One of the showrunners for the show is Wellsley Wild, who's mainly known for working on adult shows, such as Family Guy. This is the first time he worked on a kids show. I'm guessing the show has an identity crisis since it's more like a cynical adult show that doesn't want to be a kids show rather than a kids show that also wants to appeal to older audiences.
I get a serious post-movie SpongeBob vibe from the Warners. They feel like exaggerations of their defining traits. Yakko just tells naff jokes. Wakko’s a gross retard and Dot’s a passive-aggressive bra burner.
Wait, wait, wait, wait! Are you saying the a-hole who wrote that ONE infamous Family Guy episode that we don't talk about took part of this?! ...that would explain a lot. 😑 Clearly somebody lit a cigarette near a gas leak.
1. 90% of the cast is missing. 2. Too much meta humor ("Hey look at us! We're doing a reboot!") 3. Political jokes are completely one-sided. 4. What did they do to Dot?
@@frogglen6350 I'll give you 2, but not 3. Animaniacs 1993, while it's obvious which side the showrunners were on, still did jokes about both parties. Animaniacs 2020 is "Orange man bad! Tucker Carlson bad! Orange man bad!"
Not to mention how they easily mock evil leaders like Vladmir Putin but not Xi Jinping who is considered fine with other world leaders during Pinky and the Brain episode.
@@scottedge4388Okay but-- and I hate to break it to you, even if those statements are over doned at this point, Donald Trump is indeed "bad" and so is Carl Tucker and deverses to be ridiculed for everything they do. Hard to be centrist about it when those people being mocked have ruined lives, spread hate mongering lies, or even been responsible for the deaths of many.
One thing I will say is that Tom Rugger actually gave ideas on what he would have done if he was given some creative input which are actually better then the reboot's ideas First instead of the Warners not exsiting for 20 years only to be reanimated Rugger instead said that he would have had a reveal where the Warners where the ones controlling the internet from inside the Warner Tower for 20 years. And this makes a lot of sense and shows off the Warners personalities the best Another idea was to have Hello Nurse be the new CEO instead of that genric lady in the actual show and this also makes sense consdering how Hello Nurse was portrayed to be smart (it's shown the best in Wakko's Wish) And a final change was to bring back Slappy Squirel and have them be aged up where Skippy would be a adult still living with Slappy with Slappy desperately trying to get him to move out. Once again a really funny concept which feels like something that the orignal show would do But nah let's bring the Family Guy writers to handle this show not the orignal creator because we know that Family Guy has had some good writing/humor in the last 30 years
@@duhdeedee If i recall correctly it was stated that that spinoff was non canon; but maybe they could allude to it with things like “Recall all Elmyra DVDs” or “Erase Elmyra’s Memory”. Those changes do sound interesting, but I would also leave the Gnome and Starbox/Cindy as part of the cast; with the addition of having four or three appearances per season instead. Heck, why not give dedicated segments to the WB crew (like the CEO, the animator or other characters they could bounce off of) so they’re more defined (although keeping in mind season 2’s ending twist that could happen)?
They could at least put in the effort to speed up the recordings of Tress McNeil to simulate a higher pitch. Which is common and inexpensive in audio recording.
It's heartbreaking. She used to have such a massive range. Now she can only do her normal voice. It reminds me of Mel Blanc in the 70s and 80s. You know, when the Looney Tunes sounded like when they were going through puberty.
@@Saltedroastedcaramel Even Mel Blanc got old, look at some of the Looney Tunes recorded after the accident he had and as he got older. The difference is massive.
When the reboot first came out everyone I knew was raving about how good it was, telling me it was just as great as the original and even better in some regards. After about a month none of those people have ever mentioned it again. That tells me a lot.
Meanwhile, I STILL take every opportunity I can find to hype up Ducktales 2017, including bringing it up unprompted when people are talking about other shows! Goes to show the difference between a good reboot and a bad one...
I remember watching the whole first season of the reboot and really liking most of it at the time. Then the second season came out and... I just didn't feel like continuing it. I think I finally realized, it's just _not_ what the original was.
The way I saw it, the warners represented three different forms of old school humor: Yakko was of course, quips and fast talking, Wakko was physical slapstick, and Dot was subversive self-awareness. What I mean by that was Dot was aware that she could get away with more by way of charm, but she also had a side to her that would seem REALLY REALLY horrifying if you took it into account being said by a real cute child. Like Children Of The Corn/Twilight Zone creepy.
Also, I think the christmas episode was actually PINKY saying that Brain only wanted to make the world a better place. Brain wanted to rule it because he figured that being smarter then humanity he could do a better job, so it's KINDA the same, only with a bit of ego to it. But Pinky genuinely believes Brain is doing this entirely altruistically, which admittedly kind of blew Brain away in that christmas episode since he probably always assumed the reason Pinky helped him was cause Pinky's a dumb follower who's WILLING to help him.
@@battybuddy I did mention how the "Meticulous Analysis of History" song shows that Brain wanted to rule the world with an ironfist, but also learn the mistakes of past dictators. Still don't get why V's thinking what Pinky's thinking, or how Brain's motivation equates to benevolence... but hey, I'm not Spielberg or Ruegger, so that's up to interpretation.
Part of me thinks they just wanted to make a "Pinky and the Brain" reboot, but reluctantly tacked on the Warners and gave them top billing for a quicker buck. The sharp increase in adult cynicism across the board makes so much more sense for the two lab mice than it does for the three puppy children.
Dude that's exactly how I felt watching it! I had fun with some of the Warner's segments, but the rest of the show feels half baked and lacking in comparison.
This show just feels like the epitome of, "Hey let's out right address our criticism but make a lame joke about it instead of actually improving". And it also doesn't help that so many people were defending this show and shutting down those who didn't like it. Along with the common argument made that, "oh the original did this too, so you can't criticize it", even though the original did those elements way better.
10:06 : "It's surprisingly mean-spirited." That's how I summed up the entire show after forcing myself through half of season 1 before giving up. The original never was. It could at times be quite biting in its commentary on society, but never mean-spirited.
One major problem with 'Animaniacs 2020' was WB not bringing Tom Ruegger back as show runner. Tom Ruegger was A very crucial part of the original show's success. I also agree that the new show focused primarily on The Warners, and Pink & The Brain. They're great characters if you handle them well, but they do get old, and tired if you use them too much. That's why the original had other characters like Slappy Squirrel, Chicken Boo, The Goodfethers, ect. to off set the over usage of the former characters to keep the show from becoming stale, and they would all be A welcome addition to the new show. You also bring up A good point on how the revival doesn't understand who The Warners are. They're agents of chaos to help reign in the more mundane nonsense, but instead became straight men. Dot, especially shouldn't be remade into A 'feminist icon' when she already is. She may look cute on the serface, but she uses it to her advantage.
@@erikbihari3625 They were boring and self absorbed characters that had OBVIOUS main character/plot armor. They could never actually suffer and were insufferable. Their woes were insipid and pointless. Overall, just terrible.

Well, that's just Hollywood's stupid standards with showbiz nowadays. No wonder I couldn't stand that "Reboot It!" song from the reboot. They absolutely don't care if they hate the original show or not but they still gotta reboot it somehow! 🤪 Besides, it STILL sounds stupid though. 🙄
I am a diehard Animaniacs fan and everything you said in that video was correct! While I’m happy the reboot brought in some new fans, being in the fandom was very chaotic (and not in a zany way the Warners would have loved it), especially when I found out the fans didn’t watch the OG and only watch the reboot. I’m still hanging on to hope that the show will get better, but at least I can rest easy knowing we FINALLY got Wakko’s Wish and the entire collection of Animanaics on a single DVD set. And plushies don’t forget the plushies! Anyway great video and I’m happy to know there are OG fans still out there! “Goodnight Everybody!”
I originally became a fan of Animaniacs because of the constant Yakko's World memes from the original I saw online so I watched the original show on Hulu and DVD along with Pinky and the Brain in preparation for the reboot. My original thoughts on the reboot were pretty good and I immediately became involved with the show's fanbase. Later would I find out that the show's fan base was pretty much the equivalent to (in my opinion) when Steve-O from MTV's Jackass took drugs. Being a fan of Animaniacs WAS A NIGHTMARE to follow through for 2 and a half years. On one hand I'm glad that I'm not a fan of Animaniacs anymore but on the other, I'm sad that I'm not a fan of it because I made friends with people online while I was watching the show who watched the show just as much as I did. I originally announced on my Twitter a year ago that I was done with Animaniacs. And I still have an unfinished Pinky and the Brain season that I need to finish on DVD along with Pinky, Elmyra, and The Brain a spin-off that focused on Pinky and the Brain being with Elmyra from Tiny Toons.

Honestly it really sucks how much they sucked out all the creativity and liveliness of the original and replaced it with mediocre cartoon writing which barely feels like the original series at best, or absolute pandering to the point of reaching hypocrisy at worst. It's almost everything I hate about most television and cinema media these days.
Yes, exactly! It's essentially all the crap us quality-loving classic media fans hate about modern media. This is *NOT* Animaniacs, just some cash-grab woke propaganda bastardization.😡
I personally talked with Tom Ruegger and Sherri Stoner (The Creator and Slappy Squirrel respectively), they were extremely disappointed with this Reboot, in fact they downright hate it lmao.
Did they give a reason? Tom and Sherri weren't reached due to monetary limitations around their involvement (at least in Tom's case), so their perspective could be biased as they were alienated from the reboot from the start.
@@miragenights801 He felt the reboot didn't have the magic of the Original, and it has nothing that made the Original series great, and that it ruined the Warners.
@@OfficialRaveBlitz Well those reasons are vague and inflated. It's interesting he'd say that when he was quoted as wanting the reboot to succeed and wanting people to like it. The reboot was always meant to be a different brand from the original. It caters to fans that felt the supporting cast was a chore to sit through and wanted expansion upon the Warner trio and their sibling fluff, which is more than is being acknowledged. Animaniacs 93 was an all-around skit variety, whereas modern Animaniacs leans more toward the family adventure side. The Warners aren't ruined, their baseline personalities are untouched with added nuances. You want to see actual character assassination, look at Spongebob. Yakko, Wakko, and Dot didn't get bastardized one quarter as bad as he did.
