I can’t agree with your remarks on sweatshirts etc. They are warm, practical and functional for walking, exercising and hiking. A wrap wouldn’t do the job! X
Agree. Sweatshirts come in many different weights and cuts. I love ones that hit me at the top of the hip, have a feminine cut, cute color/pattern, and not too heavy fabric. They’re especially cute with your skinny jeans.
A shawl would be much more aging. I wouldn't wear Mickey Mouse or something cartoonish, but my fitted or looser front zip up sweat jackets are a fashionable staple. At 57, most people think I am 20 years younger! I dress chic and yet classic.
I'd say that one's figure, and location would play a factor. They look horrible on most fuller figures, but if I lived in the cooler north, I might only wear them at home.
I agree with you .who said you have to wear this or you can't wear that .life is short .you do what you want .if you are happy and you feel good .who cares what you wear .you make your self happy that's all that matters .life is hard feel free and let go and wear what you want .be free and enjoy 😊
Unfortunately, looking vulgar makes some women happy. Ex I don’t need to look at an essentially naked butt with a string running up the crack at the community pool.
@@solangelauthier2381 It’s more important to be happy than vain. What other people think shouldn’t matter if you’re comfortable in your own skin. You’d have to be very shallow to put other people’s opinions before your own. We’re all different, you do what makes YOU happy, and if that means wearing something you don’t actually like then go for it.
Happy and confident… and looking like a sack of potatoes. I do wonder WHY all those women who say « I do not care « , « all I want is comfort » and such remarks bother to watch videos about fashion and styling ? I am not interested in mechanic, I do not watch videos about mechanic. End of it.
Yes. Very annoying to be told to cover up. I discovered bikinis over 50, also crop tops and - now I'm over 65 - minis. It is nice to have outlived my shyness.
You give great advice but I think a woman should wear what makes her feel good. Society has a way of dictating how we should live, what we should wear, who we should date and all sorts of restrictions. When I turned 50, I stopped caring about the thoughts of society and that's when I started regaining my happiness back. #lifeisnotoverat50 🖤🥰🙌🏽💯
Hi Tracie, Thank you for your kind words! I'm glad to hear you regained your happiness when you stopped caring about other's opinions - there's something so freeing about that! 🥰
SAME!!!! I love being over 50 and finding out I could care less what anyone else thinks of me. i'm a good person and that's all that matters in the grand scheme of things. ❤
Availability of certain items, besides what we will wear too. Like try to find a skirt that isn’t butt tight and straight. Or T-shirts and blouses that aren’t transparent.
I will turn 70 in March. I workout, lift weights and have a healthy diet. I am slim, toned and weigh 127lbs. On beach holidays I wear short shorts and bikinis. I think it’s important that you wear what you feel comfortable in and what’s right for you in every situation. I do enjoy following you and you always give out some good pointers.
I'm 71 and do the same thing as you. I weigh 125#' but I would never be brave enough to dress like you.! One of the reasons I personally would not is because I'm a great grandma with a baby belly I can't seem to get rid of LOL Good for you!!
I was about to comment that this list sounds more like over 60 or 70, but you’ve made my comment not apply!! I’m 52 and plan to be like you when I grow up. ❤ I’m into fitness, yoga and eating healthy 🧘🏼♀️
I once read that women over 50 become invisible. At 54, I do feel that. But instead of finding it a negative, it’s quite liberating. I wish I had not spent so many years worrying about what anyone else thought.
At 64, I only wear dresses! I live in Florida where it’s hot 🥵 humid and sticky constantly. The dresses I choose are very light and airy fabrics that flow. I receive compliments daily from men and women of all ages.
A better point is: after 50, look in the mirror with a critical eye before you leave for the day. If you like what you see, it’s the right thing for you. No one else should be the judge of what you should consider right. We have to stop letting others tell us what is “age appropriate”. That’s what moms should be doing with their 13 year olds.
If only YOU like what you see, beware ! A lot of women cannot see properly the way they look and… end up looking frumpy or messy or clownish. Plain common sense is useful…
@@solangelauthier2381if i like what you see thats enough. Im not dressing for you or anyone else and i don’t care what you think about my clothes. Domt yall have something else to criticize except other women? Imagine using your channel to tear down other women. Just NO IM 58 and eff this mess 😂
@@solangelauthier2381 I see that you've left similar comments. How exhaustive it must be to be this worried about what others think of you or your clothes. It really is liberating to give absolutely no effs what anybody else thinks. I take loved ones into consideration but ultimately I don't embarrass myself so I dress how I want.
@@ItsLifeLibertyFreedom Everybody lives/thinks the way they want. If you find it « liberating » to look frumpy, well, good for YOU. It would not liberate ME at all ! I personally prefer to be stylish, both for myself and for the others ; it is not exhausting at all, it is not « worrying », on the contrary it is a pleasure for me to chose beautiful things and combine them in a stylish way (same for my home, by the way). But that does not mean I think about my clothes constantly. I have other interests in life such as museums - which probably have educated my eye to beauty and taste, as well as my family background -. My mother passed away at 96 and she was elegant to the very end.
Here I sit, at 51, wearing a cropped top with high waisted trousers and loving it. It shows about an inch of mid-section skin - but that inch doesn't bother me in the slightest. IMHO most of this is good advice - stuff like the chipped nail polish, but I also feel like much of this really depends on the individual. If someone feels great in something - they should wear it. Even over 50. 🤷
I'm 61 y.o., 5", and 95 lbs. I'm a swimmer, I swim a mile a day. I'm fit, I have a flat stomach, I have no visible cellulites (I have a little bit on the side of my butt). I wear short shorts, bikinis, tank tops, mini skirt, etc. It's great for hot L.A. weather. Live your life, forget your age, wear what you want.
I am regretting not investing in stocks ever since but still grateful i kept money in the money market. With about $200k maturing soon, i plan investing in the stock market. What stocks should I look into as a newbie to safely grow my money
Thats when you hire someone to manage your money. You need a (CFP) straight up! personally, I would invest in ETF's and also love investing in individual stocks.
I took charge of my portfolio but faced losses in 2022. Realizing the need for a change, I sought advice from a fiduciary advisor. Through restructuring and diversification with dividend stocks, ETFs, Mutual funds, and REITs, my $1.2M portfolio surged, yielding an annualized gain of 28%.
But you're not the expert, you just have an opinion. This woman's advice is for those of us that want to look classy as we age not like we're having a midlife crisis and we don't want to look cheap and common.
I too wear zip up hoodies in cooler weather but agree to not wear college teams or Mickey Mouse characters on them. Just like to wear solid color hoodies with a zipper.
I can't do winter without my fleece jackets! I agree they're not super elegant, but they keep me warm, and are easier to remove than a sweater when going from outdoors to indoors.I have a bunch of cardigans but they ate not that warm and don't go all the way up to keep me warm throughout, so they are not everyday items. Wraps are nice but not vey pratical. I am desperate for elegance but I just don't want to freeze!
All I care about is comfort and staying warm in the winter. I love my oversized flannels, sweaters and sweatshirts. I’d be flunking the fashion test for sure. I’m a mess. Haha!
I care about elegance in appropriate settings. At 60+ years, I still have a very active lifestyle and Love the great outdoors. Fleece is warm, comfortable, and easy care. I won’t be wearing a pashmina to go hiking with my dogs. Clothing should match the activity.
I agree. I have some wraps and I never use them because they are fiddly and they aren't that warm. I find fleece zip ups and pullovers the warmest. Even cardigans aren't that great. And I want warmth before beauty. And I think at certain ages and I am 67, while I would like to look good sometimes I just want to be comfortable.
I will turn 60 this year - stopped dying my hair during covid, and now it falls over half the back. I love it and am able to make lots of different buns
I'm 51 and NO ONE is going to tell me what to wear/what not to wear, what jewelry is ok, or how I should do my makeup. I do all those things FOR ME...NOT FOR OTHERS. If others don't like it, I don't care. For any women, if it makes YOU feel good or comfortable, keep doing it or wearing it! ❤
“As a woman gets older she should not be in style. She should have a style.” Best quote! At any age a woman should wear things that create a beautiful silhouette, colors to flatter her and are appropriate for the occasion.
Laura you nailed it. I have never been one to go with the trends. They come from Hollywood by men who dictate what women should wear (and say, feel and think) to boost their ego and bank account. There is a woman friend of mine who always dresses classically, neat, comfortable and 'put together' well. I like to see what she wears and other ladies to see what I can do to be that classic, and true to myself. I see a lot of other women who look like they are dressed to muck out the barn. If that's what they like....oh well.
Most of the things you talk about, I never have worn anyway! I gave up nail polish about 5 years ago. I just keep my nails short and neat. I have also stopped wearing higher heels. Nowadays, flats, sneakers or anything under 5cm. The great thing about being over 50 is that you realise that you are dressing for you, not for everyone else (who weren't even looking anyway!)
