Updating the 2010 MBP from Snow Leopard to High Sierra!

- In this video, I take this 2010 Macbook Pro that was recycled and give it some new life.
Taking this from OSX 10.6.8 (which it appears was never updated since the machine was purchased) to its last OS update available 10.13 High Sierra.
I did have a couple of issues with doing this, but you will see in the video.
This laptop does have some dings and quirks but runs great, I will be doing some more upgrades to it in the future :)

When the mid 2010 MacBook Pros first came out, they shipped with Snow Leopard 10.6.3.

I dont have recovery mode on mine, 10.6.8 (Pushing option during startup), tried everything.
I had one with Mojave but I never used snow leopard, but it kind of got water damaged on either last day of snow leopard or when I ended Mojave.
Sadly, I still haven't made it past that "damaged" file error message. I reset the date, but no luck. Any ideas anyone?

How’d you get your version to update? I have the same issue and I can’t find a way to updated from snow leopard to High Sierra
Karmaa I had to download it from another Mac and create a bootable usb. If you don’t have another Mac you may be able to find a torrent to download.. just be careful. What version are you on now?

@@Backup4190 I'm dealing with this problem right now. After updating 10.6.8 you need to update to lion version. then you can build high sierra or sierra. I've been investigating this for three days. I could not find a document on this subject on the internet. I recently found a solution in a small comment on an abandoned website.

@@FuatVURAL Because I was finally able to update to High Sierra (10.13.6) but now my computer is super slow.
Umm when I update mac os 1.7.5 tomac os 1.8 it doesn't let me upgradit it doesn't open necuaseit cant be verfied
yo bro- i kinda got messed about with in the lion installation, from 10.6.8, I got told it failed because of how it couldn't make a recovery system, if you could help me id appreciate it thanks.

Hey man. You can buy a AIRPORT ribbon... thats what happened to me in my 2011. The Ribbons are basically connected to the board via a sata cable I think and they are cheap
Jay Mitra nice! It seems it was a weird glitch with the Wifi, after I installed a clean version of high Sierra everything worked fine. I think because it’s been on the same OS before and was not updated things just got messed up.

I have a question, will it erase all my data like my photos and documents that i saved from my studies ?
Yes it will. But you'll have to backup your computer to an external Hard Disk via Time Machine application in your Mac before upgrading. You can lookup into your Hard Disk whenever required or again restore your files from your Hard Disk.

When i pressed the option button, it doesnt show the boot menu / anything, im using mbp 2009 13 inch, with the snow leopard (lattest supported os) :(

when i downloaded the high sierra zip i tried to open it but it said unable to unarchive it and i already have any app to extract it but that didnt work either

You can upgrade in place.. but always backup your computer before!

Well APFS was new and wanted to try it with the SSD. But I don’t see much of a difference in speed.

Hello Ian.... I was wondering if you have an email add so I can reach you. I want to upgrade an old macbook pro mid 2010.... my sister didnt want to buy the new batt so she gave it to me. I have a couple of questions on the process... dont know much about macs. I already downloaded the zip file of High Sierra from the site that you posted. If you can help me out it will be great.

Ians Tech link please. I purchased from someone for little to nothing but they didn’t take care of it. No updates. And no disks were given. Just the laptop.

@@bluebear7223 I've just updated mine to High Sierra yesterday, if you're stuck on Snow Leopard..you should get Mountain Lion and then straight to High Sierra
