- Land Rover Range Rover L322 2001-2012 Buyers guide for 2.9 TD6, 4.4 BMW V8, 3.6 TDV8, Jaguar 4.4 V8, 4.2 Supercharged V8, 4.4 TDV8, and 5.0 V8 and 5.0 Supercharged V8. Avoid buying a broken Range Rover and find the L322 Range Rover that can go off-road and on-road without breaking the bank. Avoid the mistakes of buying a broken Land Rover as a project and attempting to fix a broken Range Rover. This buyer's guide covers the L322 Range Rover from 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012 in all trims from SE to HSE, and Vogue to Vogue SE, as well as the Autobiography and Westminster. The Land Rover Range Rover Vogue L322 has become iconic for its shape and capability, however, owners and buyers may be nervous about reliability so we have created our guide to help inform.
The issues discussed in our buyer's guide to the L322 Range Rover include wheel arch rust and repair, TDV8 turbo issues, and timing chain guides for the V8 and Supercharged V8. We also discuss the benefits and downsides of the petrol and diesel engines and give information on the mpg of the TDV8, Supercharged V8, and naturally aspirated 4.4.V8.

The biggest problem with the l322 is that it makes you fall in love with it to the point nothing else comes close.
So true
Yep
Yes
Living it, I did finally order an L460 v8, after 20yrs. I plan to keep the L322 though; I can’t let her go.
Yep. Got it in one.
I bought my 2010 Autobiography as a compromise between family and v8. It's been marvelous ever since and the community is awesome. Most of the issues arising after 100'000 kilometers can be fixed by yourselves. It's a wonderful car and a proper range rover
You sold it already?
I think this is about the most complete and accurate roundup of L322 models I've seen, well done!
We really appreciate comments like this, it makes all the hard work worth it 👍
Have owned my 2008 MY Sport TDV8 since new. Just lovely…….
I drive a since new, 2004 L322 with the 4.4L BMW NA V8. 237k miles, I love her.
Amazing job!! This is by far the most complete guide for l322 buyers. Since I'm in the USA I only know the petrol variants, and without a doubt the 4.4 and 4.2 SC jag engines are pretty solid if you are committed to take care of them.
Same with Canada, I just bought a Tonga green 05 with the 4.4 BMW, runs awesome, a bit of surface rust on rear QP but I'll do the bodywork, it won't move in gear and my buddy was going to take it to the scrapyard and I said the hell with that and give a staggering 400$ for it
I’ve owned a 2010 l322 for just over a year ,first thing I did was get the gear box oil changed ,year on had a full service and mot,no problems at all ,nowt gone wrong with it ,now done 128000 miles, drove all the way to south of France and back did 2500 miles in 2 weeks ,never missed a beat ,fantastic motors ,yes like any car can be expensive to fix ,but most of the time it’s how you look after it ,to my mind that goes for any car, took a bit of time to grow on me as I had a Merc sl before this my fav car of all time ,but then grandchild came along so pushchair, kids seat and all the other gear you need for kids lol,I now love this car ,only thing I regret is not buying a petrol one then could have converted it to gas ,might still do that yet will see
omg, just recently bought a 2008 ,have been watching loads of videos, it is so strange i had a concern about rust in a few places, this is mentioned within a few mins of watching, wheel arches inside step, and bottom on rear door, but i am enjoying this car so much,so money shall be spent if need be, plus i have a receipt from previous owner who spent £3500 on turbo etc
One of the best L322 videos out there, well done👍🏻
Really appreciate the comment 😁
Nice video, I have had a lot of them. I have had a failing (melting) wiring loom for the navi computer in the rear on two early cars. I also had a failing heater resistance, draining the battery on a TD6. With that car, during over 300k km, I have changed injectors and air bulges, not much more. My last was a 4.4 tdv8, sold with around 500k km. Great cars.
l322 3.0 bmw engine the one to go for comfort and a lovely drive a credit to range rover
Love my 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue. Yes it has it's foibles, not least gremlins in the electronics, but it's a genuine off-road vehicle that's as comfortable in the fells as on the road and is fantastic value for the £10,400 I paid. Just budget for regular maintenance spend. So far I've spent £1800 in 16 months including new rear discs and calipers (it's a heavy car).
