They could bring back the Rita & Runt segments anyway while still using the idea of them becoming therapy pets and also having them now be Dr. Scratchansniff’s pets just like at the end of Wakko’s Wish. Those new ideas could be used as focuses of their segments. Even some plots could either show Rita & Runt doing stuff while their new owner Scratchansniff is away or even show them traveling with Scracthansniff and somehow getting separated from him along the way and having to find their way back to him.
I like your idea about how the 2020 show should’ve addressed where the other characters went. Rather than doing something so blatantly cruel- have them simply…Be grown up and have long moved on. That was one of my favorite things about the 2011 Muppets movie. Rather than shit on the old Muppets, the move just showed that as the years past- the Muppets had no choice but to grow with the times and do new things. But none of them regretted their years on the show and were happy to be a part of it again. I was honestly expecting Animaniacs 2020 to be given the same love and respect that Muppets 2011 and Duck Tales 2017 were given. But turns out, not only was I wrongs- there were people on the production team who admitted to not even liking the 90s version. What’s the point of being a part of a reboot when you didn’t like the original material? Someone with this video’s passion for the show should’ve been on the writers’ team. That kind of love and passion is what all reboot needs.
Oh, god, hearing the Animanicast episode re: Good Warner Hunting. The new showrunners openly admitting that they hated anyone who wasn't Pinky, Brain or the Warners explained a lot. I've seen people screaming and craving about how the Goodfeathers showed up for five seconds, and that they brought back Slappy for one moment. If those people knew what the showrunners really thought of the original. No, they were NOT trying. They just put the cameos in to shut people up.
I can honestly say that your ideas are exactly what the reboot needed to succeed. Tom being brought back has been on my mind since day one of its announment and that was a red flag on their part, along so many other bad decisions. How I would fix this: *Bring back the other good characters (Slappy, Skippy, Rita, Runt, The Flame, Mr. Skullhead, the Mime, and so on). *Hire guest animators (Miyazaki, Eric Goldman, Scarfe, etc.) to animate any segments they want in their style & their own original shorts to keep things fresh. *Make the Warners stay in character. *(This one is going to upset a certain fan) Add my OCs Kikko, Sokki, and Quirky Aulstar to the main cast along with their respective voice actors. *Add Platypus Duck (another Tom Ruegger) creation) to the main cast. *Make both the old & new staff work together. *Allow innuendos & hidden jokes back.
I honestly like some of those ideas for those side characters like Minerva and Hello Nurse, V. 🙂 But I would never ever redesign the Warners to respect their past as 1930's cartoon stars in-universe along with those inspired designs from that era of old cartoons if I was a part of the reboot team. I also would love to see Hello Nurse come back with a backstory alongside with Mr. Plotz passing the baton to become the next CEO of Warner Bros.
And with Plotz retiring, they could have him star in some segments of his own, trying to enjoy his retirement and do various activities with hilarious results. They could even have Hello Nurse star in some of her own segments, some of which could show her doing some of the jobs and stuff that Wakko alluded to in the “Hello Nurse” song and getting into wacky predicaments while trying to perform her tasks.
It's funny you mentioned the idea of an older Mindy. I myself entertained the idea of Mindy as a young woman with a daughter of her own, one that looks very similar to her when she was little, and Buttons basically being retired as Mindy's protector, living his later years in peace. But he has a son and his son would be the protector of Mindy's daughter. However, unlike how Buttons always got punished at the end, his son would suffer all sorts of injuries, but Mindy herself would give all sorts of love and affection to him. Or even at the end of the adventure, Buttons does one of those off-handed catches of his son. Like, he's sleeping in his doghouse as his son comes flying into the garden, he just casually lifts a giant catcher's mitt, and catches his son, covered in all sorts of injuries.

@@IsiahTomas Wellesley Wild and the new showrunners. They were interviewed on the Animanicast, a podcast which has featured the likes of Rob Paulsen, Tom Ruegger and Paul Rugg. They flat out told the hosts that one of the first agendas they had with the reboot was cutting Slappy, Rita, Hip Hippos, etc and replacing them. There was no political correctness for these characters not returning. No. The showrunners hated all of them.

