Preach on, Sister 🎉🎉 Thank you for addressing the issue that women over 50 aren’t old! I’m 81 and don’t plan on being old for at least another 15 years 😂❤
I'm in my 50s, and I'm most certainly old. I'm not in my teens, 20s, 30s, or even 40s. I've gone through menopause, I have less energy, I have osteopenia, I need a facelift. But I've also lived. What is wrong with saying we're old? I hate delusional statements that seek to keep me in a state I no longer identify with, because I'm no longer in it.
@@dammar117 Aging is a way Mother Nature reminds us that looks are unimportant and makes us delve into our true self and develop that to its full potential.
@@gillianchoo5980 Age is not a number. Age is the amount of years you have lived on this planet. It's the accumulation of our experiences, and also the wear and tear of our bodies. I'm not in the same basket as a 30-year-old.
@@pamostman516 That's very nice, and surely something we should be doing by all means, but the truth of the matter is that aging is the deterioration of our bodies. Everything in nature deteriorates. Plants, fruits, even minerals erode.
I notice in ads for these types of "old lady" clothes that the manufacturers show younger models wearing them! It's meant to fool us into thinking it's a style that younger people wear too! When the opposite is true.
This is so true! The ads reel me in because those women are at least 20 yrs younger than me so I think I'm in the right ball park for those clothes...well said !
@@marycottee2259 I find shopping on line or at stores geared towards younger buyers will allow me to find clothing that doesn't look like something great gramma would wear! And I am a great gramma!! LOL!
I have noticed that too! But what is even more annoying, are the elderly products catalogs that show 30-year old women modeling seniors’ support aids. 🥵
There’s the Fact! I like youthful styles, but the determining factor of ‘do I look nice’ or ‘do I look bad’, is made by checking my face when I am dressed in a style, For my wrinkles show more, and that makes the difference to me…
Please remember many older women have painful finger joints from years of toil. Elastic waists and pull on slacks are not a fashion statement, they are essential.
I have a bunch of adaptive styles in my catalog we are always going to have to start with what works for you, but there are elastic waist pants that do not look like elastic waist pants and I think those are a great option
@@NadaManley Thank you! Truly at 82 years old I have freed myself of attempting to looking more youthful or fashionable. My best outfit is a healthy body, trim and flexible. I am 5ft. tall and stay fit from decades of a vegan diet. I wear timeless clothes, jeans and knit pants, skimmers and shorts. I have fun as well with the fun T-shirts that display messages with an attitude! 🙃
I am a plus size woman of 59.75 yrs and I refuse to set foot in the over 50 stores.I would rather poke out my eyes than being seen in any of the frumpy things they aim at us 🤬
I am 65. I am 5 foot 2 and weight 97 pounds. Old people's clothing is made WAY too big for me. And it looks bad! I rock cargo pants. I shop at Garage.....I have 2 pairs of pants from there that I've worn constantly for over 2 years and they wash well. They aren't junk. I'll wear what I like.
Why do the stores/buyers think women who are 50 and over will settle for outdated, frumpy junk? We have money to spend, and we want to feel and look beautiful for US. I don't care what others think, but I am offended by the absolute garbage major retailers think we deserve. I require well made, quality, fashionable clothing and accessories. Love your content.
@@mikki3961 totally agree! It’s so frustrating. This should be the time when we can find the best style of our lives and we have to really search for it.
We went from being the fashion queens on one day to being bizarre overnight because of a birthday - that's what the buyers for these stores imagine. From wearing power suits to large flower printed polyester messes? Who wears that?
This part. They need to stop thinking "worn-out housewife" and start thinking "CEO." At our age we should have our life in order and be in charge of what's happening around us - and if we're not, we should at least be allowed to dress like we are!
I remember on my first position as a buyer our office manager had to be 70 years old...She was one of the most stylish women I've ever met....Classic...and she wore 3 inch heels... It's a lesson its not age its taste...
I always learn so much from your videos. So many “over 50” influencers are so obviously pushing us to buy from their sponsors. I never feel like you do that and your content is A+. Thank you.
So true !! I go shopping and all I see is clothes that make you look frumpy… and yes I can’t stand when people say “wear what you want, shouldn’t care what people think” may be true for some people, but you’re representing yourself. How you look is what you attract!!
