Has anyone pointed out how the actor playing Stephen Morris is absolutely nailing that insane drumbeat?
He wasn’t an actor he was a drummer
Yeah he is an actor pretty sure he played Kurt Cobain in his movie
Never mind its the bassist who plays Cobain 😂😂
@@102sydney Which Kurt Cobain movie is that?
@@mudhut1967
Joe Anderson was in “Across the Universe” as a Kurt Cobain-like figure.
Honestly, when they finished this take, I bet the director was real proud.
Probably the best cover of Transmission to ever be recorded. Every cover they did for this movie was perfect actually.
yeah
Too bad they didnt make a version of Ceremony
Didn't even know it was a cover. I thought they used the version from a live version of the song
Jorge Roca ‘Too bad they didn’t make a version of Ceremony’ is what I think about most good bands! My very favorite Galaxie 500 song is their version of Ceremony. It is perfect.
I love this
I love how this sounds like a cross between Joy Division and Warsaw
The attention to detail here is really spot on. The actual performance they're replicating is much more raw and electric but this is really great. Like the way the bassist carries his bass low like Hooky does, or the guitarist looking at the guitar as he is playing just like Sumner.
The movie was great but the one problem I had with it was the lack of any sort of comic relief. The band members always recall how Ian actually had a sense of humor and wasn't always deathly serious and that that all came with the mythification. There was some though it always felt like the band was always so intense in serious even outside of the music in the movie. But I understand why the movie portrayed it all to be so dark, because Ian Curtis was troubled and Joy Division captured that. Great movie nonetheless.
the role of comedic relief in the film is Rob Gretton.
I think it was also kind of biased towards the view of his wife because it was based on the book she wrote - I feel like it would've been better to have a more internal perspective from different angles, not just his wife
@@daussiedude1848 your correct
@@daussiedude1848 Also Peter Hook
Phenomenal performance. Sam Riley deserves so much credit. He did an amazing part portraying the way Ian felt personally. More than we’ll all ever know.... Rest In Peace Ian, you are remembered by many through sound and many black and white photos.
The intro sounds like he's trying to describe them, like a painting.
The part before this is halarious!
The actor playing Ian curtis sounds great singing joy division songs. They should tour
I'd go to see them.
I hate saying this but i didnt know about joy division until i seen the movie. The guy playing Ian Curtis i thought was lip singing. Anyways i like the way his voice sounds better than Ians on most songs. I hate saying that because i think Ian was a great song writer and an amazing talent. I truely felt like they could have toured. They were that good. Alternative rock is all but dead. I wish they would play transmition with Sam singing it on alternative radio stations it would be a breath of fresh air.
@@davidbauer5391 have you heard Sam’s old band 10,000 Things?
Yes it would he can hit the high note's and LOW note's too, amazing vocalist as well. Look's a little like him too. I saw Interpol once at Leeds festival and Paul Banks sounded identical to Curtis in the indoor tent.
Superb Performance
Great film, great performances.
When they aired this, it was originally shadow play, Brill film though. Great actor who played Ian Curtis.
S.B GAMERS This is based off an actual televised Joy Division performance. I think Shadowplay and She's Lost Control were also played that night.
StonedHaze Records no that was a year later. Shadowplay was a different time. They did the shadowplay show in 1978 and then the transmission/she’s lost control one was in 1979 on a show called “something else”.
@@daviddockery8962 they also performing she's lost control in the same TV appearance called "Granada reports" but they're not play transmission
i dont understand, the tv debut that this scene relates to they performed shadowplay not transmission!!??
"hands up if you were trying to do the ian arm dance thing "
\o/
In his seems like Curtis' second coming. They both have that occasional low register voice. To me when i ever i hear Untitled or Evil to name a few, i think of Ian Curtis
I know I’m replying to an old comment but the guy playing the drummer is harry treadaway an actor he also played victor frankenstein in penny dreadful, he is a musician guitarist I believe, but he learned to play the drums for this film, fair play to him!