Professional presentation. Perfectly done. Thank you very much.
No start scenario I've experienced 3 TDV8 3.6 ( I'm on my 6th FF L322 🙈)
suffer NO start scenario with just a clonking sound from the starter motor .......... will probably be quickly be resolved by adding a second negative lead from battery negative terminal to the spare earthing terminal on nearside front strut top mount.....
I've had 3 TDV8 s with this same scenario, learnt the hard way after changing loads of new parts.
( new battery, new ignition barrel ,new starter motor, new maxi fused positive starter motor feed ,new fuse box etc.etc.)
It's a earth lead corrosion/ impedance fault.
Great cars when behaving themselves but nightmare to change turbos ,vanos, timing chains etc etc...
For this reason I prefer a properly sorted P38 as my daily workhorse, lot, lot easier to work on 🤠
Best L322 review I have ever watched! Thanks!
Thanks for the comment it is really appreciated 👍
@@themilesdriven Your welcome, although I'm not happy because I think I now need to buy one!😂
I own 2 l322 petrol I supercharged and vogue // prefer petrol version / and avoid to deal with turbo issue / subscribed nice summary !!!
Thanks for the comment 😁
Great round up..... I would be happy with the 3.6 tdv8 2009 onwards but my heart and head say save a little more and get the 4.4 tdv8.....pretty much as you said.
Yeah tough decision between the two TDV8s, but the 4.4 just edges ahead for us as well 😁
My 2008 is a great ride and very capable in rugged conditions. However, it takes $ to keep running and maintained. Not a Toyota for reliability but still a great and imposing truck. Love the tailgate, too.
Auto Gearbox service is crucial! TD6
Yes good point 👍
I am on a 2008 Vogue and for tyres I can highly recommend Falken 520 suv , especially if most of your driving is on the road. Sorpions are about £30-50 a tyre more expensive
We've been looking to get a new set of the tyres on the L322 we bought for the channel. Thanks for adding this info, did you get these in the 255/50 20/size?
@@themilesdriven yes same size
Great video. I have a 2003 L322 with only 120k miles that I purchased brand new 12/2022. It’s been an amazing car with minimal repairs…but the head gasket is now starting to fail. (Exhaust is getting into the coolant system). The cost to repair/replace the gasket is being quoted between $15k-$20k!!! Apparently these head gaskets are a known issue so now I need to decide to repair the gasket or replace the entire engine. Ugh 😩
@JJ Jackson Great to hear you've had 20 years of great motoring. The quote for repair of head gaskets had us fall off our chair. The parts for the job should cost less than $1,000 if it just needs a head gasket replacement, or are they quoting a full engine rebuild? Either way it may be best getting another quote 👍
@@doublewhopper67I agree…the independent repair shop quotes have been insane and the dealership won’t even touch the job. They just recommend a new engine. I don’t get it and it’s been a very frustrating experience. The car is still drivable but on occasion, the coolant expansion tank will burst open with boiling coolant because exhaust is seeping into the coolant system due to the bad head gasket. Especially during the hot summer season. There is no smoke coming out of the tailpipe yet which indicates which portion of the head gasket is breaking down.
20k wtf are you talking about you can get the engine replaced for that lmfao
You can buy a new range for that 😂😂😂
Thanks for the video, few things I wasn't aware of👍 I have a 2012 4.4 TDV8 AB. Love it and had loads of work done to keep it in good order. Exercise the turbos regularly too, once warmed up😎 look forward to your next one. 👍
Thanks for your comment we're glad you enjoyed the video and we agree on making sure the turbos get regular spool up 😁 Our latest video just released, this time we covered the early L322's on-road cousin, the E53 BMW X5 👍
I’ve had my 2011 4.4 for 4 years. It’s great! Usual upkeep but worth it 100%.
