This is a really fun and great way to cook when you are out and about. It uses re-purposed items and is quite easy to make. Thanks for watching and please leave me a comment and a thumbs up (or down) if you would!
Unless you cant help it, always use glass, especially when using a microwave. If you cook/ warm food in plastic containers, from the heat, particles from the plastick fly and stick on your food. With years it starts to add up in the body. If cooking in a frying pan, make sure its stainless steel and not aluminium due to the same reason as plastics.
I have mentioned this before, but it is worth repeating; I admire the fact that you are NOT embarrassed to Give Thanks for your food on camera. Nothing flamboyant; just honest, humble gratitude. Keep breathin'.
Yeah. It would also be an educational project. (Many kids hate learning but they like things like this!) My daughter, loves to learn. Which makes me Happy! 😊 😃
I love all your videos James. I'm currently on my 12th day living out of a tent full time on a mountaintop. (Homeless lost my apartment July 1st) These videos not only cheer me up but inspire me to try the projects and use them daily.
May God bless and keep you. Try to think of it as an adventure and be sure to watch every 🌅 sunrise and 🌄 sunset. It helps. For me, being alone without my kids and my dog was the hardest thing ever. Just be safe and don’t attempt anything stupid because even a broken foot can be an almost impossible feat on your own.🌺
First thing, don't depend on a tent, get a cheap second hand Gore-Tex bivvy bag, you can pick up british army ones cheap on ebay, it will keep you dry and warm even if your tent leaks or has loads of condensation, and get a tarp, quick to set up in multiple configurations including tent style, great for covering your tent and making a decent porch for when it rains, go RUclips tarp configurations.
@@JohnSmith-df4vb my tent is centimental. I've had it since 2002. It's a A frame eureka timberline 2 tent 30th anniversary edition. It does not flood if you pick your site wisely. I have a tarp for moisture barrier. I pitched myself perfect where drainage is zero problem. Made it threw 2 thunderstorms. I have 4 differ size tarps I'm a marine sargant first class from 2007 too 2011 8n Afghanistan. I don't need or want a solo bivy. I will use tarps to build a lean two. If flooding is a issue and your in a tent dig a moat around tent all sides. Also adding dead tree bark as a shingle system helps repel water from tent flooding.
Great concept, but, I'm not a fan of using heated plastic, either. I was thinking I could easily poke a hole in the jar lid, and with wire, make a little stand for the other end of the skewer to rest and roll on. Put reflective foil on the outside like from the pringles can. Easy peazy... can be washed and reused, too. I'd bet the jar with a closed lid heats a lot faster, as well. I usually eat 2 hot dogs, so I'm thinking I want a jar big enough for a double skewer! I love hot dogs... and thinking what else it could be used for. 🤔
Nice! I am glad you did this one after our conversation this weekend. It was great meeting you and spending some time with you my friend. God bless you and yours!
Nice one James👍 You know all those satellite dishes everybody throws away? I coated one with strips of aluminum ducting tape, not duct tape. Then used a piece of white paper to find the focal point and attached a small grill on the arm. Instant sizzle. Try it.👍
A huuuge flat fresnel lens from the old 80's rear projection TV'S a cool way to cook also!!! Just gotta make a frame to hold the fresnel lens & find the focal point!!!😁👍🏻
I already sent this video to my kids. Looks like lots of fun for us to do with my grandson next time we go camping 🏕 Thanks for sharing this video. And thanks for praying for your meal! Amen 🙏
A couple of my Brothers and I want to have a WPS Day using several of your techniques. I can't wait! Keep these videos coming. There is no telling how valuable they may become.
Awesome little project. Love it. I would be a pretty lazy hobo though. Probably just eat my can of beans and my hotdogs cold. No really, i would. But this is a great idea that would make a fun project for the grandkids.
You praying for your food definitely deserves a thumbs up. I’d like to see you walk through a scenario keeping folks alive. No one has done a multiple person survival scenario
I remember doing this a few decades ago. That be great for our next unit study on the solar system. James, thank you for reminding me (and giving me an excuse to indulge my Pringles addiction) of this.
When the dog is cooked (warm to your desire). Slide it out, wrap a bun around it and slide it back in for 10 more minutes. You'll get a nice steamed and warm bun with your dog!
wow !!! , I work construction, this should work in the window of ur work truck also , we have used the windshield of the vehicle for years to warm food up , making this today
Unless you cant help it, always use glass, especially when using a microwave. If you cook/ warm food in plastic containers, from the heat, particles from the plastick fly and stick on your food. With years it starts to add up in the body. In an area where it gets up to 103 to 111 degrees during the hottest part of the day, this oven should cook a hot dog in no time flat. I have built Solar Ovens as a kid and in Southern Arizona, they DO work and surprisingly well. The first one I built was for a Science Fair project. It was built from an old Barbecue Grill lined with aluminum foil. Got an A on the project.
Finally, a new use for the empty cans from these hideous, fake, and unhealthy chips. A few of these cans reside on my shelves to store the used cotton rounds that Beautiful Bride and Beautiful Daughter gift me after a manicure. They get soaked in recycled candle wax and become an easy fire extender. I have wanted to motivate the youngest members of our family to try solar cooking. With rainy / typhoon season upon us, this is certainly not the best time of the year for solar ovens here in the Philippines. Your project will be perfect. When we have a break from clouds and rain, heating up a dog or precooked sausage will be great fun and educational. Thank you for this inspiring video. I will hit the subscribe button next.
nice idea, two thoughts, use the lid to center the hole on the bottom and insert plastic through the top to keep from creasing plastic or tearing can....
Great ideas. It makes me wonder how it would work if you left the can intact but painted the outside of it a flat black. It might keep some of the heat in and let it cook faster. It seems with your method there are loose spots where the heat gets out.
nice expand on the soda can solar cooker from a month or so ago. though, the plastic bottle is a cool add on. but with the soda can you can put it near a fire to cook also.
I remember back in the 80's Mr Wizard did an episode on solar cooking that was pretty good. There is probably more good ideas, for the modern hobo or when one does some rough camping.
Mister Bender I just watched your video on the solar cooking I was wondering if a 12 or 24 oz plastic bottle would work for heating water or cooking soups or stews as well and I both enjoy and learn much from your videos and I thank you sir
Teaching young kids about solar ovens recently and one of them said "isn't this new technology amazing, you probably cooked food in flames from a bonfire" I laughed and replied "my grandpa showed me this way of boiling water when I was little just like he learnt it from his folks, materials have changed but the basic science is the same as hundreds of years ago"

A little follow-up on this project. We are patiently waiting for the "out-laws" to empty a few chip cans and bring them when they come to visit. We took a side path one morning when the sky cleared to try a different version. We have a stack of aluminum loaf pans with clear plastic lids. The sealed-up loaf pan was tilted toward the sun and we allowed some extra time due to clouds appearing and shading the project a few times. I am happy to report that a warm dog was the end product! I am guessing our "cheat" does not work as well as the solar cooker that you crafted and we will soon find that out but at least we did a positive result.

Same here. I think it was third grade science class. We also made ice cream in ziplock bags with ice, rock salt and chocolate milk!
@@squirrellydan4987 i remember something like that..damn I feel old now lol
I didn't even hear about solar ovens until I was in my late 20's...
I'm young enough that we used Pringles cans to make our cookers in school, but old enough to have almost forgotten all about it 😆
