I flew Ukraine International from Madrid to Kiev probably 15 years ago. The departure lounge was at the far end of the terminal and when I arrived there I found a group of five or six BIG Ukrainian guys drinking out of bottles in brown paper bags. I thought, this is going to be a horror flight and for sure, I will be sitting next to this group. As it turns out, I was, so immediately after take off I just moved several rows forward and nobody objected. Mid flight two or three of the guys got up and moved forward to go through the curtain into business class and my blood ran cold. I thought........."this will be trouble". However, the only male flight attendant on board who was all of 160 cms tall marched right down from the front of the aircraft and stood in the aisle, planted his feet and in a VERY firm voice and sternly pointing finger directed them back to their seats. He did not raise his voice but whatever he said worked. They all sat down and that was the last we heard of them for the rest of the flight. He was totally in control. I wish I knew what he said. Maybe "do you want to spend the rest of your life in a gulag?" The crew was friendly and calm, the food was pretty good, the aeroplane was clean and we were on time. Great little airline and fascinating country.

I started crying when you said, "May their souls rest in peace". I love your channel and rarely comment; I live for my trips I've been able to take for awhile each year to Europe and how special it feels and recall sitting in my seat waiting for take off watching the planes ahead lift off. Cannot fathom how travel or the world will be when we can travel again and my heart breaks and hope to return to my special places in Europe. I hope you take time and are able to have some down time to be in Germany or home for you these days and can spend good, quality time with family and friends even if it means social distancing. Take care Josh!❤️

A big reason why Mr Cahill is my favourite flight reviewer is his honesty. Good or Bad, he shares his trips exactly as he saw and experienced. No sugar coating and he does so with a modest sense of humour. Like everyone I too am wishing the pandemic to be beaten (like polio was), but I don't necessarily blame 2020 per se. I blame China because ultimately it is likely to written that this could have been avoided, and should have been. The full truth will likely never be known but I'm looking forward to the day when free and fair societies hold them to account via a 'Nuremberg' type trial. This has been a crime against humanity by any reasonable definition. In the meantime, I applaud Mr Cahill for his work, his honesty and experiences. He may not know nor realise, but I suspect many had Cahillathons to pass the days in 2020. Cheers!

I have flown several times on Ukraine International to and from Kiev. I was returning to the United States right after the plane was shot down and saw the memorial of flowers and grieving families at Borispol. It hurt my heart to see so much grief!❤️🇺🇸🌎🇺🇦❤️
Josh, I also fly internationally throughout the year for work doing international recruiting for a university, but I have been grounded since the end of January. I discovered your channel just recently. It brings me some measure of comfort seeing planes and airports, even just virtually. Your videos are entertaining and I appreciate your candid assessments of airlines I have flown and not flown yet. Things will hopefully get better in 2021 with vaccine programs rolling out. Don't stop what you are doing. Traveling feeds the soul.

UIA one of my favorite airlines! Everything is fine: prices, comfort and they are have a very high safety standards. Actually I was very happy when I tried new Boeing 777, it was fantastic flight from Kyiv to Beijing.

Agree - price/quality is really good. Only flown them on shortish hops (KBP to HEL, IST, LWO, ATH) but always ok. First flight with them was HEL - IST (old Atatürk airport) via KBP and the first leg was severely delayed (snow chaos over Europe), but they managed to get us to IST that same night with Turkish even though at that time there wasn't even a transit desk in the air-side part of KBP. Plucked us almost at the gate and whisked us through to get new tickets issued. A 6h delay at the start, resulting in a missed connection, turned into only 3h late at destination. Not bad!
One minus is (or was? - haven't flown with them since 2019 :sad face:) that their app doesn't like the Scandinavian letters in our names, but their customer service through email has always fixed it in a timely manner.
KBP is also one of the few airports I don't mind spending time in - though the restaurants in 2018-2019 aren't as nice as the more spartan coffee stands they had earlier. Those were fantastic quality, a great foretaste of how seriously Ukrainians take coffee (at least in Kiev and Lviv they do).
I only hope they will start up their flights to Helsinki again soon. Their schedule used to be very convenient for connecting to almost everywhere in Ukraine, and we had already made a list of places to visit when a good price coincided with having a few days off. (Ukraine is the friendliest and nicest country in Central/Eastern Europe, sorry everywhere else.)

Josh, I hear you - that intro pretty much sums up how most of us have been feeling. Thanks for another great video though! On the security (2:50) I remember flying out of Amsterdam Schiphol many times when they had security at the gate. The gate area got pretty crowded when it was a wide-body, but now the central security is SO MUCH better 🙂 And rice with a fork or a spoon (13:48)? My reason for why to have security at the gates is that then the crowd is only for that airline. Also, passengers running late don't get stuck at a security queue with passengers from other flights as well. Psychologically, you would feel better off stuck in a security queue at the gate of your aircraft rather than just before/after immigration.
It's actually a big security risk, though not really related to current times, terrorists can sneak explosives closer into the heart of the airport. Which may be devastating to airport operations

Thank you for this review Josh. What this review has done is that this has elevated my perception of Ukraine International Airlines from "near-obscurity" to "positively-reviewed" in my schema of airline rankings. So the next time I plan my travels, and if Ukraine International becomes a competing airline choice that covers the particular route I plan on travelling, I shall put it in the "need to check out" category vis-a-vis the other airline choices for said route. Hi Josh, in PRG security check at the gates is done for countries outside Schengen, I guess it might be for a reason, that certain countries might have special requirements (assuming here). Flight to schengen area have central security check right after check-in. Safe travels.

Outstanding video. You are an excellent communicator. I think maybe the quality of the food is partly with the country of origin and their "catering prowess." I always enjoy seeing how much leg room you have. The US carriers have very close seats unless you pay for the upgrade for more legroom only.

I watch your reports whenever I am frazzled with work and want to escape for a while. It is the journey more than the destination that is exciting. Keep doing it! 3:12 it reduces the people at the security which makes it easier and cancles the problem that someone is stuck at security

I found you a few months back and have enjoyed binging spurts! You are so direct and usually upbeat even in bad flights! The start of this video, you sounded so despondent! I have watched others filmed after so I'm guessing you were in a funk and pulled yourself back! You are very relaxing to watch and are providing an essential tool to travelers and airlines! TYVM for helping me escape my self quarantine in the USA, since February due to multiple chronic diseases, and travel the world with you! Only suggestion I could make would be to add in local scenery, attractions or even hotels. I'm curious what you do with your time before the next flight! Here's to hoping 2021 brings peace and health to the world!