@@OfficialRaveBlitz They did what? Wanted people to like the reboot or felt the Warners were miswritten? If it's the latter, then I honestly have nothing to say. The reboot went out of its way to research the original show down to its characterizations. The Warners in the reboot are developed and have more layers to their core personalities. They're not as one-note like in the original. Yakko's a clever smartass, but his insecurity makes him more endearing as it shows he strives to be a better person for his siblings. Wakko is still Wakko. Dot has matured into her own person. I love them in the reboot, and it breaks my heart that a 4th season probably won't be lit now all because people are nostalgia elitists and can't handle things being not 100% how they remember/true to their ridiculous headcanons.
Thank you so much for making this. The reboot truly disappointed me. The wrong people were working on it. Instead of former Family Guy writers, they really needed Tom Ruegger and his team. Sadly, they didn't even ask the man or let him be involved.
Technically, only one Family Guy writer (Wellsley Wild) is involved here as co-showrunner. The rest of the writers (except for Greg White, the show's story editor) are known more for writing live action sitcoms or sketch comedy shows, not animation.
I agree wholeheartedly. I had watched the first episode of the reboot and I was done. It wasn't funny, smart or entertaining. It's an unenjoyable mess.
I'm glad you went into detail about how Dot's the only Warner who weaponizes cuteness. Sure, all the Warner's are cute in their own ways (something I've heard in order to "combat" the change to wit), but weaponizing it was Dot's main thing before, as you said, she drops the facade
When I saw the reboot, I felt the Warner brothers were like 30% restricted to what they can do while Pinky and the Brain actually feels like the original to an extent.
The latter is even more relevant now than it was then if for no other reason than because of how the hegemony of a certain other cartoon mouse has become a serious social problem.
I was excited initially hearing about animaniacs coming back. First season and I was bored, annoyed, and frustrated with literally everything. In regards to Hello Nurse for example, it's the same situation with Bellum from the Powerpuff girls. Women with breasts and sexually appealing bodies? Not allowed because let's just ignore the fact that for both bellum and hello nurse they were shown to be highly intelligent, component, hardworking, passionate with their fields, empathetic, prepared (learning useful skills like nurse learning Japanese). Now MAYBE it could be argued that in the original show they go too far with the hello nurse bit but, correct me if I'm wrong. Nurse was never shown to be uncomfortable with their behavior and dot was always there to reign them in showing that this kind of behavior is wrong. Also in the original show there's a whole song by yakko and wakko about their respect and acknowledging her successes and achievements with multiple PhDs, being passionate/good at her job etc. The siblings have just been downgraded, it's embarrassing. There were very few if any opponents that could actually bring down the Warner siblings. Dot is just annoying to listen to everytime trying to dunk on men at every opportunity. You can bring women up without tearing men down. Yakko and wakko have become boring and just shells of their former selves. I hate they didn't include slappy and Skippy bit. Personally that one was one of if not my favorite side show in Animaniacs. I loved the sweet relationship Skippy had being optimistic and starry eyed about her fame and looks up to her. Meanwhile counter balanced with slappy's more cynical/realistic approach to life and problems. And it's just funny in general. But also shows that at times Skippy will pick up a thing or two from his aunt while slappy has shown to have a softer side. In the episode Skippy sees the Bambi parody, slappy does everything she can to get him to stop crying because she cant bear to see him upset and is also annoyed by it but, who wouldn't. But still genuinely cares about him and his happiness. The politics in this show is so heavily ham fisted and forced it's not even funny. Yess the original show made fun of politics but, it was sparingly and they went after everybody. Remember in the original cartoons president songs when they got to the Clintons they bashed both Hillary and Bill. Now all of a sudden Dot is praising Hillary like a goddess or a great symbol of female empowerment... Why...?
HN and miss Bellum aren't the same characters just because they were removed for similar reasons doesn't make them the same character. HN was a prop and Bellum was a character and the show Animaniacs ended when OG! PPG premiered. HN was more like "hey! I'm more than just boobs and I actually have a brain!" While miss Bellum's purpose was what people what think that she would be a cliche secretary hottie and she was named after the part of the brain cell while Hello nurse on the other hand......sometimes didn't act like she had one and she was just a name for the catcall.
@@marshmallowfluff2nd413 I never said they were the same character. What are you talking about? When did I say or hint or suggest they were the same? I never said they were the same character so do me a favor and re-read the comment cause clearly you misinterpreted something somewhere at some point. Also NO Hello Nurse was not a 'prop' she was a character and a good one.
@@thomasgibbons3226 I know you never said that they were the same characters I was just trying to point out some differences they had that's all. And excuse you, but I did read the comment twice before I made my own comment. But the rest of the things you said is very understandable. And I had to rewatch some scenes that Hello nurse was in, and some of was just her being just a one shot joke or just being in the background. And the things that was described in the song felt like a typical mary sue like description. But I still believe that Hello Nurse just existed for the catchphrase and for merchandise reasonings. I just get tired of people keep saying that Hello nurse and miss bellum sharing things in common just because they are removed from revivals cuz of controversy. But if you find her a good character then that's fine, it's just that I never saw any hidden depth with her IMO. (And side note: I'm sorry if I did miscalculated a few things)
Also, to add to the PPG 2016 comparison, they also contradict themselves by using over-sexualized designs anyway, some arguably more sexualized than the ones they removed.
Two more points: 1) no wonder slappy was not in this show. She would be the exact character to point all these flaws and bs out 2) the skit with the girl and the alien is just a terrible boring version of pinky elmire and the brain
The problem with Dot is that 90’s feminism is not the same as Aught’s Feminism; there was _some_ annoyance in the former? But 90’s feminism was much more about genuine equality, and the idea that a girl could give and take on equal footing as any guy. Basically, “give us the opportunity to make our own decisions and deal with the ensuing consequences. Aught’s feminism, however, often revolves a rather mean-spirited, antagonist approach to men. And that they want to do whatever they want, and suffer no consequences for it. They have to do whatever men do, better than they can, which often means poaching male character’s positive traits. So, I’d say that Dot was a feminist icon in both eras- but I, for one, prefer the 90’s era to the -Aught’s.
The majority of current-day Feminism still IS the same as 90s feminism. There's just a bunch of loud fuckwads making it seem the other way. As it always is.
So… I take it you never watched _The Simpsons_ episode “Homer: Bad Man”? Also, 90s feminism was still cringe, because it was *still* just girls making everything *about* their gender, instead of just treating their gender as normal. Like… I thought the whole point was that we *didn’t* want to make everything about gender, and let girls know that it’s okay to view their *own frigging gender* as the “default” one, instead of just the “other” gender in society?
P.S. Sorry for the septuple post! I was writing that comment on my phone while on the bus, so I might have just got bad reception. I sincerely apologise for the inconvenience. :/
Also, I’m not sure if you’re aware of this, but… women already had equal rights by the 1990s, so feminism was just as pointless then as it is now. The only reason it wasn’t as toxic was because social media wasn’t a thing, what with crappy dialup modems and whatnot.
Since I first saw it, I always thought the Bun/Gun Control allegory would've worked way better if they went for the "right to bear arms" pun - as in bears' paws - since bear arms could actually be used to kill like a gun and, like guns, aren't alive or able to act on their own. You could actually portray the attitudes of gun owners and their defences instead of just painting them as irresponsible breeders (even if the Warners calling them out would be kinda hypocritical knowing their slapstick ways), and the anime scene could've ended with the Warners calling upon all the limbless bears the salesman stole the paws from
That makes a better episode. Watching that episode and wondering why a caricature of Steven King is forcing rabbits on the Warners. Oh, that's supposed to be Wayne LaPierre?
When I saw that episode, I thought it was strangely both way too obtuse and way too on-the-nose at the same time. And it felt kinda preachy and forced, even to people who are in support of gun control.
I always had the feeling they didn't know what they were doing with the Warners. But I could never put it it into words - this was extremely eloquent and got to the root of the prooblem perfectly.
This is what is wrong with the world today in my opinion. The mean spiritedness, the bitterness, the disregard of things. These are ingredients to a foul and toxic dish people push to be a good thing. Too many shows, fandoms, genres have been plagued by this. The people brought on don't care, they never did. They see shows and properties like this as easy money instead of a legacy to be honored. How hard is it to be respectful? Mindful? Honorable? How much is it to ask for dignity, decency and love? To Hulu and these show runners? Too much! But if you say anything at all, if you don't consume the slop being pushed as fine wine you'll be slandered, mocked, ridiculed, until you either turn away or give in. I'm so sorry you had to endure this but know that the original has and will always be around. We need people like you, me, many others now more than ever. Even if we cannot make it to the status that they have we can help by inspiring others, pushing our own ideas, being adamant in our beliefs. I wish you well and more in the future, I however cannot say the same to the people who desecrated this show.
If a reboot of a 90's shows show that has things you don't like is "What is wrong with the world today", you live an incredibly sheltered, privileged life.
@@matthewmartin1852 but what I said can be applied to anything, I feel the world these days is plagued by bitterness and outrage and I feel media is a symptom of it. Yes it is a reboot but I've seen this stuff happen so many times that it isn't funny. Also I should have added in terms of entertainment but I wasn't thinking at the time to be honest. As for my life, I had to go through a lot to get the safe life I live today so it wasn't always easy for me. I guess the other reason I got so passionate was because the 90s was my childhood and it takes me back to when things were simpler and my grandparents were alive. Terribly sorry if I sounded like I was being overdramatic, it honestly wasn't intentional.
@@matthewmartin1852 I think you're proving the point by being mean-spirited, bitter, and disregarding the person's point of view just to be a huge jerk. Yeah, it's a bad reboot of a 90s show but where do you get off acting like you're so high and mighty in comparison to this guy with that kind of attitude? What was the end game? Win him over with abrasive rude comments? You got to be displacing your own anger and self-loathing on him because you're in the same boat I guess. I mean only an incredibly sheltered and privileged individual would have the time to get cross about a man just saying he doesn't like nasty negativity infecting his fun carefree cartoons and you got a problem with that? Maybe you ought to reevaluate your own life buddy plenty enough there to keep you busy by the looks.
Well if I may need to point out why Dot doesn’t sound like the original, I mean no one minds if I point this out right? As far as I heard from a few sources the voice actress for Dot Tress MacNeille is currently 71 years old and can’t go as high as she used to for the original, which would probably explain why her voice sounds deep
It's the same problem the Simpsons characters have where the voice actors are starting to lose their voice. I probably would have gotten a sound alike as it's no better than the original voice at this point.

