I've been a meat dept manager for over 20 years and I can say that ALL hot dogs are cooked, unless otherwise stated. I've never seen a raw hot dog. What he should have said is you should cook thoroughly to kill any potential contaminants.
In the 80's we ate hotdogs straight from the fridge or freezer. I know it sounds gross but my siblings, cousins, neighbors and myself all lived. We also all survived drinking from the hose.😂
Same! And no seat belts, riding 4 ppl in the front seat of pickup trucks, and standing up riding in the truck beds, and cribs and playpen with bars far enough apart to fit a tiny head thru, painted with lead paint!
My mom was in the hospital once and my dad was in charge of 4 kids and meals. He decided to make us eggs and sausage for breakfast but didn't even know he used hot dogs for the sausage! Lol we loved it! ☺️👍
That's a good one for the struggle. Also got a lot of beanie weenies or macaroni cheese mix loved it is as much as any eight-year-old could love something!
I still eat hot dogs cut up and fried with eggs, got it from my Dad also. Tear up pieces of bread and toast in a skillet, fry hot dogs pieces in same skillet with the bread, butter, pour in beaten eggs and make just like you would soft scrambled eggs, add a little cheese if you like and throw it under a broiler for a couple minutes. It's basically a hot dog frittata. A simple version is to just add eggs to the fried hot dog pieces in a small skillet and flip for over med eggs, makes a good sandwich on toast.
@@johnsheetz6639 Do you remember Ghetto Spaghetti? Simply spaghetti with chopped hot dogs and any tomato sauce. Back in the 70s it was Armour Hot Dogs which for a snack you could eat them raw. But at the state institutions I grew up in and the rare weekend visit home this is what was given to us from time to time. To gild the lily we of course put Parmesan cheese on top.
Yes, hot dogs are definitely cooked. I know because I operated the smokehouse for Cudahy Foods in Atlanta, GA back in the '70's. The cooking process for our average-sized hot dogs was for an hour and fifty minutes. The first 20 minutes of the process, the dogs were cooked at 120 degrees. Then, they were automized with liquid smoke at room temperature for 20 minutes. After the dogs were darkened and flavored with the smoke, they cooked for 20 minutes at 140 degrees. The next 20 minutes, they were cooked at 160 degrees. And the next 20 minutes, they cooked at 180 degrees. At that point, they were checked with thermometers by Moi and a government inspector to see if they had reached 160 degrees on the inside of the hot dog. If so, they were rinsed for 10 minutes, weighed, combined on three tree racks, and stored in the blast freezer. Hot dogs bin vedy vedy good to me. 🙂
@@FOGOcharcoal Thanks, FOGO! Loved the contest! I just wished we had your top two contenders here in the Southeast. They'll probably be here soon, now that you're spreadin' the word. 🙂
I grew up on boiled Sabrett's from the pushcarts around New York. They are usually the natural casing dogs, they have a great snap. Same with Nathan's natural casing. I don't care for skinless hot dogs. Another great local dog is Thumann's. You find them a lot at the Jersey shore, usually grilled or deep fried.
Yes dirty water dog, with sauerkraut…..oh and mustard…..no onions….I took my husband to New York, showed him my childhood home, gave him traditional lunch. Hot dod and an orange soda
Koegel's is the best. In fact, I lived in Michigan, but moved to another state, and couldn't get Koegle's. Every time I went home to visit, I'd stock up. Pretty soon, everyone I knew would ask me to bring them a few packs too. Best damned hot dog I've ever eaten. Compared to Kogel's, Nathan's is like eating your tongue.
Kent county food's, (Gand Rapids Mi) dog's/sausages sold under GFS and other brand's are as good as Koegel, it's all about that snap. They also make store brand's like Der Wienerschnitzel in Cali. If you boil try this, put dog/sausage/brats in cold water. Bring to a rolling boil, turn off at let sit 6 mins. Plumps and enhances them.
When I first started working in New York City in the early 70’s - I lived in Lyndhurst NJ and took the Erie Lackawanna to Hoboken to catch PATH to the Financial District. On the way home at night we arrived at Hoboken on PATH and walked up the stairs to the trains. Just as we got to the top of the stairs and turned right to catch the trains we would line up at the carry out window of the bar for a hot dog and a can of beer. The dogs were fried Schickhaus franks and in addition to normal condiments they had the tastiest hot pepper relish. Fantastic! The beer was Rheingold! What a memory!!
I absolutely LOVE this story. I grew up in Hauppauge and would go to work with my Dad in Manhattan when he worked Saturdays. Right outside his building on Varick St there was a Sabrett hot dog stand that may have been the main reason that I liked going to work with him so much.
@@michaelmartinez9382 Companies usually have a Where to Buy section on their website. If not, call or email Sabrett's customer service. I'm sure they an tell you. Good luck..
Any love for Koegels (skinless or vienna) out there? I had never tried them but ordered a bunch from Amazon. Very good. Armour used to make a decent dog but I have not seen them in a while.
Most hot dogs ARE fully cooked, and completely edible straight from the package. This was a great test. Made me VERY hungry!!! If I can find them, I will have to try Sabrett's, your "winner". I personally love all hot dogs, too, some just more than others. NATHAN'S is far and away my favorite, do not care much for Sahlen's, although I have easy access to them from Gordon"s. Here in Michigan, Dearborn brand, Koegel's brand, and Winter's brand are 3 of most people's top-runners. There are many other prominent sausage makers here in MI. Nathan's wasn't purveyed around here much before 2000, but has attained my "most craved hot dog" status - Lol Thanks for the tasting test, Sabrett's it is!! Next on the list
Would be a kicker to include those Costco All Beef Dogs in there. They have a deep beefy flavor that is hard to match although the Nathans WITH all natural casings are darn good too. Our go to dog are the Hebrew National mainly because they are always on our local stores shelves. We prefer dogs with the natural casings but they seem to be a rare item in most stores although the Hoffy Hollywood Original Beef Frankfurters all natural casings are usually available. I like your testing method...
I was rooting for the Sabrettes from the get go. I love a sabrettt hot dog in Natural casing - not skinless. boiled in water just like the dirty water hot dog carts in New York. The pop when you bite into them. They have such a beautiful flavor to them. Occasionally my wife buys whatever is on sale but they are either sabrette , Nathan’s , boars head or Hebrew national -that’s it.
100% agreed!! Sabrett dirty water dogs off the hot dog cart are the best!! I moved out of NJ in 2009, and now live in NC. The only thing I miss about NJ are the beaches and the Sabrett dirty water dogs! Oh, and the hand tossed pizzas!!