Just wanted to put this out there, Benedict the Dragon should be a full character. An over the top fire breathing thespian wanting to get big roles in plays, shows and movies could lead to some funny shorts and moments.

You have lots of great ideas on how to bring back the rest of the cast! I especially agree about the Pinky and the Brain issue. It wasn't until I got to the end of the reboot that I realized how much making Brain an actual evil villain instead of a well-meaning anti-hero who wants to make the world a better place like in the original undermines the whole "Pinky and the Brain" thing. It's easy to forget if you haven't seen the show in years, but the mice really genuinely love each and and mean well for the world (as the Christmas Special put it, "what's best for the world") though they are misguided. Pinky genuinely supports Brain. When Brain goes too far, Pinky stands up to him in the original and acts as his moral compass. The original writers used to talk about this in interviews during the 1990s. The reboot taking this out kinda forgets what makes the core relationship of that series work, and has the unfortunate side effect of making Pinky seem "too dumb to live" instead of being a scatterbrained cloudcuckoolander who still has more common sense and emotional intelligence than Brain. Whether Julia's an actual villain or just a rival, I think her introduction ultimately needed to be very different to prevent turning those two characters into two totally different, and more one-dimensional and flat, characters.
I have a couple ideas for new skits, if you care. -Quinten Bakersfield and the Pastry Trap. A Willy Wonka parody with an extremely dark twist. That being the kids were kidnapped and forced to try out Quinten’s disgusting and even outright deadly food! -QWERTYBOY. A series of skits with a block-headed character that does random things for the sake of it, terrifying everyone around him. -Animation Domination. Think the “Suffragette City” skit but more fleshed out and original characters. It’d follow a group of cartoon characters trying to get respect from Hollywood even though they’re cartoons, and not live-action humans. Also, it be a blend of animation and live action, like Roger Rabbit.
I love your ideas about using the original characters in the reboot; especially with Minerva and Wilford. The one thing I would fix about the reboot is the humor. Most of the jokes (especially in the Warner segments) weren't funny. I hate it when the joke has to be explained or drawn out too long. In the original series a scene would just play out and move on. I miss humor like that.
Another thing I wanted to add about the show's humor is the way the original show would parody pop culture. A lot has happened between 1998 and 2020. Think of all the movies, TV shows, and music videos the reboot could have spoofed. It missed a lot of opportunities there.

Slappy/Skippy & Rita/Runt/Goodfeathers were my favorites. Also pretty fond of Flavio/Marita & the Skeleton & Mime dudes. They could have also kept both Hello Nurse, Katy Kaboom, & Minerva Mink. I know Minerva would be relatable to a lot of Instagram models & Twitch streamers, & she does seem to be somewhat popular with some transwomen.
If your vision of an Animaniacs reboot were to happen, I'm up for an episode that makes fun of Disney for always having "the same old twist villian" or generational trauma in thier movies. Heck, the Warners could pay a visit to their rival studio and through a song, show the writers how to create a real bad guy. Most of the segments of the reboot are hilarious. There are a few weak ones like bun control. The anime sequence comes out of nowhere. What does Shounen anime have to do with gun control. That should have been it's own segment.

I always thought a good topic for them to tackle is to have the Warners go up against adult animation. Sort of have them be the epitome of early 2000s edgy show for "young adults". Imagine Warners Vs the Drawn Together cast as an idea of what they would be like. You could even have them come out of "hibernation" like the Warners did in the OG show.

The argument for not bringing the Goodfeathers back is such a lame excuse. These new writers worked on Family Guy, which is nothing but parodies from the 80s, an era most of the younger viewers for this show were not even born yet. You can not tell me that a film such as Goodfellas and the Godfather are outdated. And even if that is the case, kids will understand that they are gangster pigeons. The new writers should just admit that they hated the old show and that's it!