Nada, thanks for the honest, no-nonsense, straight talk. So necessary, as the offerings in stores aimed at middle-aged women are truly hideous. “Granimals for grannies” 😂! I’ll add that to my repertoire of mantras from you and other style advisors that serve as reminders while shopping.
My style has always been ageless, so I haven't felt the need to give up much (except for my beloved high heels, due to painfully aging feet). I've had pretty much the same style since I was 16, just tweaked to weed out very specifically dated items (e.g. shoulder pads, lol). Classic, feminine pieces. No trends. Since i started dressing like an elegant adult at 16, not 45, I never had to give up anything.
I understand your comment about giving up the high heels and felt I had to do the same thing not that long ago. My compromise on that now is that I wear a kitten heel.
At age 75 and having had a career in the fashion industry as a fashion illustrator in NYC and then a fitness trainer in my 40s I have a pretty good idea of what looks good on me. I've eliminated a few things as I've gotten older. 1. no heavy makeup esp foundation or any heavy eye makeup, no false eyelashes! I've always loved the natural look since I was in my late teens. Am going for those Boom sticks! Renown makeup artist Bobbie Brown said women over 50 should ditch powdered makeup and we shouldn't be wearing the same makeup we wore in our 20s and 30s, makes sense! 2. I love drawstring pants or cropped pants more than just elasticized pants, it's a more youthful look than just elasticized. Hate wearing sneakers though with cropped pants, a horrible look that ages a woman! Along with tops that have a scooped neckline with gathers. Nothing makes a woman look older than that, imho. 3. no more bikinis or shorts! I ditched bikinis/two pieces a long time ago, a one piece is so much more flattering. I was wearing medium length shorts recently, but decided I don't like wearing them at my age, so I'm going for great looking drawstring cropped pants! 4. No more lethal looking high heels that look like weapons of mass destruction! There are so many stylish flats or sandals these days and they're way more comfortable! I wince at some of the high heels today that have really super high heels, not good for the feet! 5. Nothing too frilly or ruffles! Simplicity rules! 6. You can be in the greatest shape but as you age, your skin gets old looking! Older women have wrinkles esp in their neck, their arms etc. if not their face! And on their chest, so it's best to cover up the best you can, which also protects against skin cancers! 7. I go for two things now, comfort and style! Thanks for the great tips~
Tankinis are very handy if you are tall and long bodied. I have eyed up so many cute bathing suits only to need at least three more inches in the length
I absolutely love your refreshing take on the stuff thats aimed at us midlife women and why it doesn't work. It gives me lots of food for thought and no offence whatsoever as it makes me rethink some of my own looks, and maybe some of my pieces are aging me. I find these videos so helpful, please do more of them, there are so many items pushed at us that are truly hideous and it's not what we want. Xx
You know where else I've seen these clothes? In a store for women who are vertically challenged like my 5'1 self. 😂 always with those little tiny flowers or the matchy-matchy. 😅 ❤ the vid! Brand new sub here!
Awesome content! It would be awesome if you showed do and don't pics side-by-side so we could see the comparison. Looking forward to more valuable information to keep us looking our best. Thanks!
As a petite woman I’ve always been frustrated by all the stretchy pants and decal /embroidered tops …that my 80 year old grandmother liked when I was 25. Now that I’m 50+, it hasn’t changed. Thanks for the other tips too.
I loved this video. Just turned 69 and a fashion nut! It took me a long time to learn not to wear all of these bad choices! I was laughing because I’ve worn practically everyone of them in the past and even look at old pics of myself much younger in my 40’s and 50’s and see what a bad idea it was! I actually think I dress younger and more tasteful in my present wardrobe thanks to all the tons of you tube videos I’ve watched in the past. Also get so many more compliments on my outfits than I did back then!! ❤️ you are an angel for helping older women!!😘
I would never wear any of those things. I am small and slim, no big prints, yards of huge printed fabric, no huge jewelry. I am 74 and certainly not ready for nursing home clothing yet. I love small fine jewelry, tailored classic clothing, natural fabric. You have shown a picture of my Nana's bathing suit, it was the blue, green, lavender colours all mixed together. Nana used to get in the shallow end of the pool, hold on to the cement edge and walk herself around the pool. She never learned to swim, but it cooled her down. I like you channel, very entertaining.
When it comes to bathing suits, and u know this is true, we can’t feel cute and confident in something that we are totally self-conscious wearing. So if others think we are just trying to hide our bodies (my body) they are 100% totally right! Love your videos though.