Lovely job...im so tempted! But what work have you had done? ££
Cheers e53 x5d at mo
@@JeffoJonJ ha great question. Too much to list!!! Mostly preventative maintenance, rather than due to issues.. would recommend one, just keep some money back for emergencies! Good luck with your search...👍
Slight correction here. The westminster was not just available in the later years of the l322 generation. I can confirm since I own a 2004 westminter edition l322 that is a pre-facelift model with the bmw engine.
Had mine for 10 years.....trouble free I may add....Tdv8..
Great information. Thanks for video 👍👍
Thanks for the comment 😁
For Uk, 3.6 V8 with a 6 speed or better 4.4 V8 Diesel with the 8 speed auto is your best option.
Cheers buddy 👍.... looking for the one as we speak....
🇬🇧
Thank you for the important information❤
I love my TD6 Vogue 2003
Great to hear 😁
The l322 comes first the wife comes second 😂
Great video. Knowledgable people.
Thank you, comments like this are really appreciated 😁
Well done and nicely explained, Cheers mate!
Thanks for the comment 😁
Awesome summary and keep them coming!
Thanks for the comment. We will do!
Common fault is is the central locking mainly on the driver's door sealed unit cost about £60 to buy plus labour
Thanks for the great videos. I'm a proud new owner of a L322 3.6 TdV8 2007 with 115k miles on the clock, and love it, though while going through the list of jobs i can do myself to improve MPG, since replacing the air intake filter from a Mann to a Pipercross (which have great reviews), the fuel consumption has gone from a dismal 16 mpg (driving efficiently) down to 11.9 mpg, i was expecting the opposite effect tbh. I feel its drinking far too much while idling. I would appreciate a pointer and the service video you mentioned in the 50mpg try video :) Thanks. Support will follow as requested.
Agreed that it seems to be using more fuel than would be expected. We would just quickly mention that although the pipercross filter may have better reviews if it is less restrictive then you have increased air to combustion chamber which will be matched by more fuel to keep the standard ratio of fuel to air, but this should be marginal. It may be worth getting an OE paper filter and doing some A/B testing.
Three things we will note.
Have you checked the vehicle has all the standard emissions equipment? If the catalytic converters have been gutted or removed but not remapped out of the ECU the motor could run be running in the start up fuel/air ratio all the time. It is also common to hear of EGR's getting blanked or removed on the 3.6 TDV8.
Has the engine oil/transmission oil/differential oil been changed recently? Alone these three shouldn't make a huge differences but old oil may be adding additional friction across the drivetrain, forcing the engine to work harder,
Any sign of a seized caliper? with how torque heavy the TDV8 is, it may not be as noticeable.
Let us know how you get on 👍
TDV8 should be doing 25mpg! Are you sure it's a TDV8 and not a petrol V8?
Thanks JL 😆, I'm getting 30mpg on the motorway at 70mph and 40mpg at 56mph on the flat. It's idling at traffic lights that is very expensive.
Superb info, really appreciated 👍🏻
Thanks, appreciate the comment 😎
brilliant presentation thanks
Thanks, we've got more L322 content coming up soon 😁
Look for corroded boot struts, they are seldom washed. Air Conditioning evaporator core replacement can be an expensive repair.
Great to have people adding their insights in the comments. Nice one 👍
👌 STILL THE BEST!
👍
Great video. Would like to see more on the l322
Thanks for the comment, we do plan to re-visit the L322 in the future
I own a l322 2003 4.6L v8 petrol.
I faced abs ecu issues and air susp control issues.
Mechanics told me to fix will cost me 800usd but i was smart to buy my own obd scanner and found can bus faults.