Since you could identify many of the hotdogs by how they fit into the bun, to be less influenced, try a piece of hotdog from each, cut to the same size in the middle of the bun.
@@lizard944 He cooked them, so he could guess the brands by their size and grill marks. The test should have been done with a blindfold and a two inch piece of dog with no bun.

I live in Louisiana and my favorite to eat on a bun is grilled smoked boudain! But you guys have sure made me hungry for a good hotdog. The only ones that I have had out of your taste test are Nathan’s and Oscar Mayer. I have never even seen the others in my area the Hebrew National. Well done though! I enjoyed your video!
@@GoLakers3900 I’m unsure about other parishes. Since I saw this video, I’m only concerned with trying to find the top three in this test. I trust that this man knows what he’s talking about. I know that I like Nathan’s but I would sure like to taste the other two so I’ll keep looking. Most people around here prefer sausage on a bun or boudain. Once you’ve had it it’s hard to even want something else. But I have always loved a good hot dog!

I'm from the Buffalo area, Sahlen's used to be amazing back when they were a regional brand. Their quality has taken a massive nosedive since they've expanded.
From Flint Michigan, and the BEST!!! (Don't worry, they've ALWAYS had a separate water supply from that of the infamous Flint Water debacle) Their entire product line is outstanding.
I live in Florida but every year I fly home and bring back at least $100 worth of koegels anybody who has ever had one says they're the best the viennas are we called Snap dogs there is a koegels truck that travels up and down i75 and comes close to where we live every year but the prices are about double what you can get in the store like Meijer's my friend from Chicago always said his favorite was Vienna but now that he had koegel he said they're better
I’ve had most of these hot dogs however any review that doesn’t include Vienna Beef is missing a market leader. On the other hand Sahlen’s recently showed up in our local grocer. Very impressed.
@@FOGOcharcoal a VB skinless 8/1 probably a good option. I don’t think many natural casing dogs do as well in the grill or chared. Still, nice presentation. 👍

