Super demo Gavin, these are when used with care a very useful addition to the Mini 2:-) Great job
Thanks Henrik! Exactly that, use with caution and the possibility is huge ! ☺️👍
Nice demo yeah but what about when people buy the app and the other features doesn't work correctly 😪
The wonders of the Mini 2! 👍👍 Useful info Gavin! Thanks!
Cool modes! I'm thrilled we have this for the Mini 2! Definitely a bigtime level up for the drone!
wow..... so excited to try this!!!! thanks
Thanks 👍👍
A rather unique content. Dope aerial shots!👌
Definitely going to try these modes out when I get back on my travels, going to make the mini2 even more awesome 👍
It's a great piece of kit mate honestly!
You explain things perfectly 👍🏼went to sub, already was 🤣 getting old!
Thanks gav. You have made my mind up. Am getting litchi. ASAP. Cheers for another awesome video.
Thank you very much! Hope you enjoy it, fly carefully and it will do you well
@@GAVINHR just be using app up the hill paths with my MTB bike, cheer gav
This is cool I changed my mavic pro for a mini 2 and I miss these modes. Hopefully it's super smooth when there is less wind.
Woow..very good video dji brother 👍👍👍🙏
Thanks Gavin. Once this passes the beta phase, I will be purchasing a copy of the app thanks to your great videos and demos.
Thanks Cliff
Can't wait to see if dronelink can do it better but so far so good 👍🏾
Well I think for a sub 250g drone it those winds, it done an amazing job, I might pick up the app once the weather gets better, maybe for the summer time. Anyway Good Job Gavin 😉 👊
Thank you Mark, yes let me test it all first, I'm excited to show the waypoints next ! It never fails to impress me this drone! Living where I do it's sat there banking like hell in the wind and it still does an amazing job
In my tests (Litchi BETA) with the Mini 2 for the Focus mode, I have to put the joystick speed limiter to 10-15% (which is very slow) when the subject is less than 50m away, otherwise the Mini does not rotate fast enough to keep the subject in frame.
I do not know why the rotation speed is so slow considering it is using GPS as the target.
Another great video Gavin, thanks! What are your thoughts on Litchi vs Rainbow app? In my testing I found the Rainbow app to be slightly better in Active Tracking and Waypoints mode.
Sorry mate I saw this so replied to both in the one message, il try rainbow at some point :)
Nice video, a perfect answer to a question I had asked previously. Thanks Gavin 👍
Great that Litchi can do these functions, wonder if DJI will ever enable this functionality in their Fly app? 🤔
Since mini 2 does not have any collision sensor I don't think dji will ever put this feature
Hi Graham, the below comment is right they won't add them as they want to sell up the model range - for me it's not particularly about obstacle avoidance as they have quickshots which of course you could easily crash using
Awesome
Hi Gavin. Another awesome video, thanks. Is there any suggestion of when DJI will be releasing the IOS SDK to enable these fantastic features?
Litchi looks great. Can you do a video about how to use it, all the controls and things like how will insurance companies deal with claims when Litchi is involved? For instance will Cover Drone or DJI Refresh pay out for accidental damage occuring when using third party software?
This option has been about for a long time with the parrot drones, it’s a great option DJI need to get on this,
Do you have litchi and mini2 working with the smart controller yet it is a awesome combination!!! I have it working with the smart controller so practical and the features on litchi is a game changer for me love it 👌
Hi Gavin
Great video again thanks, any idea when the app will be released for the mini 2 using iOS
Keep up the good work
Sadly not it all depends on DJI releasing the SDK - as soon as they do these app companies will be able to get on it
I purchased litchi about 4 yr ago for phantom 4 on androyd phone and it was my first choice of software over dji software then
So its been around for
Sum time now
Dont be scared of it as it is great for around £20
When i purchased my mini 2
I had to go to ios i pad mini 5
as fly app will not load on my older samsung phone but wanted a better veiwing tablet anyway
i still own the litchi app for androyd
So going to purchase it for ios when its realeased as you cannot swap
if any one asks
A bit of a downside
But great vids again gavin will veiw these again and again when i get litchi for ios to recap
Thanks john from barnsley
Thanks john! Hopefully it gets launched for iOS soon eh!
