I have heard that the whip kick provides 50% or more of the propulsion in breast stroke. I did figure out that this kick is the only one that actually pushes straight back to the wall. The flutter and dolphin kick expend most of their energies down and up rather than back. I think the scissor kick used in traditional side stroke and the combat swim side stroke is similar. Can you go over kick timing in relation to the pull? It seems like some instructors want us to get fully into streamline before bringing the feet up to the rear, which feels like too much of a disconnect to me as well as a momentum killer. Adam appears to be drawing the legs up (very quickly) as he's pushing the hands forward into streamline, but not completely there. That feels best to me, but I kept second-guessing myself after watching some tutorials.
