I’m 64 and I actually enjoyed dressing and having my Mom be the one to comment on my outfit or just a piece of what I was wearing. She was always positive. I lost her last February and find I miss her most when dressing for an event she would have been part of, (even if it was just a shopping spree we went on) and no one notices what I have on. (My husband doesn’t count) I still sometimes find myself thinking “Oo, Mom would have liked this.”

I am 62 and still love fashion. I’ll wear platform shoes that are comfortable, as well as flats. T shirt dresses are unflattering to most women’s bodied. A lovely collared shirt dress with a belted/cinched waist with a blazer or sweater feels like I took the time to look pretty.
I love my accessories. I get most of my compliments when I coordinate beautiful jewelry with the colors and patterns in my clothing. Fashion is my happy place.

I think these tips are relevant to all ages. Most of us really do know what we love and what makes us feel good in our own skin. The confidence to not follow the crowd is what we have to develop.
I had a similar conversation with my 15 year old in a shop change room. As she was torn between what she loved and what she thought her friends would love. To her credit she went with the items she loved rather than what she thought her friends would love. As predicted two weeks later her friends had moved on to the next trend and were trying to get more shifts to fund it and she was still wearing the clothes she loved.

Please do not think that 55 is old. Over 50s can wear anything a 40 year old can wear. I do. It's all about the way you carry yourself. Tell yourself you're 40. Keep people guessing your age.

I was laid off and started my own business during the "great shut down". I decided to use that as an opportunity to rid my closet of clothing I no longer needed or cared for. OMGOODNESS. I just love that bag. Thanks for going over the styles and fashion “un-rules”. I am purging my closet again this fall. I ordered my first Lilly Pulitzer for my trip to Hawaii in October. I am treating my BBForever from college 45 years ago. We are still besties. She was my two year roommate. We are going on a trip to celebrate the lives of the two sisters I lost to cancer and her sister she lost to suicide. To sisters!!

Thank you so much for opening my eyes to see that comfort and flats are more than acceptable and can be fresh and fun to wear. Great video! It reminds me of a John Mellencamp song lyric “all the girls walk by, dressed up for each other”. I am 50 and finally finding freedom from that! I also recently rid my closet of clothes that don’t fit quite right or I need to lose a few pounds to fit back into. Only keeping things I feel great in! Hubby loves my crazy curly hair, so I started wearing it natural and stopped trying to fight it. So much easier and less time to do every day! Blessings all😊

Love all of these points! I do struggle a bit with pairing down my spring/summer wardrobe though. I have everyday clothes, camping clothes and lake house clothes. At home I like to dress a bit more refined, camping and relaxing are much more casual but need to take sports into consideration. Biking, hiking, swimming etc. I feel like I need three separate wardrobes for those two seasons! I make many of my clothes for a better fit for my aging body. I definitely need to refine my personal style.

Great advice, especially to find your style. I used to dress according to my moods, but now I understand that picking a cohesive style makes life easier. 🙂

Please forgive my manner of approach, for dropping a non related comment here on your personal page. I'm trying to be cool and believe me I'm cool. Please feel free to become friends with me and talk to me, I will really appreciate that.Your profile was suggested to me, so I decide to drop a comment as a medium of asking permission and friendship, so it wouldn't had been possible to know that such an amazing young lady like do exist please feel free to reply to me anytime❤❤❤

I am now 52 and have 2 pairs of shoes with a tiny heel. I love fancy trainers and sandals now much easier to wear. Love the bright colours on the rail behind you. Thanks for the tips, I also only wear what I like. 😁