@@tubebubereboot6873 Sabrett's are hard to find in my area, but worth the search. I got turned onto them by a street vendor who was originally from New York and only sold Sabrett's.
i agree Sabrett is the best, especially when its topped New York style with Sabrett cooked onions, mustard and sauerkraut. The natural casing Sabretts are the best but harder to find, most the ones found in the grocery store are skinless Sabretts.
I tried Sahlen’s for the first time about six months ago. Best hot dog I have ever had. I have not bought any other brand since. I am a Sahlen’s apologist now.
I just bought Sabrett which I grilled. It is said to be #1 on goggle. I'll have to try Sahlens next. Hot dogs now a days just don't taste like they use to. Great show.
I knew that the Sabrett's would be your #1 pick. I've only had them one time, back in 1981. They were the best hotdog I have ever had. If I knew where to get them here, that would be the dog I pick.
I live in Texas and I buy them online through their distributor Stina Provisions. They have a website. They shipped from NYC and arrived in great shape!!
My go to Dog is the Jumbo Hebrew Nationals followed by the mighty Sabrett. I'll have to see if I can find them Sahlens as I've never tried them before. Great review..thanks and Happy Independence Day ;)
Really good and colorful segment. I would like for you to do one on natural casing hot dogs. IMHO they kick ass versus regular hot dogs. Sabrett, Nathans, Boars head, etc. are all good and are far superior than their manufactured (and subsequently stripped) casing hot dogs. They actually split on the grill and have a snap when you bite into them.
I’m from NY and you are correct Kevin. Other brands mostly from flyover territories are like and taste like baloney. Of course he was where tropical trees are in the background so that’s probably why the tester guy was surprised.
@@lescobrandon3047 Likewise, am from NY too. Born in Brooklyn, grew up in Queens and now live in Nassau county. Some of the best hot dogs in the nation are right where we live
@@kevin7151 - Me too, kinda! Born in Manhattan, raised in Brooklyn and live since 1946 in Nassau County. from the web: “What origin does the word hot dog come from? The term “hot dog” was coined in 1901 in New York City at the Polo Grounds, home field at various times for both the New York Yankees and the Giants. On a chilly April day, concessionaire Harry Stevens (the company he founded is still in business) was losing money trying to sell ice cream and cold soda.
Agree! I lived in Syracuse for nearly 5 years, and Zweigle's hot dogs were the absolute best for me, too. I received so many compliments on the hotdogs during cookouts and everyone wanted to know what brand they were so they could buy them too.
A friend had to go to hot dog school before he could become a Boy Scout leader. He told me to always remember that grain expands when you cook it and meat shrinks. So hot dogs that plump when you cook them are grain. I can buy grain at the feed store much cheaper than in a package of hot dogs.
I prefer beef hotdogs, I normally get Ballpark or sometimes Oscar Mayer. I’ve tried Nathans and Hebrew National which are good but I think overly spicy and I get tired of them and always return to Ballpark (beef) hotdogs. I’ll have to try Sahlen’s if the local supermarket carries it.
The best for my money are Thurmann's here in NJ. I haven't seen them out west so I don't know how widespread they are. They are delicious steamed. Then marked up on the grill or plancha. Great snap with natural casings on just a boil or steam.
Sabrett's is definitely the best! Anyway you want to cook 'em. Boiled/steamed, grilled, split and fried in a pan, or even deep fat fried. The crunch of the skin, the super flavor, and the fact that they fill the length of a bun are all great traits for this winner. Try it with a Vidalia onion relish or Sabrett's onions in tomato sauce.
Snap-O-Razzo hotdogs are the best but a bit expensive with shipping, but I highly recommend them. A nice treat every once in a while. As for supermarket dogs, Natural Casing Sabrett's are hard to beat. Nathan's Bigger than the Bun is a very close second.
The late Howard Johnson’s Restaurant chain had an exclusive hotdog called a Frankfurt and/or Frankfurter. It was featured as being grilled in butter, and then placed into a fabulous formed grilled in butter bun! I have been unsuccessful in ascertaining the actual recipe for this iconic American hotdog. I consider this a true loss.
@@zayneunderwood1488 I never heard it called Ho Joe's until the 1970s . I'm 70 so your grand PA and grand MA aren't very old . The business is defunk as far as I know so it's not too often mentioned . Ho Joe's or Howard Johnson
Buns can be improved upon by covering with damp paper towel and micrwaved for 20-30 seconds to moisten/soften up. Otherwise slathered with butter and given light browning/char on grill.
Boars head , Hebrew national, sorbets, and Nathan’s for me. Boars head with the skins, or snappers as we called them are great on a really good chili dog.
My favorite is Sahlen's beef and pork with natural casing. Boiled. Single stripe of yellow mustard. They snap like a slim jim when you bite into them. When I was a kid we lived in Michigan and there was this little local meatpacking plant run by a couple of old Polish guys. Most grocery stores around there carried their hot dogs. Sahlen's is the most like those magical dogs of my youth.
Right. I think that hot dogs are more of a delivery system than an entree. Chili, mustard, peppers and onions, what have you, all go into the magic of hot dogs. (Never ketchup)
@@imtheboss1826 I'm funny about dogs...if I have the beef/pork Sahlen's I want just the single stripe of mustard. If I have the all-beef ones, I'll turn those into monstrous dragged-through-the-garden Chicago dogs. Anything goes with other dogs. A guilty pleasure of mine is a cheap dog with a ton of VIDALIA (that's important) onions, ketchup, and mayo. That's pretty much the only time I let ketchup near a hotdog. Or mayo. The first time I fed my daughter a Chicago dog (she was about 4) she LOOKED at the pile of stuff on her plate and said "I like a wienie on my hotdog". I told her "Start digging - it's in there!"
Hot dogs are always precooked, you eat them right out of the package, been doing it ever since I was a kid and I'm 65. This man just went way down on the credibility list. Moms have been handing children and toddlers weenies straight out of the package to shut them up since the beginning of hot dog time. I can't believe you said that they are not pretty cooked.
The info I was given was incorrect. It should have been that although MOST are precooked, the FDA recommends fully cooking them again before consuming them.
They are precooked. BIL worked in a 'factory' that made various sausages and hotdogs. Hot dogs start out blue and they know the hotdogs are cooked when they turn red. Kind of like the tape on surgical kits that has the black strips when the kits reach the right temp when sterilized.
Nathan's have been our go to hotdogs for years but now I'm definitely going to be trying other two in your top three for sure. If I can find them. Thanks for the info.
The last time I bought Hebrew National I thought I had dropped one and lost it between the kitchen and the BBQ. Nope they downsized the package from 7 to 6.I haven't bought them since. It's called 'SHRINKFLATION'.
Thoroughly enjoyed this video Capt. Ron. Never heard of Sabretts but will definitely try them. Being born and raised in Buffalo, NY we are very fond of our Sahlens hot dogs. However, I have recently been introduced to Hoffman's from Syracuse, NY....omg a must try dog!
I love hot dogs! I have had all of the hot dogs tested, as well. My favorite, by far, is the Sahlens! Has a more hearty flavor and the snap of the skin is awesome! I like mine cooked a little darker than what was cooked on the video but to each their own. Sahlen's can be found at Wegmans, Publix, and Harris Teeter. My least favorite is the Hebrew National. It tastes like you took in a mouthful of ocean water.
Bill, after reading your comment, i fell there is a good chance that we are related. LOL! (except for the Hebrew National part) We actually used Sahlens in out part II to this video.
@@manuelester7420 Seriously? So if I don't like my dogs burned to a crisp black I would suppose that would make Racist in your screwy eyes... And yes, Hebrew national dogs are the worst I ever had. If you like salt on a bun than go for it.

