10.8 had the best looking Dock. I remember starring at the dock and admire the frosted reflections numerous times in a day!

@@dotapark I also wish the experience gets improved, like showing the number of open windows in the open app indicator dot (a dot per window up to 3), previewing the app windows on hover just like how it currently shows the app name and the ability to close and fullscreen windows right from the dock

The skeuomorphic dock design (10.5-10.7) is the best. I really wish Apple brings back this... :(

Personal favorite is the 10.8 dock. It seems more space themed and those reflections were a welcome touch in my book

I'm limited to Catalina until my new Studio comes. (My beloved iMac is almost 10 years old. RIP 27" iMacs!) I like my dock and, as others have said, some of the earlier "metallic" OSX docks were even better. Looking at the newest one here ... seems like a bit of a sad downgrade. Not every integration with iOS is an improvement.

ngl i love the consistency of the finder, it’s always been there and hasn’t changed at all unlike a certain window related system where the icon is constantly tilting left and right and is going through an identity crisis

It’s cool to see how far the Mac has come. macOS Big Sur - Monterey has the most consistent and modern dock. It’s nice 👍🏼.
10.8-10.9 is just so perfect
i like mac os x dev preview 4's dock because of the realistic trash can and the striped lines. it looks very realistic

anyone remember dashboard? i loved it and i searched it for hours after the removal… i think it was a really nice feature and for when you were bored, you could even play a mini game (puzzle or something like that)…

The Developer Preview 3 of OS X reminds me of the Plank dock that can be installed on Linux in a weird way. Usually, the dock’s active, selected window would take up about the amount of space in the Developer Preview 3’s dock.
I remember as a kid going to my Mac user friend's house, and seeing the Mac OS 10.5-7 dock on his PC. Being only six or so, I'd never used a Mac, and thought it was so cool what his computer could do compared to our slow, clunky, but still good looking software wise Vista PC.
I was with my cousin at I-store, and he was looking at the Computers. He was confused by icons, and asked me: ,,What kind of Windows version is this?" I bursed out laughing and people were looking at me like crazy.Funniest moment ever.
Unpopular opinion here but I MUCH prefer the dock in its latest form. There’s too much detail in the previous versions. It looks good but over designed if that makes sense. The new dock seems to want you to focus on your work instead of admiring your dock.

I used real Macs for 10.6 and above.
When Big Sur was released, I really hated the new Dock design as I was used to the angled icons of Catalina and earlier.

Monterey (and currently Ventura) share the same identical dock design since Big Sur.
(That’s why uploader put “macOS 11-present”)

Not a big fan of the 3D Docks and hope they never come back. The least annoying (best) of the 3D Docks are 10.8/10.9
My all time favorites are 10.14/10.15 they look so clean and modern the current Docks look more iOS than macOS
