All of the tips you offered were spot on! I’ve traveled a lot for many years not only as a passenger, but also as a Flight Attendant. The best tip was definitely respecting the airline employees. I have been upgraded several times at no charge for just being kind to the ground agents as a paying customer not as an employee during major airport issues or delays.
Seriously, who else thinks flight attendants should be paid for every second they spend in uniform? By the way, that's got to be one of the smoothest segways into an ad I've ever seen.

They should be paid from the first second they enter the airport till the end of their day's duty... every job is like that, I never understood why people of the sky are paid only for a part of the time they work for the company.
Albert Latham - agree with you. Not many things worse than being at an airport for hours and having to tolerate noise, confusion, crowds, bad food/coffee and seating (if you find it in some airports). Please Dan, this is a great suggestion for those who are not highly frequent flyers but value a relaxing, calm start to a holiday and/or flight experience.
Just a note: free food may not be good food. Example: United Airlines lounges at Dulles (IAD) and Los Angeles (LAX) have horrible food, not even any bottled water! ( The LAX lounge had free M&Ms. LOL.) Also, even in United domestic 1st class on U.S. flights, the food can be horrible. So I try to buy something decent in the airport before flying United.

So please before you start taking it out on us realize it’s not our fault, we are even more frustrated than you because we feel the pressure to work fast. A few years ago I went to check in some overweight baggage in Dubai. The person behind the counter looked very ill and I enquired and offered to get a drink. It turned out she was unwell and she was so moved by my concern that she put my bag through without any extra charges. That was the high point of a very long journey home.
I find that I always use a (school) backpack when travelling. Because unless there are breakables in there, they tend to squash to fit the space, and even a decent size fits as a personal item. And from experience if you book a special meal make sure you have enough food for the flight (but commercially made) to cover you in case your meal request disappears in cyberspace.
You don’t even necessarily need a membership or creditcard to get into a lounge. There’s an app called Loungebuddy which shows you the lounges you can get into for between $20-$50 in every airport. I never really have long layovers but I can imagine spending that $50 for a comfortable place to sit and food and drinks actually saves you money on, say, a 6-hour layover. A sandwich and a bottle of soda can easily set you back $15 in an airport, so if your layover is long enough it can easily save you some money and a lot of back aches! Thanks for sharing so much btw Dan! I don’t fly all that often but when I do, accounts like yours make sure I’m just fully prepped and have nothing to worry about during my trip!

If you're kind and don't throw your anger at us, we'll be even kinder to you.
Wowza! You get there 15-30 minutes before your flight? Don’t do that in the USA. You they always overbook and use that window to reassign your seat to waitlisted passengers. Been there, done that! "I’m sorry sir, let me see when the next flight is..." But I have a reservation. "Had dear, had. You’re late, your seat was given to a passenger who was not late." 😡🤯🤬
Channeling your inner Ellen DeGeneres is no longer considered a calm, happy, sweet demeanor 😹 it's funny how things will change over a year. Great advice! Love your videos! ♥️
Lounge access is very important I have experience that food offered by some airlines are really bad or they don't offer food if you have a late late night flight Sometime you count time to reach the airport and if you have to report 3 hrs prior to departure so you have to take an early dinner or no dinner so it's better to eat in lounge Same goes when you are in transit With priority pass u pay $27 Food offered on some lounge like in Dubai is fantastic To add unlimited WiFi access So most important is lounge access
Excellent as always, Dan. I completely agree, particularly with #1 and #5. I've had delayed or cancelled flights more often than I'd like, and being kind and courteous to the ground staff has generally helped my getting booked in a good hotel, rebooked on another flight, food vouchers, etc. Then, following on from that, having a change of clothes and a small travel toiletries kit (e.g., deodorant, shaving kit, toothbrush, etc.) makes everything easier if you are required to stay overnight. Keep up the good work!
Great Tips, When I fly I always try to check in online as soon as possible. My main carrier is with Southwest and it is imparitive that you book the minute you can check in. They're is of course Early Bird Check in which allows you to Check in most earlier than the usual passengers, however when you go to book your flight it costs extra to do this, so I do mine the day of and I"m usually between A1 to A5 every time. Thanks Dan! :)
Lip balm, ear plugs, eye shades. Toothbrush - brushing your teeth is good way to signal to your body you’re going to go to sleep. Hairbrush, moisturiser for hands and face. If I’m flying business and there’s no complimentary PJs I bring my own. Changing clothes again helps to signal to the body it’s time to sleep when you’re out of your normal time zone and environment. Essential prescription meds if you have them. NEVER put them in the hold. Bring painkillers and if in economy sleeping tablets are a Godsend. I know lots of people say it’s bad in case of an emergency. So make your own choices. A book. Rarely do I have the luxury of reading for pleasure. A long flight is an ideal place to read that booker prize winner you’ve been promising to read all year.