Great video Gavin! Fantastic! It would be great if we can kind of combine these orbit and focus shots while getting to waypoints? To eg replicate also mastershots for the Mini 2
That would be an idea! To be fair though I've used mastershots once and that was to demo mastershots! Never used it since
Good one Gavin, I decided to get Litchi myself, hopefully get out and start putting some videos together myself, one quick question you maybe able to answer, what buttons on the mini2 controller are keys C1 & C2
amazing video... I have recently get dji mini se. what SD card would you recommend
good video, there you have my like 👍
Thank you very much 🙂
Still in Beta, but looking forward to the full released version. Checked Apple App Store and mini 2 still excluded...thanks Laurie
Looks good
New profile picture? Nice ! Thanks man
@@GAVINHR my channel needed an update 👍
Gavin,
If you were to select your subject in the focus mode, and then you were to fly past the subject would the drone turn to keep the subject in focus. Like the cable option in maven
Fantastic video as always Gavin!
Does the orbit mode just rely on GPS positioning or does it need the camera / daylight?
Unfortunately I'm tied to an iPhone just now so can't test it myself (yet, come on DJI with our SDK)
Reason I ask is if it doesn't need daylight it would be awesome for doing long exposure photos from the ground with a strobe attached and set to a solid light for some lightpainting with the drone. (think buildings with a halo circled above thanks to the drone strobe)
I've managed lightpainting by flying manual orbits, but the subject building has to be lit so you have something to see on the screen to get a smooth circle.
Great idea with the light painting! Yes it works on GPS location - I have not tried in the dark but since it's GPS location I cannot see this being an issue at all
@@GAVINHR thanks, I’m so jealous of android users now! I can’t wait for it to become available for iPhones!
do you think there will be a way to change gimble or rotor rates to do dives etc like a standard fpv drone?
Brilliant Videos on this App Gavin, have you any news on your Autel Drone yet.
Still not with me ! I'm very disappointed given the work I've done on it so far but stock doesn't seem to of hit the UK retailers yet
Hello from Norway ! I have been a drone pilot for a while, and as far as I can see the Fly app does these things just as good... For me at least, I don't see any reason to install this app ... But of course I respect your fantastic job !!!
It is for mini 2 users. They do not have these options in fly app.
Thank you Olav - as has been said in the other reply the DJI fly app has these if you own an air 2s or air 2 but mini 2 , SE and Mavic mini owners do not have these :)
@@GAVINHR Ok, I have just been flying my Air2 ...
That's correct as the FULL version supports the air 2 and the Mavic mini - just you need the beta for the mini 2, SE and air 2s
How did you get Litchi to work with the Mini 2?? Thanks!
Can you still hit the pause button on the RC if you get close to hitting something?
Hi Gavin, could you have a go at looking at the waypoints mode... Be great for doing a seasonal transition through the year.. Same flight path flown spring to winter and blended together
Hi gaz, waypoints will be done soon:) just trying to do them in an order that makes sense and flows
@@GAVINHR ace, cheers mate! If you have a bit of money to throw at dronelink that might be worth a look into. Their mapping feature is great for architecture and mapping in general.
Great demo. Curious, what is the max wind and max gust you have flown mini2 in? Still trying to figure my cutoff point for flights. It’s pretty darn good in wind
20mph with gusts 25mph would be a safe amount ☺️
Good one. How do I get Litchi app for my Mini 2 SE? thanks
Looking promising, not perfect but a major add on/upgrade to take this drone to a new level
It did pretty well given the wind! Little bit of finesse and it will be there, of course it's a paid app so litchi have to always develop which can only be a good thing
Gavin, I have a question for you which has no relevance to this video, but it is concerning the Mini 2 using the Beta Android version of Litchi. The question is on WAYPOINTS.
In the event of a loss of connection of the controller when on a Waypoint mission, is the drone going to continue its mission or will it RTH?
With my old Phantom, when encountering a loss of connection during a Litchi waypoint mission, the drone continued its mission, but I have heard that with the Mini 2, and this Beta version, the drone will RTH on a loss of connection.
Thanks in advance for your expert knowledge and keep up the good work.
Hi Richard - in all truth I have not filmed / tested the waypoints mission in full yet, it is always been my believe that your first statement is correct and during s loss of Connection the mission will continue, I have no reason to think differently on the mini 2 but I will of course test this
@@GAVINHR Thanks Gavin. Looking forward to your test.
Should I wait on the mini 3 or buy the mini2
Mini 2 has definitely gone up in value 😁
Not wrong!
I was wondering how do you go about getting the video footage or pictures out of the litchi app?,the app works fine on my android device, but i can't figure out how to view my video footage, any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
Thanks Gavin for another great video. Are these modes possible with the Mini ? Do you plan to do a video with mini ?