@@cor3944 yes, I loved using it. However the nail polish remover or some other chemicals, kept causing a reaction in my eyes/eyelids so I stopped using them. I also stopped using eye shadows and now I don't have any problems. I just keep my nails short and buffed, so they look shiny, clean and kept.
@@cor3944 nail polish has formaldehyde. It's one of the cancer causing agent. I stooped too 30 years ago when I saw how that chemical works in the lab to preserve the rats.
I think some of this advice is good but it really depends on the individual. At 54 I am still thin and the same size I was before kids. Im active, I still love really nice athleisure wear, cute fleece fitted hoodies when appropriate to run simple errands, a nice crew neck sweatshirt (without the school logo please), especially as I live in a colder climate half the year. Bring on the lug soled boots too. And 3 inch length shorts. No longer. I am petite at 5’2 with longer legs but I’m still a shortie. Longer shorts are frumpy on someone my size. But no daisy Dukes. I never did the bare all the body parts thing. But always important to be well groomed no matter if young or old.
I agree that it depends on your body to a degree. I don't wear shorts at all, but used to in my fifties, as was tall and slim. Still tall and slimish at 68 (a UK size 12, US size 8) but don't feel they would look good now, also sleeveless anything is awful on bigger arms as you age too. I cannot bear fleeces, unless you are actually hiking in the mountains, which they were designed for. But disagree about cardigans and wraps, I think these are so ageing, wear a well fitting sweater instead. I also disagree about large earrings, small, neat and delicate can look like your eldery auntie and gold jewellery, unless very modern and chunky, can be very ageing too. I also feel that too short haircuts show your age too, as a bit loose and undone is much more ageless if cut properly. I prefer a bit unstyled and undone, as the French seem to do so well.
I'm 61 y.o., I went to Equinox Gym ($300 a month fee), and the manager told me I don't need a gym, that my body looks 25 y.o.. I'm 5" and 95 lbs, and swim every day. I wear bikinis, and short shorts. I'm fit, I have no cellulites... idk why, lol. I'm from L.A., those short shorts are my uniform outside of work.
@@michellefleming3995 not if your short. I've put on some weight after I quit smoking. I'm not huge ,but not as fit as I was before. I think you can wear almost anything at any age, even size, it's a matter of you style it.if you are 60 and can rock short shorts, go ahead. Just please don't wear them with a crop top. A bikini is fine as long as it's at the pool or beach.
I know you say round equals pounds but I live where it is really cold and a crew neck top/sweater makes so much more sense than a v-neck. I understand what your saying though.
Won't ever stop wearing my sweatshirts, but agree with the nail polish. I'll even go further and say that no one should have chipped nail polish no matter what your age. If you don't feel you can keep it up, just use a lighter color like clear, white or pink. Thanks for the video.
I am 69 years old and I disagree on ditching the the zip up fleece ( fitted) jackets. They are nice looking for a walk in cold weather. Most women know what they like and what they look good in after age 50. Most 18 year olds pretty much look the same. By age 50 most women’s bodies have their own story to tell depending on what has happened to them over the last half of the century. Enough said. Life is too damned short not to wear what you feel good in.
I will wear what I want. Im not going to go granny just cause you think I should!! Im 56 and still wearing the same clothes I did when I was in my 30s and 40s. I like it and its comfortable so I am not going to change!
This attitude shows how women today (older and younger) think it's ok to go out in public with ratty unkempt hair, sloppy shoes, pajamas and awful torn up pants. Yeah, ladies, wear anything you want.
I love fashion. I believe if you take great care of yourself and look great, wearing anything that fits well and compliments your body is beautiful.Age doesn’t mean stop loving fashion if that’s your personality. I don’t dress a certain way because of my age neither do I dress to please anyone. You can be in your 80s and still look fashionable and current.
The most important thing that I stopped wearing: uncomfortable, sweaty or itchy synthetic-fiber fabrics. I always “fell in love” with the cute styles in these fabrics from fast-fashion places, then couldn’t tolerate wearing them. No more!
I couldn't figure out why I didn't like wearing some of my clothes that were so adorable. After learning about slow fashion and quality items, it finally dawned on me it was the cheap fabric that kept me from wanting to wear it. Guess our bodies instinctively know we shouldn't be dressing in plastic, takes our brains a little longer for it to sink in. haha I'm glad sustainable fashion is starting to catch on mainstream.
Wow, I thought I was the only person who felt this way! I am at the point where I cannot stand too much polyester. I spend a lot of time now searching for linen and rayon because it feels so much better and not as sweaty as other fabrics that show my rolls 😂
I agree with everything with the exception of fleece and sweatshirts and maybe the earrings. I love my cozy fleece sweatshirts and hoodies! I particularly love hoodies and don't see that as something to avoid after a certain age. I don't wear hoodies with cartoons or sports logos. The round neck may be problematic for some, but I keep myself in very good shape and the round neck is not an issue for me. No offense, but I actually find wraps to be frumpy. I myself only wear stud earrings but I see older women wearing bigger hoops and some of them look great. I think on a bigger woman, a bigger earring looks better than a smaller earring. Those are bigger earrings you are wearing.
Necklines relate to face shape. I have a diamond shaped face but it's fairly wide so round necks are just not my friend. I find Vees pull my face down and age me. Necklines that are wider are my best option.
The round neck has nothing to do with age. It's about face shape, and neck length. I have a fairly short neck and a diamond shaped face, but a slightly round diamond, not a long, narrow one. Round necks, especially high ones always looked terrible on me even as a young girl. This is true about all necklines. They need to compliment the shape of your face, which will automatically make you look younger.
I would suggest saying "no" to those cold-shoulder blouses. You know - the ones with the holes in the upper sleeve. I never thought they looked attractive on anyone, regardless of age. Looks like the dog mauled your blouse.
I'm 51 and loving it. Stopped the short shorts a few years ago but I have some that are custom sewn to the right length, made from linen pants I had. Not Bermuda length but not short short. I love them! Also doing smaller stud earrings now. Will keep my sweats for our cold winters though, just for around the house.
The only one I agree with is #5. No one should be wearing something they hate for fashion! I had to change my entire way of dressing when I became disabled, so elastic waistbands are now a necessity. Yes, cover the band, lol. A longer shirt, or one tucked in and pulled over, does look amazingly better! As for her opening statement about not being the sexiest woman in the room... ladies, you are ALWAYS the sexiest woman in the room ❤ Even if you keep it covered 😊
I am alone now at almost 77. I discovered yesterday that I really can't work a back zipper that goes all the way up to my neck by myself. haha. I found a wrap dress 3 years ago that I loved and bought in 3 colors. Only thing is I've lost a little of my tummy so they are slightly too big but they still work and are super flattering on my hourglass figure.
Agree with all except the sweatshirts. Its a casual look which I personally enjoy and don't feel that being a "certain" age stops me wearing em. (PS I live in Canada)
I like your suggestions. And I know we watch to take what works and leave what doesn't, but #3, college sweatshirts/hoodies, is the mac and cheese of my fashion world. I might not go out in them much, but popping one on is like a big hug. Not trying to be 20, just willing look like a box a box for a good sweatshirt. (Durable and handles dog hair is a bonus.) lol
These are good tips but if you want to wear hoodies and daisy dukes, you should... life is too short to give a rats tail about what others think... After 50, you should wear what you want to and care less.
How can I argue with someone who describes her sweatshirts as mac and cheese and a big hug? 🥺🥰Keep and enjoy your sweatshirts but I encourage you to go out of your comfort zone and choose other options when you are heading out to restaurants, etc.
It’s all down to the individual. Shape, age and lifestyle are all factors in how we dress. There is no set rule. If I want to wear an all black sweat shirt and black trousers with an elasticated waist. I will, because that’s what I feel comfortable in!!!👍🥰
I’m 65, and I like some of the suggestions on this video. I don’t agree with it all, I just take what I like. There’s really not a lot of rules to fashion other than: if you feel confident, stylish, secure, and comfortable in what you’re wearing, then go for it! I wear my best jewelry everyday, eat off my china, wear jeans, sweatpants, leggings, slacks, wrap dresses, or whatever and I feel great! Life is too short to worry about what anyone else thinks about my style except me! Take what you want from these videos (they’re suggestions) and leave the rest!😊
Not 50 yet, but at 48 years I'm getting closer. I don't believe in rules for dressing after a certain age, you should wear whatever makes you feel comfortable and confident. I will never give up my hoodies, they are my favorite and I workout a lot so I will continue to wear shorter shorts into my 50's as long as I still feel comfortable in them.
I have a relative that's 96 years old. She still rocks stylish clothing in shorts and was dancing in her swimsuit at a resort recently. I asked her what her secret was and she said "don't stop moving". She was athletic her whole life, a dancer and then an avid tennis player as she became older. Weight bearing exercise and staying active is one thing that will keep us young and looking good in youthful attire. She's my inspiration. I'm in my early 50's so I'm also new to this 'being old' thing. haha I need to stop watching these Thou Shalt Not videos. 🤭😜