I am glad that you did not include "shawls"! Even if they are associated with "old ladies," I have worn them since I was a little girl! As for the rest of them, I NEVER wore them -- even as a teenager, in my early 20s or 30s! However, I DO have a printed hoodie that my daughter suggested which reads, "Mermaids are born in November!" that I wear with great pride and panache!
Thank you for the clarification on shrugs! Within the last several years, I have to have arm coverage & have just gone to the shrugs because it's what I wore in the past, not even thinking about whether it was a current style or not. I'm still struggling to find alternatives for all my dresses & sleeveless tops. But when I wear the shrugs now, I see how dated it looks. Thanks for all of the suggestions! Really helps to narrow things down.
Nada, it's true that you won't see those styles on the younger women because the majority of them are running around town in athletic wear. I do agree with you that the styles you gave as examples, are out of style.
On the other hand, those older women in their 60’s & 70’s with gray or white hair wearing their jean shirts or jean jackets or boho blouse outfits look AMAZING. Pinterest has a lot of pics of beautiful older women with beautiful long hair ….- I like those better than medium or short hair….- I’ve worn/done them all…..; I get huge compliments on my hair by professional people, like my doctors, as well as by complete strangers…; and my husband loves my hair. I am Age 68, now and A natural Platinum blonde. Had been a brunette when young. I have Curly, frizzy long layered hair that I tame.
No loud flowers, jungle prints, polyester, clumpy shoes, old lady handbags,, leggings (unless you're slim) or short, cutly, old lady hair, ugly wire glasses, cheap slacks, slick fabrics, sleeveless, or graphic t shirts, electric polish on long acrylic nails, red or hot pink lipstick, too much eye makeup, false lashes or junk jewelry.
I need to trust my first impressions. Almost all of the items you spoke about I was confused about, maybe appalled at, when they first came out or were popular. Thank you for this video. You have really changed the way I think about fashion and clothing.
Another great lesson in this video! I don't own any of the pieces you mentioned but somehow I receive catalogs that contain these "mature" styles. Maybe you can't call out the names of these retailers but I can! Ladies, avoid Chadwick's, Signals, L.L. Bean, and Blaire because that's where my 80-something mom shops. Along with your focus on" Is it cute?" and "Is it cool?" we should also ask ourselves "Is this something Mom would like?" and if so RUN in the opposite direction. I live in AZ where it will be 113 degrees today so I also understand the overly air conditioned setting! Thanks so much for your work and for being the voice of reason in my fashion world!!
Have to say with my body type, style dial orange, I find pants with elastic waists are typically the easiest to find a good fit, because waist is often too big if it fits on my hips.
I am 85 and have a hard time buying clothes on line. The only stores in town where I buy clothes are JJill and Talbots. I have always liked clothes with the idea of looking put together. Starting in my 80’s it has been more of a challenge, but it is a good challenge for me! Your videos have been very helpful. This last one showed me that I bought a couple of items from JJill that are too frumpy. Before I give them away, will go to a tailor. I am going to suggest your videos to my daughter, we can always learn something new! Thanks for these videos. Carole Evans❤️
@@mikeevans3607 thank you so so much for this Carole! It means a lot to me that you would share my channel with your daughter. I’m always cheering you on and love. Your intention to put together.. I think it makes such a huge difference in how we feel!
Love this video…very complete list…agree with most all of these! I agree completely with your comment that the offering of embroidered items being basically insulting. The fact that many of the items you listed are offered is insulting. Why do people suddenly decide to leave any sense of style behind?
Been keeping those rarely worn peep toe booties forever! Every summer I think I’ll wear them and I don’t. They were on sale when I bought them at The Rack and no doubt past their prime then! Into the donation bag!
You are correct about every single clothes category you mentioned! I am finally going to donate my expensive Athleta elastic waist pants. Thanks for the encouragement!
Thank-you! I've been looking at my outfits wondering what doesn't work, but couldn't put my finger on it, though I shop at expensive stores (yes, aimed at the over fifty crowd). My wardrobe has at least three of these mistakes, so those items will go into my donate box. It's frustrating that as we get older we have more disposable income, but look less stylish!
I shop at stores that are higher end but don't aim for the older crowd. That way I won't end up getting something that will date me or make me look frumpy.
