Yes, Lufthansa pressed its 747-400 into the service between Frankfurt and Berlin-Tegel after the demise of Air Berlin. That was from November to December 2017 until the backlog of Air Berlin passengers was cleared up. Lufthansa put its first four 787-9 on Frankfurt-Munich route to train the flight and cabin crews as well as to weed out any teething issues before deploying them for the international flights.
I did with AirChina from Shanghai to Beijing. There is humongous demand on this rout. I also work with Lufthansa’s Operation control. We launched couple of a380 rotations like MUC-LEJ lasts week. And the shourt haul 747 fulfill the same purpose to train crew in the aircraft’s. Unfortunately much of crew (especially cabin) was let go during Covid or many did their bachelors degree in that time and work now in higher positions. However almost every third person from cabin crew is now new to the job and intensive training is necessary.
Flew on a Japan Airlines B747-300 "domestic special" from Tokyo to Sapporo as a teenager back in the late 80's. That thing was absolutely packed full of close-together placed seats, literally with an absence of the usual bulkheads & galleys found on typical long-haul versions. Didn't really matter though as the flight itself was like half an hour or something; was quite an experience though sitting right near the back (dad was a smoker so us kids all sat in the smoking section with him, as per 70's/80's parenting etiquette) and looking forward to an uninterrupted view of a vast sea of many hundreds of people all crammed into that thing.
There are regular 747 domestic flights in Iran with Mahan Air, although these are not advertised anywhere and they rarely appear on Flightradar. I had a chance recently to fly the business class on the upper deck for roughly 40$, mindblowing experience! 🙂
Oh no way, I was just in Iran and was wondering very specifically about if and how it would be possible to fly one of the Mahan 747s, It was pretty much just MD82/83 I took everywhere internally. I used to fly the 747SP and 200 between London and Tehran most summers in the 90s and never really got to say good bye to them. Other stop over flights like Turkish airlines started becoming way more affordable and before I knew it, the 747s were all retired or safety sanctioned before I could do one last flight with them!
@@mzjango For me it was pure luck. I bought the business class to Kerman because of how cheap it was. I though it would be the "fake", short-haul type of business, i.e. empty middle seat and decent dinner. Then the boarding was done by bus and when I saw the bus convoy is heading straight towards the 747, I couldn't believe my eyes! Anyway later I started searching a bit more and I found out the aircraft is most commonly seen on the Tehran-Kerman and Tehran-Bandar Abbas route.
@@cz.travelmaster So cool bro, I have family sprinkled between Tabriz, Tehran and Mashad so sounds like I'd be unlikely to hit that golden ticket even if i tried :D
They are German , what do you expect ? Much prefer German non warm efficiency to useful smiling useful idiots . Different strokes for different folks .
I love the 747. My first trip from L.A. to Hawaii was on a 747. My late aunt was an actress and print model and, not long ago, I searched the internet and found a brochure she had modeled for in the early 1970s for Continental Airlines 747 Polynesian Service with two on-board lounges and a pub. That's when flying was an experience, rather than just getting from place to place. The 747 is an awesome aircraft!
In 2021, I flew Lufthansa from Frankfurt to Mexico City in Business class. The configuration on that flight was much different from the one you were one. But way back in 1976, I flew domestically from Phoenix to Chicago on an American Airlines 747. It had a piano lounge on the upper deck (I was too young to be admitted). Back in those days folks dressed up to fly and there wasn't any of the current chaos when boarding. Much more civilized.I really enjoyed this video of yours. I am glad to know that you went from a broke kid traveling Europe to being able to afford a Porche (and a very cool yellow one at that). Your RUclips career has really paid off. You have earned it and I enjoy watching your adventures. As a matter of fact your video about Greenland Air encouraged me to do a Greenland adventure back in February. So yes, you are both informative and influencial. It would be great to bump into you one day in the air. Thanks for your efforts.
Wonderful video, Josh! Love the history and your journey to where you are now! The past few years I now pay closer attention to airports and historical planes I may see when I travel, thanks to you! Blessings, Jennifer
Hi Josh, it's Tim Edmunds, one of your followers ever since day one. I have always loved your work and have never missed a single one. During this one you offered a challenge, the driving challenge, I want to take you up on that?! There's NO WAY you could ever outdrive me! Let's see? Up to you now mate? Regards etc. Tim.
I also took this flight. It was a truly amazing experince I will never forget. It was so nice to take this flight with so many other avgeeks and even having the chance to talk to you for a moment. Thank you for making this amazing video.