I’d appreciate if you would do a video about interacting with a gate agent when your connecting flight is suspiciously delayed, that is when it seems to be inconvenient to the airline (not enough passengers to make it profitable). I’m a pleasant, patient guy, but at times I’ve had to reluctantly pay hardball and make people do their jobs. I hate doing this. However, I will NOT be a doormat!!
I think it's important to know your rights and push for them if needed. If the gate agent or customer service rep refuses to do something that's in the T&C or even a legal requirement, you need to be polite but firm about it, remind them of the rules, but assume ignorance before malice, airline staff do forget things from time to time. If they still push back, well that's when you need to channel your inner Karen and ask for the manager.
Additional to the flight mistake. It’s not right to drinking a lot water. The right way is drink water frequently but just few sips every time. It actually would come out a large amount of water you drank at the end.
Mistake 1. Airlines need to learn to communicate early and clearly and have a decision maker available to support the customers, when things go wrong. Mistake 5. My cabin bag includes, shirt, trousers, undies, socks, book, noise canceling headphones, passport/travel doc folder.
“Terminally delightful,” LOL, I love it! I’m ALWAYS super early to the airport. I’ve had too many times where I showed up and was opted out of TSApre (I have Global Entry) and the regular line was a mile long. I’m usually checking in 2 hours before departure time. Haven’t missed a flight yet due to my own error. Another good one, Dan.
I once nearly showed up 24 hours before my flight. I am dyspraxic and can get confused and mix things up. I phoned up the person I was going to be staying with and said 'see you tomorrow' and was told my flight was in two days time.
I'd say a good tip for airlines, lounge access is a cheap perk for irritated passengers who've missed a connection due to delay. We're tired of being in a crowded, brightly lit space for hours, many of us just want somewhere calm and quiet to rest for a few hours until the next flight. It'll probably soothe a lot of tension.
On delays and cancellations: What I do is take a seat in the boarding area and wait while all the crazies gather around the counter. Once they are gone, I walk up very calmly and tell the agent I am sorry they had to go through all of that. I give them my ticket and we have polite small talk while they figure out what to do with me. (Hint: if there is a kiosk open that sells chocolates or cookies I will use my waiting time to buy a box for the agent) Even without the gift, I have been upgraded every single time by simply being a breath of fresh air for the agent. Being polite goes a long way.
I too am only just on time to the airport/gate/etc. but do check in online ASAP (as soon as my app tells me to do so, typically 24 hours in advance) and NOW after watching this video, I’m glad I do 😆 Thanks for another useful, and humorous video!
The best arguement for taking a light change of clothing in your carry-on is the Ron Howard experience. Howard is the well-known director and actor. Howard and family were on a flight to New Zealand; his infant did projectile vomiting on his shirt. He cleaned up ok in restroom as best as he could. But it was 12 hours more to NZ, and all his clean shirts were in luggage packed in the hold of the plane. That's why you have a t-shirt in carry-on. Unless you like smelling like vomit, and love the shunning from other passengers. 😘
just to add to things you should bring on your carry on... I would suggest a lotion, chapstick and a small travel size Vicks Vaporub~ invariably, in the middle of a long haul flight, if your nose gets itchy or stuffed.. while it may not get rid of it entirely, it does provide a lot of comfort and relief! Safe travels!
It's extremely important to pack your prescriptions/medications in your carry on. If you don't have your meds, you may be unable to obtain them in a country other than your own. Also pack an over the counter medicine kit, e.g., ibuprofen, ant-diarrhea pill, dental floss, bandages. Pens and a small pad of paper are good to pack.
I remember when I entered the escape lounge at London Stansted for an early 7am flight. Staff member "what is the airport like sir ?" . My response "like a refugee camp, people sprawled everywhere, lying on the floor, chairs everywhere" . At which point she and the other person entering the lounge laughed their asses off. Ahhh lounge life!!