Of these brands, I have only heard of 4 of these. Hebrew national is my go to. I really like the Sam’s club brand dogs too, but they taste a bit more like a polish dog.
Sahlens makes a damn good hotdog so no surprise it’s 2nd. I’m a little surprised they did so well skinless because they are truly known for that wonderful charred casing
The Sabrett in the casing is the classic "Dirty Water Dog" of NYC. Has a good snap and firm texture even after sitting in the steamer awhile, and I think they use more garlic in the seasoning that gives them that distinctive taste.
I was a meat department manager back before Kroger screwed up the industry and I got to tell you. The Sabrett’s are the highest quality dog in the market. Can’t beat them. Hebrew National is a close second if you like a little more spice. Just my opinion.
Of all of the brands that I have had, my top three (in no particular order, since they are all good) are Hoffmans (Central NY), Sahlens (Western NY) and Koegels (Flint MI). Koegels make the best Flint style coney island hot dogs, and Hoffmans release the least amount of fat when cooked (they seem to be meatier). Lately, it's been Sahlens mostly because they are a bit less expensive than Hoffmans, and Koegels are not found here in TN.
@@westernnyliving2515, I haven't had those, but I expect that they are similar to Hoffman's Snappy Grillers (white hot dog), which are my favorite. Now I'm hungry!
I was really hoping you'd mention texture. Too many dogs offer little to no resistance when bitten, and for me that's a big detractor. I like to feel I'm eating meat, not tofu.
In Rochester they call hot dogs "hots" You can buy red ones or white ones. The red hots use a courser grind of beef, thus a different texture than most other hot dogs.
Great video Ron! Sabrett's has always been my favorite especially when I have some of their "Onions in Sauce" to top them with. Have to say that I recently put some Nathan's 1/4 pound dogs on my egg and thought they were a bit better.
Western NY dogs are usually the best if you AX me - Sahlens, Buffalo Hoffmans, Syracuse Zweigels, Rochester. I thought Sahlen's and Sabrett's are very similar - Sahlen's a bit saltier... gimme your take on Zweigles pork hots... this is a king ingredient to the Nick Tahoe's Garbage Plate.

