You didn't have to speak so mellowly, light so beautifully, edit so cleanly, be so thorough, add ambient music, add it such good example shots...but I'm glad you did
Firstly, great review! I just bought an X-T30ii with this lens included... seems I made the right choice vs the XC16-45 alternative! can't wait to start using it
This is an excellent lens for its price point (if you've bought it as part of a 'kit lens' bundle). I got it bundled with my X-T20 all those years ago and have never felt the urge to need to buy another lens within that focal range for general photography (street/ urban/ travel). I'd be very happy to just have the XF 18-55 paired with an ultra-wide like the Sigma 10-18 or a Laowa 9mm Zero-D for travel. The OIS built-in on this is really amazing; I normally use an adapted Flektogon 35/ 2.4 on my X-T20 and had swapped back to the 18-55 earlier today to teach my wife the basics (so she'd not have to care about MF). I totally forgot that this lens had OIS and was wondering why we were going down to 1/10 SS without any shake (trying to teach her about shutter speeds and priority). That was a facepalm moment. Optically, this lens is most excellent by kit lens standards but I find that the sharpness and lack of LOCA also detracts from the 'old film' look I prefer - hence, I usually prefer having the Flektogon on the body if I can.
It's great to hear about your positive experience with the XF 18-55mm lens, especially as a versatile option for general photography like street, urban, and travel. It's a testament to the lens' quality that it's remained a staple in your kit since your X-T20 days. The built-in OIS indeed is a standout feature, as you amusingly discovered while teaching your wife. It's interesting how you balance the sharpness and modern optical qualities of the XF 18-55 with the vintage 'film look' of the Flektogon 35/2.4 for different aesthetic preferences. Your approach highlights the fun and creativity in photography, experimenting with various lenses to achieve desired effects. Keep enjoying the journey through your lenses! 📷
For the money, this lens is amazing. DPReview TV compared it to the Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 and it performed extremely well. I own a Japan-made copy and use it on an X-T2 and an X-T5. Highly recommended, especially for travel.
If they never called this a kit lens and priced it higher, it’d probably be coveted by pros. Fuji has made pro lenses for years in the tv broadcast world and never really made them for the masses, like Canon trying sell Rebels with a kit lens in Costcos across the country. So that’s why this lens is so well made.
Probably one of my all time favourite lenses..... lives on my XT1 (as prefer the older 16mp sensor) and has produced some of my favourite images to date
I own the Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-F4 for my Nikon D5500. You can get the same lens for Canon DSLR mounts. I bought my Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-F4 from MPB for 145 UK pounds
is there any major difference between the made in Japan one that you could ascertain, id be curious to see if manufacturing differences effect overall performance.
@@FlatLanderOptical i honestly dont think so. The lens is crazy sharp and the ois works better than i remember. I have had the 18-55 a few times. It really is a perfect travel lens.
Its a very good combo, corporate sharp with excellent stabilization, its for those gigs where its fast, handheld but you need somewhat long lasting footage to fill up the frame. however its also worth looking at that new tamron 18 70 2.8 as that seems to have everything this one doesnt.

Good choice!
This video is exceptional, thanks for such a professional review. Will try this lens soon with my fuji xt-5.
Have fun!

Great review. I was wondering how the 18mm on this lens compares to the 18mm f2, can’t find any videos on that.
Great video and awesome new channel.
-new fan/sub
On e-bay right now these are readily available fron US $300-350. The new 16-50 must have a lot of these being traded in.
Thank you
Nice one. Interesting background music. Makes a change to you know who channel 😇
hahah thank you!!

It’s still the lens that Mark Fearnley uses on his work and it’s really great
Interesting backstory thanks for sharing!

Awesome! what you like about the xt1 sensor I haven't tried it myself very curious to hear.

How is this lens paired with fuji sh2s

@@FlatLanderOptical thank you so much. Let me go check the Tamron 🙏
I have seen so many tests on this lens and they all come to different conclusions. Its very strange.
This lens is parfocal in practice
ive also noticed it does a good job however at the end it often doesnt keep up. thanks for commenting !
