@Magic 8 Ball He was in hell...in his own body on Earth. That's how a teenager could come up with lyrics as haunting and profound as he did...suffering. God is not cruel, Ian is home now.
God bless and rest in peace Ian. Wished you knew how much your unique once in a lifetime talent has inspired so many artists since your death. Its a sin that you did not get the help you needed. Out of step in time you were. That was your magic and then it ultimately became your demise. A shooting star analogy. Briefest moment in the sky and then gone but etched in all our hearts and minds onwards forever.
To me one of the best songs still to this day. One must go back to that time in the late 70’s and beginning of the 80’s. The Thatcher and Carter years the doom and gloom of that period, the economic down turn and the height of the Cold War that was everywhere in England; US; The West. Bands such as Joy Division and the Smiths with their lyrical styles spoke to the youth of that period like no others. Spoke to the despair the youth felt.
If any psychologist or psychiatrist wanted to use Joy Division as a thesis into human pain, suffering and it’s results; well here you are. I first heard and watched JD on The Tube; I’m a Geordie so there you go. I was gobsmacked by JD immediately, dark haunting rhythms and constant beats, the only reason that JD haven’t been lauded more than they are is because they frighten people, they open the window to their souls and nobody likes to look inside in case it contradicts their personal view of themselves. Joy Division had less success and appeal compared to New Order; which I also like very much. But it’s only now that the roots are starting to resonate and bring people back. I never left, at approaching 68 I still understand the multi layers of life, death and confusion that life presents us with. Funny isn’t it, an unknown slightly schizophrenic Manchester boy could condense down human essence and spit it back at the world in such meaningful form. Rest peacefully Ian Curtis, life tormented you.
I am due to go in a couple of weeks but it has been damaged and top stone stolen - again!!! Desecration of any kind infuriates and sickens me. Mindless. I hope someone violates something of theirs, let's see how they like that....

Ian is immortal in these clips. His stage presence was hypnotic, you just gazed at him and your mind went blank as he twisted and shook projecting his views about the dark side of his life. Saw him at the Rainbow, London just a few months before his suicide. Heard all his pain and frustration being unleashed on a dazzled audience and it was just incredible. Must have played Unknown Pleasures and Closer more than any other albums in my extensive collection. The other members of the band hated him and their lack of support was one of the reasons why he gave up on life just before the group made it really big. Ian is my anti-hero, an example of what not to do when you are down and can't see an immediate way out.

Codeine Phosphate is good but this affects digestion so you need to eat foods that stop this. A drug called Gabapentin might be effective, have used this myself for pain and sleeplessness.
Will send you you distant reiki healing, Regards from Bodhi.
This was often the first song at each Gig. As it has a long intro It was always a good warm-up for Ian Curtis for his "Shamen like trance dance" Ian We miss you!
One of my all time favorite bands these guys were ahead of there time and Ian lyrics is just powerfull and sick rock on Joy Division😃😃
The soul that came from nowhere, and who has gone everywhere. "Substance".
Listened to JD since the early 80's, still do and still love them!
There were intros, good intros , great intros then Dead Souls.
Remarkable.
I love this. It's like finding new music for the first time. I've never heard them until recently. I am probably a decade older than most people who know Joy division, but I listened to Hooky's book, Unknown Pleasures and just had to listen to the music. I am completely in love with it! I am so sorry that Ian is gone. He was such an iconic singer and personality. Like Jim Morrison. They both have that "of no particular era" quality to their music. I want to hear everything they've done. and New Order too. Thanks, Jeff You deserve to break your arm patting yourself on the back. *smiles *
What about The Bangles?
One of the best Joy Division songs. Great lyrics...excellent transitions musically a clinic on how not to sound like anyone else.
I lost my brother the same way Ian went out. Brutal but look to the beauty of what was left behind and what remains
Dead Souls and Disorder are my favorite Joy Division songs. Pretty good job with the music video btw.
i have to go with disorder, new dawn fades then dead souls but those are my top 3...
I'm a big interpol and editors fan and it's crazy how much you can see Joy Divison in them. Great song.
If you like Interpol. Check this from 1982. It's like the blueprint for them.

The love I have for this song and this band is endless. Every time I listen to this, I realize how beyond these guys are. It's satori and perfection thats beyond mortality. One of the greatest bands OF ALL TIME. Thank you for putting this together Jeff. You have a lot of love.
It’s fing mind blowing every time !! Omfggggg they have no
equals.
The greatest Ian Curtis ❤️❤️
My all-time favorite Joy Division song.
(And you did do a great job putting the footage together!)
The video you made is brilliant! Thank you very much. Well done!! So much of this footage I've never seen before. I always loved this, Disorder and (most of all) Decades.
Hooky's final bass ride is one of my favorite musical moments ever. One of the most amazing bands ever!
I remember these guys in 1980, I used to listen on tape in my Mini car.
My favorite song and band of all time. Ian Curtis' and Joy Division's depth of feeling and authenticity blows everyone else away. Just found an old photo of Ian on Google Images. It's great, he looks the same at 5 as he looks at 22... Thank you, Ian, you're the best!
This might as well be the official video 🤷🏽♂️
Great job, Jeff. Thanks for the upload. Absolutely timeless music.
TERRIFIC!!! Superb!!! Congrats and thank you for the work