Just as removing all the characters outside of the Warners and Pinky and the Brain segments was a mistake, it's a mistake that in the new Beavis and Butt-head episodes, no recurring characters besides Anderson, Van Driessen, and Stewart have appeared (no Buzzcut, McVicker, or Todd)
Oh THAT's why I didn't enjoy it as much as the originals! I wondered why since there were some jokes that made me smile but not laugh, while the original was full of laughter, before and after the new series. Pretty weird that they didn't appear though. We had some but the best ones are nowhere to be seen, especially Buzzcut. He was funnier than the two main characters!
Greetings Earthlings we are Smart-Beavis and Smart-Butthead. The Smartest versions of Beavis and Butthead in the Multiverse. We're here to say "Beavis and Butthead: Do the Universe" is better than the TV Series. Droll, very droll, yes. Whimsical.
My initial thought about the reboot when I first heard about it was, "I've got a bad feeling about this." And needless to say, I was right. The reboot was just a middle finger to the fans.
It doesn’t even make sense either. If the executives didn’t like the original Animaniacs, then why would they bother to reboot it in the first place? Clearly, they only saw it as a popular brand name and were like, “Yeah, we don’t really like the original show, so we’re gonna reboot it by making it the complete opposite of what it truly was. That’s a great idea!” Now I myself never watched Animaniacs at all, but I can tell that’s what they were thinking. It’s been said time and time again, but all executives want is to make money by taking popular things and changing it to where pretty much almost everybody doesn’t care anymore. I mean, come on. We have Nickelodeon who won’t let go of SpongeBob and the Loud House, Disney screwed up with the Star Wars sequel trilogy without having a plan, and Cartoon Network is sort of in big trouble no thanks to David Zaslav. Sadly, given that’s what the entertainment industry and Hollywood is, we can’t do anything about it.
The original Animaniacs is a timeless classic anyone of any background can enjoy. The reboot is an aged, dated hate message to the people the creators don't agree with and is only enjoyable to people equally as spiteful and angry.
Actually, I can say that the new Animaniacs inspired me. Specifically, it inspired me to develop something better. Ever since I tried the first season, I've been working on characters and scripts for a show that harkens back to the style that made the original good. Sometimes a show hits you so wrong that just talking about it isn't enough; a more active approach at correcting the problems must be taken. I'm sure I'm not the only one who felt that way. Anyway, it felt cathartic to watch this and see that I'm really not alone in thinking this reboot was inferior to the original.
That’s awesome! Would love to learn more about your idea, if you’re open to sharing. I’m taking the same approach by developing my own cartoon with the creative sensibilities I desire to see.
That's how I felt returning to sharp my writing and drawing skills after hearing about Borba's Awful Zootopia Comics (If you haven't heard about them, consider yourself lucky) Another example for it is Raya and the last dragon. Edit: I think it's worth mentioning TAWOG at some degree, but unlike the previously mentioned Comics and Raya, it has a lot more positives still. My biggest gripes however are from the season 3+ Era of the show: Plenty of characters behave out of character, the weirdness goes too extreme at times. And while the lore is interesting (in fact I see a lot of creativity if it was more mentioned), it feels VERY unfinished and lacking, which is the reason I make content about me expanding it via my Headcanons and Characters made for them. Once again, the show is not bad (It's still better than this one for sure) but it DEFINITELY needs a lot of fixing and expanding The Lore and certain characters instead of using the same ones all the time. (it feels very exhausting after a while)
I didn’t hate the reboot, but I do hope we can break free from the age of trying to censor absolutely everything. Bringing back Animaniacs and trying to cut out stuff like Hello Nurse and thinking Dot needs to be pumped full of strong female protagonist lines is so stupid and actively goes against why anyone would want the trio brought back in the first place. We keep seeing beloved franchises return but as Frankenstein versions with things fans love cut off and replaced with what they hope will offend nobody.
I've called this the "Anti-Horny" era, but I think most call it the "Woke" era, I'm glad I'm not the only one getting tired of it. I'm hard left, but equality and equity doesn't mean telling a man he can't have a steak because a baby can't chew it.
Look, good comedy is offensive... It's supposed to challenge the status quo and not become it. Animaniacs was so great, they went after EVERYONE, EVERYTHING, and were pretty unapologetic about it as possible. I was expecting the 2020 reboot to do the same thing, to go after shows like Steven Universe picking out the flaws, Harping even more on Disney Live Action remakes, and pointing out how stupid they are, I was hoping if they made fun of RUclipsrs for crying out loud!! This is a very sanitized version of the Animaniacs to the point where there is no flavor.
The Bun control sketch is the worst. The anime sequence is too random and out of no where. It would have been way better if we got a whole segment that was an anime spoof.
20:49 Boom, you hit the nail on the head. The old Animaniacs was written for EVERYONE to laugh at themselves and, although there were defiantly political jabs in both directions, it was more subtle, balanced and better thought out than this modern iteration (though I can't say I'm surprised when you look at who some of the writers are on this reboot). From Bill Clinton's bits and sax playing, to Rush Limbaugh jabs (R.I.P.)... the original writers knew exactly how much to push the envelope and how to convey a good sense of humor without taking sides. EDIT: I just want to say, at 29:20, You are amazing for putting El Manana as the background music... really underrated song from Demon Days.
I always thought there was an innocence to the original Animaniacs with its political humour. Bill Clinton plays the sax, Churchill had a bouncy belly, Rasputin had crazy hypnosis powers... it was almost like a child who briefly walked past a TV with the news playing and remembered only one or two of the most cartoon-ish details about it, and there was something really charming about. It was a hell of a lot more charming than several minutes of soapbox-ing Donald Trump impressions.
I remember the joke that Dot would get annoyed at her brothers for drooling over a hot girl, then she would see a hot guy and start drooling over him. That's actual equality right there. Too bad it doesn't fit the political agenda these days.
Nope, it sadly seems that bopping the brothers, stealing Yakko's prominent role, shushing up their "mansplaining" and casually removing Hello Nurse and Minerva Mink as if they never existed were the only way to satisfy the woke & PC censors. A shame, really, as those missing characters are sorely missed. I don't miss "Buttons & Mindy" or "Katy Ka-Boom", though, as I always thought those skits sucked. And "Chicken Boo" was a gag that only worked once, but became hopelessly tiresome when the formula was repeated over and over again. Making him a secret top villain in the new series doesn't make any sense at all. the new show is beautiful in the animation scenes, but nowhere near as funny as the original 1993-1999 version. Sorry, Steven Spielberg, but the woke jokes just don't work. They are not funny. And now Steven is going to re-boot "Tiny Toon Adventures" for 2023 by making Buster & Babs siblings instead of boyfriend & girlfriend. Give it a rest, already ,Steven. We don't need a re-boot of "Freakazoid' or "Road Rovers", either. Those two shows were fine the way they were back in the 90's.
@@robertorick6383 You don't remember the original show either then. Minerva and Hello Nurse got their appearances severely neutered (if not phased out fairly) early on in the original run and definitely once it fell into syndication. I'm not surprised there's a certain kind of dude who gets mad about a sassy character like Dot acting sassy/teasing/downright irrational at guys (which happened a lot too, it was funny and no one took it personally) but pretending like this is some new 'woke' agenda is hysterical and usually tells me someone is either deliberately misremembering or is a lying zoomer.
@@oshkeet First off, for your information, I was born in 1968, so that makes me a Generation X'er, not a Zoomer. Second, yes, I remember that Minerva Mink and Hello Nurse were censored. Minerva especially got the censor's ax more often from the nervous censors, but still had a lasting impact on viewers and fans to this day. The internet is loaded with fans of her who do tribute drawings to her, good and offensive that are still a symbol to her dedication of her admiration in her absence. You may think I'm not smart enough to realize that censors can be unreasonable (look at Governor Ron DeSantis and his waste of time debating with Disney) , but I am smart enough to know that Paul Dini and Sherri Stoner are Minerva's creators. Not a lot of "Animaniacs" viewers know that, and Paul Dini is a brilliant animator and storywriter who also came up with Harley Quinn of "The Animated Batman Series" with Bruce Timm, so that's nothing to sneeze at. Third, if you think I'm some kind of person that gets mad at Dot Warner who gets sassy (the word is "incel", I presume, and yes, it's some kind of slur against men and boys who are celibate by choice. They are NOT all members of horrible organizations like "MGTOW" or Nationalist/ Fascist societies like the Proud Boys who support a schmuck like Donald Trump. Donald Trump can suck it for all I can tell. He does not recommend any kind of advice or suggestions that I seek, and I am not a member of his team/cult.)then you must be judging me for no good reason. Dot can be cute and funny, depending on the writer who scripts her lines, and the writer of "Family Guy" (Wellsley Wild) seems all wrong for the show; I preferred writers like Tom Ruegger, Peter Hastings, and Sherri Stoner, but they are somehow not involved with the new show. Tom Ruegger, in particular is sore about not being chosen to write for the new series and wonders why Steven Spielberg is ignoring him. Also note that former John K. artist/accuser Katie Rice also writes scripts for the new series. But aside from the point of order, you think that I hate or distrust Dot's sense of character or judgement. Not only is that incorrect, but I also do notice the changes are slightly more forced and contrived from the playful original series put-downs and zingers, so please don't accuse me of misogyny or any other sort of hatred/bigotry. I like Dot just the same. Do you think I'm hysterical? Perhaps? But it's all in subjection, and I am not doing this for any political stature. I prefer to be rational about it. Yes, I know that the woke agenda is nothing new. Censorship is as old as time itself. There is always going to be some political or authority creeps that will tell you what and what not to watch or listen to, no matter what the circumstances are, so no, Dot's misandry transformation is not my worries or my problem. It's simply the new fad or phrase in movies & TV. Why knock a few men & boys off their pedestals by the thousands just for some good cause, no matter how insulting or vulgar, that is okay by me. Transgenders are having their field days in the sun by knocking straight people down their paths and putting them in their places, so why not? It's all entertainment, after all, and a producer like Steven Spielberg is just showing us the ropes. Please note in other messages from me that I defend Mr. Spielberg no matter what his opinions are about life, and I'll defend him from a crab that I used to support and idolize like John K., who absolutely despises the man without any sense of substance (one story is that he's jealous of Mr. Spielberg because he makes more money than John K., but that's his problem, not mine. John K. has gone down in "Animaniacs" history as a man who hates the show without even watching an episode, so the decision I make is that John is just plain ignorant.) George Orwell is probably spinning in his grave over all of this insanity of woke behavior. As far as Hello Nurse (or Heloise Nurse, as her real name has been revealed) has been seen on the show far more often than Minerva and even appeared on a few "Animaniacs" merchandise in the stores (like the now defunct "W-B store", which was a deliberate attempt to steal ideas from the Disney Store) , so it wasn't like she was in short supply of demand from viewers or fans. I happen to be among "Animaniac's" original key members (along with "Ren & Stimpy's") who remember the first time the show came on the air on September 1993, so there's no need to tell me I don't remember anything about the show's history. There were segments I liked ("Slappy Squirrel" was one of my all time favorites), and there were bad and forgettable segments (the ones I mentioned in the above post) , so as you can see, I know my history of "Animaniacs' as well as you think you do. I suggest in the future before you choose to criticize a fan of the show like myself, that you think before you choose to insult or put down certain kinds of fans, otherwise that will make you a computer troll, and no one likes a troll. Put your money where your mouth is, or don't say nothing at all. it's that simple. Thank you for your cooperation. Oh, and as Yakko likes to say, "Please, please, please get a life" (sarc.)🙃
@@robertorick6383 ok boomer Writing a whole novel in a comments section no one is gonna read and finishing it off with a 'get a life' quote is some hard-grade irony. go outside, stop being mad at girls, and stop stressin bout cartoons you were already too old to watch when they were out
@@oshkeet Okay, I do not expect anything resembling an apology from you. I can clearly see that you are a troll. You also can't tell the difference between a Boomer and a Generation X'er. Boomers were born between 1946 and 1964 for your information, while Generation X people like myself were born between 1965 to 1981. Get your facts straight. Furthermore, you think I'm some kind of incel or misogynist that gets angry at girls easily. If that's the way you feel about me, fine. I'll settle for your petty insults than try to make you learn something about putting somebody down. I told you in the comments above that I like Dot Warner the same no matter what the situation is, but I just notice the changes in her with the new series, period. No hatred involved. Let your conscience be your guide if you want to respond to me with more put downs (you DO have a conscience, don't you?) Not all males are toxic masculinists, so think before you insult. I also told you I don't follow political dummies like Trump or DeSantis, so I'm not a far-right winger. In fact, I'm pretty apolitical. The "please please please get a life" quote was a real bumper episode in "Animaniacs", and Yakko took it to himself to use it as an answer to computer hacks that use too much information to correct mistakes in cartoon episodes. I just got back today from being outside walking my dog, so don't worry about if I don't get enough fresh air or exercise; in fact I get plenty. And finally, there are plenty of adult cartoon fans (why do you think outlets like "Adult Swim" exist on the cable and streaming channels?) so don't be an ageist about how too old they are to watch animation. All people who write and draw animation are adults, so that makes your claims of "it's only for kids" irevrelent. You can't tell me what I want to watch, so I'll watch whatever I want anyway. I don't trust too many grown up platforms (like stooge politicians) so cartoons make me feel comfortable no matter what age I am. Do I make myself clear? Own up to your putdowns, or be a troll all of your life. You have my sympathy and my pity, but not my thoughts or my choices of what to watch on TV or the movies.