Found some corroded electric wires because of water leak under the glove box.
I did reconnect them and all faults stopped.
Now the only problem is the srs ecu fault and high fuel consumption.
My engine is in great condition but lately my transmition is showing trans fail prog on dash board.
My obd scanner cannot find faults.
I think it is bacause i spilled a hot drink on the low range and downhill control and the bottons console making the inner pcb to fail.
Can anyone give me some advices?
I've owned 4 threwout the yrs my favorite cars of all time💯
Great to hear 👍
Would love a FFRR.
Looking as far as reliability goes, the 4,4. 2011 or 2012 is the budget pick.
The 4.4 TDV8 is a good engine 😁
Love the video!!! I'm also intrested in getting one for myself.......... preferably out England, right hand..
Many thanks and all the best with your car search 👍
thank you
No worries, all the best 👍
Avoid scorpion verdes. I've had tread separation from the cord on 3 tyres. I use Scorpion Zero instead.
Nice video. I just purchased a 2012 supercharged. I was hoping to see towing options in this video. My car doesn’t appear to have a towing package but I am not sure.
We’re currently working on an extended guide for the L322 to include towing specs but 3,500kg is the LR spec on the L322 👍
I just bought a 2012 supercharged in April2024 and love it, in TX. Praying for no issues...
I got a 03 tdv6 on there log book it says is a se but is got there heated steering wheel tv in the headrests I know it got a full 2010 styling kit with overfinch bumpers, spoiler and wheels is my first range rover and tony banks exhaust at there price I payed for it if does ever need a gear box or anything it will get it is done 175k already
Sounds like whoever originally specified it picked a lot of optional extras 😁
Great video!
Thanks for the comment 😁
Great info as always I am looking for a good 2011 or 2012 L322 4.4 wish me Luck
Thanks and best of luck car shopping 😁
I have a beautiful 2012 for sale 84000 mibent on the inside almost meant on the outside super charged all the Bells and whistles
So in general what engine should I go for?and face lift or non facelift?
Great video !!!
We recently bought a 3.6 TDV8 2007 model for the channel so you can check out that video for more but we do give our picks at the end of this video. Lower budget then the 4.2 supercharged will be more costly to run day to day but has fewer repair worries, higher budget then a later 4.4 TDV8 👍
Great up load however I have either the luck of the gods or I just buy my cars well I have owned one of these now for over 5 years 02 model
the only issue being the ignition key "will not start the car " So I simply by passed all the flash stuff and put in a seperate switch toggle switch problem solved !! No air bag issues No other electrical issues just a bloody great car at a fantastic price So So comfy to drive why on this earth would you not want one ?? Ok fuel consumption is not the best but if thats all you care about go and get an Electric car for thousands and thousands more pounds drive it for a few years and see what its worth with half used batteries I paid 6K for this car and I honestly think I will get around the 4K mark if i sell 2K loss not so bad Factor that into the other costs and the fuel issue is not an issue trust me Mine is a diesel !! To all the purists that are going to take me down re electric just look at what damage is made to get the electric cars up and running then and only then make a comment because the electric thing is a load off bolocks and if you dont get it you are as thick as a heavy custard and are a sheep following all the other sheep whilst the wolf is ripping you off good style !!!!! Rant over but at least have a fucking think !!
Thanks for the comment and glad your one is still going well. As we joked in our L320 Range Rover Sport buyer's guide, many people think Range Rovers are bad news because of what someone told them, but owners tell us they love their car, especially the L322
TV bun
Hey great videos. You should make video about discovery buying guide.
Look forward for the video
It's as if you read our minds! 😁 We are currently working on next weeks buying guide and it is for the Land Rover Discover 3/4 (LR3/LR4). 👍
Can't wait 😁
@Reza Rizky Our Discovery Buyer's guide is now live 😁
@@themilesdriven watching it right now
My Discovery 4 engine seized on the M5 towing a caravan, it appears the crankshaft failed, which seems to be a common fault according to the recovery guy!!