So sorry to hear that. A stranger (me) is symbolically sending you some light.
Incredible video you put together . Love Ian, love Joy Division, love Dead Souls. Pray for the holy soul of Ian
Absolutely Brilliant !!! Many Thanks for the upload.
talent jeff awesome job... Brings me back 'they keep calling me"
This is bloody brilliant mate. You done a damn good job making this video.
Someday in heaven I will hear ian again. He is truly great.
@Magic 8 Ball He was in hell...in his own body on Earth. That's how a teenager could come up with lyrics as haunting and profound as he did...suffering. God is not cruel, Ian is home now.
@@mylessee5088 amem! "Blessed is he who does not blame God" said King David
Congratulatiosn Jeff!! very nice your mix w clear sound and emotional images of the band
Fantastic song and video!!! Thanks for the post!!!
Well said
Thanks Jeff this is great!!
Amazing! as a Joy Division fan I can only thank you for your work. I am very impressed with the quality of the video you got. Congratulations.
We miss you always Ian 🖤 Thank so much JM for this video.
Nunca haverá nada igual ou parecido. JD Forever and never
To me one of the best songs still to this day.
Really excellent collage! Saw them several times around Lancashire 78-80...brings a tear to my eye...
Words fail me. Superb, tune and great video progrmming
Excellent job!
Superb Jeff.....loving every minute of this
This video was well put together. Always loved this song. So sad to see such talent go.
This song will live 1000 years
❤ thanks for this, really
Pure art, pure rock n roll. Thanks.
Superb edition. Master work for the best song of Joy Division. Thank you so much Jeff
this is brilliant!
just pay'd a visit in Macclesfield cemetery on the 18/05..no one else was there..btw this is one of my favorite
I am due to go in a couple of weeks but it has been damaged and top stone stolen - again!!! Desecration of any kind infuriates and sickens me. Mindless. I hope someone violates something of theirs, let's see how they like that....
@@sueashton3786 they would have to move their remains to some good cemetery in manchester, that disrespect cannot be tolerated poor Ian still suffers misfortunes being dead
think its about being in that moment and time
nothing can take away that special moment in time post punk
explosion. joy division so exicting so glad i was there to see it live
Just spot on buddy, best video I've watched in a long time. Very well done. RIP Ian.
Their masterpiece
A superb edit. Really well matched from all the surviving footage, particularly synching the Manchester Apollo video. Wish you had avoided the regular reference to Ian's death at the end, though. Otherwise, pretty marvellous.
Brilliant song and group
Thanks! Good job. years later and this is still a rare find
Someone take these dreams away
That point me to another day
A duel of personalities
That stretch all true realities
That keep calling me
They keep calling me
Keep on calling me
They keep calling me
Where figures from the past stand tall
And mocking voices ring the halls
Imperialistic house of prayer
Conquistadors who took their share
That keep calling me
They keep calling me
Keep on calling me
They keep calling me
Calling me, calling me
Calling me, calling me
They keep calling me
Keep on calling me
They keep calling me
They keep calling me
Trent Reznor does an excellent cover of this song. But you can't ever beat an original ❤
I love Trent's version but when I heard the original by Joy Division I was blown away! The beats and Ian's voice are just perfection.
Holy hell, I just discovered this original version today! I had no idea Trent's version was a cover of Joy Division's! So sad it took me this long to figure this out, lol. Learn something new everyday!
Tear of joy! @@blueblade455
Thank you for this ! Outstanding !

Eu amo demais está música!!! Tá na playlist da minha vida!!
Minha favorita também.

Masterpiece
This is the only song that can bring life back into my perspective, anytime I've got the blues I just dance my ass of to this song and the world is okay for one beautiful moment
Ian is immortal in these clips. His stage presence was hypnotic, you
just gazed at him and your mind went blank as he twisted and shook
projecting his views about the dark side of his life. Saw him at the
Rainbow, London just a few months before his suicide. Heard all his pain
and frustration being unleashed on a dazzled audience and it was just
incredible.
Proof that they hated him?
@@5burowz Yes, a documentary was made where Peter Hook, Bernard Sumner and Stephen Morris were asked about their feelings towards Ian after finding out he hanged himself. "We thought, what a bastard to do that just before we were to embark on a tour of the USA". They all sounded very annoyed that their front man opted out of the band's progress and they had to change the name of the band after that. New Order made average records at best and now Peter Hook has started to play all the original Joy Division songs calling himself 'Peter Hook and the light'