Hi Mohammed, I could do one with the mini yes but I actually covered it over a year ago using that, I may look to do my final test with the Mavic mini actually good thinking !
@@GAVINHR thanks Gavin
1:37 brave in the wind returning to where your mini 2 took a bath previously 😃. Asked on another vid of yours, can litchi do photo bursts with these modes as well as video?
Hahaha! You remembered! I cut so much out of this video due to wind noise but I did actually reference it regarding having flashbacks, no not yet that's one of the features being worked on at the moment, single shot fine but the bursts and Pano stitching are yet to come
Where is the link (app) for litchi for the dji mini 2?
App store says not compatible with mini 2...how is it working here? I will purchase once I know it will work with my mini 2
Please explain what is litchi. Add on different app or what?
This is great, as an SE owner myself, have you tested if these features also work for the SE? (i thought SDK also covered it)
Yes these features will work on the SE - I have not tested it as I don't have the SE as it was never sold here in the UK however it shares the same commands as the Mavic mini and mini 2 and others have reported positive feedback
@@GAVINHR thank you kindly for your time responding
Hi Gavin. In any of the lichi modes. Can you use the sticks to change direction or hight if you suddenly needed to?
Hi! In some yes ain others no, in the modes I used on this yes the sticks will still control it if needed :)
Awesome videos. Unfortunately litchi doesn’t have the SDK for iOS because DJI hasn’t released it. This is exciting stuff for android users. I wish I knew that before. I must of missed the disclaimer. This is all very exciting things though and I hope they release it for iOS!
Just get a cheap or used android and download the app you don’t need a cell plan or network
hi friend litchi does not have his data recorded video photo only on SD card?
Hi...have been looking into Litchi...looks good. Have a question, are you being/or were endorsed by Litchi to review their product. Great video.
No endorsement ive used it for years so I showed people it
Does the Litchi app have a hyperlapse mode?
How do I find my videos and pictures please where are they saved too
Hi Gavin, great video again! Quick question...what is your experience in using litchi follow me in the hills? Does it work if your phone has pressure sensing (like many samsung phones have). Does it work good with litchi?
Hi there and thanks for watching as usual, sadly I have not got a Samsung phone to be able to test that so I am unable to say either way however this all works on the phones GPS location so there is no reason to think it won't work ok :)
@@GAVINHR Hi Gavin, appreciate yr feedback!. Basically all phones have gps so that will work with Litchi. But for using eg follow me in the hills, you also need to measure the altitude. Phones with pressure sensor can do this, and in litchi there is also a setting in follow me. You can test if your phone has a pressure sensor by eg installing a barometer app from the playstore. Then you should see if the phone does register and measure altitude. Unfortunate you dont find videos on this from litchi themselves.
trying to find the new app is it now charged
I was there yesterday ...bit windy ...ok below 30m
Yeah it's been a nightmare, some of these videos I've had to film 2 / 3 times or over 2 days to get usable footage, you should drop me a message when you're going I only work at Saltend
Been following this with interest, question i have, android user, what do i need to do to get started with litchi once I’ve purchased it, ie, do i need to update my device etc, tia
Sorry for the delay, you just need to go to the litchi website and sign up for the beta program, then you uninstall the main version and after clicking the link you can download the beta, then it will just work! Or of course you can wait for the full version to be released
4k with tracking?
Litchi’s website says:
Litchi's iOS beta is not yet compatible with Mini 2, Mini SE and Air 2S as DJI did not release an updated iOS SDK yet.
Is the app still compatible for the Mini 2 f I downloaded it as a new user now? The website seems to suggest no but your videos (which I’m liking btw) looks like it’s a yes.
I am assuming the wind was creating the lack if symmetry it looked for all the world in that first shot the drone was getting further away from ht POI (you)
Yes it was pretty gusty with constant wind warnings, using these modes previously have worked just fine, the orbit worked amazing well however
Thanks for the video. Would you say Litchi is a worthy alternative to DJI fly and mostly, would you say it's better than DJI fly?
I've been trying Litchi a couple of days and, in terms of functionalities, absolutely yes, Litchi is way more capable of DJI fly. What is a pity is the design of the Litchi app, it feels like an app made back in 2010, while DJI Fly app its quite beautiful, clear and concise in all ways. For me feels weird that Litchi, getting the incomes that they get for every app sold, haven't put any more efforts in improve their app appearance.
