Sam did great. In an interview he said that he was so nervous due to the fact that the majority of the crowd were hardcore-JD fans.
I found it sad how much of an open and sarcastic funny person Ian was before he started taking medication for his epilepsy
It's cool that Sam sings this himself. Very well done. The move is incredible.
THAT BASS
What separates this film from other bio-pics is the respect the actors had. They learned their instruments to add to the realism of the film. The director went all in to try and get the most engaging version of his experience with Joy Division.
Simply amazing.
I can't put into words how good this sounds
Max Milnes I can. "Better than the album version."

Welcome to the Club of JD's Addicts.
It's a life time addiction!!!
Ten years ago? I bet you're still hooked.. no pun intended.
All 4 of them nailed it didnt they, fucking superb
A great movie, great people, great band.
They did such marvelous covers of the songs.
Born from some mother's womb
Just like any other room
Made a promise for a new life
Made a victim out of your life
When your time's on the door
And it drips to the floor
And you feel you can touch
All the noise is too much
And the seeds that are sown
Are no longer your own
Just a minor operation
To force a final ultimatum
Thousand words are spoken loud
Reach the dumb to fool the crowd
When you walk down the street
And the sound's not so sweet
And you wish you could hide
Maybe go for a ride
To some peep-show arcade
Where the future's not made
A nightmare situation
Infiltrate imagination
Smacks of past Holy wars
By the wall with broken laws
The leaders of men
Born out of your frustration
The leaders of men
Just a strange infatuation
The leaders of men
Made a promise for a new life
No savior for our sakes
To twist the internees of hate
Self-induced manipulation
To crush all thoughts of mass salvation
Joy Division, I am a believer, fuckin halleluiah!
This is more akin to the version found on the compilation "Warsaw" (with the baby on the cover) than the EP version which is murkier and slower.
Forever Ian
Terrific song
I Love This Song, The Best Of Joy Division
Hess was a strange character. He secretly flew to England to negotiate about ending the war. Hitler considered him a madman rather than a traitor. He lived long and died in a German prison in the 80's where he remained the last inmate. After his death the prison got demolished. At the time the song was written, Hess was still alive. But he was forgotten.
@adambiri4008 Hess flew to Scotland.
I fucking love how Hooky is dressed in this one, it would look better with a captain hat. I also love those tall boots...
Mikael Salander Holy fuck! Sexy!!
@jbrown1169 Yes it's true that James Anthony Pearson didn't know how to play the guitar when he auditioned for the role, but he learned to play in two months.Originally A.C. had never intended for the band to play live, but they practiced so much together and got really good so they suggested to A.C. that they should play the songs live in order to make it more authentic and he agreed.A.C. clearly states on the DVD commentary that ALL the live performances were indeed performed live by the actors
Thanks for the file upload!
His voice are so equal to the voice of Ian that, in the begin i think this is an live version
The Leaders of Men - Made a Promise for a New Life...It's 1933 all over again!
How is it 1993? Joy Division stopped in 1980.
Mark Daniel Dekker Read Sally Smith once more please
for any one who had suffered depression rock will never died we will work on it
lov those riffs, infectious
AWESOME!!
@jbrown1169 I also saw an interview with Sam Riley in which he stated that it was extremely nerve racking to have to play in front of a crowd of Joy Division fans, and that they all tried really hard to get the songs right so they wouldn't let down the JD fans
I love this version, along with Joy Division's orginal!
Wow, sounds just like Ian. Damn near close.
THE BEGINNING OF LEADER OF MEN
SOUNDS LIKE NEW ROSE OF THE DAMNED
sooo good
this is soo good, its creeping!!

Bernard actually said "you all forgot Rudolph Hess" when they played and early song called "At a later date" live.
Sam is dressed like that cuz Ian was wearing leather pants in the early JD days. Barney mentioned that in the JD Documentary.
Reminds me a lot of Jim Morrison if he was still alive
a nightmare situation
infiltrate imagination
Actually not a random reference at all. Hess presented the insanity of his nation, thus "Joy Division" being something of pleasure for so many who created so much pain.
Magnífico, dejaron un legado tremendo para la música
❤️❤️❤️
☄️🌟
Genialne!
🖤
Uploaded on his death date
Ian's birthday is today happy 57th birthday
They didn't play this song when he said "you all forgot Rudolf Hess". They played "At a Later Date"
@OperatorOscillation They played both.
I MUST watch this film. Dodgy Russian website time? Or buy it. I know, support the artists. 😌
same here
there's no fucking guts and soul projection , into it !!!
@InterZlatan8 true.
bossoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@oXMistressLolaXo I saw an interview with James Anthony Pearson (I'll try and find it on the net) in which he said he lied to Anton Corbijn about being able to play guitar when he auditioned, and that he managed to learn to play one of their songs. But I'm seeing another interview (not video, just a website) in which he claims they recorded a master track in the recording studio and mimed it in front of a crowd of 200. So maybe the singing was live, but the rest wasn't.
Hi folks!
This song is really great!
In few days, I will be putting a cover version we have made!
Stay tuned!

Nothing specific, my friend. Bernard just mentioned Hess out of pure originality... I think. Haha... what a guy.
@sparkyinbath
Have you all forgetten rudolph hess?
@jbrown1169
Oh ya... and if you knew anything about Joy Division you would know that they preferred to play the majority of their songs faster during live performances... they weren't made more "danceable" just for the film... whatever the fuck that means.
@martinandre91 True that Bro-they're tight !! : )
this is Warsaw
Rudolf who?

old name
@oXMistressLolaXo I meant they sound more "poppy" in the film. And I know plenty about Joy Division, and have plenty of their live stuff. I have the Collector's Editions of Unknown Pleasures, Closer and Still, all of which come with a bonus disc of live tracks, and I have the "Preston 28 February 1980" and "Les Bains Douches" live albums. So I know how they sounded live, I didn't say anything about the speed anyway.
I hear morrison was one of his influences, so i wouldnt be surprised if he dressed like him. leather pants all day amirite ? :D
At A Later Date
wowwww, this is odd!!! I´m the 66666 person to see this video on a Friday the 13th!!! CREEEEEEEPY!!!!
Is that really him singing, asking for a friend
look at bernards guitar then look at his on shes lost contol, original...its the same
This is how the song should be played...loud, fast, thrashy. The studio version by the real band on Heart & Soul is a lot less 'punk', and though that one is by the real band, this superb cover version has the edge. I understand JD didn't like the slower arrangement, so I guess Martin Hannett was fallible after all. Is there a decent quality live version of LOM by JD out there?
@Nariel7 The actors didn't know how to play the songs, at least not all of them. Several were obviously mimed, and unless they were pretending to play them in insanely odd and unnecessary tuning, had little to no knowledge how a guitar actually works. And they had to jazz up several versions of JD songs, the real versions were very Spartan, they made them more "danceable" or whatever for this film.
I know of joy division. But what is warsaw?
Feito a imagem e semelhaca de Deus mais era fraco covarde deu a fim algo tao importante como a vida lutou com milhares de micro organismo dentro do ventre da mae mais nao deu valor
I know JD weren’t national socialists, but why did they have a 3rd Reich theme?
back when they were first getting started in the punk scene it was kind of a trend, for lack of a better word. lots of bands from around that time used nazi imagery basically just as shock value or for the macabre aspect of it (pink floyd, sid vicious come to mind)
What if Ian had emo hair? 😏😏 I am joking! Dont be offended I said "emo" on here 😂 Ian/Sam would be hot anyway 😛😍
