I flew UIA Kharkov - Tel Aviv, 737-800 and this plane have been more comfortable and cleaner than Delta Miami - New York

I believe I didn't get it. UIA is not the best airline, but definitely not the worst one. Regarding clapping at the end of the flight - this is soviet heritage.
Try to fly at something like TU-134 and you will be clapping too.
Haha, clapping on landing was more common in other European countries, too when flying was still really exceptional, a couple of decades ago.
Don’t consider clapping as something bad, that’s pretty fine(I don’t care bout it at all🤷♂️)

I flew Ukraine International last year from London to Kiev and then on to Kharkiv. I thought it was one of the better flights I've been on. I was very impressed.

You should take anything SkyTrax rates with a grain of salt. They give Lufthansa 5 stars yet speaking with any frequent traveller they would tell you that Lufthansa and Singapore aren't in the same league. Meanwhile Air Canada is given 4 stars allowing them to boast they are the only 4 star airline in North America in spite of them having one of the worst on time performance records in the industry. Bottom line : how good an airline is depends precisely on where you travel to and how they treat you. Those stars are earned - I've seen some airlines provide 0 effort for service recovery whilst others have bent over backwards for me.

Have you ever encountered them delaying or cancelling your flight or forcing an overnighter at a far flung destination because they blew your connection? Those are things that have all happened to me and my experiences from the airlines have varied. Some have told me to pound sand and wait for the next flight out. Others have put me up in a hotel, comped meals, booked me on the next flight on any airline, etc.
Lufthansa didn’t earn their Skytrax rating, they paid for it.

As someone who flies both fairly often - Lufthansa is so consistent in product it doesn’t matter that the product isn’t as good. You know exactly what you’re getting which can be said about very few airlines. Singapore gives me a different aircraft every time from BNE to SIN with substantial difference in product.

I flew in UIA two weeks ago and in my opinion they are great! They got new planes, are clean and got friendly stuff. You get more service on board as well like on BA etc...

I fly Bangkok-Kiev quite regularly on their 767s and now 777s , on premium economy, and sometimes Business class. I have learnt my lesson not to trust Skytrax. Their soft product is decent, no so much on the hard! - good review nevertheless Dan,. Cheers from Thailand.

The Sky track lot are like lambs to slaughter believe stuff without experiencing it themselves it’s for this reason Ryanair with a 100% safety record that I fly on regularly get a load of crap written by people that read skytrack rubbish instead of trying out an airline themselves.🍀🇬🇧✈️👨✈️👩✈️

You should fly their 777s to jfk it’s actually different in a good way compared to the 737s
But that 777s are refurbished (ex operator Asiana)

Hi Dan!! Just here to comment about fear of flying! I was a person terrified of flying so much so that it impacted grad school, jobs, and of course vacations! I just turned 40 last month and I decided I was going to be 40 and fearless! I booked a trip with friends and we went to Miami on Southwest for my bday! It was totally no big deal and I regret the years I was scared to fly! Now I’m excited to book my next trip but I’m finding flying is expensive $$$! Go figure! I use to watch your videos to get a sense of what to expect...thanks for making them!!
Yeah same thing with Iberian on my return flight to the US. Spaniards could not stay in their seat and were chatting and drinking wine like crazy. I just wanted to sleep!
Perhaps jet airlines are simply not the place for a good night sleep. Not even on Singapore Airlines, or Emirates; or Qatar.

I don't know about this one. UIA went great for me, I was on more than 10 flights, never had a single problem. More praised airlines like Wizzair ended up being way worse than UIA.

OMG you actually did it!! Remember I left a comment somewhere previously asking you to take this airlines. In addition to your "likes", I was stuck on such an airplane (767-300) for entire 10 hours from Beijing to Kiev, it was my excietment of the trip which kept me from jumping out. BTW, Sanya on the route map is something like Hawaii, guess many Ukranians come during winter.

I went crazy when i saw you flew this airline! I live in kiev and always fly ukrainian. I always fly the 737 so i never get food on the airplane. Its not that bad of an airline though. I think the economy seats are actually more comforatable than the klm 737
Funny review! I don't agree with Skytrax in a lot of things, and UIA's 2-star rating is one of them. If have found the the seats on their 737's are a lot more comfortable than Lufthansa's A320 and A321. I think the loud passengers was more of a cultural thing. Also-Ankara is a popular destination for Ukrainian tourists who are not familiar with flying. Keep up the great videos!

I remember I flied to Ukraine a few times as a kid from Heathrow to Kiev, I loved it because they always gave me this erasable drawing board (Admittedly this was quite a few years back). British Airways has never given me an erasable drawing board.
I got a bargain for ￡374 from LGW to PEK via Kiev. Nothing need to be mention. No entertaiment, no refreshment, even you have to pay for the Coke if you really need one. Tough Journey.

I once flew out of Berlin with them. Stayed in Kiev for 4 nights and then head out to Istanbul. All flights were supposed to be operated by UIA but the Kiev x Istanbul flight was operated by a company called Windrose Airlines... now THAT deserves a review. Weird aircraft (from the seats to the smell), huge delay... at least the flight attendants were courteous. Anyway, nice video :)

Not the same exact plane though. The one that was shot down in Iran was registered as UR-PSR. The aircraft in this video is registered as UR-PSC.
And then you realize that Dan's experience with Ukraine International is still far better than the usual domestic flight in Brazil...

When I lived in Kazakhstan I only ever flew from the UK and back with UIA. The Almaty flight had complimentary catering though and it wasn't the best. But my connections were always easy in Kyiv and once I got upgraded. The best thing though was when you got a 737-900 (seemingly they would appear randomly to replace the -800 during the winter season) and the legroom was great. Relatively basic but easy transfer, punctual and easy to redeem miles. Have I been lucky?!?