These are awesome ideas for keeping us classy! I’m 60 and I like dressing up to date! And I’m not sure why anyone would be negative about any of these suggestions. Why watch, if you are gonna wear what you’ve always worn. 🤷🏻♀️ and that’s ok to wear what you want. But why stop by this channel just to be negative? I know most of us watch because we appreciate a fresh perspective.
Nada, I'm so happy to have found you. This is the second video of yours that I have watched and found it very helpful to be warned what to stay away from. I'm in my mid-70s and look younger than my age except for the crepey skin that has developed on my underarms (in the last year) will be a dead giving away of advanced age. Everything in my summer wardrobe is sleeveless and I'm at a loss as to the best way to dress now. Elegant clothing for my age group is already very difficult to find and I really don't look forward to always be looking for sleeves. As someone else has said, we are of the age that can afford to purchase quality clothing for our age but it's difficult to find. Oh! what to do? I hope you can counsel those of us with the "creeping crepey arms". Speaking of crepey, our knees are getting there too! With capris and bermuda shorts out of style, are crepey knees IN?
Capris and bermudas are so aging. All the dowdy ladies wear these. You will never catch me in any of these. I was 14 last time I wore shorts. Maybe it's because I'm European, but i never understood the appeal of shorts on adults. If it's hot, I wear linen pants. I couldn't stand sweaty legs rubbing against each other, anyway.😆
This was fun! Can we add those stretchy fitted button downs with the sleeves pre "rolled" with the little button on the side of the sleeve to keep it "rolled"? My mother wears those and I'm always begging her to let me remove that silly sleeve button! Thankfully, she does because she trusts my opinion. Probably because she's my mom. 😊
Hello Nada, always love your perspectives. Many times I follow your advice. It’s true no one has to wear what they don’t want but the more insightful information that people like you share the better. IMHO
Thank you for this great info. Iam 81. I have always been into minilest style. These videos will always make sure iam on right track. You are so right that there are many options with stylish vibes.
Ya, I completely disagree with the shrug evaluation. I make most of my garments and am very careful about the prints, size of stripes etc. I’m not worried about looking older no matter my age. I notice PEOPLE, their attitude, their countenance not if the clothes are dated. I’d rather have a kind, compassionate friend who dresses in any era than an up to date flake.
There is that, but when you feel you are true to yourself, and not looking like mutton dressed as a lamb,…. Your own decision can outweigh the weight of their thoughts. Case in point, I wear skirts above my knees; Not micro minis or the style now that is so short. At a new church the first time I wore a midi skirt. Second time, an above the knee by a couple of inches ( I am 5’7”) , and I certainly got a few unkind looks. One of those woman made a point to tell me that she bought HER dress at goodwill. That bothered me; but I am who I am; and it’s not dressing to please the clique. I was decently dressed in a sweater dress that was loose.
Always hate, hate, hated peep toe booties! I succumbed to 1 pair (inexpensive) when they were in and found they were wearable for about 3 days in Minnesota. I've found nothing says "I was 40 in 2010" like peep toe booties and a cold shoulder top.
I’ve been using denim shirts, classic white shirts, and a bold stripe from Rag and Bone as third pieces. To me, less frumpy than cardigans and I just like the colors! Not afraid to show my arms just get hot then cold due to air conditioning, etc.
Thank you for giving a great comprehensive and overall look at what to avoid… I agree with your advice.. you wouldn’t believe how many times I look at various clothing catalogs and say to myself” that is god hideous “..ugly..nobody will look good in that!..
Hey Nada. Another great video and again, I disagree on one point, the chiffon top. The one you showed is horrendous but i have a chiffon, semi baggy, pink and white chiffon shirt which i wear over a white spaghetti strap west and tucked in to the front of white jeans. I love it and i get comments, complimentary ones, whenever i wear this outfit. Other than MY chiffon shirt, I agree chiffon is hideous lol 😊
Ok. You're on your first point... no elastic waistband. Well, I gotta ask for sine guidance. I think that button pants with zippers add pounds to my belly.
I LOVED this video and glad it was recommended by the YT algorithm! Can't agree more about the stores for mature women. I scratch my head at the frump mixed in -- and women do buy it.
Yay! I feel like I'm catching on. I purchased 3 of those exact Everlane pants mentioned at the beginning of the video and I really do love them. They are wonderful winter office pants.