The best hot dogs are made by Vienna Beef they also make an Italian beef that is excellent. These can be found in and around the Chicagoland area at many eaterys and street vendors. Most vendors do not cook 'em on a grill but steam them and the buns also get steamed. I think that's one of the keys to making them so delicious.

You should try Black Bear beef franks. They’re a bit bigger and different than the bigger brand hotdogs and they snap when you bite into them. They’re all bundled together in the packaging like they’re from a deli and connected at the ends. Good stuff. Out of the ones on your list, I think I like Sabrett the best, then Hebrew National and then Nathan’s, but there’s also a couple on here I’ve never tried.
That snap is because they have a natural casing. Nathan’s also makes hot dogs like that although these he has in this video are not. I prefer the natural casing also.

Thanks for the taste testing but.. I'm not a fan of "Skinless" hotdogs. (My personal preference). I like the "snap" of the natural casing. My favorite commercially produced dog is made by Pearl in Randolph MA. The thing that I like about them is that they come in various sizes: 8 / lb. , 4 / lb. , 2 / lb., and an artery clogging ONE pound. (My fave is the 4 / lb. as it gives me more meat than bun). What was missing from your taste test were Vienna brand all beef hot dogs and Hoffy brand beef hot dogs. I had a hot dog at a friends house a month ago, it was an Oscar Mayer Angus beef hot dog, it was surprisingly good. Nathan's skinless and natural casing hot dogs taste different from each other. Sabrett, Vienna, Hoffy's, Nathan's and Boar's head all offer a natural casing hot dog version of their product.
Yeah I have a feeling the one in this video that he said tasted like bologna was the Oscar Meyer. He said they were all beef but Oscar Meyer wieners are made with pork, chicken and beef. The supposed all beef is labeled beef franks. The Angus beef are fairly good. The reality is most hot dogs are made from all sorts of cuts. From head, feet, liver, fatty tissue, snout, lips, eyes, brain and so on.
Hoffy brand dogs are fillers and flavor. OM is ok but for my money, sorta bland. Just an opinion. By the way anymore. It’s a mad cow thing. They had to stop that in 1996-97. All brains are used as scape meats for make ups and soaps.
Next time, be sure to try Zweigle's hot dogs. They are the best in my opinion, but I grew up on them so I am partial. Seriously, try them next time. Cheers!
Watching this, I want to be invited over for lunch immediately. “Dogs” are so good grilled! Best on a stick over an open camp fire in my opinion. Some of the best dogs I’ve had were the wrinkled kind. Not sure why. I brown mine briefly in a pan then toss into boiling water. I get that char skin but the boiling helps to reduce too much richness especially if going condiment free. Fun vid! Some brands I haven’t heard of too. Happy summer hot dogging everyone! ☀️
I grew up on Oscar Meyer (they're great in mac-n-cheese) and they were our family's go to frank, but later on I discovered Nathan's and I'm quite pleased. I've always wanted to try Sabrett's, but I don't know where to find them in my area. The adventure begins!
All we had as kids were Oscar Meyer franks and for decades I thought that's what hotdogs all tasted like. It's a very unique flavor. However, one all-beef frank later, I realized there was a world of difference. Back to Oscar Meyer, my father used to make something he called Italian hotdogs which were Oscar Meyer franks cut up and cooked in oil with potatoes and onions. After eating this so many times (we were a family of seven on a low income), I became nauseated by them. We used to cook hotdogs over a flame in the fireplace, too. All OM. I'm sure we had to have had them with baked beans and with macaroni and cheese somewhere along the road.

Sadly, here in the west, I have never seen Sahlen's, Sabrette's or Boar's head at any supermarket. I like Hebrew national, but find them too salty. In fact, I find pretty much all hot dogs too salty. Nathan's, Oscar Meyer both seem okay to me (I expected more from Nathan's when I first saw them) and Ball park seem like generic hot dogs, not too exciting. We have "Dodger dogs" which are longer, but still pretty meh. To reduce the salt, I often boil them, but if I'm in the mood to grill them, I may soak them a couple hours first, to leach out some of the salt. I know hot dogs should have lots of flavor and should be simple, so this annoys me a bit. My favorite would probably be the ones with the least salt.
I gotta agree that Hebrew national hot dogs are too salty! It’s not bad if you’re just eating one, but i usually eat 3-4 of the normal size ones as a meal every once in a long while.