Best L322 version is the petrol 2006-2010.
I think this is the most reliable Rover they ever had
6:15 lol u can tell its Clackson just by the size of his head 😄😄😄..bw are the 4.2SC models LPG friendly?
Can't have Range Rover footage without a bit of Clarkson 😁 as far as we understand none of the Jaguar engines (4.4 V8 and 4.2 Supercharged) are well suited to LPG. However if there are owners that know different it would be great to get their feedback. Anecdotally researching for this video we found several L320 Sport and L322 Range Rovers in good condition selling exceptionally cheap because they were in need of a motor and all bar one were LPG converted. This isn't an exact study but hope it helps 👍
Thanks for the detailed insights, very helpful.
Quick qtn for you: When deciding between the 3.6 TDV8 and the 4.4 TDV8 (assuming both have similar trim) which one has the better / more robust gearbox and why?
Hi, and thanks for the comment. The 4.4TDV8 gets the 8-speed automatic ZF unit which increases fuel efficiency and the 3.6 TDV8 gets a 6-speed. Both gearboxes are considered reliable with a low failure rate although we would recommend a flush or oil change change upon purchase unless supplied with proof of it being done recently. The gearbox of most concern in the L322 is the GM unit fitted to 2.9td6 motor (01-06) but since you didn't mention this one we assume you aren't considering it, Well kept L322s are out there on both the V8 diesels with over 200,000 miles and still on the original gearbox (usually these have had a least one transmission fluid change in their lifetime). If faster response is important then the 4.4TDV8 is better, but if the budget gets a nicer lower mileage 3.6TDV8 then this is just as attractive. Note that the 3.6TDV8 of the 2009 facelift model does not get the Brembo brakes of the 4.4TDV8. It may be worth watching our segment about the engines again just to see what maintenance/common failures you feel more comfortable with as these two suffer different common issues. Good luck with the search! 😁
@@themilesdriven Thanks a lot, that's very insightful, exactly what I needed. I'll prioritise the 4.4 TDV8 in my search with the VOGUE SE trim as recommended but also keep an eye out for a well kept, well priced 3.6 TDV8. Also noted the specific issues to look out for in each model.
I'm subscribed and look forward to future L322 videos.
Great to hear, and best of luck with your search for an L322 😁
English - Thanks for the information about the Ford TDV8 and fuel economy
Which Range Rover would be best to fit an lpg system on to? With the fuel prices currently that seems like the right thing to do…
LPG systems don't seem to get on so well with the 4.4 Jaguar V8, the supercharged units are less commonly fitted with the system so harder to advise. On the BMW 4.4 V8 of the early L322 we've heard mixed views. 😁
I am planing to buy 3.6 tdv8 engine 2010 manufactured
HAD A 3.6. NOW HAVE A 2011 4.4 . 3.6 HAD A BETTER EXHAUST TONE. SOUNDED LIKE A V8. 4.4 VERY TAME SOUND . NO V8 SOUND
Thanks for the comment, and certainly something we will listen out for now that you've mentioned it 👍
I have a 2011 Vogue tdv8. Recently , about 2 weeks ago, my driver seat seems to be squeaking alot , most notably when i raise it up or lower it down.. May i knw the best option on how to repair it ? i have sprayed wd40 along the tracks to no avail unfortunately..
Having a similar issue with the 2007 L322 we recently purchased (first video on it came out recently if you want to check it out). Have you checked the torque specification on the bolts holding it in place? If so, is the leather rubbing up against the plastic surround, we think ours is the later so have bough some felt pads for the area to see if that sorts the problem 👍
I’m looking at 06 td6 vogue that has gearbox fault no lights on the dash so hope it’s just oil service
Let us know if it’s sorted with an oil service, maybe worth a megaflush? 👍
So then a US spec 2006 model that not supercharged would have the Jaguar 4.4 engine? Sounds like a better choice than the earlier versions ?