Make sure you use a suitcase/bag that is adequately sized for your luggage - especially when flying low-cost airlines that have lower weight/size limits on checked or carry-on bags. I flew Spirit for the first time for a 2-week vacation, so obviously I wanted to bring a lot of clothes - however the weight limit was 40lbs for checked bags as opposed to the usual 50lb limit that Delta, American, and United all have. My suitcase is huge and therefore took up a lot of weight on its own. I could barely fill my suitcase halfway before hitting 40lbs. If you're ever in a similar situation where you're either taking a lot of luggage or flying with a low-cost carrier, make sure that you not only check their weight/dimension limits, but also ensure that your suitcase is JUST big enough for everything so it doesn't weigh any more than it needs to.
Ohhhh the upload finally happened!!! Yay!!! One more thing to NOT put into your suitcase: MEDS! If your suitcase gets lost or delayed, you are really in trouble without your meds.
Always put your destination adress on label on case always put your home adress inside case as a lot get lost in transit. Always carry your medication in hand luggage👩✈️🇬🇧🍀👨✈️🇺🇸
Also for #5: Bring your medications in your carry-on! And: Pro tip for those who use a CPAP machine - you can bring your CPAP onboard with you and it doesn't count as a carry-on item since it is a medical device. Just remember to let the airline know when you make your reservation that you'll be bringing it, get a tag for it that says "medical device", and understand that unless you have a backup battery, you most likely will not be able to use it on the plane.
In most cases, apart from an airline hub, the ground handling staff is not even from the airline, but from a ground handling cooperation such a Swissport. They mostly have very basic authority on the airplane/airline.
I flew Nice to Rome recently with Air Italia. The flight was delayed due to lazy check in and I had my baby getting more upset by the minute. Everyone was aggravated but we were so polite and friendly to the crew understanding it wasn’t their fault. However the crew were equally aggravated and took it out on the passengers. They couldn’t even be bothered with the safety instructions and allowed people to take off with reclined seats. Not one smile came from them and food was pretty much thrown at us. Every time I fly with Air Italia it gets worse.
Thank you for so many great videos and tips! I started to travel frequently between the US and EU, and you have made my trips much easier and enjoyable. Please keep it going!!
Greetings from DTW (aka Diversions To Work lol). I agree with #1. As a gate/ticketing agent, we want nothing more than the schedule to have flights run on time if not early and believe me when I say I've spent time at the gate literally running all over, working my ass off to make it happen. To add on to it, it also helps to not be overly indecisive during delays such as weather. I know it sounds counterintuitive, but I'm having to compete with hundreds of people for that seat on your behalf when you're going back and forth in your head. Doing that often makes the difference between me being able to confirm you on that flight, or forcing me to waitlist you and hope you get on, much less have a decent seat. I've endured more NYC weather/ATC delays than I care to count, and you have no idea how much it drives me and my coworkers crazy when people are being wishy-washy like that.
I am going to be taking a trip to Australia next year and already planning on bringing two extra outfits in my carry on luggage not just one and books and of course a few books in my backpack which I will get out once I get to the terminal, so that I am not the one having to get up and get something out of the overhead while in flight.
I agree with all of these, but one. I prefer airport check-in, then again, I am usually at the airport hours before the flight departs. But yes, agree 100% with the rest! I don't fly often enough to justify Priority Pass, will see what credit cards I can get that offer lounge access, would be a better bet for me.
My rule after crossing the 1.5 million mark ... (1) don’t be a Drama Queen. Gets you NOWHERE. (2) for me, I tend to arrive at airport early (which allows time to compensate for the unexpected ... and unexpected ALWAYS shows up in some form) and I head straight for the lounge after clearing security. I’m just not into last minute and out of breath anymore. I value my composure more. 👍🏻
Oh, hey, Dan, what do you think about drinking coffee on a plane? I don't know if you even drink coffee, I don't think so, but thought I'd ask anyway. I heard all those horror stories of how the water tanks never get cleaned and that you should stay away from coffee on a plane, but when I fly overseas, I just can't refuse that stuff! I can't sleep on planes anymore and I really need the caffeine and I don't drink sodas. Any thoughts?
@@amberpaul4245 Haha, that would make sense if I had the coffee early, but I only drink coffee shortly before we reach the destination. I would try a sleeping pill but that thing would knock me out cold for more 9 or 10 hours. :-)
Tiger's Eye Athens to Abu Dhabi (3hr 40min) plus 1hr 10min stopover. Then Abu Dhabi to Brisbane (14hr 55min) plus 2hr 20min stopover. Then Brisbane to Melbourne (2hr 25min). Pray for me.