Ps really liked 2nd half / montage. Reminded me of my youth (before mortgage, marriage, parenthood and pension) when I had good fortune of travelling 7 times round the world. Always recall message from Tony Wheeler (founder of Lonely Planet guides) in the back of the guides (courtesy of my 1996 NZ Lonely Planet Guide !) “Don’t worry whether your trip will work out. Just go” ! Very sound advice.
Was lucky enough to fly in a Swiss 777, 340 and 330 between Zurich and Geneva. In the past, Royal Jordanian and even Thai 747 flew the 30 min journey between zrh and gva...but that is another story. Welcome to my country!!
The first time I saw a 747 at the airport as a child, I fell in love with aviation. The queen of the skies will always be my favourite because it always looks like it is smiling. It is such a graceful aircraft.
I flew once on the D-ABVX. It was in March 2007 from Buenos Aires/EZE to Sao Paulo/GRU. At that time, this plane had a soccer ball drawn on its nose. Awesome! :)
As a son of a former Arline pilot I have been able to fly on may planes, 727, 737, 757, DC-9, DC-10, L1011, MD80, Dash8, Embraer EMB-110 Bandeirante, Short360, BA146, A319, A320. I have never been on a 747 and I know I will never make on one which saddens me. It is a beautiful plane.
Great video - loved it and yes I did fly a 747 domestically - Dublin to Shannon. Shannon stopover was mandatory in 70s and 80s when flying to USA from Dublin
Love love love this video. Mini Josh so cute. Interesting to see another part of your job and learning your other interests. Great to know the Afghan crew is safe and doing well. Take care
I as Malaysian, i want to said is Thank You Josh Cahill about good and bad review Malaysia Airlines flight. Since then, Malaysia Airlines improve a lot and i hope Malaysia Airlines will become successful airlines in the future. In addition, i hope you will come back to Malaysia and have a nice aviation enthusiastic meetup too^^
Nice Porsche! You may not have been comfortable, but you made an impressive entrance. It's like wearing really beautiful heals. You look amazing, but your feet are killing you!🙂
Lufthansa is one of those airlines for the avgeeks, i mean they're the only airline left to operate the 747, A340 and A380 at the same time even if the 747-400s leave the 747-8s will hopefully live on with the airline.
I have been on this lovely bird many years ago - a few times on the lower deck in C - then a few times on the upper deck when it was F in those days - and then it was one of a very new addition to the LH fleet when I just received the SEN status back then. early 2000...think it was started service around 1998 or 1999...thanks and best of greetings from Frank, Najomtien!
Josh, there are still 747-430 flights from Frankfurt to Toronto. I do not know when LH will pull the 747 from that route though, but LH seems to operate them on many routes like to India... I reckon to have seen a 787 in Toronto the days after my arrival to Mississauga. I did the YYZ route recently and LH even upgraded me to Business. 8 hours in Business was such a treat. So many meals at once. I did not find it that awful, since I mostly fly Euro Business or Economy. LH has so much potential. I have never flown domestically with the 747.
Josh you are an amazing young man. Thank you for sharing your beginnings and history. I often wondered on your reviews how all this started with you. Your respect and kindness for all countries and people is beautiful. Your honesty and telling it like it is often puts these carriers in check and rightly so. Thank you for sharing your travels. I always look forward to your next adventure. Stay safe buddy.
I flew on the 747 back in 1998 from Frankfurt to New York JFK as I was leaving Germany after living there for 6 years. Awesome video Josh. I'm sorry about Fc Schalke 04. They've been relegated again to the Zweite Bundesliga. Keep up the great work. All the best.
Hey Josh! I never flew on a 747 domestically.... but my first international flight in 1989 was on a Lufthansa 747-230 from Boston to Frankfurt. I was a solo traveler at 17 years old! My first widebody was also my first flight - Delta L-1011 from Boston to Florida with my family in 1983. I was only 12 so I don't remember much about it other than the old pneumatic soundtube ear phones, back when the last channel was ATC.
I just loved this video, Josh. I don’t know why, but I got all emotional watching your clips from the very beginning of your journey. How amazing!! And the all female crew from Afghanistan? It was beautiful, and then I learned you also are a speaker and educate?! You’re just amazing!!
Josh and Lufthansa, name a more iconic hate-love-hate relationship! Loved the 744 and avgeeking. Just one constructive criticism it would have been great to hear a bit more from Mohadese about what she's up to now, it felt like you were kind of talking over her a bit in that segment.