You are 100% correct Brake. My bad...
Usually Listeria
I figured the guy was wrong I sorta knew all hotdogs are cooked.
if they weren't cooked they would come back to life during shipping.
Is Brake your real name?
In the 80's we ate hotdogs straight from the fridge or freezer. I know it sounds gross but my siblings, cousins, neighbors and myself all lived. We also all survived drinking from the hose.😂
drinking from the hose never tasted good.
Same! And no seat belts, riding 4 ppl in the front seat of pickup trucks, and standing up riding in the truck beds, and cribs and playpen with bars far enough apart to fit a tiny head thru, painted with lead paint!

Yup, run in dripping wet from the sprinkler or kiddy pool.grab one and some grape coolaid and run back out to run in the sprinkler
Sure, probably rode a bike with no helmet too....LOL
My mom was in the hospital once and my dad was in charge of 4 kids and meals. He decided to make us eggs and sausage for breakfast but didn't even know he used hot dogs for the sausage! Lol we loved it! ☺️👍
Ha!!! That is a great story!!!
Back in the 70s

Miller's from my local Safeway store in Napa, CA are my favorite. Thanks for the video!

Yep, all of those brands come fully cooked.
They are baloney shaped like hotdogs
I grew up on boiled Sabrett's from the pushcarts around New York. They are usually the natural casing dogs, they have a great snap. Same with Nathan's natural casing. I don't care for skinless hot dogs. Another great local dog is Thumann's. You find them a lot at the Jersey shore, usually grilled or deep fried.
Yes sir, dirty water dogs are the bomb. I've had the deep fried Jersey dogs too....
Yes dirty water dog, with sauerkraut…..oh and mustard…..no onions….I took my husband to New York, showed him my childhood home, gave him traditional lunch. Hot dod and an orange soda
Thanks for the tip!
I live in upstate NY and we have Hoffmanns from Syracuse! the snappy grillers white spicy dogs and the skinless weiners are the best around up here!
I forgot about Thumans great hot dog and another tasty dog is Bests.
No Chicago or Michigan hot dogs? Unforgivable! Nothing like a Vienna or a good Koegel's!
Koegel's pickled bologna is amazing as well.
Ok, I just moved to Michigan 2yrs ago and have never tried those. I will have to get some this week.
Thank you cause that's the only reason why I even clicked on this one... it's koegel or I'm good ahh I already ate before I showed up...

Nathan's wasn't purveyed around here much before 2000, but has attained my "most craved hot dog" status - Lol
Thanks for the tasting test, Sabrett's it is!! Next on the list
I agree about Nathan's. When I was younger I remember my first Chicago Dog. I immediately tasted the difference. My personal favorite hands down.
I don't know if you can get Sabrets in AZ do you?
I'm with you, Bob. Nathan's 1/4 pound hotdogs are my favorite.
Sabretts are amazing.
Wait, so are you saying you don't have Nathans nearby? They're sold all over south east Michigan.
Thank you for mentioning Costco's "Kirkland Beef Franks" they are THE BOMB. And the dinner ones are the jumbo franks they sell in their food court.
Oh, I know, they are delicious!
Without a doubt, my favorite dog. They hav great flavor and a nice snap.
I said the EXACT same thing👍👍👍👍
I love Costco hot dogs!
Here on the west coast it’s Casper’s hot dogs. “The dog that snaps back.” In Northern California you can buy them at Costco.
Hey Vic, make sure to check out next weeks video, we actually boiled some dogs.
As kid growing up in nyc in the 80s I loved sabrett
100% agreed!! Sabrett dirty water dogs off the hot dog cart are the best!! I moved out of NJ in 2009, and now live in NC. The only thing I miss about NJ are the beaches and the Sabrett dirty water dogs! Oh, and the hand tossed pizzas!!

The crunch of the skin, the super flavor, and the fact that they fill the length of a bun are all great traits for this winner. Try it with a Vidalia onion relish or Sabrett's onions in tomato sauce.