Hook actually used a Hondo Rickenbacker 4001 bass copy
Electric Warrior Yup but the real deal is much easier to find. In fact during the "Love will tear us apart" scene "Hook" was playing a burgundy Rickenbacker rather than the Yamaha BB Bass the real Hook began to favor in those days.
Probably for the same reason, those old Yamaha basses are becoming ever harder to find.
Indeed. in one interview Hook mentions that the bass he used would probably be worth a fortune now, but he never said that he still owned it
You're so cringy,man
Thanks a lot for update this extended performances and for upload the link to the zip file :D :D
I'm so glad to found it!
I liked some songs of Joy Division before watch this movie, but after see it, I just fell in love with Joy Division and with the performance of the actors (specially Sam)
I have to read the book from Debby!
Thanks again
Bye!
2:52 Is the best part of the song, the actor nailed the daaaance lol
Yes but Ian dances faster
He nailed his left eye tho
And we can daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaance....
Excellent Stuff! Sam did a great Job!
I wonder whether these performances were recorded live, with the band members actually playing the instruments - it looks pretty real
lewys93 the actors performed the live songs themselves
OTIMA COVER PARECE MESMO O SOM,O VISUAL TUDO ESTÁ BEM PARECIDO COM A JOY DIVISION
Yeah, Sam Riley does quite a good job, pity Paul Bank's wasn't available! it would have been like Ian Curtis's second coming.
This is like 2 or 3 different performances but is still somehow incredibly accurate
Paul Banks doing Curtis would be fucking PHENOMENAL.
I wonder if Sam Riley knew joy division before this
The drummer is soooo cute!!!!!
@lewys93
Yup, it was
@CARNLOU
I think they did it cuz this song is a bit shorter so the scene doesn't feel elongated. And maybe they also wanted to emphasize his dancing 8]
no the original video really does start like this just search it and you'll see.
2 ..REGUETONEROS.
yes ur correct they decided to mix and match
😍
Still think they should play this on the radio
Sam Riley is a great actor
!!!
02:24 look at the left part of the image... Tyler Durden
Я раньше думал что это настоящий Иэн Кертис с Джой Дивижн .
Настолько всё кажется реальным !
0:53 just me or this dude looks exactly like kurt cobain?
+Bernardo Salles ye, is joe anderson
This is not fucking Kurt Cobain this is PETER HOOK
+GoldenCat you was talking about the actor!! are you for real?
Bernardo Salles no for me he look like Peter Hook in 1980 , but also kurt cobain
GoldenCat
im sorry, I was talking about the actor, joe anderson, he looks like kurt, but i know he is playing peter here, i know joy division since i was 11, im 27.
sam riley did and awesome part........just like val kilmer did a owesome jim morrison.
its granada reports, they should play shadowplay
0:25
@CARNLOU Actually, this is a BRITISH made film, not a Hollywood one...so watch who you go around calling a bastard...k. ;)
thank you for posting these videos. i thoroughly enjoyed the movie, even though i'm not a joy division fan. but i have to admit that i prefer riley to curtis. curtis's voice is just way to deep for me to enjoy.
Looks realer than real! Is this postmodern?
and hooky use hondo II (rickenbacker copy) not rickenbacker 4001
You are 21 years old according to your profile. You were not even sperm when Ian Curtis was alive. And this groups of actors did a tremendous job considering only one was a muscian prior to the movie. Thus, learn before you speak like the child you are.
@keo767p
Yes... they did play Shadowplay in reality, but you know Hollywood movies, they twist and bend facts to suit themselves... the bastards!! Still, this performance is fucking amazing, don't you think???
Hollywood? This is a fucking britain movie! Just like the band!
What’s up with captions?
That guy didn’t give a f
matrix bullet dodge style
better than rami malek's freddie mercury performance
Жаль что он так рано ушёл .
Banks? Doesn't sound like him, doesn't look like him.
Неплохой ремейк и чувак похожий,хорошо играет,но переигрывает.точнее он как-то делает это с через чур с большим напором и не так естественно изображает стиль выступления "обдолбанного Йена" в оригинале.