PRAISE THE CARTOON LORD! FINALLY someone points these issues out! I didnt even watch a fraction of Animaniacs compared to others and loathed them in my childhood. Only to during the 2010s due to the recession of cartoons writing, artstyle and overall quality making me see the show in a whole new light and gain a newfound admiration for it. Then see this show do THIS to the characters, i'm genuinely mouth agape at how people did not point them out until now. I am so glad you're putting this video out here.
While I enjoyed the Revival, it's nowhere NEAR as good as The Original. The fact that they think Animaniacs is just The Warners and Pinky and the Brain was really upsetting as well (Slappy literally had the BEST segments in the original)
Dot is top teir, I remember growing up she was literally like the sibling I wish I had. When I was a young kid she was the one I identified with, she was the one who I looked at for "how should I deal with these tough social situations" because despite being the smallest, she was always smart and thought things through with her unique ways. She was one of 3 main characters, and one of the first shows where I saw a role model who could be comfortable with being cute and sweet but also not lose who you are as a person fundamentally. She is a cute an sweet person to people around her, but she also has a wonky meme tier sorta ironic sense of humor that people in the real world are afraid to show. In the old show she was super confident, her cuteness was not at all a weakness, and it wasnt the whole of her personality. It was tiny, surface level. She was unique to me and incredibly smart. I looked at characters like Dot and saw intelligent personalities to look up to (idk maybe thats bad lmao) but nowadays characters in cartoons are starting to feel more shallow. They are feeling more and more cold, atleast wayyyyyy less thoughtful and that makes me sad
I mean… it’s cool that you’re criticising this crap heap of a show, but “cartoons”? As in, anything coming out nowadays? So… I take it you’ve never watched _The Owl House_ or _The Ghost and Molly McGee_ , just to name examples?
Your passion for dots character is fantastic and i never analysed her that way but i have to agree to the commment above. You couldve given some examples of these "shallow cartton characters" oh they exist, i just dont like the idea of calling cartoon characters cold and thoughtless in general. (I just go case by case personally) some people consider childrens cartoons at least, more complex and compassionate with their characters such as the aforementioed owl house and molly mcgee, ducktales,.
Superb video, and I agree with pretty much everything V said. For the characterization of the Warners, I have a feeling that since some of the producers admitted they didn't care for the original show, the people behind the reboot just took the bare basics of what they knew of the trio (them being "wacky, loud, and snarky"), and just made them the same character, with the odd exception being Dot. Now, I don't mind female characters who aren't just pretty faces, but are also strong and have agency, but I do have a problem when people try to make "strong" female characters without giving them any depth, character flaws, or anything genuinely interesting about them, especially when modern writers try to "update" female characters who were already great and beloved, and that's definitely the case with "Nu-maniacs'" take on Dot. By taking away Wakko and especially Yakko's respective shticks and transplanting them onto Dot, it makes them feel redundant, and making Dot's main characteristic "wit" instead of her cuteness takes away what was unique about her. Ironically, by trying to make Dot a "stronger" character, they made it feel like she's overcompensating for the traits they removed, making her feel like a weaker character than her classic counterpart (this is actually a trend I've noticed happen more often in a lot of American/Western media recently). As for Brain, I laughed at some jokes, but I didn't like how they made him more sinister in his personality. Yes, Brain has tried to take over the world via underhanded means multiple times, but his main goal, like V and even Trevor in the past have said, is to take over the world so he can "save" it. He believes he's the only being on the planet who can truly solves all the world's issues, believing humans are too incompetent, and wants to be openly loved and adored as ruler of the Earth, not feared (though, he has admitted it's also "a bit" for "selfish reasons"). That bit of nuance and depth seems to be missing from "Nu!Brain", since it was always Snowball was more the evil supervillain type who wanted to rule through fear and violence. However, the three things which stood out for me for the most were the animation, the jokes, and most of the character designs outside of the returning cast. With the animation, it looks and feels stiff and "puppt-y" to me most of the time. I'm not against digital animation and puppet rigs for animation if they're done well and made to look as smooth, expressive, and seamless as possible, but when it's done badly, it's done *REALLY* badly. Very rarely did it feel like the characters naturally moved. Plus, it's a nitpick, but I don't care for the shade of eggshell white used on the Warners' and Pinky and the Brain's fur compared to the white on their fur in the original. It just feels off. With the jokes, V pretty much said what was on my mind, but I was also wondering as I watched the reboot if the writers just automatically assumed the original Animaniacs had a lot of grossout humor because it was made in the 90s, and just decided "Eh, what the hell?". If so, that definitely shows that they weren't as committed as they said they were, because Animaniacs was well-known for being a 90s cartoon which *didn't* rely on grossout and toilet humor like many of its contemporaries. Also, with the political humor for Animanics and Pinky and the Brain, I would like to say that in my experience watching them, there were couple more times the Republicans got made fun of than the Democrats (Rush Limbaugh was definitely a favorite target), but I will say those shows weren't afraid to mock the Democrats and the Clintons, either (I still remember the episode of Pinky and the Brain which implied that Bill Clinton was actually the "Pinky" to Hillary's "Brain", or the one with Al Gore as an Eeyore parody who was "full of hot air", or the one which had the Clintons as part of a cult which worshipped a parody of The Three Stooges). Besides that, they were actually clever, and not overused, while this show already has outdated Trump and Russian jokes (btw, putting current events aside, did anyone else find the portrayal of the Russian people in this show to be pretty xenophobic?), and I can't imagine them ever making jokes at the expense of Biden or Harris. Finally, this is something I don't think was brought up, but outside of the designs of the returning cast members, the rest of the background and an ensemble cast look like they don't belong in Animaniacs, or any similar show made by Tom Ruegger. They all look like they'd fit better in a modern Ren and Stimpy or any similar show than in a modern Animaniacs. It's like the character designers took the design philosophy they had with all the celebrity caricatures and applied that to every character who already wasn't established. It just feels awkward to look at. Sorry for the long rant, but overall, this reboot is a mess from beginning to its hopefully eventual end. I can this running for about 52, episodes, maybe 65, but that's it. I doubt this will last as long or be as beloved as the original. Such a disappointing take on a beloved 90s show, with a clear disdain for what made the original great in the first place. If this is the best we can get for Animaniacs, then I am definitelly not looking forward to what they'll do with Tiny Toons, especially since they made Babs and Buster Bunny (*NO* relation) into "twin siblings", possibly to ape off Dipper and Mabel from Gravity Falls. P.S. If there was ever a time Hello Nurse and/or Minerva Mink could've been used for a parody, it definitely should've been with the "80s Cats" skit, since either of them would've been a better fit to parody Cheetara than Dot was, who's more suited to a character like WilyKit.
Also, I hope you don't mind me saying this, but I've been planning on making videos in the near future, and I won't beg for you guys to make it happen, but when I do hopefully grow and develop the channel into something which gains enough traction, it'd be a dream to maybe do a crossover with you guys. Again, I'm not gonna force you guys, and I know you guys are currently still considering crossovers with other people, but there's some things which I think would make for good topics. For example, you probably haven't seen it, but I had an idea on doing something similar like "Vs the Network" with Voltron: Legendary Defender. That show started strong, but was plagued by a hurricane of things going wrong; from executive meddling interfering with the show's story, to disagreements between the staff, to some of the staff leaving due to to interference from the executives, to the toys and merchandising being screwed up because they went with Playmates instead of Bandai, and an infamous fandom which outright threatened and blackmailed the showrunners. On top of that, the finale movie got scrapped while still in development, because Dreamworks/Universal made a new deal with Hulu and not Netflix, and they also lost the full rights to Voltron franchise back to World Event Productions. It's a tragedy, if I've ever heard one, and I was there when all of it happened, and know friends who still remember it well. I apologize for this tangent, but I just thought it'd be interesting to share, since Voltron in general has a rocky history as a franchise, and I think going over its history in a video would be interesting, but I understand if you're not interested.
