It goes to show that making homemade chill is the best route to go.
Craig ! First to make some sense .
I totally agree with you there! Better to go with lean fresh mince and pinto beans. Really not a fan of frozen mince, I just don't like the texture. I also prefer pinto beans over kidney beans.
Well you know some people don’t got the time to make it like you do some of us are busy working smh
For sure
Always
When I was on a budget attending college, I'd get two dinners out of one can of Chili with beans by adding a can of kidney or pinto beans to stretch it into two big bowls for two night's dinners. Add a couple slices of garlic bread and a salad and you're good to go. Too bad he didn't add Denison's Chili with beans to his list, because it's really good, IMO.
I like putting mine over a baked potato so you get a couple meals out of it too :)
🙏✊💪
Hey, What Does IMO Mean?
@@jonikaredwine4861 there's also the IMHO variation which means in my humble opinion
Staggs chili is worth a try, Costco has it. Lots of beef, ground beef and chunks.
Wolf was the best choice because it was their "homestyle" option with tomatoes, bell peppers and onion. I would suggest adding a can of fire roasted diced tomatoes to any can of store bought chili when cooking. I think you'll be pleased with the result.
Or fresh chopped tomatoes it kills a little bit of the can flavor
If you don’t like it why did you buy it in the first place?
@@larrymurphy3877 Because we're men and we're lazy!
I didn't know that wolf even made chili with beans. I think every can I've ever bought at heb was sans beans. I actually would buy a can of red kidney beans and diced some onions into it because it's a bit heavy them. I never liked Bell peppers in chili but onions definitely and shredded cheddar.
@@CtrlAltRetreat The original Wolf Chili sold to cowboys on the Chisholm Trail from a wagon did NOT have beans.
When you mixed it all I knew you were one of us. You truly are doing it for US THE PEOPLE
Hormel Chili used to be the best canned chili you could buy until they changed the recipe. It is obviously different now.
Still mine.

You need to try Stagg brand Chile. Loaded with meat, bell peppers, onions, and the beans are cooked to perfection.
Where do you find the brand Stagg??
Costco is a seller of Staff Chili
I think I've seen it at Walmart and Safeway as well
It is a Brand Restaurants and Deli's use when they serve chili but don't make it in house
Chili place I worked at was leaked as best they ever tasted but it was Staff Chili bought from Costco used for our. Chili and rice and Chili Dogs
Stagg google, Stagg
@@lindawinegar1311 I find, living behind the granola curtain in Kaliforniastan, Stagg's at most of the major retailers. For example, I see it at ralphs, which might be Kroger where you live. I am pretty sure I've seen it at Stater Bros also. I will add price seemed to be an indicator at least in this comparison, as to which one tastes better. I think Stagg will be in line with Wolf. So it's been 5 months since you asked where you could find it. Did you ever find it and more importantly, did you try it? What'd you think?
I loved the way Stagg Chili tasted when it came in the little boxes, but it almost always gave me terrible intestinal distress afterwards. It could have just been a personal problem. Wolf Brand Family Style has been my go-to canned chili for 17 years now.
Wolf Brand Chili with beans is my go-to canned chili. Hormel is the country's "#1 Chili" primarily because of the LONG recognition of the Hormel name and a much more extensive production and distribution network over time. It didn't hurt that they were originally a pork producer out of Chicago and sold 65% of their products, including Spam, to the US Government during WW II. Wolf Brand has pretty much always been JUST a chili producer.
Especially for Frito Pie!
Surprised he didn't add Stagg chili to the mix. The Wolf Brand has some good chili but I feel like Stagg makes the most "home style" tasting & looking chili. But I guess that is subjective because Cincinnati style chili is always more watery
Frito Pie with Wolf Brand - just like Hank Hill!

Beans. Competition chili doesn't have beans. Chili that people actually eat has beans.
My dad was from Texas and didn't like beans in his chili, so my mom added refried beans to extend it. He never knew.
Dave Dorris beans are my favourite part of chili! Your mom is a genius.
This is why we can't trust women.
That’s really smart I never thought of that...I don’t personally care for beans and get chili without beans but I can handle refried I’ll have to add that to my next batch!