I agree. It’s the context of when/where we are wearing fleece and hoodies. Although the points about earrings and chipped mail polish apply to all ages, she seems to be encouraging the “old lady” wardrobe - long tops worn untucked don’t look good on anyone.
Not really practical or pretty to wear a cardigan, a wrap or that strange top in the video when you go to the gym. Quality hoodies and sweats are de rigueur outerwear there, regardless of age.
I agree with all of these points. Especially the Daisy Dukes unless you’re at home. Older women look ridiculous cheeky shorts no matter how good it makes them feel.

Thank you for your great advice! Sweatshirts and zip fleece and hoodies are necessities in cold weather depending where you live. Wear what you love and what makes you happy. Dress appropriate when its required to be. Times are tough these days and not everyone can buy a new wardrobe.
I'm only 15 seconds in and I've got to pause and tell you how nice your look in that gold jacket. Nancy you're making me love gold and helping me see that gray/silver hair does look nice in it.
I agree with these tips, especially sweats. I hate them, I always had a weird feeling wearing them and pinpointed it to just feeling frumpy. The best thing I did was get rid of them, and replaced them with nice comfy lounge wear. Even when I was younger I hated booty shorts & mini skirts.
I watched this video so I could argue with it, but I ended up agreeing with almost everything. The only point I don't agree with is that there is something wrong with round necks. It depends on one's face shape and body type. Personally I find round necklines flattering, with the exception of "unisex" or men's style crewnecks that are too tight and masculine and just, ugh no. We can let go fo that!

