    Joy Division is really special
I first heard them when I was 15, now I'm 50 and they're still my best band
Now my daughter is 15 and she says Joy Division is the best band ever. She told me that two years ago

I'm a few years older than you and my 18 yr old son just asked me if I've ever heard "Ceremony" by New Order. It made me sad and happy at the same time. He heard what I consider the cover version of the song and not the perfect, original, version by Joy Division. At least the kids are hearing the good stuff from the 80's and not just the pop garbage that was forced on us back then.

my brother once said this song is pure perfection, that there shouldn't be a bone in your body incapable of allowing this to boil the marrow and give strength to weakness, health to disease, a cure of spirit, full of love, love of ceremony, events unnerving.

This song was written 16 days before Ian took his life. It was never properly recorded as Joy Division. The only JD version is from Still, one of their last live concert recordings. I believe this is simply Bernard singing and the taped slowed for him to sound like Ian.

    • @chefbrad73

Apparently bernard had to transcribe the lyrics throw a graphic equalizer to have the lyrics since Ian never wrote them down and on all Joy Division recordings you really couldn't understand what he was singing. So this is Bernard sumner singing. They did two I believe as the new incarnation as New Order then when Gillian joined the re-recorded it again

The Beatles are the most overrated group of all time. JD's debut rips molten shreds out of the entire Beatles' back catalogue effortlessly and changed the whole face of music in it's wake. The Beatles didn't do that in 7 albums. Also Pink Floyd were much better than The Beatles in their own era.....

Ian made this song 16 days before he killed hisself making this the final song ever recorded by joy division and last time Ian’s voice is in a song. As of 10/17/21 Ian has been dead for 15,127 days. On New Order Substance this is the opening track and used as like a end of a era to Joy Division and a start as New Order.

Chissà come sarebbero state le canzoni dei New order se Ian Curtis fosse ancora vivo, sembra quasi come se fossero entrati in una nuova era di fare musica con i sintetizzatori, il fatto stesso di essere rinati come gruppo all'inizio degli 80 ha influito molto.
Tutta questa serie di eventi ha fatto si che sia i New order come gruppo "new wave- sinthypop" che i Joi Division come gruppo "postpunk- new wave" non saranno mai passati o dimenticati dagli amanti della New wave.
    Detto ciò, grazie mille Ian!!
Ps: Unknown Pleasures è per me in assoluto l'album più bello del genere postpunk, e credo non solo per me ;)

This is why events unnerve me
They find it all, a different story
Notice whom for wheels are turning
Turn again and turn towards this time
All she ask's the strength to hold me
Then again the same old story
Word will travel, oh so quickly
Travel first and lean towards this time.
Oh, I'll break them down, no mercy shown
Heaven knows, it's got to be this time
Watching her, these things she said
    The times she cried
Too frail to wake this time.
Oh, I'll break them down, no mercy shown
Heaven knows, it's got to be this time
    Avenues all lined with trees
Picture me and then you start watching
    Watching forever, forever
    Watching love grow, forever
    Letting me know, forever.

Thank you for this. This is a beautiful lyric video. Ceremony has been a favorite of mine since I was young enough to remember car rides to it with my post-punk loving parents. The older I get and the sadder I feel, the more I understand the words. So tragic, so moving. The hole in my heart feels both larger and smaller, breaking and healing. Will be adding this video specifically to my favorite "music videos" list as the gray blue angels, red words and slowed, deep sound (good job!) are exquisite. x Ken

There are not many true Joy Division Ceremony tracks out there. What we have is new order ceremony slowed down. Play it at 1.25 speed and you have Bernard Sumners on New Order' Ceremony. The original JD track with Ian on vocals is extremely difficult to pick up his lyrics and N.O did change some of lyrics due them not knowing JD's lyrics. Sorry to disappoint anybody. All the best from Lancashire.

There is no such thing as "a better life." The balance on each side of this is very small. If you have food and shelter there is no reason to believe in a better life as long as you are grasping REALITY. You are either in reality or you are not.

*Melpomene and Thalia* "The Vortex and the Fighters"
All the world is a stage
and all the people are actors.
Will it be a comedy or a tragedy?
They've been sucked into the parts
    and they all play improv.
It's a great coliseum, full of malady.
    The Prince and the King,
    they're up high watching
    (playing out their legacy).
They're playing for the greatest kingdom
    one that's everlasting.
    The fighter is so comedic,
but the stadium cannot turn away,
from a blood soaked scene so tragic.
So soon he is on his way.
    Tragedy always wins a crowd.
    It's ten times more enduring.
The comedian always takes to flight.
    He ends up very boring.
    People always chase and cheer
    a tragedy unfolding.
Even when it draws them in
    to steal their very sanity.
    Melpomene and Thalia
    aren't too hard to understand.
    Comedy is stronger.
    But, tragedy kills the lame.
Every man must play for kingdom
    and make his legacy enduring.
How does one then grasp the wheel?
How do they set it turning?
A tragedy will draw a crowd
and they'll all soon gather around.
Once they're there he makes his choices
who to kill and and who to bind
who to save and let run his kind,
but unless the King is smart of mind,
he'll end up as a tragic find.
So the thief plots it out on paper.
He plots it to the points.
    He plans his great escape,
    whilst eating curds and tarts.
He take the world for its treasure.
He takes it all with stealth.
    then laughing, makes his break
out the door with all their wealth.
    -Foul Oleo

*The Squaring of Circles and Phi*
A greater man has fewer ambitions because he is already perfect in form and perspective. He does not chase women who are more perfect in form and he doesn't need to explain the universe because he already understands it in perspective. His only job is to impart ambition in others and battle off those glued to him. Other men are so imperfect as to not become able to reach to world at all. This is why there are two kinds of men in low places.
Mathematics is like the saliva in the mouth of a wolf who sees a more perfect form and, thus must chase it down to eat it, eventually to chase down the moon or create a more perfect form than himself which is like conquering it. Here is the bloodline of wolves more perfect in each generation, though some wolves are more ambitious in their circles and thus birth a lesser king.
The sinister truth of men is that they are predators and, thus more imperfect by form and nature than women and the universe in general, some are more imperfect than others and must live with greater ambitions.

*Paradise Gained* 'Picking the Locks at Heaven's Gate"
Paradise is to not only grasp the books but to write at one's leisure. It is to not fear violence, but to grasp the sword. It is to not engineer and till the soil, but to make for one's further grasp. Paradise is to transcend the spiritual network and live with clarity, instead where the spirits act on one's behalf. Paradise has been both lost and denied since Eden of the Bible because of the sins of mankind. From here love is the fool and the curse.
    *Taming the Spirits*
    Laughter echoes down the halls,
    Paradise at Heaven's Gate.
The parchment and the ink still calls,
of Hells they've written of late.
    Fortune in taming the spirits,
    and for witnessing them, too,
in a vast world of confusion,
    a thief and a vampire's coup.
    To future wars!
    To future glories!
    To fortunes tall,
    beyond the stories!
The guiding spirits, they lift my pen,
    these resonated glories they send.
It's an everlasting hall of echoes,
empty and barren, a world of Hellish frescoes.
Laughter from a thief, an unknown name.
    Signed, instead in a pseudonym.

Why did they call Mozart "Amadeus?" Moats are round. Art is around. They should've called him "Areaundadaeus."

The pictures are wonderful in your Video but doesn't fit to the Text. Difficult to read sometimes.
