The Fuji lens also has the advantage of auto focus which has to be taken into account which might make up for the smaller maximum aperture but it depends on your style of shooting.
Recently picked up the laowa over the 33 and it's sharp in the center at f0.95 and you're right I don't care about the corner sharpness because I'm just using this lens on my family. Thanks for sharing 🙏☺️
Started with the Laowa. It was excellent and oozed character. Recently sold it and moved to the Fuji 33 and I’m pretty happy with the move. If anything just to have access to great autofocus. The Laowa felt like a video lens trapped in a photo lens body with it’s crazy long focus throw and robust build quality. It was just too cumbersome to use as a photo or video lens IMO. I would totally consider it if they release a rehoused cine version though. Or if they released a second photo version with a shorter focus throw.
I purchased the Laowa Argus 33mm last month and have no regrets, for Portrait this thing is insane! Hope you do more model shoots with Laowa outside to see some more comparisons :) Great video by the way :)
I have never seen a sharper lens than the fuji 33 1.4 I use this lens for almost everything and its amazing sometimes I feel the image is so sharp for my taste so I soft it a little bit.
I'm think both of these are to sharp and clinical for portraits (had xf 33/1.4 for couple of months). My dream lens is around this aperture and focal length but with rendering like xf 56/1.2 😅 That's why I'm hoping a lot, for new upcoming Voigtlander Nokton 35/0.9 for Fuji X
@@Iamtongue yeah, as soon I will find out that VL Nokton 35/0.9 rendering is as smooth, pleasing and with 3D pop, as VL Nokton 23/1.2 for Fuji, I will give it a try 😅 Same way, I'm seriously considering to switch my XF 23/1.4 LM WR, for VL Nokton 23/1.2, because I find rendering from new XF 23/1.4 too sharp, harsh and clinical for portraits. Images what comes from new XF 23/1.4 are somewhat "flat, digital, lifeless", like from any modern prime. Only I'm worry is manual focusing.. If I would be sure I can handle it, I would swich from new 23/1.4 to VL Nokton 23/1.2 in no time
I actually prefer the corners being blurry on all lenses. It saves me doing it in post when I add vignettes. I have the Laowa 100mm f2.8 macro and it's awesome in sharpness. Even sharper than my Canon L lenses. The only criticism is lack of AF. But in macro it's not an issue since you want to be in M 90% of the time. And if you can save lots of notes in your back burner then I'd go M all the way. The lack of IS sometimes hurts though when doing video
@@Iamtongue They are the best. They are APO lenses and are tac sharp. Zero CA and x2 magnification (apart from one which goes from 2.5 to 5x, but that lens in impractical IMO) I have the EF version of the 100mm because it has exposure control in camera with EXIF data. The rest of them, including RF versions are manual aperture, which I don't like. I was lucky and picked one up second hand in mint condition. It's even sharper than the Canon 100mm macro L lens. It also has zero flaring.
You seem quite biased towards the Fuji lens - kept going back to that corner, but the peg at the top is much sharper in the Laowa (7:50). At 3:45 you can see that the Laowa is not focused on the same spot, the edges of the yellow bag are much sharper than the Fuji, which might explain some of the softness on the "14x" text. And then at 12:30 the Laowa bokeh is noticeably more creamy and less busy than Fuji's but you completely ignore that saying "they look exactly the same". Was a great review otherwise!
Fuji just for the af. The lack of punchiness i think is the 33mm f1.4 pics were slightly overexposed. My photos from it were usually quite punchy. O.95 looks fun for sure. Probably prefer to get the laowa 25mm 0.95 over the 33 for me. :)
Both are good lenses and take fantastic photos as you have proved in your work. Unless you are trying to impress your pixel peeping friends either one is a good choice. Even high paying clients aren't going to notice the difference.
I like the xh2s more. the stacked sensor is just too good. Especially if you're running and gunning. the rolling shutter is apparent in the s5ii if you're planning to whip that thing around alot.
@@Iamtongue noooooo because of the color rendition, light transition and just pure quality! You cracked me up 🤣😂🤣😂 You got my office on your side 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Sharpens! Who cares about sharpness? Is the world sharp? Do our eye sight sharp? NO! Focus just care about focus, young cubs! Great video as usual young man, but sharpness is not that important, it has its minimum uses but Focus wins every time!

Exactly
Maybe you should compare sharpness at regular distance. Lenses behave differently with close up photos.
Good idea!

Ya! If you don’t need the AF and weather sealing I think the laowa is nice!

That was one of the negatives i had with the Laowa 33mm!

I agree man, sometimes I would have a diffusion filter on the 33mm for that reason
On Which fuji camera you are doing the test ? Xh2 or xh2s?
Thanks for doing this comparison!
My pleasure! Thanks for watching :D

I think I heard somewhere that APO lenses typically have greater contrast. 🤔 I like the side-by-side comparison video btw. 🙂
I vaguely remember reading that somewhere too! Thanks for the reminder! 🐿️🐿️

I’m curious with the laowa macro lenses… is it really good?

I'm using laowa 33mm and sigma 56mm for sessions, I am satisfied.
Sigma 56mm looks good!
Given that you've shot from exact the same place, I have a feeling that the Laowa is a few degrees wider than Fuji...

How’s it going with the LUMIX S5ii? Did it shoot this video?
yes i did!
Can you also compare Laowa 25 to Fuji 23?
As soon as I get my hands on a 23mm I’m game!
I like the Fuji better
Cuz it’s sharper….? 👀😅😂