Yeah... I'm with everyone on sweatshirts and fleece. I wear sweatshirts when I'm working in the yard, hiking or at the shore in cooler weather. Sweet little cardigans and wraps just don't work. And Pennsylvania in winter. Only fleece works. Ahhhh. It's not always about fashion.
I think this is pretty good advice all around, but some of it definitely depends on our body shape and level of fitness. I love sweatshirt and they don't add weight or look frumpy on me. Plus it's cold as crap where I live. Also, I am very fit and have very muscular thighs, long shorts on me look bizarre, so it's short ones or nothing. Maybe the no sweatshirts works if you are still a working professional, but I am a personal trainer. I would look like an idiot showing up to my job in a wrap instead of a hoodie.
This video is silly and stereotypes women over age 50. Who says that women over 50 NEEDS to wear these things. What if we want to and what if we still can and still look good in them? I am 56, and I have exercised and ate healthy since age 18 and so, my body is slim, toned and fit and I look much younger for my age. I get mistaken for being in my mid to late 30"s all the time. And you know what? I still wear skinny jeans or a bikini and I still wear cut off denim shorts just below my butt. And I also wear big chunky earrings because I have long, big curly hair so, small earrings can't be seen with my hair.
The problem with this is it’s always women who are told how to dress and wear our hair according to how old we are. I’ve seen countless articles in magazines since I was a teenager telling us how to dress in our 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s. We’re constantly hearing how long or short our hair should be and what hair styles and colors soften our wrinkles. In my life I’ve seen maybe one article telling men how to appropriately dress for their age. And practically every women’s or gossip magazine has a dedicated “do” and “don’t” section about how women should dress. Our society is still focused on making women feel we need to look a certain way in order to be accepted and that we need to seek the approval of men and “society”. The ‘shoulds’ and ‘shouldn’ts’ are directed primarily at women.
How many local male anchors and meteorologists look like they're dressed to go clubbing or work in a lounge? The males desk anchors on the morning and evening news, even the youngest, wear full suits and ties and neat, close haircuts. The young ladies on local anchor desks now wear Veronica Lake/ Pageant Girl hairdos, and tight -- often skin baring dresses, no jacket. Often they deliver the news/ weather more like RV sales models than professionals. The guys in professional jobs look far more so.
@@brindageorge701: And who do you think is responsible for that? The networks and producers have final say on wardrobe, hair, and makeup. I so agree! Getting “older”, 62 now, was really freeing, I don’t have to try to look sexy, of or younger, any more. I can wear exactly what I want, and I do. I want to feel my best, but I think 50-year olds in teenybopper skin-tight jeans or Daisy Dukes look a bit sad. I never wanted to look “sexy” really, my youthful bombshell body got me too much unwanted male attention as it was.
Love my skinny jeans and short shorts. And if my 27 year old daughter tells me that something I’m wearing looks “old”, I toss it, not because I HAVE to, but because I WANT to.