I don't eat hot dogs much, but when I did, it was NATHAN'S or bust!
The Natural Casing Nathan's dogs are what mother nature intended us to eat! @@riverman837
The last time I bought Hebrew National I thought I had dropped one and lost it between the kitchen and the BBQ. Nope they downsized the package from 7 to 6.I haven't bought them since. It's called 'SHRINKFLATION'.
That's the " Hebrew " doing his job !😂
They’re nasty anyway with lots of bone chips in them 🤢🤮
@@joanbelmont5450 They're hot dogs, what did you expect Filet Mignon ?
@@wolfgangweimer737 lol
And the buns are always packaged x8. What the heck?
Thoroughly enjoyed this video Capt. Ron. Never heard of Sabretts but will definitely try them. Being born and raised in Buffalo, NY we are very fond of our Sahlens hot dogs. However, I have recently been introduced to Hoffman's from Syracuse, NY....omg a must try dog!
Right on!
I see them all over New York City. Vendors sell them in Central Park. At least they did in 2017 when last I visited.
@@manuelester7420 Wait--are you calling me anti-Semitic because I dislike the Hebrew national hot dogs? Can't tell if serious...
Good to know. Next time I come to the U.S. I’ll give them a try.
Applegate organic hot dogs are also really good.
@@manuelester7420 Seriously? So if I don't like my dogs burned to a crisp black I would suppose that would make Racist in your screwy eyes... And yes, Hebrew national dogs are the worst I ever had. If you like salt on a bun than go for it.
Of all the brands he chose, I have only had Hebrew national and i loved it, so i can only imagine what the rest are like. Wish we could get those up here in Canada, we used too but Loblaws cornered the market.
If you ever get to the states, try them out!
Whats them skinny hot dogs you got in Southern Quebec. They are good.
My family and me prefer Hebrew and Johnsonville Brats, Jalapeño and Cheddar
How come you don’t have jumbo franks. Years ago we used to slice them or put them in boiling water man o man was that good?
Of these brands, I have only heard of 4 of these. Hebrew national is my go to. I really like the Sam’s club brand dogs too, but they taste a bit more like a polish dog.
Hot dogs having been one of my favorite foods since childhood, this is the video I did not know I needed.
LOL, I am just glad we could fill that spot...
Sahlens makes a damn good hotdog so no surprise it’s 2nd. I’m a little surprised they did so well skinless because they are truly known for that wonderful charred casing
A real Sahlen’s is pork and snaps because of the casing. You gotta try them!
So true
Zweigles hands down best on the planet still made like when founded in 1880 ... Sahlens is not even a close 2nd.
Those three are all great choices, can't go wrong!
zweigals in Rochester. People from Buffalo sometimes haven't heard of the white dogs, I only buy them.
@@westernnyliving2515, I haven't had those, but I expect that they are similar to Hoffman's Snappy Grillers (white hot dog), which are my favorite. Now I'm hungry!
@@westernnyliving2515 Not many people know about zweigles. We need to educate them as they blow Hoffmann's out of the water.
I was really hoping you'd mention texture. Too many dogs offer little to no resistance when bitten, and for me that's a big detractor. I like to feel I'm eating meat, not tofu.
Sushi has a nice snap in them.
Gotta love the snap
Koegels hot dogs have that snap.
Yeah the cheap dogs are spongy as well as too salty.
I wouldn't say no to either. I made another video with NY vs Chicago. Sabrett with onion sauce, kraut and spicy mustard....yum!!!
Ever try the Sam's Club 1/4 pound hot dogs? My favorite....great taste.
So good!
I like Hebrew National now since Publix carries them for a good price in bulk. I am going to try Sabrett's side by side.
Nice! Let me know what results you come up with.
Mmmm Garbage plate.... finally someone who speaks my language
I'm in 100% agreement, and would add Wardynski and Glasier. Growing up in buffalo with family all over NYS, I've become quite the tube steak snob.
@@brettc.4799 My father in law use to eat Glaziers. I have yet to try one due to the red dye they use. But I hear they are amazing.
@@wendull811 having relatives in mallone, I grew up on glaziers, and it truly is a hot dog worth the hype. The food coloring is only used on the casing before being stuffed, and after being washed, it's more like a stained casing. The interior portion is exactly the color you'd expect, with a snap unrivaled by ANY other dog!
@@brettc.4799 My father in law grew up near mallone. I want to say cherabusko. (Spelled it wrong I'm sure) That is how I found out about them. His family still lives up that way.
Here's our Vienna Beef video just for you! ruclips.net/video/eJcvfCzkJRc/видео.html