I just cleaned out my closet….two large bags full going to donate. And ordered a pair of Everlane miracle pants to try out. I work in IT and sit at a computer all day, I have to be comfortable in the waist. Thanks for the common sense, great advice! :)
I wear wonderful clothes that fit, most are new, I plan to stop a lot of previous shopping! The cowgirl western boot and shoes are great at any age. Fit is everything!
Thank you for showing me the way on printed Ts. Now I know why I didn't have a good day when I wear them. They make me feel frumpy! Time to throw all of them away! I'm only 52 and need to feel younger!
100% agree on the embroidered tops, my over 80 aunt wears those and I really want to sneak into her rest home, find them, burn them and get her something that actually is cute and flattering.
I didn’t know what I would find here…always suspicious of people telling me what I should and shouldn’t wear but I was pleasantly surprised! I agreed with everything you said. Now, if only I COULD find polyester pull-on slacks for my 91 year old mother. The slim leg styles and mid-rise just won’t work for her.
What’s crazy to me is Torrid, my reliable store for fit (and used to have fun clothing imo), has been selling so many of these! So many freaking shrugs, all-over-pattern shirts… matchy matchy stuff… it’s freaking me out a little because I thought I could rely on them for what’s in style, and I’m realizing I can’t!! Now it’s just another store offering dodgy out of style shit and you have to be really careful shopping there!
@@NatashaCreatesThings that is super super frustrating. it’s really nice to have go to stores that feel reliable and it’s maddening when they start dabbling in bad clothes. Fortunately, there are brands that are offering a wide range of sizes, including plus sizes that were not before like anthropology, for example. But I definitely agree with you that that is super frustrating.
I agree with all your choices. I run into an issue with my clothing. I am still a size 2 in jeans and well over fifty. I go the opposite direction for many of the clothes are overly youthful. I weed out my closet every season with clothes that look foolish on me. Thanks for your video.
I work where you have to wear black pants and an issued top. I'm small and 65. I have the exact same cargo pants at work as my coworker who just graduated high school! I think we both look great! (the pants I wear when I'm not at work are also cargo. No more purse carrying for me! Too dangerous in my city. Wallet in one leg, phone in the other, and keys clipped to belt loop. Good to go!)
Very interesting list. I whole-heartedly agree with what you say. One negative, please adjust your dress before you film, as it was gaping open. Otherwise, I really found you in line with my thinking.
I’ve been loving these videos on what not to wear because it’s too OLD and out of date! I’m so proud that I really never wore most of these trends to begin with (I did love the cold shoulder tops but I got rid of them even before you told me to), But peep toe booties? Those tiered dresses? Nah. I also really love the kinds of clothes that are in style lately. Very classic and easy to wear and style. Thanks for this channel!
Just happened on your video, and intend to keep following...such hard truths! But can only agree 100 percent..i bought an elasticated skirt recently , it's dire...aged me years(and made my backside look huge) ...i agree with every single criticism on that list...
Disclaimer: I'm not in my 50's .... but I think these apply to fashion/dressing for MOST age groups (I dont really believe in 'dressing for your age' anyway) but most of these are simply not current trends, in general. For anyone. 20 or 50+ (if ya make it past i dunno... 70? do what you want. literally. embroidered butterflies and flowers and all (my mother wears these constantly but has never had any sense of style. shes worn them as long as i can remember) lol that said, one of my best friends wears SO MANY of these things and im like ughhhhhhhhhhh then my other best friend (who will admit she has zero sense of style and doesn't care) lives in t shirts with words on it and .... cartoon characters. I just sigh and hang my head and we go about our day when we're together LOL
I agree with all of your advice however I have seen ladies who are large and their options are matronly! The fashion industry can be cruel to women who are heavy. I salute those who “find a way” to be styled !
I recently found your channel and absolutely love it!! It is quickly becoming my favorite fashion resource. The information is realistic, useful, and totally relates to me. The format is perfect. Lots of information in a short time frame, well presented with examples and specific suggestions. The information is different from other channels yet very applicable to me and other women. Please keep making these great videos!
Thank you so much Glenda! I truly appreciate it. My goal is to give as much useful information as I can in each video. I am so glad you have found my channel!