Anti-Russian hate speech and xenophobia is part of the consent manufacturing process for war. It is racism. It is NatSoc propaganda plain and simple. Spielberg is a German name, after all.
"did anyone else find the portrayal of the Russian people in this show to be pretty xenophobic?" Pretty much. But it's not that we're not used to this. But it was a surprise that there was nothing really new - just a lot of old and even outdated cliches.
THEY MADE FUN OF CHEETARA?!?! THE 80;S CHEETARA?! MY FAVORITE CHARACTER GROWING UP?! THE EPITOME OF FEARLESS WARRIOR WOMEN?! CHEETARA IS NOT FANSERVICE, YOU DOLTS!!! THAT WAS THE 90'S ONE! SHE IS SMART, CLEVER, BRAVE, FEARLESS... OH, WINGERT, YOU ARE ON MY LIST NOW!!!
I'm just gonna be blunt here. Animaniacs -2020 is ending. And that's a good thing. They She-Hulked that program. Brought in folks who cared nothing for the source material, (and some probably even hated it), forced a ton of hypocrisy into the mix, and pretty much slammed people they didn't like, without paying equal time to picking on folks from their side, which is something the original did, and did well. The result is a bunch of cheaply animated, fan-hating guff, (apart from bits of Pinky and The Brain, which in itself lost some of its traction). #justsaying.
@@DancesWithFriesians I'm honored. Thank you. Although heads up- ya might have to show folks reviews of She Hulk: Attorney at Law to give them context.
Wakko and Yakko simping in current year : Wrong 😡👎 Dot simping in current year: Right 😀👍 Dot simping in current year with being sexualized and have the adults male characters reciprocate while also being a man hater: 😐😑😃 Right! 👍👍👍👍👍 Hollywood needs to stop having double standards like this.
It really doesn't make sense why all the other characters just randomly come back to life. Maybe if Boo had frozen them in ice or something and the Warners purposely left a fireplace going before they left it'd make more sense, but I guess that would've clased with the general hunter theme of the episode.
Also, as an old head who watched the original show way back when it was on TV, and now has a 15yr old daughter, I have a whole new level of respect for Katie Kaboom. The struggle is real, yall.
8:05 Welcome to the double standard everyone. If a man slaps the behind of a woman in public then he; is arrested for sexual harassment/ statutory r@pe, is forced to register as a violent sex offender, is guilty until proven innocent in the eyes of the public, and even if proven innocent is still on the list forever and seen as guilty no matter what. Adversely, if a woman slaps the behind of a man in public and he doesn't like it; he is mocked and ridiculed by every man and woman within range, seen as lessor for having a standard of human decency, and will forever be treated shamefully just because some woman walked up and harassed him. She on the other hand is seen as a great hero for all of woman kind, and everyone comes to her becking call to see if she is fine after the man confronted her for slapping him.
@Stardian No it's never ok, but while a woman can flash her breast at a group, and nobody runs for the police, a man could never flash his chest at a crowd even at the beach because it is instantly seen as sexual assault. Not because a man exposing his chest at the beach is inherently sexual, but the act of raising his shirt and then lowering it again is suggestive of a sexual act. It's only seen in a negative light when a man does it, otherwise it is accredited as female body pride.
Loved the video! V was really entertaining, and made SUPER valid points.. I remember being super apprehensive about the reboot initially, and what I've seen so far isn't making me anymore hopeful. Too many production companies anymore are only trying to re-capture the magic of old properties, while COMPLETELY ignoring what made them popular in the first place! And they feel as though they can get away with it, because they know they have the existing legacy of the property to fall back on.
Thank you, for telling the truth. I'm so sick and tired of people, that probably never watched the original show, praising the reboot so much. They mostly only do that, because the current writing team panders to their modern taste. And this is the reason, why Animaniacs should never have been rebooted. The old show was about fun, passion, and entertainment. The reboot on the other hand is, like pretty much every other modern cartoon, just a tool so that people can spread out their cynical and nihilistic world view. Heck, the current writers even confirmed, that they hated the old show and that all the old characters were rubbish and lame. This is the reason the episode “Good Warner Hunting” was created because originally they wanted to kill them off for good. But… maybe, that is, what people want these days. A show that openly admits that everything you loved in the past is shit, and you are a stupid person for licking it.
Honestly, that’s when I recognize that people need to start re-watching the show because I watched it while I was growing up and I wasn’t even in the year that it was made. I was around six when I was watching OG and I started watching the reboot in quarantine. I said this is not as bad until I decided to go back and watch the original one and I’m like yeah the new one t-this is awful.
@@nolebooth298 Writters use modern cartoons to vent rather than to write histories, name one that isn't FOX that doesn't include some lame subplot about relationships or drama
The way that Animaniacs does equality is by tearing down LITERALLY EVERYONE. Honestly a great modern episode would be going to a comic-con and instead of making fun of neckbeards and all the male nerd tropes, lets see someone make fun of all the female nerd tropes. Squellers, free hugs signs, cosplayers who have no budget/dont look like their character, etc etc. there's plenty of fun to be had, and honestly you could have it end with the warners also engaging in their interests which show them pretty equally being goofs like Dot chasing after movie stars, Yakko could coopt a whole panel and make it about himself, and wakko could run such chaos on the sales floor or maybe we just give him a modern day energy drink and nuke the whole convention as a joke about just how much crazier food has gotten in the last 40 years.
Wait, I’m confused - I thought it was cool to be a nerd nowadays? Or do you just mean the socially awkward basement-dwellers which people used to think all nerds were like? Because I’m considering making fun of them in this comic I’m working on, though the main character and her friends are more of the “normal” kind of nerds.
The reboot will NOT be the lasting legacy. I had been so excited to show it to my kids, but halfway through the season, I cut it off. I just bought my kids the entire original series on DVD. THAT will be the legacy.
My biggest issue with this reboot is how they chose to discard so many other beoved characters that I'd have loved to see again. I was looking forward it to and I was disappointed.
The Animaniacs reboot was just another run of the mill kids' show with nothing that stuck out or a reason to re-watch it. It might appeal to very young audiences but nothing was there for the original fans or to attract an older audience of cartoon watchers like the 90s version did. Besides being funny, the original Animaniacs was educational and sometimes even had episodes that were a bit more serious. I have no idea why they'd hire writers who didn't even like the original show and were so lacking in talent they couldn't even handle the five characters they did decide to use. I've heard the weak arguments about some of the other characters being outdated to bring bak, but Slappy the Squirrel is timeless. I don't know why they even bothered to have her come back for just at minute at the end of the third season when they weren't a good enough team to come up with new cartoons for her.
I was always a huge fan of Animaniacs, so when the three voice actors of the Warners + pinky & the brain were at a comic con I could attend, I was ecstatic! I meet & greeted each of them and they were all very personable and I had a good quick chat with each. There was a panel one day with all of them together and they CONFIRMED the reboot was happening which the crowd obviously went nuts for. Then one of them happily revealed they would be making fun of president Trump like it was a BRAND NEW CONCEPT, despite Trump jokes being done to death by every late night host at that point. It made me worried that they would put agenda over the story, which from what you've laid out, which seems not to be too far off.
What was most frustrating about the Trump joke is that is was almost as generic as possible; saying that Trump is an orange oaf with small hands checks the boxes for the most standard jokes about him.
@@knightshade2654 And on two occasions they tried to use it as the big, episode-ending punchline when it really just came out of nowhere with little setup.
@@philipkippel3615 Rob has gone that way, judging by some of his social media posts; but how did you figure this out regarding Tress? She's apparently a private person, not to mention she has zero social media presence whatsoever.
I remember trying to watch Animaniacs 2020 but after a couple of episodes of the first season I pretty stopped cause it just wasn’t fun to watch. Also it makes so much sense now that the new show was worked on by a Family guy show runner.
This reboot feels just...bitter about its existence. Like it legitimately doesn't want to exist in this current generation, and it hates all of us for making it happen. All of these modern times jokes it makes feel way more passive-agressive complaints than winking at the audience.
"Actually, I hated the original Animaniacs." "Hmmm... I'm not sure about this one..." "Also I will work for a bag of peanuts." "Yes, you sound like the perfect person to write this new version of the Animaniacs, welcome aboard get to work" Exaggeration for comedic effect is typically considered "funny"
The anime-esque and Thundercats parody designs for Yakko aren't extremely ify because the joke about the genre styles would be a little lost if they didn't make the joke about how both styles tend to make male characters, even ones meant to be teens, weirdly buff (the anime one isn't even weird tbh) HOWEVER--That 80s parody Dot is just objectively fucked. The female Thundercats characters had clothes covering their chests, and its even weirder because her anime parody design has a shirt but the 80s parody design doesn't??? I don't trust like that. Speaking of the art, its one of those "once you notice it you can't unsee it" but a lot of the new character designs clash with the old characters, mainly the new human characters. Like pause at 33:08, none of the human characters mesh with the Warners, look at how much the two types of character designs go against each other; and it makes the show a little ugly to be honest.
anime bit was just pointless in a guns are bad episode, at least stick to pushing a poltical view point. Should of had the episode be A anime villian turns the warner studio into anime so now warner trio have to defeat him in epic anime parady fight to bring back the default animation style.
@@dmcoub78 In the original Tom Rugger would have parodied anime by making the entire episode an anime parody instead of a 2 second bit that made no sense.
I think one of the biggest mistakes was not getting Tom Ruegger involved in some capacity. Not asking him to come back for the revival was criminal. Not even sure why they'd choose to proceed without him. Just ridiculous.
I absolutely appreciate you calling out the people who say that the political humor is fine in the 2020 version only because the 1993 version had it as well, not taking into consideration that it's about HOW you do it. It's like a debate I saw about the newest season of The Boys, how someone pointed out that "it takes shots at both sides", to which there's a reply "Yeah, it shoots at the left with a pellet gun and it shoots at the right with a bazooka."
I mean. In that example that means the writers dislike the right more, and if that offends you they probably don't care. Political commentary doesn't *have* to tackle "both sides" or claim "both sides" are equal, if the writers themselves don't think the groups they're comparing are actually equal. If you disagree with that idea... tough? Political commentary doesn't have to fit your sensibilities. If it did that'd kind of defeat the purpose.