@@FOGOcharcoal Another item that you were/are able to get at these vendors that people seem to like that go with eating these dogs are Tom - Tom tamales which are also steamed in their wrapper then when unwrapped a little salt and mustard or have what they call a mother-in-law the tamale topped with chili and onions. Delicious !
Which one has the least amount of salt I camaro slot of salt ,blood pressure issues?
Was surprised how much we enjoy the Sahlen boiled ham at the deli. Will need to try their dog.
Favorite dog for us is Hoffmann outta Central/Western NY.
Sahlens natural casing weiners are the best hot dogs on Earth. None of the others can compare!
Come to Rochester NY. Go to wegmans and get some pop open zweigles. Be the best move of your life when it comes to hot dogs.
@@wendull811 Have family around Camilus and we all love Wegmans. Will try next time we visit!! THANKS!
I tried a brand for the first time this week....Kayen or Kayem....and by far I love these. They're not salty. They don't taste like preservatives. There's no aftertaste. The casing gives that perfect crunch. I love them. A package was only $3 and I'm going back to buy many for the freezer. Anyone else try them?
I have not but I will certainly look for them
You should try Black Bear beef franks.
I've never heard of FOGO charcoal. where is it sold?
I'm guessing BGE is a sponsor.
BGE is definitely not a sponsor but I (Cptnron302) am a member of their ambassador team. FOGO is available in Ace Hardware stores, Home Depot, and most places where BGE's and other grills are sold. You can also order on our website, fogocharcoal.com. Spend $40 and get free shipping.
(AVAILABLE BY ONLINE ORDER)
I do love me a good snap on my hot dogs too my friend!
@@FOGOcharcoal what's amazing is Sahlens coming in 2nd in their skinless version. being from Buffalo I've had them my entire life and the very best part is actually the casing, I can honestly say I've never had a skinless Sahlens in my 49 years because, why would you?? if you do the skin on version it would blow the others away
Keogels hotdogs are the best, Kayhem old Tyme hotdogs come in a close second. Both wildly expensive but well worth the price.
I enjoy Keogels and have never tried Kayhem Old Thyme Hotdogs. I put them on the list to try.
You have to get the Nathan’s or Sabretts in their natural casing . Those are the best. Much better than the skinless. Take care from a former Springs resident.
Yep, I agree about the casings. Us C Springs peeps gotta stick together.
Mostly what I see in stores is Oscar Meyers and ball park. Never heard of the 3 you rated highest.
My guesses would be Nathan's and Hebrew National. Now to watch and learn!!🌞
Awesome Thanks!!! Not sure is Sabretes is available in AZ, or even Sahleens, yet I will look for them!!👏
I agree Nathan’s and Sabrett hot dogs are the best in my opinion.
We have always loved Sabrett--there was a little stand in the mall in South Plainfield mall that was Sabrett, & a hd cart here in New Milford, CT that served Sabrett dogs. Not aware of Sahlen. My wife is from Western NY (Niagara Falls area) and she loves the Wardynski hot dogs & balogna. We'll have to order some Sahlen next time we order Wardynski.
Thats great Roger, I'll have to look into Wardynski, I've not heard of them!
HUMMELS, New Haven....
Sabrett, Vienna, Hoffy's, Nathan's and Boar's head all offer a natural casing hot dog version of their product.
ruclips.net/video/eJcvfCzkJRc/видео.html
Cheers!
They are definitely a good dog
Watching this, I want to be invited over for lunch immediately. “Dogs” are so good grilled! Best on a stick over an open camp fire in my opinion. Some of the best dogs I’ve had were the wrinkled kind. Not sure why. I brown mine briefly in a pan then toss into boiling water. I get that char skin but the boiling helps to reduce too much richness especially if going condiment free.
Fun vid! Some brands I haven’t heard of too. Happy summer hot dogging everyone! ☀️
Have you tried "overcooking" them on a weenie walker? Once they are wrinkled they are delicious!
You boil your hot dogs? You've been living on a camp site a little too long. You don't boil hot dogs, you grill them.
If you ever find yourself in Coral Springs, Fl, you are invited!
Great review, we all love hot dogs but some are more flavor and taste better than others. Thanks for the review.
Thanks for watching!
I don't like Sabretts as much. They use that fake smoke flavoring and don't have that crunch when you bite into them.
I work there don't eat them
Oscar Meyer is the best too me,I’ve tried Nathan’s,don’t like them, but I don’t like garlic and Nathan’s seems to have too much garlic for me.
@@kyzor-sosay6087 don't eat Oscar Mayer hot dogs nasty plant and full of nitrates. Causes cancer.
Would be good to let the viewers know which one you are eating.
Also, would like to know the ranki ranking of all of them.
Best tasting dogs in our area are John F Martin cheese dogs. From Lancaster PA. Crisp em on the grill and then carmelize the sauce, serve on a grilled roll. Fantastic.