Wolf Brand chili without beans makes a great chili topping for chili dogs. A little brown mustard on the bun, hot dog, chili, diced onions and cheddar cheese. Yum!
That is what we use it for - hot dog topping with chopped onions.
I am 59 and a born and raised in Texas Texan. I was raised on Wolf brand chili and it used to taste great, until they sold out to Con-Agra Foods. It used to have a sweetness to it that is now gone. I have just recently discovered that the taste is different between the 15oz can and the 19oz can with the chili from the 19oz can tasting much more like it used to. I buy no beans chili I want all the chili in that can as they can put in to it. I'll add a can of pork and beans, which is delicious and makes more meals.

Jalapenos
I am a native Texan. My go to canned chili is Wolf Brand. Used to be made in Ft. Worth,Tx. and their plant was next to the old stockyards. We always bought the all beef no bean style.
I knew Hank Hill was onto something when he recommended Wolf Brand Chili. I bought it once for my chili dogs for that reason and noted it had the highest fat content. The flavor was good but I could beat it on texture with chili con carne chubs. I add cumin, chili powder, garlic and onion powder to them all anyway, so flavor for chili dogs is not an issue. Fat=Flavor.
Wolf Brand specifically uses a blend of beef and pork to get that fat content, because they allege that the old school Chili Queens used lard as the cooking fat in their comals to brown the beef before they put it in the pot with the chilis, cumin, etc.
@@bradleyheck7204 Good info, thanks for sharing.
I just found Wolf Chili on the big island right here in Kona. At Walmart! I bought a can, and I am going to try it tonight to see how it compares to my favorite, Cattle Drive (Costco). Cross your fingers.

Ranch style (brand) beans. 3 cans of beans, 1 lb ground chuck, 1 lb breakfast sausage, 1 big can of rotel, 1 pack of chilli powder... brown the hamburger and sausage and drain. Add rotel and put on low heat to simmer for 15 minutes.... toss the beans in the crock pot, add the burger/sausage/rotel.... cook for at least 5 hours...
I always go for the Dennison's- one of the few I can find with no added sugar. Chili ain't supposed to have sugar!!
Yep! Dennison's for canned - no sugar, no frills, no BS, just REAL Chili! For Chili mix I always go with Carroll Shelby's Texas Brand Mix - BEST thing next to a scratch recipe.
@Jim Burnett yeah you put a little bit and it reduces any bitterness or sour, but the big food companies put in 15 grams of the sh1t in a can of chili, that's because they know we the consumer is addicted to sugar, and since like 1930 they've been adding more and more sugar to more and more things, when they see one product selling more than another simply because it has more sugar included, you pretty much have your business model right there and look what has happened...imagine that, sugar is in EV E R Y T H I N G. I'm addicted to it, you are too though, we all are 98% of us. Oh the healthcare industry has one hell of an insurance policy when all the food companies are pumping out sugar and trans fats that metabolize into sugars when ingested.

