Also, I know I'm being pedantic but when you say the Azimuth angle is when the turret or whatever else rotates "along the vertical axis", the correct term would be that it rotates AROUND the vertical axis. I know what you mean but thought it might be helpful for visually impaired viewers if they can picture the movement precisely.

Here's a secret. First TOS was named Buratino because of the projectiles, that have sharp cone like protrusions on top, which look like nose of Pinocchio, the fairytale wooden personage doll. In early USSR, one writer of books for kids( Aleksey Tolstoy), wrote a Russian version of Pinocchio, which he named that doll Buratino instead of Pinocchio. So the creators of TOS gave to the machine this name because of that resemblance. Here is the Russian movie " Buratino" in English Pretty cool movie of 1975, nice songs and music there ruclips.net/video/WRZKtgwOTLA/видео.html

Russia has captured around 28% of Ukraine as of last week, 20% of which was taken in the first 6 months yet in the last nearly 2 and a half years they've only captured 8% more and this delay is because of ONLY 1/500th of Natos Cold-War era equipment. If such minimalistic amounts of outdated equipment can cause Russia to be slowed to such a drastic degree and even cause them to threaten nuclear Armageddon, you should probably reevaluate how powerful you think Russia actually is. Not to mention they've also felt the need to take North Korean conscripts who's military doctrine still relies on WW2 and Korean War tactics and who haven't even seen war for the past 80 years. There's clearly something else going on if a "winning" country needs to employ such a weak and crippled florigen military force to fight with them

Quote - "The thermobaric weapon, also known as an aerosol bomb or fuel air explosive, is a two-stage munition.
The first-stage charge distributes an aerosol made up of very fine material - from a carbon-based fuel to tiny metal particles. A second charge ignites that cloud, creating a fireball, a huge shock wave, and a vacuum as it sucks up all surrounding oxygen.
The blast wave can last for significantly longer than a conventional explosive and is capable of vaporising human bodies."
Imagine being on the wrong side of an Orlan and a TOS-1 platoon.
A company of soldiers would resemble a smouldering campfire.

The "splash guard" is more meant to deflect or break up large sheets of ice that can ride up the front slope after the tank drives into partially frozen water holes. Those sheets of ice can injure or even kill a driver driving unbuttoned if he can't get his head down when a big sheet/slab of ice comes up the slope. I have seen this, happen on US M60 tanks which did not have "splash guards" (2 injuries , no deaths) . I doubt such guards would stop a big wave of just water/mud much at all. But nice to have for those dangerous ice slabs.

From old washing machines, you can only build a new washing machine, but to build a similar system, you need several dozen different factories. Russians are no better than West, but for state tasks Russians never made weapons out of garbage just look at their rockets, and not just military ones. In 2021 Russians set the world maximum speed record for delivery to ISS, in 3 hours Carl!!!(its 3rd record, because few years ago, they did it in 5 hours), to do this, you need the most advanced space technologies as possible, but this is still not enough for them, and having achieved utmost accuracy of their space electronics, they are developing plasma engines for spacecraft to fly quickly in near space.
For example, US spaceships Crew Dragon cannot fly such fast and accuracy. Crew Dragon takes 18 hours to reach ISS.

When the Americans and the British blew up the Nord stream along with the gas in the pipe there, no one in the West was talking about an environmental disaster, but there was an emission comparable to the output of all cars on the planet for several years, not to mention that volcanoes emit carbon dioxide several times more than human activity. So all this hysteria about greenhouse gases is just the hysteria of people who put money in their pockets to fight a non-existent threat.

That's a very interesting tactic! However, Ukraine has already been using drones with night vision capabilities, and in this year, they'll be having more autonomous drones with AI targeting systems. Your comment is the result of a failed attempt to write something intelligent. I don't remember exactly, but I think the rszo project for firing incendiary missiles was done by the commander of the NBC Protection Troops, it was his brainchild back in the early 1970s. Participants in the research and development developed a large number of different components and selected the most successful. Two dozen fire mixtures and four variants of the charge for their atomization and ignition reached the tests. In the mid-seventies, all these developments were tested, in which the most effective ones were identified. Initially, the TOS-1 was designed to fire only incendiary rockets. However, since the late sixties, the development of thermobaric fire mixtures capable of seriously improving the combat performance of the weapon was underway. In 1985, the research and development program with the code name “Ognivo” was launched, the purpose of which was to introduce the existing developments in the TOS-1 project. In 1988, two combat vehicles TOS-1 went to Afghanistan to test in the conditions of the real conflict.Particular results were shown by shells with thermobaric equipment. In mountainous terrain, their combat qualities were improved due to some characteristic factors. The greatest effect of its unguided rockets in thermobaric ammunition is achieved in mountainous conditions: due to the mutual superposition of air shock waves and their multiple reflection from the surrounding rocks, destruction of soil and rock rubble. The munition creates a cloud of explosive mixture and then detonates it, forcing all the oxygen in the cloud into this reaction. After the instantaneous detonation, the pressure rises sharply and then drops below atmospheric pressure by about 160 mm of mercury column. Thus even if the enemy survives the explosion, the pressure drop results in his guaranteed death from ruptured internal organs. 3 types of effects shock wave, thermal effects and pressure in the absence of oxygen. So yes, it's a thermobaric weapon, not a flamethrower.