Yes the 4.4 JLR engine would be the engine if not looking for a supercharged model on 2006-2009 model years 😁
What would you say about lpg in an 2011 supercharged model?
Although the valves aren’t as soft as the 4.2 and 4.4, I’d probably still avoid LPG on the 5.0-litre. Unless you are planning to do very high mileage 👍
I L322 of 2004 with 3000cc but pissed of with Trans.failsafe prog. And it does not accelerate above 70m/h even if i lifted speed limit to 150m/h. Does this because of the error or something else?
If your transmission is in failsafe mode it is either protecting itself from mechanical failure (limiting speed) or the stored code for a fault that is not rectified will be telling the engine management to limit performance 👍
Not sure what they mean it was designed by bmw as the engineers at JLR are bound to have had major input even though the company was owned by bmw.
JLR as a group didn't officially exist at the time of the L322 creation, Land Rover was owned by BMW and Jaguar by Ford. The two would be under one roof again in the Ford era but while owned by different parents a line was drawn between them.BMW wanted the Rover brand to develop an SUV (or SAV as they named it) of their own. Yes the Land Rover engineers were certainly involved, BMW materials science, engineering, and designers were utilised though. The E53 BMW X5 design and L322 design were closely connected. The L322 monocoque, engines, and features highlight this. Some of the suspensions and frame components were also shared with modification to give each car a distinct identity.
This is one of the reason why if you get in a 2001-2005 model you'll notice the seats are firmer than 2006 onwards, BMW generally aim for a firmer more 'sporty' seat design, whereas Range Rover designers wanted a slightly softer and comfortable seat and so once they had more control of the L322 they made changes for the 2005/2006 facelift. This also rings true for the second facelift in 2009/2010 when JLR was reestablished and the company pushed the L322 further into the luxury car competition, a theme that is fully delivered with the L405 and the benchmarking of a Rolls Royce Ghost (see our L405 buyers guide)
Hope this helps clear things up, take nothing away from Land Rover and their team, they certainly would have brought their expertise to the project 👍
I have a 2012 l322. 5 liter V8. Did I miss you talking about this?
The 5.0 V8 and 5.0 V8 supercharged have near identical reliability reports and matching blocks. We mention the 5.0 supercharged at the end of the engine list and you can use this reliability info for your 5.0 whether it is N/A or SC 😁
Nice one
Thanks 🔥
Very nice video, but the music is super annoying.
Yeah I got this feedback a few times early on and in newer guides I’ve toned it down 👍
Your wrong about the Brembo brakes they was removed but then re added to the 3.6tdv8
Please could you advise the production months that the Brembo brakes are reinstated on the 3.6 TDV8
Information we have is
MY 2007 / 2008 / 2009 - 4 Pot Brembos
MY 2010 (Registrations in 2009 and 2010) - unlisted / unbranded
MY 2011 / 2012 - 6 Pot Brembos fitted with the 4.4 TDV8
We have this information listed for all markets including those where the 3.6 TDV8 was fitted with a DPF.
The repair manual for MY 2010 is unclear as to when (if at all) the 4 pot brembo brakes are resupplied to 3.6 TDV8
The repair manual for the 3.6 TDV8 of 2007 /2008 / and none DRL 2009 states Brembo
We are unaware of the 6 pot Brembos (as became the supply of the L322 in MY2011) being fitted to the 3.6 TDV8 so production months and specifying whether the 4 pot Brembo or 6 pot Brembo was fitted would be really helpful
We are aware that some L322 MY2010 3.6 TDV8 owners retrofitted 4 pot Brembos from MY2007 / MY 2008 / MY2009 vehicles but we can't see any reference to JLR doing this at factory. 👍
@@themilesdriven very impressive knowledge

It was one of our recommendations 😁
He didn’t mention the front and rear subframes rust out

Thanks for the comment 👍
What is the model called in Canada as I believe that it isn't called the L322 in Canada?