@@mrss4328 , I'm just stating a fact that men love the look of girls in leggings, its how they're wired (unless they are into the gents). I'm not saying girls should wear them to please men, they should wear them if they like them. If a teen or even older or way older wants to wear leggings who am I to deny them its their life and I have no say so in others lives....I realize this and keep my trap shut. My 22 year old niece loves them and she look fine in them.
Leggings look good on me but then I have a problem on how to match them with a top. I wear them around the house mostly but I'm getting to the point where I'll probably give all these away because for the most part I'm not comfortable wearing them out anymore because it is a chore to figure out what top to wear them with. I have long legs and I'm almost 6 ft
I wear my sweatshirts for yard work, cleaning my snakes, home doing household tasks. Never gained weight so they still look acceptable, but I do not wear them out. Still not an old lady at 72. I never showed too much skin or wore big costume jewelry. I like pastel clear nail polish. I do have some interesting clothing my style and fit which will not go out of style. I like classic style with a twist.
Thanks for sharing your style tips, Kary Ann! 😍I agree with you, sweatshirts are find for household tasks and relaxing. It's when people choose to wear them for everything else that we need to avoid.
I have to agree with you on most of these, particularly sweatshirts. If they are worn strictly for comfort, that's a valid choice, but don't imagine that it looks flattering.
I have to say, most videos I see about what not to wear after 50, are showing clothes (daisy dukes) that I think look like garbage on anyone of any age. I'm 57 and my lifestyle of gardening, dog rescue and such things hasn't changed just because I'm over 50 and I just wear what I'm comfortable in. In winter it's jeans, t shirts, running shoes and zip up hoodies. Summer it's pull on shorts, t shirts and running shoes. If I go out somewhere, like the grocery store, I might put on jeans and a "nicer" t shirt. That's about it for me. I also don't wear anything that I have to keep fumbling with like a shawl. No one hits 50 and suddenly changes into some mutant crypt keeper or something.
A round neckline doesn’t add pounds unless one is already out of shape. A crew neck white tee under a sweater or sweatshirt definitely adds a layer that looks chic and not frumpy.
Love these points! Discovered your channel today and have been watching for the last 3 hrs. Makes it easier when giving the task of downsizing the closet!
I enjoyed this video, and you made a lot of sense because so many people think anything goes! When you reach a new chapter in life I think it’s important to remember the past is just that! I love getting older, and looking sophisticated in my looks!! Some are threatened by this ,but I love creating a new me!! Ladies need to remember that wearing clothes that are for twenty something year olds is not cool no matter how thin you are or young you think you are! Maturing is not a bad word!! Embrace Classic designs, and people will notice it!! And most importantly you will be respected ✝️🙏
I had my colour and image done about 30 years ago. Before that, I copied everything my sister wore because she looked fabulous. However we are different heights and shape. I’m a petite gamine and knowing how to dress to what suits me has been such a confidence boost.