To give a possible idea for a reimagining of some of the new characters from the reboot, following with the idea of Hello Nurse (Heloise Nerz) being the new WB CEO, Nora could be Nurse's secretary, almost like the right hand woman of Hello Nurse, maybe being the character that doesn't understand what's going on, and maybe Nurse giving a few advices to Nora on what to do when she's in a problem with the Warner siblings, and I do agree with the other characters having a different role, like Julia being the main villain for the Pinky And The Brain segments, and I don't mind keeping the ones of Starbox & Cindy, they seemed cute for me, and The Incredible Gnome In People's Mouth sounds weird, yet funny, and his voiced by John DiMaggio, so that's a yes to me, except Neil, he needs to be cut on how he's just buff man stereotype number 1476 (random number), the less I see this type the better
A way I'd reboot it is have it be more serialized, with ACME having frozen all the rest of the OG cast, as well as the Tiny Toons, 7-Arts Cast, the rest of the miscellaneous Looney Tunes cast, and the Chariman is trying to capture the Warners and the standard cast of Looney Tunes as an act of revenge for being turned into a monkey at the end of Looney Tunes: Back In Action.
If I were going to write an episode of Animaniacs for the modern day, I'd make it a very unsubtle poke at David Zaslav and his undermining of WB's animation departments. Maybe throw in a Duck Amuck reference and have a cartoon version of him erasing characters off the drawing board.

With the Minerva Minx and Wilford idea it does work. The wolf comes out some people don't believe it and mock the couple. Wilford isnt surprise and takes it in stride as the moon rises. When he changes Minerva hops into his arms as he says catching her, "sorry y'all but i do belong to this honey." While he smirks with his teeth showing. Then Minerva proclaims, "and i love my man" giving him a big smooth at the end. It does work with some tweaking
I have an idea for a skit where they make fun of Disney for making life action remakes. The warners pay a visit to their rival studio and show the filmmakers that animated films are perfect the way they are and that there’s no need to remake them into live action garbage just to make a quick buck.

I've had a thought myself for a skit. It'd be called, "Mannfred and Deulie, based on Stephen Spielberg's first movie, "Duel". The name Mannfred stems from the main character of that move, David Mann. In that movie he and his car, a little red Plymouth Valiant, are chased by a mysterious driver in a huge, rusty tanker truck. This movie's been referenced in cartoons, from Tiny Toon Adventures', "Night Ghoulery", to that Pinky and the Brain skit where Brain builds an autonomous car. My thought would be to have both the car and the truck be the main focus. Sort of a Tom and Jerry team on wheels. Deulie'd be chasing Mannfred through all the 50 states, and part of canada, (with a parody of Hulu's, "Letterkenny" thrown in for the older folks to laugh at). Each time the skit could end with either victory, defeat, or a draw, similar to T&J's format. Beings as Tom and Jerry are Warner properties, they could even cameo. And to preserve the homage, only outside characters would be able to talk for the most part. Of course, the animation'd require more funding, as I'd insist the skits be animated using hand-drawn animation, and using the early 90's style. But that'd just be wishful thinking.

I'd say fire the existing writers and just have you writing the scripts, but the reboot got cancelled too. But it's clear you put far, far more thought into the characters, concepts, and ideas, than the rebooters did. Minerva Mink as a Twitch Streamer is a GENIUS idea. You could write episodes about her dealing with simps and clingy "whales", who think throwing money at Minerva means they're entitled to her affections. You could go full-on horror short with one where Minerva gets a stalker and has to deal with the reality of many Creatives who attract the wrong kind of fans. Like Minerva might have to deal with getting doxxed in one of her shorts when she snubs an overly forward paypig (who could be a literal Pig), so he tries to ruin her Twitch Stream career out of spite. It could be a VERY effective way to show the dangers of putting your personal information online, and how malicious parties will use it to hurt you.

Another issue with Animaniacs 2020 that needs to be addressed is the designs of the background human characters. They made the humans look so hideous and grotesque in the reboot as opposed to maintaining the caricatured yet realistic-looking humans of the original show. In short, Do away with the hideous humans and bring back the more appealing-looking ones.