Yeah, cuz people should take writing and story advice from a person who's writing is a like a fat middle school kid whos failing English class 😂😂 you don't state 'tough" as a question of what your trying to say bro, noir not wanting to have a one sideed political jab is being "sensibility"it's called wanting to be fair and unbiased, nothing wrong for wanting especially if the median your consuming is suppose to be entrainment, well maybe except if your one of the weirdos that these hacks are pandering too, than yeah it makes sense why you see no problem and your writing skills as well.
4:42 How would I make those jokes kind of work. Wakko: Oh, I think he meant b- Yakko: (covers Wakko’s mouth.) Ah ah ah! No need for the language! Wakko: (pushes Yakko’s hand off.) Hey! I was gonna say “Bad, mean mutt”! (Unaware Yakko thought he was gonna swear.) What did you think I was gonna say? Yakko: Uh…(whispers to Dot.) Should we…ya know? Dot: Nah, let him stay blissfully unaware. (Second joke.) Wakko: We thought you were in H. E. Double hockey sticks! Yakko: Don’t you mean- (Wakko shoves a bar of soap in his mouth.) Wakko: (upset at Yakko.) Hey, don’t you remember? Swearing is not a nice thing to do!
It sucks so bad I’m actually afraid to watch the *Punky Brewster* revival and I own every episode of the original and the animated version on DVD. It is that bad that it hurts unrelated shows by association.
I feel that this is the fate of all remakes/reboots. Bringing in a new crew to work on it will always make it feel like fanfiction, because no matter how hard they try, they simply don't know what the original crew had in mind when creating the show, even when they bring in key people that did work on the original.
“One time, okay let’s see…one time Randy Beeman saw the new release of Animaniacs on Hulu+, and he was so angry at how bad it was that he cancelled his free trial of the streaming service, bought the classic ‘90s collection DVD box set on Amazon, and just watched that instead from now on. ‘Kay ‘bye!”
The biggest mistake is that they're refusing to listen to us fans about bringing the other characters back! People idiotically claim that the Warners and Pinky and the Brain was enough but it isn't! Removing from a ensemble cast is a horrid idea in the first place! Slappy & Skippy, Minerva Mink, Mindy & Buttons, the Goodfeathers Rita & Runt, the Hip Hippos, Katie Ka-Boom, and the others were all fun, rememberable and sometimes better than the Warners or Pinky and the Brain. There are ideas how the reboot can use them now and still have the comical charm they had in the 90s! Season 3 or seasons after that, please bring the other Animaniacs back!
Shilling for Disney is bad enough. On some level, you expect that from them because it’s built into their business model, but seeing grown men and women shilling for Warner Brothers, in the same fashion is arguably even more pathetic when they deserve it just as little, if not less.
have frank welker and kareem abdul jabbar had their picture taken despite welker voicing more cats and dogs than anybody from the nba including the late kobe bryant?
I had no interest in seeing this _skinsuit-wearing creature of a TV show_ when it was announced, but it's nice to hear an opinion from another fan. Things like this make me think of so many questions. 1. Who is this for? It is for 20-somethings who grew up with the 1993 show with the humour "aged up" with them? Or is it for kids of today because execs think they have no standards? Which is quite the opposite, in my experience. 2. Why do WB keep putting people in charge of their legacy properties that clearly loathe/lack an understanding of said properties?, e.g. _DC Comics, Looney Tunes_ and _Animaniacs._ 3. _"Ha ha, we're irrelevant!"_ is not a substantial joke. It was funny when _The Muppets_ did it in 2011, but that worked for the story, 'cos they're classic underdogs. The Warners... aren't. Also, the _"franchise rising from the grave"_ gag is not only over-used, but it's also a visual conjured by lazy creators trying to _nudge nudge, wink wink_ "hey, we're totally in on the gag that this is old and probably best left alone sometimes dead is better I read Pet Semetary too LOL!" Ahem... sorry. I'm going to continue ignoring all this trash. I barely even remembered this was a thing until this video came up.
Something I can see more clearly in a recap like this is that the revival's animation style and general humor is trying to be more like John Kricfalusi's "Ren and Stimpy". That's why there are so many gross-out closeups, over-exemplified musculature, and a ban on Yakko singing. This show wasn't made by Animaniacs fans, it was made by Ren and Stimpy fans.
Well it’s been a couple years, let’s see how the Animaniacs reboot is being discussed online today. Crickets chirping. Yeah, that’s what I thought. The fact is that this revival was always destined to fail. It’s like when a popular local restaurant reopens after a while with a completely new staff. Not only are there different cooks in the kitchen now, but they do not understand what made the dishes made by the previous chefs so great. So the new chefs go ahead and make their best imitation of the old dishes, except they make one fatal flaw. They made the food the way THEY want as opposed to what customers actually like. Sure, the re-opened restaurant might draw in an initial crowd made up of those who want to re-experience the old feeling of eating at that particular restaurant. The customers might even say that they like the food on opening night. But as time goes on and the nostalgia goggles and recency bias fades, they will come to the realization that the new food is a pale imitation of what came before. That is what I think of the Animaniacs reboot. It had a few things going for it but without a crew of people that actually know about and respect what came before, all it is a pale imitation with a hollowed out heart. I remember when promotions for the reboot were coming out on social media feeds and the big thing they emphasized was Steven Spielberg’s involvement. Yeah, that’s real great and all, but what I think people forget is that Spielberg’s involvement with Animaniacs was as an executive producer. It might say Steven Spielberg presents on the logo but it really was Ruegger and Stoner’s show. That’s not even mentioning the efforts of countless other writers who worked on the show. This rebooted show honestly hurts as a fan of the Animaniacs because this reboot will probably be the last time we’ll get Rob Paulsen, Jess Harnell, and Tress MacNeille voicing the warner siblings in an official capacity. If they do revive the show again after this, I have a feeling that they are going to use the doubles from some of the Warner songs in early season 1. Gabriel Mann, Brock Baker, and Missi Hale. The fact that most people did not seem to notice that they were singing doubles for reboot it and that cutesy techno song I can’t remember the name of goes to show how good of a job they did. More detailed opinions of aspects of the reboot I did not like. The episodes are boring and a chore to sit through because the reboot opts more for dialogue based humor. Making the Warners feel very stale in a way that feels like it was a cost cutting measure. Like how the Warners rarely squash, stretch, or go off model. Making their updated character models look stiff and lifeless. That three seconds of Yakko amakko or whatever the Duck Amuck parody episode was called where the artists reverts Yakko to his original 1993 appearance, that three second joke has more personality than a majority of the reboot animation. Which is a shame because the new animators have serious potential, they just don’t have any great material to work with. Where did movie, show, or genre parodies go? I remember an episode that was sort of a Murder on the Orient Express parody but the episode never fully commits to it. Instead we get safe scenarios where the Warners are either the butt of jokes, (Usually to the extent of, “And we thought we were the crazy ones, but now the world is more insane than us!) or they have no plot whatsoever. In other words, the reboot Warners just sort of “do” things and stuff happens for no real rhyme or reason. The world is normal but the Warners are Zany. If you end up with the inverse, you are not writing Animaniacs. You are writing PG Family Guy. Which gives PG Family Guy (Back at the Barnyard) a bad name. The reboot has the inverse (World crazy, Warners not.) scenario happen a majority of the time. That’s even if the episode is lucky enough to have any plot at all. Sure, the Warners might be placed under a specific scenario or location for an episode, but the actual execution makes it feel like the script was ripped out from a cynical adult’s Mad Libs book. That is my other big problem with the Animaniacs reboot. It can get a little too cynical and mean spirited at points. The Warner siblings are zany agents of chaos but they are not heartless beings. In the titular Bugs Bunny fashion, they really only go after those who have either wronged them or really have it coming. It’s something that can be easy to forget but the Warners are still children at heart. As well as body. ESPECIALLY BODY! I’m looking at you weird anime sequence animator! Anyway, the point is that the Warner siblings had enough depth and nuance to them that you could actually relate to them and their family dynamic. I honestly cannot relate to any of the Warners in the reboot. Much less buy into the idea that they are siblings. THAT’S IT! The reboot Warners feel like hollow shells of their counterparts because they rarely, if ever, show genuine emotion. The closest I think the reboot gets is them wanting to help a “Sick” Scratchinsniff but they never go all the way. You would think that they would have a bigger reaction to seeing the closest thing they had to a father figure after almost thirty years. Same with that hunter episode. The Warners barely have a reaction to their friends and co-stars being seemingly murdered by Chicken Boo of all characters. Who finally manages to wear a proper human disguise. Which is kind of funny until you realize that it completely ruins the joke behind the Chicken Boo character. Not a particularly smart and well thought out joke, but a routine formula nonetheless. I am just now realizing that they had a perfect opportunity to do an Invasion of the Body Snatchers parody with a bunch of Chicken Boo like characters masquerading as various human beings. Which could also double as a parody of more modern media like the popular multiplayer game Among Us. There are so many things to make fun of, how did this writing crew come up with the bare minimum? If they even gave that. That is the third and final issue I have with the Animaniacs reboot. It feels like a big bowl of underbaked squandered potential. Let’s be honest, no one is going to remember this show in T-minus ten years. In fact, I think most people already forgot it.
I feel like some of the writers vaguely remembered watching Ren and Stimpy as kids, and just thought to themselves "this is what people liked in the 90s, right?"
I knew the moment it was announced that it couldn't live up to the original and that they were going to flat out ruin Dot and remove Hello Nurse. Her taking over Yakko's place was also not that surprising. Too many of the screechy "woke" types have infected the creative space.
it's the only way for them to get their message out because no one wants to watch some new IP that's just woke this and woke that. The way they get it out there is get established in a company and push some PSA or new product with it, or they reboot something and push it and get their funding through the name which they drag through the mud
I was happy when I heard Animatics coming back I was happy! But got concern when they weren’t bringing back the original crew and characters. Heck WB literally didn’t inform them when they made the deal to bring the show back. I haven’t even showed yet and I might not now. Seeing you point this out shows how much they butchered the Warner siblings. I knew something was off. And now I’m really worried about the Tiny Toons reboot especially when I heard they’re making Buster and Babs Bunny as siblings instead of friends/couple with the same last name. I hate this current social climate. But, the originals still exist and I will forever treasure and rewatch it until the end of time.
