Yes, click on apple icon top left and check for software update. Update all if there are any, then once updated click apple icon and check again for software update. Do this as many times until you get no updates left and then in app store you will be able to 'get' El capitan to upgrade to. Then from there you can do same steps and then move up to next upgrade available etc.
what the other person said did not work for me but what i had to do (im doing now to see if it works) is going to EL CAPT from LION (10.7.5). What i did was put a new credit card in my phone account for Apps/Icloud etc hten it reads it in my comp as long as its same email account. ill keep ya posted that got rid of the nothing happening for me / error message i received sometimes

Well I downloaded the file to upgrade to High Sierra but it doesn't work,only saying that my computer cannot upgrade to that version,though it has the OSX 10.7.5,so....no comment

adrian sears also, i did that to get to el capt. i went to install el capt and it does it all and says it’s installed but it’s not actually running at all. i am going to spend weekend figuring this shit out because i really don’t want to buy a new computer i just need access to microsoft word photoshop and all those goodies

adrian sears update: the above worked . now i need to install from here SIERRA. they told me i can do mojave but i read directions and it doesn’t seem like it works on the 2011. if need link to sierra for after el capt lemme kno :) good luck

@Tommy Hamilton u need to download el capitan first so you can install catalinna but now this method doesn’t work anymore.mine also 10.7.5 but when i try to install its say my mac doesn’t support it.

Music was super super annoying and this didn't really help at all. you need to talk or put subtitles, and PLEASE find new music options. You also could've put the link in the desc. for us to copy. Just remember that for future reference.