I think it's because even to this day a lot of drone users prefer the look of the DJI Go app on which this was largely based in appearance
It certainly looks like it's a usable app with the Mini 2. Have they updated the app at all yet Gav since it's been out?
There was one update I believe but I think that was more about compatibility with certain devices, from our conversations in expecting it in full by the end of the month, in reality most of the features work and the flight controls work as the should, this has worked with the Mavic mini and air 2 for over a year and it's the same control points for the mini 2 / SE / air 2s so not a great amount of work to get it working it's just the final modes etc and finessing the functions
@@GAVINHR hi friend litchi does not have his data recorded video photo only on SD card?
@@GAVINHR Nice one, thank you
@@GAVINHR I found an bug / issue with it wandering and compass didn't look right. Other than that, it's epic.....I contacted them They replied:
We have identified the issue where the drone rotates during the stay for action, it will be fixed in the next beta build, we will upload it soon
Thank you for reporting this bug
Yeah those bits will be in my final roundup where I test all of the safety features etc :)
So how long do you think it will be approved for OS support instead of just Beta for Android?
Sadly that is down to DJI releasing the SDK, my last communication with them was there was no set date but to keep checking their roadmap for updates
Congrats for another job well done with good video and excellent introduction, thanks for hanks for sharing ur experiences, i got another newly uploaded video in my channel and hope u enjoy too :)
Thank you very much I will have a look!
Hi Gavin whats your thoughts on skins ?
Hi there, yeah I don't mind things like that it's all part of personalising your equipment, as long as the skin keeps you below the weight were you fall into the next class then it's all good :)
Gavin, can you please show Litchi safety features, return to home tests, loss of connection, low battery behaviour etc.
Coming, I'm showing the features, next video will be the final waypoints ... Then the next will be the run-through on the app and safety features, I tried return to home on this video, worked perfectly but removed it as on that section the wind noise was too strong
@@GAVINHR Thanks Gavin, I am hopeful you can make this testing fairly elaborate, to give confidence to us new users to Litchi (have now purchased this App due to your videos). If these functions can be shown to protect the drone in loss of receiver, override user for return to home for low battery etc. then that would be great. I think in one of your videos you showed the DJI Fly app would repeatedly attempt return to home on low battery, and could be cancelled, but there was very high confidence the drone would take over when it really needed to.
Yes if course, it's quite ironic you mentioned it, I even said in the video I know a few of you have concerns so I'll show a return to home but cut it out due to noise, I'll show and test them in the final review which will be about features and flight performance in normal modes
Hi I have a question: is it possible to save one specific path in orbit mode to reproduce the exact same flight in the future? Thank you
In the same Place ??
@@SoyPakitto yes the exact same path and place
Can't find it in the google store yet, so ae specific that this is only a beta test? Or?
It's available for anybody to join the beta program and use this version
I've just had a thought/question... does using this app get around the dji geo fencing ?
Sadly not as it's stored on the drone
@@GAVINHR I thought that might be the case
Is this only for the mini 2? Or would it work on the mini SE
No it's for the SE also
can i install litchi and DJI Fly app together in my phone..will both work?
Sure can just don’t have both open at the same time
What's the point in attempting to record footage in litchi, when you cannot view it?
Nice demo. I don't understand why you didn't mention (via narration or text overlay) that Litchi is not yet compatible with Mini2/SE/Air 2S on iOS. (You are the second reviewer I have seen not mention this.)
Hi Ed, in truth I maybe should have however so far I have mentioned it in every video I have covered on this topic, I have even explained all about the SDK release etc many times so from my view i felt that to mention it again would be unnecessary, that being said of course I should take into consideration this may be the first video you watch in the series and I probably should of still pointed it out in this one. Thanks for the feedback.
@@GAVINHR It was my first, Gavin. So props for mentioning it elsewhere!
Is litchi reliable like the DJI fly app ! What if I have a fly away on my mini 2 !? 😥
Many many people have flyaways on the fly app - what you need to remember is unless you are using some of the smart modes it's just an app that allows you to see what the camera sees, it's the controller that operates the drone :)
Plz make a detail video on the settings of litchi app..specially follow me...
That video is already done ✅
gav ive got an idea for a charity thing using the mini2. as alot of us in the uk have 1 maybe we could do a fly round the uk every mile completed ask dji or some rich celeb like yourself😂😂 to donate an amount per mile or set amount and donate to children in need or various charities??