Hi Josh! You and Noel and some more true aviation fans and bloggers always inspire me to continue my aviation (not 100% aviation, but nevertheless :)) youtube channel, searching for new interesting destinations, new reasons for flying and filming that. ANd I am glad that channel is growing. I am learning from you and others how to make my videos better. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
I remember when I was around 14 or 15, me and my dad were driving through Heathrow to do a little bit of plane spotting, and a BA 747 came into land literally about 500 feet above of our heads I will absolutely never forget it ❤
I flew a DC 10 from Elkins, West Virginia to Baltimore, Maryland when I was in college. First time flying. It was scary flying over the Appalachian Mountains.
that schalke 04 jacket was a trip down memory lane, when i first meet my now death uncle from germany that work for the club and come to norway to visit mom and dad and had a gift for me, a full soccer kit set for schalke 04. all that in late 70"srom
this 747 is same age as mine! i was and still surprised the Lufthansa's 747-400 is back to service after pandemic after thought it will be retried! the second part of the video actually is gives me a big hope for my life, not only as avgeeks, for anything what are looking for in my or anyone's life!
Amazing video like always, can’t wait for the Turkmenistan Airlines review, and also it would be very interesting an Airbus A340-600 review on Conviasa, the flag carrier of Venezuela on the Tehran - Caracas route, I’m guessing that would be such an experience, and within Latin America there are some smaller and more exotic airlines out there, such as Boliviana de Aviación, the flag carrier of Bolivia, I know that Noel Philips reviewed them a few years ago on their now soon to be retired Boeing 767-300s and Boeing 737-300s, they just received two Airbus A330-200s with a third one coming sometime soon, so you could first airline reviewer to review their A330-200, and you also could try their Boeing 737-800s.
Omg, that’s me in the photo at uni. I look half asleep in the first photo but look really interested in the next, so I guess it balances out. I always remember your visit to UCB in Birmingham, Josh and now you’re my favourite RUclipsr.
Great video as always. Sorry about Schalke yesterday though. Shame as we played them a few times in the Champions league and I got to go home and away with my team to Gelsenkirchen. I hope they are back up next season. Enjoy your videos as always.
Hi Josh, another great video, but I was to correct a mistake that this isn’t the domestic only 747 flight, there are still some in China such as Shanghai to Beijing.
SO sad to see the QUEEN of the sky 747 being retired . my first time I flew on one was on United from IAD and remember just how spacious and comfortable it was. And so many flight attendants working the flight. Surely will be missed
Josh... never stop to be you..i know you want to inspire people, but you already do! I wish you a lot of blue sky above and in the cockpit 3 greens below. Keep taking us on you adventures, and i think i can say this in the name of a lot of your folowers..... we see the world of aviation and travel the globe becouse of you... bitte hört niemals auf die welt zu entdecken.
Well if you got contacts to get on a cargo flight, there are "Supernumerary seats" even on the MD-11 freighter where you can ride as a "passenger" Usually used for seating horse handlers when flying horses for an example or crew movement.
I used to fly on the upper deck of the Delta 747-400 all the time. I definitely miss it. Especially planning 747-400 Combi flights. Those were the days. 😊
I was totally not expecting to hear my country's airline, MIAT, at the end. Being a student pilot myself, I'm hoping to fly at that airline and maybe seeing you on board. I hope you have a great time in Mongolia!
I rememeber those flights where you got the death threats and backlash. I enjoy watching how you are just moving forward and not letting the downers get to you. It sucks still you cant come to the states cause id love to meet you in person one day. Maybe when i return to japan or vietnam ill bump into you and we can grab some food. Thank you for the videos and keep them coming.
Josh, you should return to China soon trying the ARJ21-700 and C919. Air China also use Boeing 747-400 and its 747-8 from Shanghai/Shenzhen to Beijing, so thats also worth a try.
Did a domestic 747 flight in Japan with ANA (SR variant). Have also flown on a 747-200 domestically with United between Denver and Chicago. Also managed flights on 747-100, 747-200, 747SP, 747-200SUD, 747-300 and 747-400. Also flown on the DC10 and MD11. The oldest airliners I have flown on are the DC3 and JU52. I have even managed a freight flight on o Trislander between Guernsey and Alderney with Aurigny.
