When I worked at RMS in Tucson in the purple buildings on Palo Verde, I was on the ERGM program. Extended Range Guided Munition... and ya'll canceled it. Is the N5 just a re-branded version of ERGM?
The rapid fire of the mk 45 would make the surface warfare variant extremely dangerous. I would venture that a few dozen of these rounds would result in mission kill even against large Destroyers. (This would be a great backup weapon if our missile battery's were empty and it would be damn near impossible to defend against.)
I seen these produced at Raytheon... And they are each handmade. Down to testing each Radome, in nothing but a glorified shipping container faraday cage.. They look like a big Flies eye made of gold.....So $50k is cheap. As they can be stored for years. Yet still function when needed...
No. That was a LRFP projectile with a 60 mile range which ended up costs 800 grand per round. So they cancelled it. Now they are trying to use guided 155/5 inch rounds which are much cheaper and give it a 30 mile range which would be useful for bombarding landing sites or costal fortifications
There is orka, precision guided ammunition, some Swedish ones and an Excalibur . Lethal. I am sure they're experimenting with this technology for howitzer . I think it should be looked I to for tank ammo.
Go Raytheon !!! Awesome !!
Very good work Cary on

Heavier warhead payload than the leonardo EGR...but leonardo provides more range 80km..excalibur only 40-50...
Interesting. How much ? And do you deliver ? I need a couple fast.
They need to make cheaper guided fuzes. Can't use many rounds when each costs 50 grand.
But you won't shoot thousands rounds to hit one target!

GPS won't work reliably in a near peer conflict
This is accurate to within 2m at 23 miles of range. It doesn't get much more accurate than that.
Approved For Public release it say .....well what shop will supply this system ...wall mart ????

Wasn't this type of round tried out earlier for the 5-inch gun which failed miserably?

i would think think n5 for mk-45 nave gun is a game changer w/ 3 times range "good bye fast boat attack"
+Jason Spears Yeah, now that the USN is getting the N5 all the anti American navies around the world might as well disband. :D
