's always there :)
The size of the sensor has zero to do with bokeh and background blur. Its is strictly a characteristic of the lens. Which means there is no equivalency of bokeh between full frame and apsc.
@@muffinberg7960 You can multiply any two numbers you want, but there should be a reason for doing so. The reason bokeh looks shallower on full frame is REALLY because you're using longer lenses.
@Kintaro Music and Art what you say doesn't make any sense. Circle of confusion is the thing that gives you your shallow depth-of-field. And that is calculated by focal distance / aperture. Bokeh on the other hand is effected from not only achieving a shallow depth-of-field but also focal distance as focal distance compresses the background to back the bokeh more creamy. Since i now layed all involved variables on to the table can you tell me what is a long lens and the reason why you think its not being used alongside with apsc cameras and finally how is it a affecting factor of achieving bokeh.

I HOPE THEY SEND A STEACK WITH IT ...LOL
.95 is actually perfect for when I want to isolate an eye lash on my pet cricket.
"...it's in the rule of 3rds, therefore it must be art."
A rule no one could disagree 😎
Mitakon wins in color, sharpness, size, and price.
So it sounds like the Laowa might be the better option. Or maybe an adapter Zeiss Sony lens for my Fuji if I want the budget option
7artisan win for price and weight. It's almost similar to mitakon but less sharp and more purple fringing
The colour has nothing to do with Argus. Disappointed. Laowa macro 100mm is a fantastic lens but this is garbage
Tokeh looked smoother on the Laowa, but the Mitakon is no slouch in that area either.
I don't have any of these camera systems, but I just can't stop watching this channel when there is an abundance of dry, sarcastic humor and occasional truth bombs slipped in amidst the content. Great stuff!

I've heard about slow autofocus, but slow manual focus is something new and advanced. Laowa is what makes Fuji for what you love it. Mitakon makes it look like Sony.
So, compared to the Mitakon, the Laowa is softer, heavier, greener, and more expensive. Otherwise, it's great.
The photo commentary was next level. And I don't know if I've heard that derivative of toneh before- "tonehature" - most educational video of my week.

That background music while showing the lenses. 😆 So cinematic. So brave!
Find the Mitakon better on focus and colors.
When I saw that plastic bag photograph i was expecting an "American beauty" analogy....

The Laowa is so heavy because it’s still used by the super soldiers as a dumbbell waiting for battles to begin again