These rewrite ideas seem awesome! Especially in reinventing the show, and how, even if you have some of the original crew, the best way to make a reboot is to love the original work, or at least the ideas. The removal of Hello Nurse and adjusting of Dot will remind me so much of how they removed Ms. Bellum in PPG16 and oddly made the puffs more reliant on males, not to mention the recasting. Even the new Little Mermaid has aspects of "the guys can stay, but the girls get an overhaul or are yanked". (This is regarding how press releases are claiming to give Ariel more agency when she already had a lot of agency in the original- I'm completely fine with the casting, beyond the whole 'Will Disney discard this redesign' implication that Ducktales '17 has experienced.) Ducktales '17 managed to evolve Webby, Ms. Beakley, Gandra Dee, Magica, and even Gosalyn, without losing their cores- while also finally giving the under-explored Della a role as a foil to Donald. Reboots shouldn't just reuse things, they should reinvent and improve on things, not scrap and neglect.

It's funny you mentioned the idea of an older Mindy. I myself entertained the idea of Mindy as a young woman with a daughter of her own, one that looks very similar to her when she was little, and Buttons basically being retired as Mindy's protector, living his later years in peace. But he has a son and his son would be the protector of Mindy's daughter. However, unlike how Buttons always got punished at the end, his son would suffer all sorts of injuries, but Mindy herself would give all sorts of love and affection to him. Or even at the end of the adventure, Buttons does one of those off-handed catches of his son. Like, he's sleeping in his doghouse as his son comes flying into the garden, he just casually lifts a giant catcher's mitt, and catches his son, covered in all sorts of injuries.
Your ideas for the old characters are great, I really hated how they treated them in the reboot. It’s like the writers went ‘oh you liked those characters? They all sucked lmao’

They flat out told the hosts that one of the first agendas they had with the reboot was cutting Slappy, Rita, Hip Hippos, etc and replacing them.
There was no political correctness for these characters not returning. No. The showrunners hated all of them.

Just wanted to put this out there, Benedict the Dragon should be a full character. An over the top fire breathing thespian wanting to get big roles in plays, shows and movies could lead to some funny shorts and moments.

You have lots of great ideas on how to bring back the rest of the cast! I especially agree about the Pinky and the Brain issue. It wasn't until I got to the end of the reboot that I realized how much making Brain an actual evil villain instead of a well-meaning anti-hero who wants to make the world a better place like in the original undermines the whole "Pinky and the Brain" thing.
It's easy to forget if you haven't seen the show in years, but the mice really genuinely love each and and mean well for the world (as the Christmas Special put it, "what's best for the world") though they are misguided. Pinky genuinely supports Brain. When Brain goes too far, Pinky stands up to him in the original and acts as his moral compass. The original writers used to talk about this in interviews during the 1990s. The reboot taking this out kinda forgets what makes the core relationship of that series work, and has the unfortunate side effect of making Pinky seem "too dumb to live" instead of being a scatterbrained cloudcuckoolander who still has more common sense and emotional intelligence than Brain.
Whether Julia's an actual villain or just a rival, I think her introduction ultimately needed to be very different to prevent turning those two characters into two totally different, and more one-dimensional and flat, characters.
I have a couple ideas for new skits, if you care.
-Quinten Bakersfield and the Pastry Trap. A Willy Wonka parody with an extremely dark twist. That being the kids were kidnapped and forced to try out Quinten’s disgusting and even outright deadly food!
-QWERTYBOY. A series of skits with a block-headed character that does random things for the sake of it, terrifying everyone around him.
-Animation Domination. Think the “Suffragette City” skit but more fleshed out and original characters. It’d follow a group of cartoon characters trying to get respect from Hollywood even though they’re cartoons, and not live-action humans. Also, it be a blend of animation and live action, like Roger Rabbit.
I love your ideas about using the original characters in the reboot; especially with Minerva and Wilford.
The one thing I would fix about the reboot is the humor. Most of the jokes (especially in the Warner segments) weren't funny. I hate it when the joke has to be explained or drawn out too long. In the original series a scene would just play out and move on. I miss humor like that.
Another thing I wanted to add about the show's humor is the way the original show would parody pop culture. A lot has happened between 1998 and 2020. Think of all the movies, TV shows, and music videos the reboot could have spoofed. It missed a lot of opportunities there.