The L322 designation is world wide, but some call it the MK3, others call it the Range Rover Vogue. It was developed under the code L30 so maybe you have heard this term? The Vogue is just a specification of the L322 but because you couldn't buy a Range Rover Sport in Vogue specification some people use the term to separate the two models. 👍
L322 is like Russian roulette, some are good lots of them are not. Can be ultimate moneypits.
Thanks for the comment
Are you planning a L405 video at all?? 🤔
Yes both the L405 and the L494 Sport are on our future schedule 😁 but we'll be doing a few more cars around the early 2000's first 👍
@@themilesdriven How about a 1999 Mercedes CLK320 Convertible?! Lol 😎
We really like the CLK so don't count it out 😁
I own both vehicles, the Range Rover L405 is more my daily driver and the CLK is a restoration project so I’m fairly knowledgeable about both. Anything you want to know please feel free to get in touch and I look forward to the prospective videos 👍🏻😎
Thanks. We just might take you up on that when we start our research for them 😁👍
You missed the first 2005 face-lift one😅
We mention the 2005-2009 facelift at 1:06. Or do you mean we didn’t mention the 2005 (exterior) facelift that kept the earlier interior until 2006 on the Td6, JLR 4.4, and early Supercharged models? If so we mention this at 11:08 when giving our recommendations 👍
@@themilesdriven you didn't show the 2005 exterior face-lift. You jumped to the 2009 chrome grill.😁
At 1:06 we show the 2005 facelift model with the supercharged grille, the same grille was fitted to my 2007 Vogue SE TDV8 as standard from factory to differentiate Vogue and Vogue SE specification. To double check this you can look at the videos we did in mine. In 2009 the second facelift is first offered as 5.0-litre or remains with the 3.6 TDV8 for one year, then the 4.4TDV8, but this is the second facelift not the 2005 to 2009 facelift.
This might be a region specific change? I'm not aware of a 'chrome' grille ever being a standard fit facelift item, but happy to be proven wrong, do you have a source for this information we can check? We'll be updating this video with a newer one soon so it would be great to clarify this 👍
@themilesdriven The supercharged grille was not standard from factory on the 2007 TDV8. Vogue or SE. If you look at Clarksons, which is a 2007 TDV8 SE you will see it's the grey grille.
Thanks for the replies but a quick search online will clear this up. The Vogue SE is a trim that adds all of the supercharged model equipment but with the TDV8 engine (except the electronic rear differential which remained optional). That was the reason for its introduction in markets like the UK where the supercharged model were not as popular, but buyers wanted the top specification. 😁
Yes Clarkson changed the front grille to the Vogue specification as he didn't like the supercharged style mesh style. He has said this a few times 👍
If you go to any dedicated L322 forum (FullfatRR Is a good one) and ask if the L322 Vogue SE from 2005-2009 has the diamond pattern supercharged grilles you will have your answer. Here is a link to a someone asking on the LandyZone forum.

Hope all this information has cleared it up for you. If not you can also get hold of the 2005-2008 UK brochure from Land Rover for the L322. This specifies the diamond pattern (supercharged) grille as standard equipment on the Vogue SE.
Note: Vogue SE trim was not offered in all markets. The USA for example did not get Vogue SE as an option.
As a side note it also added the diamond pattern mesh side side grille in the front wings as standard equipment on the Vogue SE TDV8 (again these were on my own TDV8) 👍
L322 looks very dated now compared to L405
If a FFRR is maintained properly it looks better the older it gets. Class can never date.
We'd agree with you there Joe, well kept L322's still look classy in our book 😁
Thanks for the comment 👍
L405 is garbage. L322 before 2006 and after 2010 is garbage. According to 2 Rover mechanics with 45 yrs experience .