Hormel is the No 1 Selling chili , not the best tasting however throw in your favorites , cheese some cajon season and corn chips and lunch is served.
Stagg chili ... ? ... certainly sounds delicious.
I agree. To me opening any other brand smells just like a can of dog food. Stagg actually smells like human food before you cook it. Dynamite Hot is the one for me... and I add Tobasco Habenero to get more Habenero flavor in the chili.
Hormel no beans chili is way better. We use it more as a topping for things like chili dogs, chili nachos, and chili mac. The with beans is really bland.
You ever try chili tots with cheddar and swiss yummy
try the 'Spicy with beans', it's much better than the standard Hormel w/beans
Best part about Hormel NBC is the way my wife can't stand the smell as I'm heating it up. Edit: I don't know if chili beans still list this/include it in their recipes, but oats were a big part of canned chili.
Use oats in anything that involve hamburger!! Seriously!
Hamburger helper, tacos, burgers themselves, meatloaf, Salisbury steak, homemade chili, ANYTHING. Oats absorb beef juices and help stretch your supply of food while also keeping the beef extremely juicy and you'll never notice it except how much better it tastes.
I might have to try this
When I was little, my grandmother used to teach me how to, "doctor up," various canned or processed foods, in order to make them taste much more homemade and less processed. One of those doctoring methods included canned chili. Look for a brand with lower sodium (you can always add salt... it's much tougher to take it away) whose basic taste and texture you enjoy.
What do do with that little bit of hamburger meat you may have extra when you made those hamburgers last night? I have your answer:
1) Brown about 1/4 - 1/3 lb of raw hamburger... add in 1 - 2 tsps Cumin and Chili Power ... more or less to taste ... if you want to add a bit more flavor to that canned chili. Stir in evenly and finish browning the meat. When it is done, drain out the fats & remove the meat from the pan, set aside for later.
2) If you prefer onions, peppers or any other items in your chili ... Add a couple tsps of olive oil to the pan. Add in some diced yellow or white onions, peppers, carrots or whatever else you may desire and saute until they become lightly golden and translucent.
3) ***Return the meat to the pan and add in your can of favorite canned chili ... or two cans, if your prefer ... Mix well and turn the heat to low and simmer for about 15 - 20 minutes, stirring every few minutes.
*** If you like a little bit more kick to your chili, at the start of step 3, add in a bit of Cayenne Pepper to bring out a bit of that 2 - 3 alarm quality. However, if that just doesn't seem to have enough bite for your tastes, the secret to hotter/spicier Chili is not in adding more pepper - that just destroys the overall flavor - it's adding a hotter pepper that is in the same family. Replace the ground Cayenne with ground Habeñero, you will quickly bump it up to 5 alarm, real fast. Then again, if you have some twisted desire to shoot flames out of your backside for the next week or so, ghost peppers can bump it up to a 12!
*** You may decide to add in some onion or garlic powder as well. You're call.. your choice .. your taste buds.
Doctoring processed foods is how I've lived life.
When my wife makes a big tray of chili cheese dogs she uses wolf brand with no beans and it's the best, One time she tried to save a nickle and bought Hormel...never again! thanks for the review!
I've had Hormel it's actually not bad! I put onions and peppers into it and Tabasco too!!

I know you didn't have all the brands of chili, but Campbells Roadhouse Chunky Chili is the best chili for me. Has right amount of spice and flavor and is the best canned chili in my opinion.
Warbooze 1989 Yes sir your very right! I can't believe no one else has said nothing about it yet!!
Yes, Roodhouse Chili is great. That's my homemade chili from Roodhouse Illinois. I agree too, Campbell's Chunky Chili is good, better than Hormel.

Warbooze 1989
: I agree with you. Naturally, I think that my "made-from-scratch" chili is the best but, for a quick fix, the Campbell's Chunky (grilled steak version) with beans is my favorite canned chili. I like beans in my chili so, I heat up two cans of chili with a can of chili beans and tweak it with some extra chili powder, cumin, and cayenne powder. That gives me two hearty meals. I top off my bowl with shredded cheddar cheese, three or four dollops of sour cream, and two or three pickled jalapeno chiles. Some garlic bread is a good side.
Wolf Brand by far. Next level up is Carol Shelby's chili mix.
I've enjoyed that mix since I was a child, not sure why I liked it so much
"DENNISON'S CHILI", HANDS DOWN, IS THE BEST!!! YOU ACTUALLY HAVE TO USE A CAN OPENER TO OPEN THE CHILI!!!
you're right Doc, it is the best.Wish I could get it in ohio.
Dennison’s Hot comes in tabtop now. 👍
Its the best stuff in the store for sure
Yup. For about 10 years it was really nasty and low quality, but they did a huge recipe change about 5 years back and it became my go-to chili as a topping or a cold day.
Grew up eating that stuff - typically as a side to grilled steak. Nothing else seems right except made from scratch.
During my teen years in the mid-1970's frequently I would buy a can of Hormel Chili with Beans, dump it into a pot (microwaves didn't exist in my house then) add water to the can, swish it around to clean the can out, heat the chili up and eat it with about 4 - 5 slices of bread. I'm a bread guy so I loved dunking the bread into the soup of the chili. As a young adult in my 20's I would buy the Stagg brand chili. But I since haven't bought a can of chili in probably 30+ years; I enjoy making it for my family and co-workers.
Wolfe brand chilly hands down my favorite or home made or crockpot!
Wolf chili all the way
The best canned chili in the world is Stagg's, period. The only things which need adding are diced fresh white onions a lot of shredded sharp cheddar (which you should be doing anyway).
I like the Steak and Shake ones in the little plastic containers the best. It has a lot more spice (without being spicy) and flavor. Wolf is probably 2nd best. My least favorite is definitely the Armour brand one.... its like pure salt.
I'm 45 and I've never eaten chilli out of a can but now I want to try the wolf brand. Reading the comments it looks like most folks recommend it.
I must say I love Wendy's chilli and if I can ever get my chilli the way I want it I'm gonna try to can my own.
I like Campbell's Chunky spicy chili. It's more of a soup than a spread and has just the right amount of kick to it.
I’ve never liked can chili until my boyfriend bought Stagg brand Silverado beef and it has a good flavor. It has actual chunks of beef.
Yes; it's actually quite nice!
Stagg is horrible
Jeri Brewer So does dog food!
Thomas Pratt I think I just puked a little...