They wanted to ignore it and just did it because Steven wanted it back. Those execs at WB were fearful of anything that wasn't #1 in their company so much so that they pushed everything else to the back. This series in itself was pretty much hidden only used for reruns for a few years for the Hub during last decade. Pinky and the Brain had their respect because people would acknowledge them due to their routine and being a great duo. As for the Warners they looked down upon them because to them they are easily forgotten and don't do anything they couldn't do in Looney Tunes. Which is only one reason.
Honestly, I stopped watching after Bun Control. The show wasn't great up to that point (Trump is bad, amirite?), but that """metaphor""" was genuinely the worst I've ever seen. The point of metaphor or analogy is made by the accuracy of the comparison. Bunnies overpopulating is a nonsensical comparison. The show seemed more interested in pushing 2015 far-left politics, which was, and still is, the mirrored reflection of 90's conservatism that the original show laughed in the face of.
I couldn't agree more with 90% of this video. Animaniacs 2020 is the definition of hit or miss. The ones that hit are REALLY good while the ones that miss fall incredibly flat. And sadly a lot of it comes from the Warners. Most of the Pinky and the Brain stuff is pretty good. Bun Control is one of the worst episodes of a TV show I've ever seen, period. It's not even subtle about its message. Dot is a Mary Sue, and the political humor is so one sided you can clearly tell the political affiliation of the writers and just comes off as cringe.
0:50 Wait, really, Undertale has the same humor as Animaniacs? Did Toby Fox cited Animaniacs somewhere as an inspiration, because this claim feels like a stretch
Back when it was first announced that Animaniacs was being revived, I was really excited. I really wanted to see the show tackle pop culture icons like Harry Potter and My Little Pony. IMHO, I find the idea of the Warners attending Hogwarts or whatever being pretty funny. But this... what the hell did they do to these characters, Dot especially? And why do companies keep on putting people who hate the original show or movie in charge of these reboots? Also, does the reboot not do fun celebrity parodies like the OG show did?
Honestly even if the original Dot was cute and nothing else I would rather have a boring Dot than a toxic feminist Dot. Reboot Dot would 110% victim blame cinderella for not being enough of a “strong independent woman”
The final episodes came out a time ago, and I will say that you are probably better off without seeing the finale ... The Warner siblings get hit by a sudden meteor, ending the series. That's it, that's the ending ...
Thank you for distilling all of my negative reactions against 2020. I bailed much quicker than you because I could smell what these people were cooking. I cannot think of a point that you missed and you stated them so clearly I don't even feel the urge to add to it, Nice work.
The thing that really caught me off guard with the reboot the Warners is that they used to be my favorite skits in (og Animaniacs) . But when, watching the reboot, I was looking forward to the pinky and the brain episodes much more than the Zany kids I love so much. And I guess that was because it felt like something was missing. That wasn’t the same characters .
Well this is a first on Media Mementos. Rather than hearing Trevor or Billy talk about something, we have someone else doing it throughout the whole video. I think I remember Billy mentioning this editor in one of the livestreams he did.
The biggest mistake was bringing "Animaniacs" back at all, sullying fond memories of the original (despite its humor being largely based on sexual harassment: "Hello, nurse!"). People can't resist rebooting '90s shows, though, because let's face it: WE ALL MISS THE '90s! Especially the early-to-mid '90s when Princess Di and the World Trade Center seemed indestructible, people controlled the internet and not the other way around, and "Animaniacs" was fresh and funny.
You know people will be saying the same thing about the 2020s in 30 years’ time, right? Some disastrous event will happen circa 2034 that will shake up the world, and we’ll be looking back like, “Ah, the good old days, when a dainty little virus and a silly cartoon reboot were terrorising life as we knew it.”
I'd say that they had a lot more freedom back in the day, and now that society is a lot more restrictive and thin skinned, it's a lot harder to revive this Chaotic masterpiece. And they even address that there's a lot less characters in this reboot.
Too Political No Goodfeathers and others Isn't animated like a Warner Bros show. Doesn't have the same art style or animation style. Feels like an internet parody. Only one joke landed. That was the "Leroy Jenkins" joke. Also come on Dot HAS to be a different actress.
"Too Political" Says the guy with "Support LGBTQ+ Rights" in his profile name. Yeah. Don't complain about politics in media when you yourself are a supporter of a Far-Left Political Cult that gets away with the awful things they do through being "stunning and brave".
20:48 From now on, I would like to use that clip whenever there's a scene that's _supposed_ to be funny but instead comes off as too gross or cursed (heck, that screenshot looks like something out of Flapjack which is very fitting for that clip).
You should bring V back for the Tiny Toons reboot as it is going to suffer the same fate that the Animaniacs reboot did. They wouldn't let Tom Ruger be a part of it they're not bringing back certain characters and they're not even bothering to hire the original voice actors back. Thankfully the original versions of the shows still exist on DVD. I don't know if anyone else notice but they took off Animaniacs 93, Tiny Toons, and Pinky and the Brain, off of Hulu not that long after the reboot came. It's obvious they took those down so you would have no choice but to watch this poor inferior excuse.
I guess it's time to sail the seven seas when it comes out. This kind of disrespect is what kills my interest in the show. The Tom Ruegger disrespect is just pure rancid.
Yeah that makes too much sense
I thought that’s what it was supposed to be
Wait, wait, wait, wait! Are you saying the a-hole who wrote that ONE infamous Family Guy episode that we don't talk about took part of this?!
...that would explain a lot. 😑
Clearly somebody lit a cigarette near a gas leak.
@@thesupershinymegagengar2034 just the one?
1. 90% of the cast is missing.
2. Too much meta humor ("Hey look at us! We're doing a reboot!")
3. Political jokes are completely one-sided.
4. What did they do to Dot?
2 and 3.....apply to the original show...
Why are repubs always so damn whiny?
@@scottedge4388Okay but-- and I hate to break it to you, even if those statements are over doned at this point, Donald Trump is indeed "bad" and so is Carl Tucker and deverses to be ridiculed for everything they do.
Hard to be centrist about it when those people being mocked have ruined lives, spread hate mongering lies, or even been responsible for the deaths of many.
One thing I will say is that Tom Rugger actually gave ideas on what he would have done if he was given some creative input which are actually better then the reboot's ideas
First instead of the Warners not exsiting for 20 years only to be reanimated Rugger instead said that he would have had a reveal where the Warners where the ones controlling the internet from inside the Warner Tower for 20 years. And this makes a lot of sense and shows off the Warners personalities the best
Another idea was to have Hello Nurse be the new CEO instead of that genric lady in the actual show and this also makes sense consdering how Hello Nurse was portrayed to be smart (it's shown the best in Wakko's Wish)
And a final change was to bring back Slappy Squirel and have them be aged up where Skippy would be a adult still living with Slappy with Slappy desperately trying to get him to move out.
Once again a really funny concept which feels like something that the orignal show would do
But nah let's bring the Family Guy writers to handle this show not the orignal creator because we know that Family Guy has had some good writing/humor in the last 30 years
He's name is Skippy
@@eleboyele1302 i had a thought it was a skippy but I second guessed myself and decided not to put anything
What about the most important part... would "Pinky, Elmyra & the Brain" still be canon?
The funny thing is that Tiny Toons demolished Bart Simpson in some episodes.
25:11 To be fair, Tress is 71. So unless she was told to or decided to make Dot's voice deeper, it's because she's getting old
They could at least put in the effort to speed up the recordings of Tress McNeil to simulate a higher pitch. Which is common and inexpensive in audio recording.
@@pepperedash4424 That's a fair point.
It's heartbreaking. She used to have such a massive range. Now she can only do her normal voice.
It reminds me of Mel Blanc in the 70s and 80s. You know, when the Looney Tunes sounded like when they were going through puberty.
@@dannypalin9583 Maybe playing a shit ton of Futurama and The Simpsons characters wore her voice out. Unfortunately not everyone can be Mel Blanc
*Hocus Pocus 2,* consider this a warning.
Meanwhile, I STILL take every opportunity I can find to hype up Ducktales 2017, including bringing it up unprompted when people are talking about other shows! Goes to show the difference between a good reboot and a bad one...
THIS so much. Everyone was too excited and then... nothing.
I remember watching the whole first season of the reboot and really liking most of it at the time. Then the second season came out and... I just didn't feel like continuing it. I think I finally realized, it's just _not_ what the original was.
Recency bias can be just as bad or worse than nostalgia goggles.
@@robbiewalker2831 important thing is, PINKY sees it as benevolence. XD
I want a parody of dot in children of the corn
Part of me thinks they just wanted to make a "Pinky and the Brain" reboot, but reluctantly tacked on the Warners and gave them top billing for a quicker buck. The sharp increase in adult cynicism across the board makes so much more sense for the two lab mice than it does for the three puppy children.
Dude that's exactly how I felt watching it! I had fun with some of the Warner's segments, but the rest of the show feels half baked and lacking in comparison.
What makes me feel sad is that when you hear the VAs for the Warners, you can tell that Paulsen, Harnell and MacNielle have gotten older.
@@dannypalin9583 they pitched their voices in the og btw
Wait they’re dogs?
Yeah, the Pinky and the Brain episodes are pretty good, as well as the other shorts, I think that the main show is filler.
It did those elements better because of your nostalgia bias

10:06 : "It's surprisingly mean-spirited."
That's how I summed up the entire show after forcing myself through half of season 1 before giving up.
To be honest, I hated the hip hippos. Good as being part of a Warner skit, but total raw sewage for having their own.

Well, that's just Hollywood's stupid standards with showbiz nowadays.
No wonder I couldn't stand that "Reboot It!" song from the reboot.
They absolutely don't care if they hate the original show or not but they still gotta reboot it somehow! 🤪

That's exactly what I was thinking!
"Hello, I like money."
"And what inspired you to reboot an old show that you despised?"
"Money."
"Goodnight Everybody" was swiped from comedian David Letterman whenever something slightly off-color was mentioned on his old late night TV show.
I was 1 when it debuted 🥺💖

He felt the reboot didn't have the magic of the Original, and it has nothing that made the Original series great, and that it ruined the Warners.
@@miragenights801 But they did, according to both Sherri Stoner and Tom.
@@BlythePennyBicycle21 that's a really bad move
I agree wholeheartedly. I had watched the first episode of the reboot and I was done. It wasn't funny, smart or entertaining. It's an unenjoyable mess.
Ah, yes, it’s the Powerpuff Girls 2016 situation all over again.