Does anyone else paint their OWN nails any more? I do, and get compliments on how nice they look. One of the first things I did when I moved to New York was to get a manicure (my first!) at Bloomies. That was 1966. It was a Mess, and I haven't had a salon manicure since!

I need my hoodies and sweatshirts...I walk 3-4 miles a day and in the cold they are perfect. A shawl will not work.
If we are a slim size 6, we don't need to look like June Cleaver, either!🙄

Unfortunately, looking vulgar makes some women happy. Ex I don’t need to look at an essentially naked butt with a string running up the crack at the community pool.
At the risk of looking frumpy or ridiculous ? What makes you « happy » may not be the best for your looks…
@@solangelauthier2381 It’s more important to be happy than vain. What other people think shouldn’t matter if you’re comfortable in your own skin. You’d have to be very shallow to put other people’s opinions before your own. I once read that women over 50 become invisible. At 54, I do feel that. But instead of finding it a negative, it’s quite liberating. I wish I had not spent so many years worrying about what anyone else thought.
I love your viewpoint and outlook on living and enjoying life over 50! 🥰
At 64, I only wear dresses!
I live in Florida where it’s hot 🥵 humid and sticky constantly.
The dresses I choose are very light and airy fabrics that flow.
I receive compliments daily from men and women of all ages.
I live in the Midwest with hot, humid summers and I also prefer dresses.

Here I sit, at 51, wearing a cropped top with high waisted trousers and loving it. It shows about an inch of mid-section skin - but that inch doesn't bother me in the slightest.
One thing about aging. You care less about what it looks like and are more concerned that your outerwear actually keeps you warm.

Why not nail polish? Not artificial ones but it looks always gorgeous and classy.
@@cor3944 yes, I loved using it. However the nail polish remover or some other chemicals, kept causing a reaction in my eyes/eyelids so I stopped using them.
Many tall style guros live in their world and have no clue about what their recommendations will cause to petite women.
If you don’t take care of yourself than this video applies.

@Hello there, how are you doing this blessed day?
The most important thing that I stopped wearing: uncomfortable, sweaty or itchy synthetic-fiber fabrics. I always “fell in love” with the cute styles in these fabrics from fast-fashion places, then couldn’t tolerate wearing them. No more!
Me too. I am getting fussy by the year and I just know I won't wear it if I don't like the material against my skin.
Yep. Totally agree. TBH, I think the outfit she's wearing is frumpy. Shapeless T, big earrings, polyester Cardi...! And 'Karen' hairdo.
Absolutely! I think those blouses are for those under 35… umm maybe 30
Well actually I think everyone should say no to them just because they’re ugly! Haha. Just my opinion of course
Is anyone still wearing those? I haven't seen one on anyone in about two years.
🤣🤣🤣...the dog part..
Do you know with christ lord jesus you'll be free and live an eternal life that brings peace and joy if you accept christ jesus now!
I have more sweatshirts now than ever before in my life. When styled right they are quite stylish.
Thanks! We, in Canada wear fleece, at least I do, to keep warm!! hello, it's cold up here in winter.
But with earings. I disagree. No
The only one I agree with is #5. No one should be wearing something they hate for fashion!
I had to change my entire way of dressing when I became disabled, so elastic waistbands are now a necessity. Yes, cover the band, lol. A longer shirt, or one tucked in and pulled over, does look amazingly better!