Stagg chili is by far the best. That's what's popular here in Canada anyway.
Campbell’s Chunky? Its ok too in a pinch. I usually make my own on a pit boss smoker.
RoadRunner WR Canadians don't know good chili. Stick to donuts, back bacon, maple syrup, & moose steak, it's your areas of expertise.
@@ChuckBeefOG not a fan of Campbell’s Chunky. Stagg is way better, especially the dynamite hot version, which isn't that hot but it's nice.
@@stevebrownrocks6376 fair enough, you stick to your chili, gun murders and retarded (but highly entertaining) politics. ohhhhhh caaaaaanada.
Agreed
When you’re mixing the chili together it looks like you’re emptying out the fridge!😂😂🕺
That first bowl of chili looks like it has big turds in it.
The only ones I’ve ever heard of are Hormel and Armour. We have another brand around here - Bunker Hill I think - but I never heard of the other 3.
About the only time I buy canned chili is for chili dogs when it doesn’t make sense to spend the day making a whole pot. The Hormel with no beans is just fine for chili dogs.
Chili can be a very good food for Keto if you make it with no beans. So as soon as it starts getting cool we make enough to last a few days.
What this country needs is a good low sodium can of chili.
4real. Shit is ridiculously high in sodium
Amys chili has alot less sodium but no meat and cost more...Ine been looking for a low salt chili.
Better to make your own and freeze for later tbh
misterjag . 990 sodium per sodium in the Hormel. 1000 in the Amour double that for the can.
I would just ended up dumping a bunch of salt into it.
I love watching your videos, you are such a delight and a gift to mankind. I love your sense of humor and honesty! : )
The only canned chilli is the Wolf Brand.....its the best in my opinion. BTW.....I'm a Texan.
As a former New Yorker, I would agree, the Wolf brand is the best.
You bet! Non better to us W Texans.
Buy canned chili without beans, then when cooking drain a can of cooked beans and combine = much larger serving of meat and cheaper overall cost for more servings.
Exactly how I do it. Throw it on some rice or mashed potatoes. You can get even more.
That's too much work.
Campbell's Chunky Chili with Beans is the best canned chili!!
Before I even watch this, the best canned chili is Wolf. No freaking questions. 😂
My favorite canned chilli is, Chilli Man chilli. Your fingernails look awesome. Chilli needs beans!!!I'm freaking picky as hell when it comes to chilli. I would love to send you some chilli for a '' Part 2 '' to this series
Since my lap band surgery in 2002, I have come to really enjoy Wolf Brand Chili w/o beans, topped with medium cheddar cheese and sour cream. It never ever gets boring. I can't stand Hormel or Armour or any of the other canned chili "soups" out there.
"Pardner, when was the last time you had a big, thick, steaming bowl of Wolf Brand Chill? "
Just last night, my friend! "
Well, that's too long."
Amen to that!
chili is the perfect food
When you mixed them all together, it looked like my toilet after I eat taco bell.
TmAn0517 you are disgusting!!
I like the plain Wolf Chili w/ Beans more than the Wolf Homestyle. I think the plain has better chili flavor and spices.
When I saw what you had there, I knew the Wolf would win even before you tested them. I've tried all of these and then some, back when I was single, and I always reached for the Wolf after I tried it.
You're from Quora!
@@MrGuggisberg Yes, same guy.
Canned is ok for a hot lunch at work if I'm lazy that day. But my kids love it when i make it from scratch
I suffer from chronic depression; some days it's not so bad, i have some energy and can make my own food, which i think I'm pretty good at. Some days, though, i can barely drag myself out of bed, and easy canned meals like this are a fucking godsend on those days