WOW WOW MR Have never flown a 747 but have cleaned one at Manchester airport yes it was years ago The only big plain I have flown on was the Caledonian Tri STAR and yes I did actually clean it too and cleaned the last tri star that landed at Manchester airport the passengers got off and did a quick clean, as it was de commissioned and heading for the grave yard in America 😢and another WOW how you started on UTUBE AMAZING MR have watched most of your posts especially was it Malaysia airlines not allowing you to film Not good customer relations hope things are better now with you n them Thank you for your work and reports love them 👍👍👍👍👍👍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Just to let you know, this is not actually the last one for delivering flights, there were still one by Saudia Airlines that is operating flughts from Algiers to Jeddah in Saudia arabia
i actually saw you arriving into Hamburg i just was getting ready for school and then i saw a 747 from Lufthansa over me and you finally visited my local airport hamburg :)
Loved to see you were in my hometown of lausanne. Cute small airport without commercial flight but I wish you to someday make a flight review landing there 😊
Sport cars didn't make for long rides :) but the Porsche is beautiful! Thank you Josh for all your hard work. I highly appreciate the fact you don't take free flights like other RUclipsrs. Continue with the great work and check Arkia airline from TLV to Colombo. Cheers!
Wow dc10 those were the days I was 13 y.o. when i first flew i was with my mother, my father was a Pan American airlines employee for 33 yrs and yhis airline sustained us, we were always ipgraded to 1st vlass a courtesy passengers, forever grateful for the priveleges. I saw Noel's vid on his flight with Air Mongolia to ulanbataar he had a great time.
Fun fact, Air China also operates the boeing 747-400 occasionally on Beijing-Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chongqing, Chengdu and Shanghai. The airline also operates scheduled domestic 747-8 flights from Beijing-Guangzhou and Beijing-Shanghai.
Wow, you finally made it to my home airport and turned around on the spot😢 Hamburg really is worth a stop for at least a weekend. On your video, you showed the Airbus runway at Finkenwerder, where the A320 series is produced, the A380 used to get their interior and nowadays the A350's are equipped with their cabins. It's cool you could fly the queen of the skies within Germany, funny I haven't seen her. There are 747's coming to Hamburg more often, due to the Lufthansa Technic Base. Yesterday, I saw two. One from middle east, but I have no clue about the other (having a red tail) Funny you experienced a Porsche is not the most convenient long distance car😄 Your own review was very cool 👍 Congrats to your archivements! That really is impressive, coming from hitchhiking to speaking in front of Airline Ceo's at lake Geneva in such a pretty short time period. I am eager to see where the path will lead you to in the future.
Did you ever fly a 747 domestically? Let me know... follow me on instagram.com/gotravelyourway for daily updates :)

its a 4 star 😂

"Simply the best" Josh as Tina used to sing. Great video all around. Loved that hotel room in Switzerland.
Hi Josh thanks for a great review of the domestic 747 flight and the little trip to Switzerland looked fantastic.
This amazingly beautiful with an emotional touch . Thank you Josh . Hopefully our paths cross in the airport one of these days 😮💨🙌🏾❤
Lausanne has been my city for lot's of years! THE NAME OF THE LAKE IS "LEMAN LAKE" NOT "GENEVA LAKE"! Great Video from Beau Rivage Palace Lausanne!

Dear Josh, Thank you for all your videos and hard work in making these great videos. Stay safe and fly high. A

I’ve always associated the 747-400 with British Airways. It’s like the two were synonymous.
16:38 The Armoire with the gun rack on top In the background looks like A GIANT FRIGHTENING ROBOT FACE!! I just want people to see what I see.

Loved the 744 and avgeeking. Just one constructive criticism it would have been great to hear a bit more from Mohadese about what she's up to now, it felt like you were kind of talking over her a bit in that segment.
What a pity you didn‘t get the fantastic view of Hamburg while landing… 🥺 Viele Grüße aus Hamburg! ⚓️
No I hate Noel...
@@Alex-ym7tr why? You should add some sarcastic view and humor to what you see, and then you should see that at the other angle. :)
@@stanleovart um ok
I remember when I was around 14 or 15, me and my dad were driving through Heathrow to do a little bit of plane spotting, and a BA 747 came into land literally about 500 feet above of our heads I will absolutely never forget it ❤
I flew a DC 10 from Elkins, West Virginia to Baltimore, Maryland when I was in college. First time flying. It was scary flying over the Appalachian Mountains.
Is the runway in Elkins long enough to accommodate a DC-10? Martinsburg WV, no problem.
Well done josh, a real inspiration to lots of people
that schalke 04 jacket was a trip down memory lane, when i first meet my now death uncle from germany that work for the club and come to norway to visit mom and dad and had a gift for me, a full soccer kit set for schalke 04. all that in late 70"srom
❤ Lufthansa 747-400! Regards from Zurich ! Keep up the great and unbiased work!
My favourite RUclipsr, Very calm and collective
As as freelancer , I have the joy of the 744 ERF/BDS/SCF. The Queen, hundreds are up there every night.
this 747 is same age as mine! i was and still surprised the Lufthansa's 747-400 is back to service after pandemic after thought it will be retried!
the second part of the video actually is gives me a big hope for my life, not only as avgeeks, for anything what are looking for in my or anyone's life!