Slappy/Skippy & Rita/Runt/Goodfeathers were my favorites. Also pretty fond of Flavio/Marita & the Skeleton & Mime dudes.
They could have also kept both Hello Nurse, Katy Kaboom, & Minerva Mink. I know Minerva would be relatable to a lot of Instagram models & Twitch streamers, & she does seem to be somewhat popular with some transwomen.
If your vision of an Animaniacs reboot were to happen, I'm up for an episode that makes fun of Disney for always having "the same old twist villian" or generational trauma in thier movies. Heck, the Warners could pay a visit to their rival studio and through a song, show the writers how to create a real bad guy.

Most of the segments of the reboot are hilarious. There are a few weak ones like bun control. The anime sequence comes out of nowhere. What does Shounen anime have to do with gun control. That should have been it's own segment.

I always thought a good topic for them to tackle is to have the Warners go up against adult animation. Sort of have them be the epitome of early 2000s edgy show for "young adults". Imagine Warners Vs the Drawn Together cast as an idea of what they would be like. You could even have them come out of "hibernation" like the Warners did in the OG show.

The argument for not bringing the Goodfeathers back is such a lame excuse. These new writers worked on Family Guy, which is nothing but parodies from the 80s, an era most of the younger viewers for this show were not even born yet. You can not tell me that a film such as Goodfellas and the Godfather are outdated. And even if that is the case, kids will understand that they are gangster pigeons. The new writers should just admit that they hated the old show and that's it!

To give a possible idea for a reimagining of some of the new characters from the reboot, following with the idea of Hello Nurse (Heloise Nerz) being the new WB CEO, Nora could be Nurse's secretary, almost like the right hand woman of Hello Nurse, maybe being the character that doesn't understand what's going on, and maybe Nurse giving a few advices to Nora on what to do when she's in a problem with the Warner siblings, and I do agree with the other characters having a different role, like Julia being the main villain for the Pinky And The Brain segments, and I don't mind keeping the ones of Starbox & Cindy, they seemed cute for me, and The Incredible Gnome In People's Mouth sounds weird, yet funny, and his voiced by John DiMaggio, so that's a yes to me, except Neil, he needs to be cut on how he's just buff man stereotype number 1476 (random number), the less I see this type the better

A way I'd reboot it is have it be more serialized, with ACME having frozen all the rest of the OG cast, as well as the Tiny Toons, 7-Arts Cast, the rest of the miscellaneous Looney Tunes cast, and the Chariman is trying to capture the Warners and the standard cast of Looney Tunes as an act of revenge for being turned into a monkey at the end of Looney Tunes: Back In Action.
I think there’s are all some really clever ideas. I’d have loved to see a reboot/sequel series work this way.

If I were going to write an episode of Animaniacs for the modern day, I'd make it a very unsubtle poke at David Zaslav and his undermining of WB's animation departments. Maybe throw in a Duck Amuck reference and have a cartoon version of him erasing characters off the drawing board.

It'll be nice if they reboot it again and start it off with them erasing this reboot from the timeline and starting again fresh but in the way you describe it with all the people that wanted to be apart of it.

17:50 Honestly, I was about to disagree with you, but then I was reminded of how the Warners were created to begin with and you’re right: Yakko, Wakko, and Dot literally weren’t built for a conflict like what was in the episode. It doesn’t fit them at all.
With the Minerva Minx and Wilford idea it does work. The wolf comes out some people don't believe it and mock the couple. Wilford isnt surprise and takes it in stride as the moon rises. When he changes Minerva hops into his arms as he says catching her, "sorry y'all but i do belong to this honey." While he smirks with his teeth showing. Then Minerva proclaims, "and i love my man" giving him a big smooth at the end.
It does work with some tweaking
I have an idea for a skit where they make fun of Disney for making life action remakes. The warners pay a visit to their rival studio and show the filmmakers that animated films are perfect the way they are and that there’s no need to remake them into live action garbage just to make a quick buck.