You can do these in the DJI app
If you have an air 2 or air 2s then yes but none of the others can
I'm a beta tester mate yet active track seems to not work using it on my s21 ultra Gavin
Are you closing down all the apps? Because the active track is not native it requires processing power from your phone, mine works pretty ok
@GAVINHR all apps where closed mate retried the app and kept trying both myself and in a car it lost both before moving 😂
you need to not run a screen recorder or the box will not follow the subject. found this out on my mini 2, a bit of s nuisance as i like to review my flights on screen record. 3rd party or phone recorder, same. track and track/follow work fine then
@Richard Grunwald screen recorder as in the built in screen recorder on the phone ? Why would that make it work ?
Hi Graham - because screen recorder using s lot of cpu processing power basically and with litchi it works on algorithms so it calculates in real time so the least number of apps running alongside a powerful device will help it run smoothly
Do you talk in these strange disjointed sentences normally or is that just for videos? 😂 Another quality video mate!
Haha! No it's very different in person, usually I record every video twice to account for wind noise so often bits get cut up and chopped in to overall try bring a better more efficient video, after a lot of videos on RUclips me just talking away doesn't engage people so it's easier this way :)
@@GAVINHR oh definitely, really enjoying the content so keep it up!
Is this available for iPhone?
Not yet
Should work with a android tablet correct?
Yes it sure will :)
It would have been nice to hear one person say just one time I'd be bent over & screwed if I had an android phone & bought a dji drone.
Nobody mentions it unless it a vid about the app not working.
Nobody else mentions, oh, hey, by the way.
You might need to go spend hundreds on a new phone to fly your drone because DJI doesn't support much for android & they don't even give you a whisper of a warning.
It was awesome to find out while I'm on vacation trying to launch it for tge first time.
Wow, it was so amazing watching it sit there motionless for hoursSCREW YOU DJI!
I tend not to use these automated modes and prefer to fly manually. It gives me greater control and satisfaction in the end product. Further, I will not be using the app whilst in beta. DJI will not cover any loss whilst using this app.
Quite correct I also prefer manual flying but I'm showcasing what's possible, as for the loss also true however many people have other policies which do cover 3rd party apps :)
What's more impressive, the app or the fact that the sub 250 gram drone managed to fly pretty dang well in such windy conditions? You decide!
Both!
I've done hundreds of waypoint missions with Litchi on the Mini 2 (example ruclips.net/video/K0GIVl20sPI/видео.html) because it lets you do things not possible with the Mini 3 (see the transitions from day to evening to night in "1 shot"). The one feature of the Mini 3 that I really wanted, is the Spotlight Mode. Looks like I already have this for the Mini 2 with Litchi. I'm going to test this now - thanks Gavin, I've watched several of your videos, but have now subscribed as well!
Thank you Tim, your sub is highly appreciated
No way
Yes way! Hhaha
If we are in the middle of a fly can we switch from the Litchi app to the DJI app safely? Honestly one of the main concerns that I would have regarding Litchi its the safety. For me, DJI fly app seems like a more robust app which has been specifically designed for DJI drones, while Litchi it's more generic and has a bunch of features that you could use with a lot of drones, but this is achieved by renouncing that reliability that DJI fly app provides. Is it just a bad feeling that I have or it is the reality?
Hi David, the litchi app is also specifically designed for DJI drones, I think there is some misconceptions, DJI release their control packages TO these companies so most of the features and modes and controls are actual DJI's development, and in actual fact there have been many occasions in the past 6 months or so that the DJI fly app has been completely incompatible with certain devices leaving owners grounded! It's a bit of a bad feeling in all honesty, I wouldn't risk my own drone using it as believe me the views from these videos wouldn't pay me enough to buy a new mini 2! Haha
Even accepting the high winds, that 'focus' mode looks pretty poor. Subject drifts across almost a third of the frame in the first test. You get cut out of frame in the overhead test. Not impressed at all by this. The orbit function doesn't seem any improvement over the DJI Fly quick shot orbit. A bit of 'king's new clothes' so far with these functions.
The main advantage is that you can select the speed also with this to get the desired shot, yes the focus needs a bit of tweaking of course but that's why it's still in beta, I will revisit any I don't think worked as well as should after the final release
They do the same thing 🤦🏾 What features work?? Because everything else like follow me doesn't work it loses track of the subject 🤦🏾🤦🏾 why do they charge people for this app?
It's just awful! The image does not look stable at all. And are you talking about cinematic movements? Really? :)
Absolutely 🙂 did a good job considering the wind, standard quickshots looked exactly the same
You talk too fast.