I love canned chili but damn, there’s a lot of salt and calories in one can.
When you need to go to the can, at least get the best chili. I’ve been using Wolf for years as my go to can chili.
I’ve never been able to get over the dog food smell and texture of Hormel.
Never trust the palette of the masses.
Scott M was that a play on words? Usually after I eat chili, I have to go to the can. (TMI)
Weird, Wolf seemed more "dog-food" like than Hormel to me.
You get it. Wolf brand is the only can chili to use on hotdogs.
TOTALLY EXCELLENT....!!!!
I love making chili and IMO make a pretty good chili. I used to eat Hormel chili w/ beans growing up... at least a can a week into early adulthood. Fast forward 30 years, my eating habits had changed, as I was fixing meals for the family and my wife at the time was cooking some too so I got away from eating a lot of different things canned chili being among them. I found myself divorced and my daughter grown and out of the house, thus fixing a large pot of chili was and infrequent occurrence. So I tried Hormel again. And wished I hadn't. The recipe they use now bears no resemblance to what it used to be. I can't put my finger on it on what they changed, but it was SOMETHING.
After your video, I am inspired to branch out and see what else I can find to replace Hormel Chili.
Has anyone else noticed a change like I did with Hormel?
Your taste may have changed. I grew up in NJ where they love a thing called pork roll, which I used to love too. Fast forward 25 years and I found a place here in NC that carries it since there are a lot of NJ transplants here. I was definitely not impressed. I thought it was pretty bland. These days I'd rather have summer sausage since it's spicier and way cheaper.
Yep. What's different is that it tastes terrible now!
Campbell's Chunky is my favorite canned one by far. Staag is good too.
We get STAAG over here in the UK. Not seen any of the other brands.
Found a new one. Wolf brand, and it's really good.
Looks like you pour layers of doo doo on top of each other at the end
Yo you should do a video on cocaine vs crack vs heroin bro for us the people....
Jimi Hendrix or maybe acid vs shrooms vs PCP....i know you know what I'm talking about Jimi Hendrix
lmao calling cops rn
The new Mexican "Super Meth": half the price, twice as addictive, and lasts for hours, not minutes, buahahaha
Hell yes he need to try all the drugs 4 us the people
Kira Burke yes i do in i wish i had a room full of drugs right now😀😀😀😵😲😬👹👺
Chef Boyardee had a really good chili. Don't know why they stopped. My mom bought it back in the 1960`s. I never had a homemade chili til I was in school. I ate their chili everytime they made it. Yes they did make it!
Dennison's Chunky Chili with beans is the best hands down.
@sam ludman then don't eat it
@sam ludman don't forget the Bacon. Bagel boy I don't care what you eat or if you eat atall
My favorite is Wolf Brand Chili!
The Broadway Saiyan if it aint wolf brand I won’t eat it
Great review! I'm probably biased since I've lived in Texas for almost 30 years, but Wolf makes the best mainstream canned chili. Wolf's HOT Chili is great if you want a lot of bite and spiciness in your Chili. Over the years I've tried Hormel, Armor and Wal-Mart's Great Value Chili and they all were your generic basic chili, and nothing special. The Great Value might have been made by Hormel, it tasted just like it. And I've seen the Southgate Chili being sold at Dollar Tree so I didn't expect much from it despite it looking very good.
Yep, will be picking some up tomorrow on my H-E-B run. A couple tablespoons of Wolf Brand, medium, no beans, is great stirred into a cup of pasta!