I disagree about Rita & Runt. They don't need to be homeless to have musical adventures. Dr. Scratchnsniff is a busy man, & god only knows what pets do or where they go when you let them out during the day.
I've had a thought myself for a skit. It'd be called, "Mannfred and Deulie, based on Stephen Spielberg's first movie, "Duel". The name Mannfred stems from the main character of that move, David Mann. In that movie he and his car, a little red Plymouth Valiant, are chased by a mysterious driver in a huge, rusty tanker truck.
This movie's been referenced in cartoons, from Tiny Toon Adventures', "Night Ghoulery", to that Pinky and the Brain skit where Brain builds an autonomous car.
My thought would be to have both the car and the truck be the main focus. Sort of a Tom and Jerry team on wheels.
Deulie'd be chasing Mannfred through all the 50 states, and part of canada, (with a parody of Hulu's, "Letterkenny" thrown in for the older folks to laugh at).
Each time the skit could end with either victory, defeat, or a draw, similar to T&J's format.
Beings as Tom and Jerry are Warner properties, they could even cameo.
And to preserve the homage, only outside characters would be able to talk for the most part.
Of course, the animation'd require more funding, as I'd insist the skits be animated using hand-drawn animation, and using the early 90's style. But that'd just be wishful thinking.

I'd say fire the existing writers and just have you writing the scripts, but the reboot got cancelled too.
But it's clear you put far, far more thought into the characters, concepts, and ideas, than the rebooters did.
Minerva Mink as a Twitch Streamer is a GENIUS idea.
You could write episodes about her dealing with simps and clingy "whales", who think throwing money at Minerva means they're entitled to her affections. You could go full-on horror short with one where Minerva gets a stalker and has to deal with the reality of many Creatives who attract the wrong kind of fans. Like Minerva might have to deal with getting doxxed in one of her shorts when she snubs an overly forward paypig (who could be a literal Pig), so he tries to ruin her Twitch Stream career out of spite.
It could be a VERY effective way to show the dangers of putting your personal information online, and how malicious parties will use it to hurt you.
So basically change everything but the voices.

I would've preferred the series end with Yakko throwing up the tablet he swallowed and forgetting everything that happened, and the Warner siblings run off to cause more mischief.
You're asking for way too much serial continuity from an episodic series that rarely makes callbacks to previous episodes.
Another issue with Animaniacs 2020 that needs to be addressed is the designs of the background human characters. They made the humans look so hideous and grotesque in the reboot as opposed to maintaining the caricatured yet realistic-looking humans of the original show.
In short, Do away with the hideous humans and bring back the more appealing-looking ones.

2. Make jokes at the expense of every one not just Trump

4. Age up Mindy and kill off Buttons then replace Buttons with a new puppy that roll reverses Mindy

6 Stop avoiding jokes for fear that "kids are too young to get it"
7. keep the quick witted adult humor that's said in a clean double meaning
8. add more songs
9. bring back other WB properties
10. as much as we love the OG VAs acknowledge that some times they sound tiered and its ok to replace them. Writing is all that matters.

Even Buddy as a bonus bein' the equivalent to Epic Mickey's Mad Doctor cretin' new experiments and Inventions to get back at The Warnersand maybe those early prototype versions of The Warner themselves similar to Plucky Duck at one point (there's seriously a concept art piece of them If ya don't believe me!) bein' the new Oswald!
#5: Make the Siblings be themselves an be equal with eachother *WITHOUT* Dot herself Womanhandelin' everythin' on her own while her brothers are worthless now.
#6: Make regular promising crossovers we all wished when we we're kids not just the 90's be even early mid 2000's back before the show ended for good.

These rewrite ideas seem awesome! Especially in reinventing the show, and how, even if you have some of the original crew, the best way to make a reboot is to love the original work, or at least the ideas.
The removal of Hello Nurse and adjusting of Dot will remind me so much of how they removed Ms. Bellum in PPG16 and oddly made the puffs more reliant on males, not to mention the recasting. Even the new Little Mermaid has aspects of "the guys can stay, but the girls get an overhaul or are yanked". (This is regarding how press releases are claiming to give Ariel more agency when she already had a lot of agency in the original- I'm completely fine with the casting, beyond the whole 'Will Disney discard this redesign' implication that Ducktales '17 has experienced.)
Ducktales '17 managed to evolve Webby, Ms. Beakley, Gandra Dee, Magica, and even Gosalyn, without losing their cores- while also finally giving the under-explored Della a role as a foil to Donald.
Reboots shouldn't just reuse things, they should reinvent and improve on things, not scrap and neglect.