I've never worn the Daisy Dukes but I do love my fleece jackets!
I agree, will keep my Vineyard Vines Sweats....
Yup. Won't get rid of fleece and sweat shirts or hoodies. I don't live in a place where it matters anyway
How can I argue with someone who describes her sweatshirts as mac and cheese and a big hug? 🥺🥰Keep and enjoy your sweatshirts but I encourage you to go out of your comfort zone and choose other options when you are heading out to restaurants, etc.
Never getting rid of my sweatshirts!! I am a jeans and sweatshirt or jeans and sweater kinda gal… and I’m absolutely fine with that
It’s all down to the individual.
I think this advice applies to all ages because it really depends on the individual and occasion.
Ok let us suppose (suppose) your 96 years old has a fine body. What about her face ? …
@@aquaseahorselove3939 A wrinkled face does NOT go with shorts, bikinis, miniskirts and the like - whatever the body.
Do as you please, stay the way you are, but then why do you watch this type of video ?
@@solangelauthier2381 Her good attitude keeps her beautiful. You sound like you could work on yours or you're not going to age gracefully. People think she's only in her 60's, she's not all wrinkled up. When people find out how old she is, they want their picture made with her and start taking selfies with her.
Yeah!I’ll never give up my sweatshirts. I’m 71.
I will wear what I want thank you very much and I just turned 60. People compliment me all the time.... not that I'm looking for compliments.. I just wear what the hell I want 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁🕊️
Love my sweatshirts and I’m 67!
You sound so defensive. Of course, wear what you want. If you look ridiculous, who cares? You are not that important.
@@maryoleary2037 never ever did I say I was that important. This video is annoying telling people what they should or shouldn't wear at certain ages. Pure rubbish and judgemental. Wear what ya want, RIGHT ON BABY! lol!😁
@@melissacoburn6873 I would suggest that you not watch videos that tell you how to dress...if you don't want to know the suggestions. It is your "I will wear what I want thank you very much" and your "I just wear what the hell I want" that make you sound defensive. Your statement that people compliment you all the time, makes it sound like you think you are important. As I said, don't watch these videos if you think they are rubbish and judgemental.
@@maryoleary2037 I suggest you quit suggesting what I do or don't do. People shouldn't judge about what people are wearing. PERIOD.

Agree with all, but do love sweatshirts that fit well for casual daily wear when it is cold. Also still like a quarter zip as well.
She lives in southern California. She doesn't have to think about cold weather. I get sick to death with fashion "experts" who never have to shovel snow or live through months of below 0°cold. Useless.
Yes, I wear sweatshirts because they are warm and easy to care for. And I will continue to do so.
@@edennis8578 I agree says the Canadian. We need the coziness and warmth in the winter that fleece can provide.
I love hoodies! I never used to wear them but since I got older and don't care if I am seen in them, I love them.
I agree with all of these points. Especially the Daisy Dukes unless you’re at home. Older women look ridiculous cheeky shorts no matter how good it makes them feel.
OMG yes - I just stopped going to the salon as it has gotten out of control AND it takes forever. Love doing my own at home now. Still trying to get the hang of it! Thank you for the video!
i;m 51 and wear what i want,! most things on your list i wear and i feel good in it . must say i look younger than 51 and my boyfriend is 42 .. age doesnt matter!!!!
Thank you for your great advice! Sweatshirts and zip fleece and hoodies are necessities in cold weather depending where you live. Wear what you love and what makes you happy. Dress appropriate when its required to be. Times are tough these days and not everyone can buy a new wardrobe.
But Sweatshirts and Fleece aren't especially warm? Wool is much warmer.
I'm only 15 seconds in and I've got to pause and tell you how nice your look in that gold jacket. Nancy you're making me love gold and helping me see that gray/silver hair does look nice in it.
Over 50- wear what you want! I’m not giving up sweatshirts.
Wear what you want. I’d never give up my sweatshirts.
I'm British and the idea of ones fanny stuck to the seat stopped me dead. Then I remembered fanny means something different in the US. Phew:)
Oh my, I just looked up the British version of the word. LOL 🤣
Hilarious!
What does fanny mean in the US?
@@isabelbotelho8525 It means buttocks or butt.
Lol. Same here. 😂
I agree, Round necks are very flattering, Turtle necks add pounds IMHO.
True freedom is not caring what other people think of you.
Wear whatever you want as long as you feel good in it ❤

