I actually had one of those electrocution cookers in the late 60's. 110V right across each of those gaps, with only the plastic cap to protect you. I remember enjoying the hot dogs.

the 70's "as far as I'm concerned is the dinosaur ages" !! I graduated high school in 1970. We also had one of the "dinosaur age" hotdog cooker. They did taste 'different' even just plane. They cooked using electricity flowing through them, so they had that 'singed' taste. The ranch probably made it taste better. Thats not 'dirty' that electrocuted meat.
That oldschool hotdog cooker, gotta love how safe it is... use it on other stuff. Maybe pickles, twinkies, etc. The possibilities are endless... I love ranch but dude on a hotdog? Try some dill relish, lol. Love yer stuff, Rock on brother...
We had a 1980's version of the Hotdogger when I was growing up. It was a little better. The hotdogs still got impaled on prongs, but the prongs were in a slide out tray. When you pushed the tray all the way in, the electrical circuit was completed, and it started cooking the dogs. I remember the electrocuted dogs had a somewhat odd taste. It didn't leave any dirt in the meat, however. Maybe they improved the metal they were using, or maybe that old one is just breaking down due to age.
Why do they feel the need to over complicate just cooking a got dog will never make any sense to me. A skillet or a pot of boiling water is less work to cook at clean. But on the other hand we wouldn't have this gem of a video
Growing up, my Dad made hot dogs using his “hot dogger” and I hated them...they always tasted metallic/electrical fire-ish. Brings back memories seeing this video! Thanks Tyler.
Bruh, puts the hot dogs in the “new” hot dog cooker, “something about that just doesn’t feel right”... but putting ranch on a hotdog does feel right...???
The on and off for the vintage hot dog cooker is putting the lid on and off of the base, it's not as safe as unplugging it but that's the intended way. If I'm not mistaken, that's what was told to me by an old time that had one
Its probably some sort of weird chemical reaction happening in that old hotdog cooker between the metal prongs, electricity and acidic assorted chemical filled juices inside the hotdogs
Ahh, the Hot Dogger. It can help to polish the spikes to keep them a little smoother especially when you don't know the history of it. I've found the taste resembles a boiled or microwaved hot dog because it doesn't quite brown the exterior any. You'll be the life (and maybe death) of the party with one of these!
We had a Hotdogger when I was a kid, though I don't recall ours having prongs on it or dirty spots. Then again...I'm OLD, so I might not remember right. Anyway, they tasted fine to us! I think they upgraded the machine over several years, because I remember getting one just after I was married the first time, and it worked great too, but was different.
Also you now have a new series. “Will it hot dogger” and test different things to see if they work. Like bananas / cheese strings twizzlers / slim Jims. Experiment with time limits too. Like put a single hotdog on until it explodes lol. All different videos to grow your channel and yes unfortunately for you, you will have to try and eat the experiments each time. That’s the fun part for us. You could really be in for a winner on this one.
I'm pretty sure the black seen in the hot dog from the first machines actually the initial contact points for the current. Meaning it got really toasty and started to electrically burn it.