I'm a firm believer in wearing what you like, and what you feel comfortable in. If those 2 criteria are checked off, then you will feel confident and you will look good. Regardless of "trends"...if we stick to classic styles, they are timeless and elegant. Well-fitting items of clothing make us feel good. Don't let anybody tell you what you can or should, or shouldn't wear! As far as a classic "striped tee"...how I want to like them, but just don't. I'm petite at 5'2" and weigh around 170 with an apple shape. The only way I can pull off horizontal stripes is when I cover most of it with a cardigan or a jacket. And just forget about anything tucked in! Don't even get me started on that...from the front - looks good. But that side angle is horrendous! Ladies, wear what you like and what YOU feel good in!
I know you're right, but I have so many statement necklaces, and it's time to say goodbye 😢! Also guilty of the pull on pants that try to look like jeans but aren't. Those need to go too! Thanks for your direct honesty ❤!
You must be from Texas! 😄 I’m from NJ and currently live in Texas. Texans talk at a snails pace. It’s like watching grass grow. This woman gets everything out there quickly and efficiently so we can watch and move on!!
It really doesn’t matter what speed you listen at. We all have our preferences. Your comment was negative and unnecessary. She is providing free content. Either say thank you or say nothing at all.
Great video and I agree with almost everything, except that I do still like the convenience of a shrug ( I have one in white and one in black). Very handy to have in those way too cold air conditioned restaurants. And, they are small enough to bring on a trip and fit right into a small back pack for those "day" outings. ....it serves its purpose. Or, it is convenient to take when going to an outdoor concert.
I agree with about 15% of what you suggested. A shrug is now called a bolero. I would rock my black or khaki one with a sleeveless cotton t in white cream or tan., add dressy pants in a neutral tone, brown, khaki, apricot, gray and you have a nice classy outfit. Peep toed shoes still look great with Skinny jeans. I would slso wear them with wide legged pants or bell bottoms. In my 60s, I wished I'd kept classic neutral colored clothesthat are hot and trendy advertised on Thredup and poshmark. Those clothes are genuine cotton, wool, cashmere and not the cheap flimsy material clothes are made of today. Has anyone found a store or website that has genuine all cotton or wool? Please let me know. Bottom line, if you are still young enough, pack some of our stuff away, wait 8-10 yrs. Unpack and rock it You'll save lots of money!!!
As an European we stay simple with no prints. Well fitting jeans (when you find the right designer) and a T shirt, tailored that is, again no prints, stripes only solid colors.
I wear a size 2x and have difficulty finding classic styles. I cannot get around well to go shopping all the time, so I am limited to ordering from catalogs. What a mess!
I think that there are some really cool ways to cover your arms. And if your petite shrugs are not a bad option. I have some from Amazon that look great. Aso bathing suit cover ups work really well sometimes especially in hot climates. Dont get bogged down in thinking because it is in a certain catagory that's all it is good for. Use your imagination. I wish I could share a pic. Cheers
There are definitely exceptions to all of these rules. I’m talking about a very specific type of shrug here but if you found a style that works for you, you should go for it
That reminds me of a country concert I attended. A gal was wearing a crocheted long kimono type coverup with her denim shorts and boots, and my male friend said --look, she's wearing a tablecloth and he and his buddy had a good laugh! Sometimes you just can't win!
Some hair stylists recommend women over 50 not wearing their hair very long but rather cut it to a lob, bob etc…Given that she was telling the viewers what to not wear over fifty, I’m surprised she didn’t mention her choice for a “younger hairstyle”.

@@NadaManley Where is your catalog?
I am a plus size woman of 59.75 yrs and I refuse to set foot in the over 50 stores.I would rather poke out my eyes than being seen in any of the frumpy things they aim at us 🤬
I am 65. I am 5 foot 2 and weight 97 pounds. Old people's clothing is made WAY too big for me. And it looks bad! I rock cargo pants. I shop at Garage.....I have 2 pairs of pants from there that I've worn constantly for over 2 years and they wash well. They aren't junk. I'll wear what I like.
“Geranimals for adults” caused a head thrown back howl of laughter! Thank you for that perfect analogy that had never occurred to me before!
The struggle is hard enough to find affordable quality!
@@debrap7137 agree!! I do love Quince for affordable quality clothes. But it is truly hard to find nice clothes at reasonable prices.
This part. They need to stop thinking "worn-out housewife" and start thinking "CEO." At our age we should have our life in order and be in charge of what's happening around us - and if we're not, we should at least be allowed to dress like we are!