I never want to be the sort of person who doesn't care what others think. You don't have to be a slave to it but...I care!
The women look overly sexy nowadays because that’s what the networks *WANT.* Sex sells. You don’t think a lot of people watch certain news channels because of their favorite anchorperson or how cute the weather girl is? You have quite a few older men still delivering the news, but very few women over the age of 45. You just proved my point.
Thanks for the video. It is worded in such a way that getting older doesn't sound so awful. Everybody gets older , so enjoy it !
I believe, these advices are for women over 60.Today, the most women over 50,have a great , healthy and fit body.
Sure wish more ladies of older ages would keep long hair. It's nice to see 60, 70 + year olds with long natural hair.
I just turned 50. As long as I can properly care for it, I am keeping my long hair!

I absolutely agree. the most aging thing u can do over 50 is to cut ur hair. shoulder length layers with maybe a few blonde highlights....always very flattering.
Amen ! I'm growing mine out & I love it!!
I'm 56 and have hair halfway down my back and growing fast since I switched to Keto, and I'll NEVER cut it I don't care what the "chop it after 40" crowd says.
At age 52 I feel comfortable enough to wear whatever I like. I try to stay current but don't feel the need to try all the new trends. I still wear jeans shorts (it's usually hot here in FL!)but I never liked daisy dukes even in my 20s. I wore my FL Gators sweat shirt to exercise class today. And I'll.never cut my hair short or give up my chandelier earrings.
I follow several RUclips influencers like you, and this information was very helpful but I didn’t think about subscribing until I watched one of your other videos and when I saw you with your dog, I was hooked! She’s a cutie and looks just like my Riley, whom I miss very much. I am impressed with your no-nonsense, honest videos and that you seem genuine on a platform of phonies.
Thank you for your kind words, Jeanne! I'm so sorry to hear about Riley and that Maggie can help bring back warm memories of her. I'll be sure to include her in more of my videos!🥰🐶
Hi Jeanne, how's your day going with you?
Sweatshirts and hoodies are ageless. Worn for a casual look of course
Your final tip was the best of all - I've found those one off impulse buys are usually nothing to do with style and more to do with behaviour. The regret usually sets in quite quickly.
Now I've identified that I never do it.
I agree with your sweat shirt comments. I own one and use it once in a blue moon. My brother saw me with it and said “what are you wearing, you should change that immediately”…I agree with him and you.
I never had anything to prove showing skin has nothing to do with age. We can wear whatever we are comfortable and confident in.
Laxity has nothing to do with good style
I still wear my sexy on
I disagree with you on this. This video is silly and stereotypes women over age 50. Who says that women over 50 NEEDS to wear these things. LOL, I'll be here whenever you need me, Danielle! 🥰
I stopped wearing leggings a few years ago (I'm 62) after reading a piece by Marie Helvin about what not to wear when you're over 50. I go to tap dancing lessons & I wear flared exercise trousers which are surprisingly flattering 😊
I don’t think leggings look good on most people, and certainly not on anyone over the age of 12.
@@mrss4328 , You haven't talked to a teenage boy recently have you? They LOVE the leggings on the ladies.(way above the age of 12) 😆
@@charlottesmom since when are girls or women supposed to dress in order to tempt men? It’s one thing to look pretty and another that promotes only sexual attraction. And, most women do not look good in leggings.
Cleaning my snakes?
I’m 81, I really don’t need someone telling me what I should or should not wear.
Thanks for helping me with some of those things I'm not quite sure about
So happy you found it helpful! 💕
I am 60 and thank you, perfect good byes, trying to figure out how to stay relevant, yet classy, you make it easy.
I have to agree with you on most of these, particularly sweatshirts. If they are worn strictly for comfort, that's a valid choice, but don't imagine that it looks flattering.
Wear what makes you feel good... Accentuate the positive!!
Rock on Granny's!
You hit the target spot on with each of these items!!! Thank you!
Thanks so much, Vickie! 😍
A round neckline doesn’t add pounds unless one is already out of shape. A crew neck white tee under a sweater or sweatshirt definitely adds a layer that looks chic and not frumpy.

Hi Tina, how's your day going with you?
Does anyone else paint their OWN nails any more? I do, and get compliments on how nice they look. One of the first things I did when I moved to New York was to get a manicure (my first!) at Bloomies. That was 1966. It was a Mess, and I haven't had a salon manicure since!
Yes, many people still like to do their own nails, including me! I go back and forth between painting my own nails and using press-ons. 💅
I opt for well-cared-for natural nails. I think it looks better on my older hands than calling attention to them with color.
I stopped wearing high heels shoes a long time ago. They are gorgeous when you know how to walk on them and for me they were so uncomfortable.