What? What about the 4.0
I have 2 questions.
Is there any difference between 4.4 tdv8 2011 and 2012?
And are there westminster kits on them? Thanks
Westminsters of the last facelift L322 will generally be found on '12' and '62' numberplates in the UK. The 4.4TDV8 block and part numbers crossover for both 2011 and 2012 👍
we are talking about the reliability of the Range Rover, not the BMW
Is 06 hse reliable
2006 will likely have the 4.4 JLR engine, or the BMW 2.9Td6 motor, you can find the common issues in our guide along with common problems to look for across the range. As ever a specific vehicle should be checked for signs of care and servicing history 👍
im in the market and fairly confused between all the trims and engine variants. Im a bimmer head and know quite a bit about engines. I know the word 'reliability' is tough with high hp engines but whats an engine that didn't have a history of catastrophic failures? the most 'bullet proof" engine for the US market. Anything helps - cheers, Jake
Hi Jake, the JLR 4.4 from 06-09 or the 4.2 supercharged 05-09 are probably best for you. The JLR 4.4 is considered particularly robust. Note that that the 4.4 from 02-05 is a BMW engine and less reliable but if you know BMW's you could work on it yourself? The early 02-05 has more of a BMW 'feel'. The seats are firmer and the motor is same as the 745i ect that had the 4.4 V8 👍
@@themilesdriven what about the facelift versions ?
Just throw the money out the window. Save time.
I literally had to buy a spare Range Rover as a parts car as these vehicles do not age well. So far I replace a radiator, tranny, head gasket, fuel pump, air suspension, tpms module, suspension controll module, 2 sets of deteriorate keys, fuel pump sender and filter unit, full suspension, and now my head gasket just blew at 100k miles, oh and an alternator, battery and windshield wiper relay and all the plastics, cowels A pillars and interior broken crap . Range Rovers are getting worse even more so that they are owned by the Chinese company Chery Motors in conjunction with the India company Tata motors owning a 50% stake. Maybe the Chinese made parts will actually be better quality then the British made parts ....so maybe China owning JLR group will help out!
By the end of all that work it sounds like you'll have a like new Range Rover 😁 Thanks for adding you ownership experience
Heres a very short buyers guide....'Dont do it'
18 mpg ARE YOU FOR REAL ?????????? Who on this planet can afford that I would rather change 2/3 gearboxes and to be honest as long as your right foot feels whats going on the gearbox with reg servicing will last for a very very long time !!
People that spent $80k-$100k back in 2003 for an L322 weren’t very concerned with fuel efficiency. They were most interested in the performance and capability of this car. Kinda like Porsche owners. It’s just a big luxury toy.
Best to avoid altogether !!.......Money pits.
THEY AR NAVOR GOEIIN TO BEOLT A GOOD LAND ROVER .TO MANY PRAVVLAMS THE CAN CEPEIT
Buying guide, don't buy one unless you have very deep pockets
A bit of money saved for servicing and repairs always helps 😁
Avoid every one, combine complexity with under developed and throw in poor build quality and you have the Range Rover inmo
They fall to bits ,constant money pits . get a honda .il never have anything what has the land rover badge ever again . keep well away
My Range Rover buyers guide: Don't buy that shit.
The dumbest thing Rover ever did was put a washing machine dial in place of a shifter. Will not EVER be seen in a car with a washing machine dial. That and getting rid of the 4.4 Jag engine.
The only Landy I’ve owned that was reliable was a series 2a 6cyl 1964 and I still own it. These range rovers are junk ! You have been warned! But they look nice ?
Avoid buying a Range Rover. Buy a Toyota. It will never give you trouble.
Luis life is too short to be driving Toyotas and Hondas! 😊. It is preferable to personally learn how to maintain these cars…there’re amazing to look at and to drive.
@@SamuelPendarNo thanks I rather not get stranded in the middle of nowhere.

Useful, but a dreadful monologue
