A brilliant performance in a brilliant film. I stumbled on it one day while I was channel surfing.. I couldn't stop watching it. Instantly became one of my favourite all time films..
bought this movie..couldnt resist..its a gem!most beautiful thing I have seen...the actors are all great..and Sam is fantastic as Ian..And congrats to him for singing at the film and not having playback by Ian..Joy division will live forever in our hearts...
Great film!!Realistic,touching,amazing...Sam Riley is so perfect for the role!!He looks like Ian and his voice is soooo cool!!!He is actually a professional singer and musician and not an actor...This film depicts the unique personality of Ian and his talent, his soul, his fragile entity...we love u Ian..
Excellent movie. It was very difficult to not shed a few tears at the end. Powerful movie, and a tragic story. I grew up listening to this band and many others.
I have to say that I really liked this movie and that Sam Riley was great as Ian Curtis. They definately deserved the awards it won at the BAFTAs last year.
control is such an amazing movie. so much depression, music, sex, personality, music history... Sam Riley is unique in the role of Ian Curtis. Deepest respect.
I still have his autograph and a drawing he did for me in ballpoint pen...saw the guys 3 times, met them all and they were really wonderful to me. thanx for this
I didn't know anything about ian curtis and joy division except for their songs before I watched the film. After I saw it I watched a video clip on youtube and realised it was a great film!
amazing kick ass movie!! Sam Riley did a superb job with the acting involved as well as the singing although i admit he doesn't sound completely like Ian, but he did a good enough job at portraying a great writer and musician. This movie rocks!
I saw the film the week it came out having been a JD fan since I was 15. I was kind of dreading it but excited and I left the cinema stunned at how good the film was. Surely one of the best biopics ever made. A stunning success.
This movie was so good it gave me chills. I wish this movie director would make another movie about Nick Drake. The cast was so close to the real people! WOW!
Ian Curtis has such a powerful, distinct voice--it is no small feat to attempt to sound like him. Sam Riley (the actor here) did an admirable job here. His mannerisms and vocal inflections are spot-on as Ian. It is a lot to ask that he sound *exactly* like Ian. I don't know if anyone can do that. Go see the movie, he does a great job in it.
hes a legend and deserves your respect and admiration if not then dont listen you wont ever understand none of us will it was his life and you have no business judging his decisions thanks
Just watched this film,it's good, thought therd be a little more about Ian's life..It's missing some parts.. I was amazed that the Actors and Ians actor Sam Riley learned how to play and respectivly sing like Ian,when Sam Riley first started to sing it gave me goosebumps. Well worth a rental.
I liked the film a lot, especially because it reflects the real feelings of people during the 70/80. There was a huge change between being "in" and "out" of society. Joy Division was a pioneer (such as were the Sex Pistols with Anarchy in the UK). My parents did not allow me to buy the LP's of them (I did it anyway). Greetings to ya all
I saw this movie last week.....great movie! I think the actor ( Sam Riley ) playing Ian had a challenge to play....but did good. This movie just reinforces just how unique a performer Ian Curtis was. Case in point: the scene in the movie where the band play "Transmission" on T.V. .......it looks like Riley had to practice very hard on the Ian Curtis "Dance" . With the real Ian the dance just came and flowed out of him naturally with the music. No practice involved!
Can't believe that the first one to comment on this video was in June 2007 fuck me where has that time went it's now June 2016, 9 years later and we are still talking about this film and the band... do you why because they are the fucking best God loves joy division and control ze film!!!
WHAT AN AMAZING VIDEO i LOVE WHEN the guitar starts it´s such a powerful guitar. !!!!!!!!! WHAT A KICK ASS SONG !!!!!!!! ...... FANTASTIC PERFOMANCE !!!!!!
I got a tattoo of the french lyrics. J'ai perdue la controle. I just love this song so much. Sometimes I wish I was born in closer to when Joy Division were active because they're fucking amazing. Then I could see all of my favorite bands too like the JAMC and Buzzcocks. I'm SSOO stuck in the past.
In 1980 a ten year old boy learned that even if people speak your name with reverence, it can not shield you from a mad man's bullets or your own. Good Bye, Ian and John, your names will be remembered as the rest of us fade into oblivion.
The fact that they actually played the songs themselves to me made the film that much more authentic. It wouldn't have worked as well if they had been aping to a recording. The guy who played Ian Curtis did a really good job...probably helped that he looked a lot like him too...It's amazing the impact of Joy Division and Ian Curtis considering he died so young.
Yeah, I know what you mean, all the cast versions are class! Apparently thoughm there's a SECOND soundtrack that has all the cast versions on it! I seen it somewhere on the internet, but I can't remember where. It definitely exists though and I WANT IT!
He has the right robotic moves and face, his voice ghostly too, he does a great job at acting, but about that voice, it indeed does sound less deeper, darker than Ian Curtis'. But then again, I don't mind much, I love this film already while I haven't seen it yet - but I will, and I think it will be amazing. Am I right or am I a fool? You decide.
This kid should have gotten an oscar, He's a younger and living Heath Ledger. He'll be big, give him some time...and if the acting thing dosen't pan out he can always start a band;could be interesting.
I can confirm that the movie doesn't suck, as I've seen it. Honestly, the strongest part of the movie for me, was the actors renditions of the songs. They did a fabulous job. Transmission was a little underwhelming, but I loved everything else.
I can´t fucking believe it´s practically his FIRST job as an actor. Man when someone has the talent it works right from the very beginning! He´ll be in On The Road as Jack Kerouac and I just CAN´T WAIT. Sam Riley is one of the best actors of his generation, easily!
It's not meant to be an imitation! It's actors for heaven's sake. They are portraying the sprit of Ian and guys. If you want an impression you can have Mike Yarwood!!
A brilliant performance in a brilliant film. I stumbled on it one day while I was channel surfing.. I couldn't stop watching it. Instantly became one of my favourite all time films..
Saw this film last night at the Little Theatre, Bath. Met Anton, the director, afterwards. What a gent. What a genius.
bought this movie..couldnt resist..its a gem!most beautiful thing I have seen...the actors are all great..and Sam is fantastic as Ian..And congrats to him for singing at the film and not having playback by Ian..Joy division will live forever in our hearts...

I saw the film the week it came out having been a JD fan since I was 15. I was kind of dreading it but excited and I left the cinema stunned at how good the film was. Surely one of the best biopics ever made. A stunning success.

Absolutely, his performance is amazing.
Sam Riley is the best actor of his generation, period. Just incredible.
L'acteur Sam Riley est incroyable! Un film époustouflant, pour un groupe mythique.

Good Bye, Ian and John, your names will be remembered as the rest of us fade into oblivion.

very very good movie indeed...
You bet me too it mate. This guy speaks the truth.
You decide.

I just bought it on amazon. I should have it by Wednesday. I am also looking to buy Torn Apart.
Ian Curtis was born in Old Trafford, actually. He moved to Macc when he was young.
