To clarify, this was in production before Quiet on Set was released. If you’re wondering if I’ll cover that someday, the answer is probably not. Too many people have spoken about the issues already. Anything I’d make would just be echoing what everyone else says. I can’t add anything new to the discussion. Anyways, thanks for watching!

I really don’t think Nickelodeon will ever learn at this point, especially given that _SpongeBob SquarePants_ and _The Loud House_ are still going on. That being said, I actually did grow up with NickToons Network back in the day when it was still around.
Edit: I love the splat effect at 0:37 btw.

My thoughts exactly. Also, given that Nickelodeon has made spin-offs to SpongeBob SquarePants, Nickelodeon is never going to let SpongeBob go.
It’s near equivalent to SEGA making Sonic Boom as a spin-off to Sonic the Hedgehog. However, unlike Nickelodeon, SEGA realized that Sonic Boom was doomed to fail. So, they turned around and made games for the main Sonic the Hedgehog franchise: such as Sonic Forces.

That's because Spongebob Squarepants isn't just "a show." That's like saying Spiderman is just a comic book. Spongebob is an IP. It spans multiple shows, movies, toys, books, games, apparel, etc. And that'd where Nick makes it money. From the merchandising, not the show itself. And that's the case with all cartoons. The shows themselves don't bring in nearly as much money as you would think. It's the merchandise that makes franchises like Spongebob, Dora, Paw Patrol, Simpsons bring home the bacon, and generate over a billion dollars in revenue every year.

The Nick brand was so strong back then, that'd all the needed. One of my biggest criticisms about the Nick brand today (besides the atrocious logo design change, thats my biggest criticism by far), is that they let their brand become so weak. You can't buy a piece of Nick merch without it being slapped with characters from all their past nicktoons on it. And it's just awful. They never, ever did that in the 90s. But that's what happens when they decided to ruin their own logo, and destroy their brand with an awful logo.

They said to hell with brand identity.

The Edgar and Ellen book series is actually a LOT darker than the show will tell you. Their lack of parents is clearly addressed, they get evicted from their home, Pet falls deathly ill, and the twins themselves face death multiple times. Such a shame that the books never got their conclusion due to the death of the author.

Granted, that was right around the same time the pilot premiered on Nicktoons, so I don't know if it fits the same pattern ("born on Nicktoons, transplanted to Nickelodeon and quickly canned"), but I figured it'd be a fun little factoid to include.

I was hoping you'd talk about Edgar and Ellen, and you didn't disappoint. That show was very unique and intriguing; it wasn't innovative nor particularly funny, but it was intriguing. Love the twins as well as Pet and Heimmertz. I was also an avid visitor to the IP's own website (it's been defunct for decades now, though you can still find it through thewaybackmachine). But what kept the show popular was the book series the show was based on. I read all of the books and even bought all of the ones in the Nodyssey arc. It's a shame that the books never got to continue. Its very strange that what partly killed the series was copyright concerns; not sure how that's possible.

Nickelodeon is quite a network where they only care about SpongeBob SquarePants, and even The Loud House; as well as Rugrats and The Fairly OddParents. Other shows that don’t get a fair shot were thrown out the window, it’s like they’ll never be good enough for the network itself. What would it be like if Nickelodeon, or any network in general, were more fair to their shows and treat them with equal respect?
As for my favorite Nicktoons Network originals, that would be both Kappa Mikey and Making Fiends. The latter is the show, I believe, was mistreated the most by the network.

In my opinion Making Fiends now has some company, maybe even competition, in terms of “most mistreated Nick show.” And that company is called Zokie of Planet Ruby.
The show was green lit in 2021, only for Nick to sit on it for nearly three years before being dumped on Prime Video with absolutely *nothing* in terms of promotion, not even an announcement. Just screw you and, by the way, screw you! Time to write you off!

    1. Wolverine and X-Men (alongside Ironman: Armored Adventures and The Spectacular Spider-Man, the second of which not airing on Nicktoons, but on parent channel The CW) was canned not because of Nickelodeon. Right after the conclusion of the first season, Marvel got bought by Disney. One thing to keep in mind is that this show was made by Marvel Animation, with no direct production involvement from Fox, but with close-involvement in order to cross-promote the franchise on every media (in this case, with X-Men Origins: Wolverine, both the horrid movie and Raven’s amazing game). When Disney bought Marvel, although having to continue to cooperate with both Paramount and Viacom until the end of MCU’s phase 1, the ultimately gave up on the ideia to bring 20th Century Fox (who owned the rights for the X-men, Fantastic Four and Daredevil titles), Columbia (who owned the rights for Spider-Man and Punisher titles) and Universal (who owned the rights for Hulk titles) to cooperate with their shared universe initiative, and got so far as to unpromote movies and characters altogether. And Wolverine and the X-Men was caught in such conflict, due to the series pushing really hard toward the public who watched the 20th Century Fox’s made X-Men movies (as did The Spectacular Spider-Man and the canned Daredevil related cartoon)

This network was, and is, boring. It wasn't Nick. There no reason to watch it. There was nothing special about the network, and barely anybody had it. All the network did was just play shows. There was no pizzazz. There was no Slime Time Live, or U-Pick Live to keep kids glued. Back in those days, you couldn't pry me away from my tv, when slime time was on. Nicktoons also came out during the same time DVD was at it's height. Particularly TV shows on DVD. So there was no need to watch reruns of these shows, when you could watch them on DVD. And netflix soon started going the streaming route. And before they took all of their content off netflix and put it on paramount, netflix had all of these shows.