Thank you! Some of these "styles" were out of style as soon as they appeared. If all else fails just remember: simple, yet elegant.
Agree! Thanks for the comment!
QVC is the major fashion offender of all fashion no no's! I'm always shocked when I see their clothes.
I need to take a look for inspiration lol. I haven’t checked that in a while.
Exactly right. Funny, I was thinking of QVC while watching this.
It's all large baggy shirts & cropped pants & clunky sandals
Wear what suits you, don't be a slave to fickle fashion. Stay true to your style your colours and your personality.
Xx
Ahh! Thank you Janine! I’m so glad you like this. Kind of video and understand why I’m doing them. I will definitely be doing more!
You know where else I've seen these clothes? In a store for women who are vertically challenged like my 5'1 self. 😂 always with those little tiny flowers or the matchy-matchy. 😅
❤ the vid!
Always love your straightforward talk and passion. Your years of experience as a true stylist, not RUclips salesperson, show through!
Good memory of your Nan. Glad she was part of the fun.
We were knitting these as beginners back in the 50's! Hideous then and now.
Same here, but this video helped me to make the final decision to part ways with my shrug!
Gosh I think they look timeless and elegant. They are so slimming, too.
@@Kate-lk6tw Yes. Eventually a classic, depending on the cut and style.
Nada, it's true that you won't see those styles on the younger women because the majority of them are running around town in athletic wear. I do agree with you that the styles you gave as examples, are out of style.
Advice is great!!!
Here’s a bit of advice from a licensed cosmetologist- lose 10” of your long hair. That’s dated, too, imho.
I agree about the length of the hair. Doesn't have to be short but maybe cut to shoulder length would be more flattering.
Everybody knows that long, beautiful hair is timeless. Long hair is the ideal for women.
I was thinking that as well
And that extremely loud lipstick is horrible on those thin lips. Her arm movements are obnoxious. Hard to watch.
Just learning by observing others! 🙂
NCD. Not. Caught. Dead. Look at a Ralph Lauren runway show, those looks, and you'll get the idea.
Nada’s lipstick color is not pretty. It makes her look way older than what she may be.
NOTHING says 'grandma' quicker than those embroidered sweatshirts.
What is wrong with grandma?
Well said. 😉
Chicos and Talbots too! LOL!
Some advice: Don’t buy clothes at Cracker Barrel.
😂
Have to say with my body type, style dial orange, I find pants with elastic waists are typically the easiest to find a good fit, because waist is often too big if it fits on my hips.
And visa versa.
@@patriciawhite9668 Yes, the waist is almost always too tight if I want the hips and legs to fit right right! I'm an apple!
Every time I watch your channel you help me purge more stuff…thanks!
I used to have a few of those tiered ruffle tops and peep toe booties. I had 1 or 2 big plastic necklaces. I don't know what I was thinking.
Thank you for the comment! I’m so glad you found it helpful!
Sad about the cut out booties. I love mine, but I totally get it. Im 66 amd feel modern. Thank you for your work and for sharing helpful tips! ❤
Thank you SO MUCH! I truly appreciate the comment. My goal is to help us all look modern and stylish. :) So glad you found my channel.
Omygoodness yes!!! Totally adding those to the list! Thank you so much for the comment!
Oh dear...im going to remove those buttons TODAY !!... you're right of course..x
Lol! When young, She probably wore Banana Republic tops ( like I did/do)… it’s ageless…
Great video, Nada! Your points and examples make your style tips come to light. (My shrug is going in the donation bag right after dinner!)
Hello Nada, always love your perspectives. Many times I follow your advice. It’s true no one has to wear what they don’t want but the more insightful information that people like you share the better. IMHO
Thank you so much! I appreciate the comment! I will keep sharing these so we can all try to make the best choices for our wardrobes.
Thank you for this great info. Iam 81. I have always been into minilest style. These videos will always make sure iam on right track. You are so right that there are many options with stylish vibes.
Thank you so much Pat! I am so glad you are here! Yes, there are better alternatives for everything on this list :)
Great video Nada. Sometimes your comments just crack me up. Thanks you made my day.😄😉
Ya, I completely disagree with the shrug evaluation.
This is great! I recognize so many of these things. The stores really keep repeat offenders coming, so sad. Keep up the great work!
You forgot # 1. The weight of other people’s thoughts and opinions on what you wear.