8:45 Had the chance to go inside a MD-11 freighter during my internship. Absolutely amazing experience.
In terms of big commercial aircraft’s nothing will replace the Boing 747; to many great memories.
Thank you for sharing your story, Josh. I really look forward to your videos!
Very nice Video! Thank you Josh
I love your excitement about this!! Happy travels ❤
Josh... never stop to be you..i know you want to inspire people, but you already do!
My first flyte was From Frankfurt to Atlanta and then to Los Angeles with the 747.loved it
Well if you got contacts to get on a cargo flight, there are "Supernumerary seats" even on the MD-11 freighter where you can ride as a "passenger"
Usually used for seating horse handlers when flying horses for an example or crew movement.
I used to fly on the upper deck of the Delta 747-400 all the time. I definitely miss it. Especially planning 747-400 Combi flights. Those were the days. 😊
Great video Josh. Really enjoyed it. Thankyou.
Nice choice of automobile! That song on the radio though, brought me back 20 years to my youth! LOL
I flew it from Johannesburg to Frankfurt as my first international flight. I’m very privileged.
Vielleicht habe ich hier etwas falsch verstanden - Du warst doch kein Obdachloser...
Egal.
Dein Weg ist super! Weiter so.
Besten Gruss
Frank
I was totally not expecting to hear my country's airline, MIAT, at the end. Being a student pilot myself, I'm hoping to fly at that airline and maybe seeing you on board. I hope you have a great time in Mongolia!
Josh, Saudia still flies 3 B744’s until at least next year, operated by Air Atlanta. They are also used on regular routes by the way.
Amazing!
So awesome and beautiful this video Josh! 🤩😍👍🏼✈️😊
There is also Rosita airlines in Russia and operates currently on even some domestic routes, though rarely cause of sanctions
WOW WOW MR
Have never flown a 747 but have cleaned one at Manchester airport yes it was years ago
The only big plain I have flown on was the Caledonian Tri STAR and yes I did actually clean it too and cleaned the last tri star that landed at Manchester airport the passengers got off and did a quick clean, as it was de commissioned and heading for the grave yard in America 😢and another WOW how you started on UTUBE AMAZING MR have watched most of your posts especially was it Malaysia airlines not allowing you to film
Not good customer relations hope things are better now with you n them
Thank you for your work and reports love them 👍👍👍👍👍👍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Always good to have a passengers side
Just to let you know, this is not actually the last one for delivering flights, there were still one by Saudia Airlines that is operating flughts from Algiers to Jeddah in Saudia arabia
i actually saw you arriving into Hamburg i just was getting ready for school and then i saw a 747 from Lufthansa over me and you finally visited my local airport hamburg :)
Just had an 13hrs flight on the queen of the skies (747-8). Still an amazing plane, nothing beats the upper deck.
I flew domestically from SFO to Hawaii on a 747 in 1990. I don’t remember much about it because I was 5.
Lovely video. Very inspiring! And nice to see we drive the same car (although mine is the older 987).
Loved to see you were in my hometown of lausanne. Cute small airport without commercial flight but I wish you to someday make a flight review landing there 😊
The dc 10 was my favorite plane to work when I was a FA for Continental Airlines
I’ve only sat in the upper deck of a 747 once. Spring 1993. British airways from Toronto to London.
Sport cars didn't make for long rides :) but the Porsche is beautiful! Thank you Josh for all your hard work. I highly appreciate the fact you don't take free flights like other RUclipsrs. Continue with the great work and check Arkia airline from TLV to Colombo. Cheers!
Wow dc10 those were the days
I was 13 y.o. when i first flew i was with my mother, my father was a Pan American airlines employee for 33 yrs and yhis airline sustained us, we were always ipgraded to 1st vlass a courtesy passengers, forever grateful for the priveleges. I saw Noel's vid on his flight with Air Mongolia to ulanbataar he had a great time.
We get it Josh. It's the queen of skies
Wow, you finally made it to my home airport and turned around on the spot😢
Hamburg really is worth a stop for at least a weekend.
One from middle east, but I have no clue about the other (having a red tail)
Funny you experienced a Porsche is not the most convenient long distance car😄
Your own review was very cool 👍
Congrats to your archivements! That really is impressive, coming from hitchhiking to speaking in front of Airline Ceo's at lake Geneva in such a pretty short time period.
I am eager to see where the path will lead you to in the future.
Fantastic. Would love to see a video on your journey to finding the Lacoste brand.