@@TF2Fan101 At least this one doesn't have an open pedophile as a writer.
I'm glad you went into detail about how Dot's the only Warner who weaponizes cuteness. Sure, all the Warner's are cute in their own ways (something I've heard in order to "combat" the change to wit), but weaponizing it was Dot's main thing before, as you said, she drops the facade
Dot was funny in the original.
Pretty hypocritical for poking fun of Hilary, but suddenly praising her to kingdom come.
Two more points: 1) no wonder slappy was not in this show. She would be the exact character to point all these flaws and bs out
2) the skit with the girl and the alien is just a terrible boring version of pinky elmire and the brain
I didn’t think they could do worse than something that was the result of network interference by a network that no longer exists. But I was wrong.
Also, you’ve clearly never watched “Lisa vs. Malibu Stacy”, where Lisa is basically Anita Sarkeesian.
You could actually portray the attitudes of gun owners and their defences instead of just painting them as irresponsible breeders (even if the Warners calling them out would be kinda hypocritical knowing their slapstick ways), and the anime scene could've ended with the Warners calling upon all the limbless bears the salesman stole the paws from
That sounds both clever and hilarious. Good show.
Not bad.
Instead we get an skit that understands nothing of either side of the argument.

Win him over with abrasive rude comments?
You got to be displacing your own anger and self-loathing on him because you're in the same boat I guess. the only thing I have to thank the 2020 reboot for is getting me into the original 1994 series 😐
That's the one thing that stood out to me in this reboot. Everyone got older.
Tress just sounds exhausted now.
Bitter Dot.
It's the same problem the Simpsons characters have where the voice actors are starting to lose their voice. I probably would have gotten a sound alike as it's no better than the original voice at this point.
Not to mention that Rob Paulsen recently battled throat cancer.
@@robertorick6383 yeah I don’t that is ignored, I hope he is doing better now. Not to mention I am not sure if he can sing like he used to because of that, and they almost sound exhausted

i found myself enjoying the pinky and the brain segments much more than the warners... and i wasn't sure what to make of the writing for the sibs, but i think you've hit the nail right on the head for how they handled those segments
Yeah the new Beavis and Butthead episodes are kinda lame compared to the original
I'm pretty sure the other Beavis and Butthead characters will appear at some point. I mean they did show up in the new Movie

That's how I felt returning to sharp my writing and drawing skills after hearing about Borba's Awful Zootopia Comics (If you haven't heard about them, consider yourself lucky)
Another example for it is Raya and the last dragon.
(it feels very exhausting after a while)
Yes. Sad to say, fan fiction is often the best revenge.
Good luck.
Spite is one helluva drug.
It's also how snoot game got made, so there's precedent to it being capable of making good things
There were subtle hints of this in the original 90's cartoon, but this version of it feels like it was made by people who are angry at alpha males.

In fairness, Trump can't take a joke at his expense without claiming it's a personal attack on him. And he's been that way his entire fucking life.
If Hillary Colton was president instead the reboot definitely would have been a lot more nicer to her.

Your passion for dots character is fantastic and i never analysed her that way
but i have to agree to the commment above. You couldve given some examples of these "shallow cartton characters" oh they exist, i just dont like the idea of calling cartoon characters cold and thoughtless in general. (I just go case by case personally)
some people consider childrens cartoons at least, more complex and compassionate with their characters such as the aforementioed owl house and molly mcgee, ducktales,.
Another thing about the animation is that none of the characters have shadows.
"did anyone else find the portrayal of the Russian people in this show to be pretty xenophobic?"
Pretty much.

-over the top gross out
-sexualized minor.
...guys, I think John K was involved here.
Massively underrated comment.
From now on, anytime I see another bad reboot or adaptation, I'm going to use "They She-Hulked it" as a verb to describe it. 😄
@@DancesWithFriesians I'm honored. Thank you. Although heads up- ya might have to show folks reviews of She Hulk: Attorney at Law to give them context.
Wakko and Yakko simping in current year : Wrong 😡👎
Dot simping in current year: Right 😀👍
Dot simping in current year with being sexualized and have the adults male characters reciprocate while also being a man hater: 😐😑😃 Right! 👍👍👍👍👍
Hollywood needs to stop having double standards like this.
It really doesn't make sense why all the other characters just randomly come back to life. Maybe if Boo had frozen them in ice or something and the Warners purposely left a fireplace going before they left it'd make more sense, but I guess that would've clased with the general hunter theme of the episode.
None of them were dead, it seems like Chicken Boo cut their heads and mounted them on the wall, but they were in fact alive behind the wall.
Also, as an old head who watched the original show way back when it was on TV, and now has a 15yr old daughter, I have a whole new level of respect for Katie Kaboom. The struggle is real, yall.
I have two sisters. I know.
@@Attmay Hey, sometimes we can;t help it! Do you think YOU can handle a period once a month with the cramps and sleepless nights that come with it?
Litterally the same thing with the face. How about no one slaps anyone (unless you are forced to)?
“Every other modern cartoon is just a tool people use to spread their cynical and nilistic worldview”
Lol what
It doesn't make a person stupid for liking it.
L
Your idea sounds pretty dang funny.
I would love to hear more of V’s thoughts! There’s just as much passion and clarity as the rest of the crew.
It's just too bad that Rob Paulsen and Tress MacNeille have become woke themselves in recent years. :(
@@philipkippel3615 Rob has gone that way, judging by some of his social media posts; but how did you figure this out regarding Tress? She's apparently a private person, not to mention she has zero social media presence whatsoever.
I bet it was Rob who said that, he's made his opinions pretty clear on Twitter.
I remember trying to watch Animaniacs 2020 but after a couple of episodes of the first season I pretty stopped cause it just wasn’t fun to watch.
Also it makes so much sense now that the new show was worked on by a Family guy show runner.
Woke misogyny is real and this is it.
This reboot feels just...bitter about its existence. Like it legitimately doesn't want to exist in this current generation, and it hates all of us for making it happen. All of these modern times jokes it makes feel way more passive-agressive complaints than winking at the audience.
They’ve literally turned it into a “hey you kids, get off my lawn“ show.
"Actually, I hated the original Animaniacs."
"Hmmm... I'm not sure about this one..."
"Also I will work for a bag of peanuts."
"Yes, you sound like the perfect person to write this new version of the Animaniacs, welcome aboard get to work"
Exaggeration for comedic effect is typically considered "funny"
@blockyhedz completely disrespectful. To not even reach out to the original creator is just crazy.
I'm going to use that.

Yakko: Don’t you mean- (Wakko shoves a bar of soap in his mouth.)
Wakko: (upset at Yakko.) Hey, don’t you remember? Swearing is not a nice thing to do!
In all personal opinion, I like the old school, cel shaded, hand drawn animation of the show.
This reboot was a mistake. You’ve summed up my thoughts on it perfectly. I hope you guys bring her back on to narrate, I love her voice.
I disagree, you wouldn’t say something like the MCU is like fan fiction of the original comics.
Whelp - there goes my plans to reboot _The Buzz on Maggie_ .
@@shroomer8294 ehhh
The second I heard the lyrics of Animaniacs in that remake.... I knew it was over.
_DC Comics, Looney Tunes_ and _Animaniacs._
Which is disturbingly ironic given one of John's victimized pupil Katie Rice animated on the show...
Anyone who thinks that 90s Dot's entire shtick was being cute and innocent has never seen the fingerprints moment from the original show.
Well, I have seen the "Finger Prince/Fingerprince" and she is still cute and innocent (appearing), but she was always sly.
The show writers all worked on Family Guy? That explains everything.
To be fair, the "assistant editor" V should completely take over the channel, or start her own. Amazing video essay.
"The folks behind the reboot didn't like the original."
Ah, so basically "ThunderCats Roar."
I can't believe how much they nerfed the Warner Bros, it's PAIN!
Serves the studio right for giving work to Kirk fucking Cameron, Candace fucking Cameron, and Jennifer fucking Aniston
@@Attmay What's wrong with Candace Cameron?!
The voices sound weird because they aren't properly pitched. It doesn't help considering how old the voice actors are
I always had a feeling there was something off about the 2020 show but now this video confirms it
What I'm happy about with the original 1993 Animaniacs is that it went to 99 episodes with a movie to make it 💯
I was happy when I heard Animatics coming back I was happy!
Vertically Impaired Pre-Adults, that's amazing. I always just called kids vertically challenged but that's SO much better.
Wait till you see the Tiny Toons revival. I get the feeling it'll make the Animaniacs revival look like a classic.
I think that one will be like 10 times worse
Reboot Dot would 110% victim blame cinderella for not being enough of a “strong independent woman”
no she wouldnt??
@@alterednaya I'm so glad it got cancelled, it's like watching a soldier trying to defend a country that doesn't exist anymore.
The final episodes came out a time ago, and I will say that you are probably better off without seeing the finale ...
The Warner siblings get hit by a sudden meteor, ending the series.
That's it, that's the ending ...
Good.
You are also one of the first people here to comment this update.
Im glad you pointed out the political thing because that really bothered me
Thank you for distilling all of my negative reactions against 2020.
I miss Trevor tbh
The biggest mistake was bringing "Animaniacs" back at all, sullying fond memories of the original (despite its humor being largely based on sexual harassment: "Hello, nurse!"). People can't resist rebooting '90s shows, though, because let's face it: WE ALL MISS THE '90s! Especially the early-to-mid '90s when Princess Di and the World Trade Center seemed indestructible, people controlled the internet and not the other way around, and "Animaniacs" was fresh and funny.
The pre-F(r)iends 90s were something to recall.
Too Political
No Goodfeathers and others
Isn't animated like a Warner Bros show. Doesn't have the same art style or animation style. Feels like an internet parody.
Only one joke landed. That was the "Leroy Jenkins" joke.
Also come on Dot HAS to be a different actress.
"Too Political"
Says the guy with "Support LGBTQ+ Rights" in his profile name. Yeah. Don't complain about politics in media when you yourself are a supporter of a Far-Left Political Cult that gets away with the awful things they do through being "stunning and brave".
Still Tress, but yeah, unfortunately because of age, her Dot voice is deeper now, same with Rob as Yakko.
@@princesspeachfan100 Yakko still sounds like himself though. Dot sounds like a completely different person.
@@SpiralPoli Well, Rob’s Yakko is a bit different too though, but they all are because of age. XD
Tom Ruegger recently shared this video! Excellent work.