I always try to drink some rehydrate (electrolytes) when flying even if it's a short flight, I feel it makes me feel so much better when I land and doesn't make me get up and go to the bathroom several times during the flight.
Aaaaahhhh.... Daniel. Wonderful travel tips, and the honesty that you don't always conform to such. Did chuckle at your reference to the Expiration Date of "2024" for a desert. Should give many a moment of pause to consider what they are stuffing into their mouths. By the way, those sugary drinks which many consume so much of on a flight, and sugary snacks, only make you thirstier. Ever wonder why you seem thirsty after a Coke, and such? Its not by chance that this occurs. Hmmmmm..... how does one create the need for another Coke (or similar) drink???? Too much coffee or tea will tend to dehydrate you as well. Bravo on your comment about flight attendants, ticket counter reps, etc. The more human we are with them, the better we treat them overall, the better for everyone. I've had the experience that comes with being understanding and kind to these folks. It not their fault that there are delays, and such. They're right in there with the rest of the PAX. Cheers.....
For those that have lounge access make sure you empty out before you go to your aircraft it will mean you will have to go at least one less time in the uncomfortable aircraft toilet.
And even worse if the light doesn’t work in The toilet I was on a flight where I was scared to press any loo buttons in case I ended up being sucked outside haha✈️🇬🇧🍀👨✈️🇺🇸👩✈️
I suggest - know where you are sitting. On my going to and on my return I had someone already in my assigned seat. Look on the airlines web site or SeatGuru where your seat is. Especially helpful on wide body aircraft. Bring a jacket, even if you're going to a topical location airplanes can be cold
Dan, I love your channel. Now when I fly I totally look at the seats and judge them in my head! I have a question, what is the app that you use to manage all of your mileage plans? Hope you read this and reply.
I rarely pack clothes in my carry on. I don’t care too much about over packing in my suitcase or my hand luggage. I often pack tons of entertainment and don’t use it all. Better to be prepared than bored.
I love your channel! But I am NOT a good flyer. I'm not scared. I just cannot tolerate being stuck anywhere with people. And in the middle of the flight, one is strongly discouraged from attempting to exit the plane. So my first tip is Valium. I haven't had a bad flight since I tried this wonderful thing. Even postponed flights and annoying AF co travelers haven't bothered me a bit. And American has always been awesome for me. But again, valium. I'm super polite and calm and the Flight Attendants have been awesome. They even bumped my son up to first class one time when he was in uniform and flying home on leave.

Sometime you count time to reach the airport and if you have to report 3 hrs prior to departure so you have to take an early dinner or no dinner so it's better to eat in lounge
Same goes when you are in transit
With priority pass u pay $27
Food offered on some lounge like in Dubai is fantastic
To add unlimited WiFi access
So most important is lounge access
It Is good to have dry napkins, wet napkins and antibacteial gel as well. I always carry these items with me onboard.
I usually bring my reusable water bottle to fill after security, and then really nicely ask flight attendants to refill it when they make drink rounds
Thats a good idea. I fill mine up from the water fountains in the airport. I'm a bit iffy about airplane water unless its from a bottle.
Thanks Dan! :)
Thank you for mistake no 1! Just spent 11h working yesterday with payment for 5h only... Great
wow I feel very sorry for you, that should be like illegal...
That is not fair!
Uh what about bringing a light jacket?? Some planes are really cold *cough* American*cough* and the thin blanket they provide is just not enough.
I nearly got an Asthma attack from the second 'And I oop'
Oh dear hope your ok love from the goose. Haha👩✈️🍀🇬🇧🇺🇸✈️👨✈️
You made my day, this is AMAZING, I’m only 3 minutes in and my stomach already hurts from laughing!! 😂
"Dessert Salad same same" is my spirit animal's favorite inspirational quote 😁
Thanks for FYI on sequence number. Didn’t know that was on ticket!
Totally didn't realise one of the biggest mistakes I've been making for years is not making you money for affiliated products 🤦🏻♂️
Hahaha!
The Wandering Wife thank you! I’m glad some of us are on time lol😉
I’m too paranoid to have cash anywhere but on me. Love you bro.
Thanks for speaking for us
Respect
Cabin crew here!
Thanks for the heads up about the Priority Pass! I had never heard about it! 👍
Dont crowd the baggage belt when waiting for your bags!
This might sound stupid but I discovered lounges about a month ago and before that, I just thought that it was some crew area.
I too am only just on time to the airport/gate/etc. but do check in online ASAP (as soon as my app tells me to do so, typically 24 hours in advance) and NOW after watching this video, I’m glad I do 😆
Thanks for another useful, and humorous video!