Imma wear whatever I want it's all about feeling
Always hate, hate, hated peep toe booties! I succumbed to 1 pair (inexpensive) when they were in and found they were wearable for about 3 days in Minnesota. I've found nothing says "I was 40 in 2010" like peep toe booties and a cold shoulder top.
I’ve been using denim shirts, classic white shirts, and a bold stripe from Rag and Bone as third pieces. To me, less frumpy than cardigans and I just like the colors!
Not afraid to show my arms just get hot then cold due to air conditioning, etc.
I absolutely agree with you! Refreshing to find you.
Thank you for giving a great comprehensive and overall look at what to avoid… I agree with your advice.. you wouldn’t believe how many times I look at various clothing catalogs and say to myself” that is god hideous “..ugly..nobody will look good in that!..
I’m so glad you enjoyed it! There is so much out there that is bad. Trying to help us make good choices!
Tonight I am going thru my closet & getting rid of some clothes!
“No, Just no! “ 😄I would agree on all 10 of your points.
Ok. You're on your first point... no elastic waistband. Well, I gotta ask for sine guidance. I think that button pants with zippers add pounds to my belly.
Send me an email. I'd love to help. I think it's fit that makes the difference. :) nada@nadamanley.com
I LOVED this video and glad it was recommended by the YT algorithm! Can't agree more about the stores for mature women. I scratch my head at the frump mixed in -- and women do buy it.
Nada you are 500 percent correct. Glad I found you!
Love this channel! I am new and am 69 years old. So glad you are addressing these issues!
Thank you so much! So happy you are here!
Yay! I feel like I'm catching on. I purchased 3 of those exact Everlane pants mentioned at the beginning of the video and I really do love them. They are wonderful winter office pants.
Thank you for this video!! I am moving so its a great time to clear out clothes, jewelry, etc..
I have a few shrugs that I never wear. I will definitely be getting rid of them now.
Those classic cowboy boots have been around for 200 years.
Agree with most of your comments…….and love your sense of humour.❤
Thank you!! We have to be able to laugh at ourselves and at some of the crazy clothes out there. I so appreciate your comment!
Oh I just really live your videos..
Yes, in regards to shrugs, glitter probably should be ket go of ???
@@NadaManleyyesss!! anthropology has such cute clothes!
Some really good points. Oh dear, I think I may have to start a wardrobe cull 😂
EXCELLENT video Nada! I loved and agree with every point you made. By the way, you look beautiful today and as always, I just love your hair!
You are so kind! Thank you! I’m so glad you found it helpful and I so appreciate the comment!
I so agree with everything you said. Great video!!
Helpful video because you give examples of what not to do. Thanks
Glad it was helpful! Thank you so much for the comment!
I agree with all of your advice however I have seen ladies who are large and their options are matronly! The fashion industry can be cruel to women who are heavy. I salute those who “find a way” to be styled !
The Brooklyn pant from Athleta. I have four pairs at least. So comfy, elastic waist but way good looking, lots of positive reviews.

I'm over 70 , i wish you would show more of what to wear ,if we don't wear a shrug what do we wear ?
She said wear a knitted, cardigan sweater with buttons or a nice, light jacket.
Hey! I've done a whole video on this. ruclips.net/video/jfBICQ9rLyg/видео.html
Thank you! Yes!
I completely agree with everything you’ve said. 😊
I agree with about 15% of what you suggested. A shrug is now called a bolero. I would rock my black or khaki one with a sleeveless cotton t in white cream or tan., add dressy pants in a neutral tone, brown, khaki, apricot, gray and you have a nice classy outfit. Peep toed shoes still look great with
Skinny jeans.
Unpack and rock it
You'll save lots of money!!!
Could you show us some jackets (alternatives to shrugs) that are good for hot summer weather? The ones I have are too warm!
@@SIMARSONG haha ...if we took a mans advice we would never look cute.
Some hair stylists recommend women over 50 not wearing their hair very long but rather cut it to a lob, bob etc…Given that she was telling the viewers what to not wear over fifty, I’m surprised she didn’t mention her choice for a “younger hairstyle”.
@@LJ-xr5th I don't understand this obsession with scoping out "what not to wear" Should we write a book " Dressing over 50 for dummies?" Omg so over it here on You Tube. Let's just dress for ourselves and call it a day.
Yes, totally agree…all old lady clothes for sure!
