I think it is way past time that you experience the Tales (the Tale of Jenny & Screech (full)).. this is the 13 min video that has all 3, so that you can do all 3 in the right order.. it is basically one story split into 3 songs… you will not be disappointed 😊
Abstract hip-hop isn't a bad way to put it at all. I'd recommend Genesis next. Or if you really want to see him going ham with the 'no rules to his flows' thing, try The Hunger. Other than that though, just in terms of his general artistry, I would urge you to check out The Tale of Jenny and Screech (the full video that also includes Violet's tale at the end: it's a trilogy of short songs that is best done together), and also the Money Game trilogy (each a full length song that should be done separately...just make sure to get the official lyric video for Money Game 2, as the live only contains a portion of the track).

This is one of my favorites for lyricism alone. It's deceptively upbeat and braggadocious, but the whole end of the song is gutting. "I don't feel so fresh, my bro / Things get slurry, speaking slow / Head in Hong Kong, wonton soup / Is what I have for brains, I know" [Because of his brain damage, he has noodles for brains] "That I want to spread these tattered wings, hold them high / Banished from the heavens but I'm knocking on the sky" [He wants to feel better, to fly, but feels like he's close to death and Heaven doesn't want him. This resonates to anyone who's suffered to the point of wanting life (God, their illness, karma, etc.) to kill them, and realizing the path ahead won't be the release of death but more suffering and pain instead.] "Living with depression is a blessing in disguise / Never second guessing, intuition getting wise / Want to sink into the pupil of my eye / Travel to the corner of my cornea and mind" [He's gotten wise about his life, and he finds himself in an impossible place - there are no corners in a sphere/cornea. ] "Look for all the answers that I never seem to find / Till then, I guess I'm still the illest of our time" [He keeps looking for answers or reasons behind his illness and suffering, but it doesn't work. He's still sick, and there's little hope that will change.] So, yeah, to me, it's quite sad. Despairing. Clever though. And I liked the Tyson-biting bars that few people seem to catch, which probably means I'm old. Everything is also brimming with layers. For example: "Ready? I'm heavy, I'm Mercury, I am Freddy." Heavy as in deep, serious, meaningful OR maybe depressed/sick/pushed down by the weight of the world on his back (like Atlas mentioned earlier) OR the chemical element mercury that's heavy. Mercury is often used to extract gold, which can tie to the alchemy bar. Mercury, the planet close to the sun/on fire/hot/lit/ 🔥 . Mercury, the Roman god of commerce, messengers, eloquence, travelers, and trickery. Freddy, like the earlier Kruger mention, or Freddie Mercury, the epitome of vocal talent from Queen. The whole song is like this. Impossible to catch in a first listen.

I'd stick to the reaction side of things, rather than doing breakdowns, if I were you. Then again, if you stick with it, you can only get better, I suppose... That wasn't a great breakdown tbh. Not only did you miss so much but you also got some things completely wrong. Most of the double, triple, quadruple meanings went right over your head, as did much of the intricate wordplay. It's admittedly hard to pick up on everything first time around. Ren's a highly intelligent guy, with a huge vocabulary, who spins bar after bar with multiple meanings, metaphor, poetic imagery, intricate wordplay and yet always with an overriding story or message. However, you're presenting yourself as an expert in this, when you're clearly not. You missed some blindingly obvious ones, including the most obvious double of them all, the song title itself. You also made no mention of the great beats that Ren laid down and his incredible production. I give you props for trying but this really wasn't great, as a breakdown... I'd suggest checking out Knox Hill's breakdown of this same track, to give yourself an idea of what a great breakdown looks and sounds like. In fact, I'd recommend checking Knox out even aside from that, if you're serious about doing breakdowns
