- The "JY prog" for Monday 18 February 1985 broadcast between 10.30 am and 1 pm.
In this extract he interviews SNP MP Gordon Wilson about his Cold Climate Allowance Bill and Peter Smith of teachers’ union AMMA about school kids supposedly having ‘chips with everything’.

The WONDERFUL Jim was not only a FANTASTIC singer, AND STAR! He was a GREAT radio presenter, but fired due to his age! He used to get around 8 to 9 MILLION LISTENERS EACH SHOW!!!!
And he was still in his prime because he lived a further 14 years after they fired him.
@@notused. Thanks for replying to me. As a proffessional entertainer, I recorded over 8 albums, and 3 double albums. When I went onto radio , a guy in the Midlands, managed bands, got my show on so many other radio stations. We had massive stars doing "Phone Ins" I had started as "THE PIRATE RADIO SHOW" Laser 558, Caroline, and Radio London, with hundreds of origional jingles, and I was told that I got, on the computed screen, that I had over 15 million worldwide. If you would like, free of charge, give me a contact address, and I will some to you. I am listening to Jim now, thanks to you. NIGHT NIGHT.
JY was never confrontational, yet always got the best answers from his guests. Intelligent broadcasting at its very best. We miss you Jim.
On of The Best his like will never be seen again what replaced him is an absolute Idiot
Terrific and very much missed.
I listened every day and it was the beginning of the end for me and the BBC when they fired him
I don't listen often to Radio 2since Sir Jimmy Young left its not the same
@@williamjamieson1029 I agree. 12-2 was a highlight every day when he was on.
He was replaced by Jeremy Vine who loves the the sound of his own voice and never seems to be off the air during the week,,,
An absolute idiot
The MASTER of Radio 2's heyday
RIP JIM you were a great broadcaster on radio 2 from 1973 miss you on radio 2 these days not the same
R.I.P Sir Jimmy.
Couldn't beat jy prog, full stop.
Old school English gent. Articulate, intelligent, and always polite and good humoured. BFN JY.
I agree, well said.
Good line up then, wogan next jy then David Jacobs followed by David Hamilton. I think the afternoon was finished with Ed Stewart, could be wrong this line up was probably 83/84 .
@@leesmith8366 He literally said thanks to Ken Bruce.
He's actually British.
LIFE ALWAYS SEEMED OK ,WHEN YOU LISTENED TO JIMMY YOUNG.
THE BBC TREATED HIM LIKE SHIT IN GETTING RID OF HIM,
BUT THATS THE BBC HAVE NOT A CLUE AND OUT OF TOUCH
Be fair, Jimmy had been on BBC Radio from 1967 to 2002, they didn't exactly treat him bad by employing him for 35 years!!
You may very well think that. You could hardly be more wrong.
Great days
Legend radio presenter
I used to love the opening theme music.
Town Talk by Ken Woodman.
As a break from today's dystopian present I've whisked myself back to being a teen. The Cold War back then, the Falklands war and the political landscape seemed so mundane now! My parents were alive and life was just about what I would do at the weekend. It is quite interesting though to listen out for clues in the news about what was brewing for us in the future...
Hello from Ireland 🇮🇪.
Excellent broadcaster....David Jacobs..Desmond Carrington..Pete Murray..Brian Matthews..also excellent broadcasters.In Ireland gay Byrne..Liam Nolan..Ronan Collins .same.
@Robert Bass Yes I do agree.Rather have radio than television.Oh I forgot to include Johnnie Walker...more to follow I imagine.
lol the year i left school , never thought i would one day have my stereo tuned to Radio 2. Also to think they get £300 winter fuel allowance now
I’m 41 I listen to BBC radio 2 every day Mr vine. My Nan used to listen to Jimmy back in the day I was born in 1980… Thank you for posting this x
This makes me smile so much because it reminds me of my nan. We listened to JY every day. Even in the 1980’s my nan called the radio the wireless ❤
He is a idiot
I wish You tube would get rid of the adverts. It is doing my head in
I totally agree my friend...I has now become overpowering.. Destroying a GREAT service!
It's only now I understand that in the 1980s Radio 2 had presenters who were masters of the medium live. At one stage the morning line up alone at one point was Ray Moore, Ken Bruce, Jimmy Young. And later in the schedule there was John Dunne who to this day I don't think has ever been surpassed in the Drivetime slot, tho Simon Mayo came close.
I have just subbed and liked 👍 the video
TTFN & BFN RIP JY
Rip Jimmy young
What's the name of the Jimmy Young intro music? I've wondered that for ages.
It's Town Talk by Ken Woodman & his Piccadilly Brass ruclips.net/video/T7J6evZ55OY/видео.html
@@RandomRadioJottings Thanks very much. I must have listened to it hundreds of times when I was very young in the 80s.
Im so glad I found that theme tune. Thank you so much. This reminds me very much of my grandma. She always had radio 2 on in the kitchen. She loved the jimmy young program and I loved it cause I did. So when this particular episode was broadcast I was 7, due to turn 8 in May that year. This would have been February half term so I wonder if we were listening to it together that day?
@@ajs41 me too. My grandma had radio 2 on in the car or the kitchen so I got to listen to it loads. I listen to radio to myself when I am working from home and I’ve got to say that it has gone downhill so much since these good old days. As soon as Ken Bruce leaves radio two, and if Gary Davies is next to be kicked out then that’s me and radio two finished. Bring back the good old days.
@@RandomRadioJottingssounds like the beach boys!!
Sir Jim was a good old fashioned Radio DJ. Today's Radio 2 is full untalented nobody's and its no longer worth listening to.