"Flying sucks some people will say....and I agree!
Proceeds to travel by plane 😂😂😂 no hate btw it's just a a joke
I checked my old boarding passes for sequence numbers after you said about it and I’m usually a number above 30...so eager!!
Warm welcome from island Barbados love blog's which is always spot on.
Yes yes yes good point!
Thanks Dan for telling us about the sequence number. :-(
Make sure you use a suitcase/bag that is adequately sized for your luggage - especially when flying low-cost airlines that have lower weight/size limits on checked or carry-on bags.
Absolutely amazing. The jokes and the smooth advert loved it all. Thank you Dan
Nice garden Dan & the glorious ☀️😍
Ohhhh the upload finally happened!!! Yay!!! One more thing to NOT put into your suitcase: MEDS! If your suitcase gets lost or delayed, you are really in trouble without your meds.
Tiger's Eye yes yes yes!
Always put your destination adress on label on case always put your home adress inside case as a lot get lost in transit. Always carry your medication in hand luggage👩✈️🇬🇧🍀👨✈️🇺🇸
Dan makes a video. I gotta click. I stan this !
Hello Nonstop Dan very good advice you’ve given on your video and have watched lots of your videos with great enjoyment thanks
That was a very smooth ad I must say
loved the video Dan!!
I am going to be taking a trip to Australia next year and already planning on bringing two extra outfits in my carry on luggage not just one and books and of course a few books in my backpack which I will get out once I get to the terminal, so that I am not the one having to get up and get something out of the overhead while in flight.
Totally agree! Especially first mistake.
What a gorgeous garden, I was enjoying until you move inside your home. Thanks for the tips
Oh a home is where the heart is👨✈️✈️🇺🇸👩✈️💓🍀

No mention of TSA Precheck and/or Global Entry?
That's not a global thing tho :/
@@NonstopDan GLOBAL Entry?
You are so correct. No matter how much I fly, I arrive early to manage my anxiety.
Tiger's Eye I think the reason you can’t sleep is BECAUSE of the caffeine. Try a sleeping tablet instead :)
@@amberpaul4245 Haha, that would make sense if I had the coffee early, but I only drink coffee shortly before we reach the destination. I would try a sleeping pill but that thing would knock me out cold for more 9 or 10 hours. :-)
Tiger's Eye that’s the point 😛 I’m doing a 14hr 55min flight tomorrow 😭 I hope I sleep for 9 hours.
@@amberpaul4245 wow, good luck with that!! Where are you flying to and from? I did 12 hours LAX to AKL and that was rough.
Tiger's Eye
Athens to Abu Dhabi (3hr 40min) plus 1hr 10min stopover.
That's a great idea actually!
Remember, you're gonna want your chargers on a fight.
Thanks
I was literally on Crete 3 days ago
Excellent- you’re not only entertaining but also very informative! Thanks - keep them coming!
Thanks !
I luuuurve this video!! Dan you’re tips are amazing!!!
This channel made me love flying
11:03 is my favourite segment of this video. Great work!
I loved the kitty cameo! :)
I suggest - know where you are sitting. On my going to and on my return I had someone already in my assigned seat. Look on the airlines web site or SeatGuru where your seat is. Especially helpful on wide body aircraft. Bring a jacket, even if you're going to a topical location airplanes can be cold
OMG first I love your videos Dan and you say its hard to fly I completely love flying. And you to you are amazing 💛💛💛💛💛💛💛
ALWAYS check Seat Guru to select the best seat if you have the option to select seats beforehand, no more surprise wall where a window should be!
Dan, I love your channel. Now when I fly I totally look at the seats and judge them in my head! I have a question, what is the app that you use to manage all of your mileage plans? Hope you read this and reply.
I use awardwallet! :) awardwallet.com/register?ref=201&code=nonstopdan
Nonstop Dan thanks so much. Again really love watching your channel. Would love to see more of Oscar with you on your travels!
I rarely pack clothes in my carry on. I don’t care too much about over packing in my suitcase or my hand luggage. I often pack tons of entertainment and don’t use it all. Better to be prepared than bored.
keep doing you man, love the vids!
Maciej Ners thank you!🙏
9:34 "because...drama" there's always that moment in your videos where I laugh hard alone !!!
Ground Staff deserves some respect. They are always being yelled at when there is delay
0:04 literally all my flights are on Ryanair from Manchester I just wheezed
Your whole video is hilarious 😂
