TJ that's an aftermarket HID conversion kit with a ballast and igniter. Simply take it out and plug and play your new bulb

I'm talking about the one that he took off his Z. It's an aftermarket HID conversion kit. All he had to do from the beginning is take it off and then it's all plug and play with the Auxbeam LED bulbs.

Those two connectors you cut off are for the ballasts for the HIDs that you took out. No one fucked anything up. You just didn't take out everything lol

Your Z already has HIDs lol. You were supposed to remove all of the wires and the ballast to get to the original wires

xPandahaha If anything, the LED's are gonna be a downgrade. His lights were probably just dim because they were the original bulbs. New bulbs for HID's is like a night and day difference.
Shawn Carson Could of replaced the HID bulbs for $30 too. As soon as he took out the bulbs from the Headlights I knew they were HIDs. I didnt know if Z's came with HIDs from factory or not
xPandahaha From 06-08, I believe all Z's came with Xenon's from the factory. Even a lot of the 03-05's came with them as well, although with a different projector and bulb layout.
I don't know how it is in the USA, but in Europe, all 350Z has got HID/Xenon from the factory.

I have two sets of them. They work fine and keep the car very stable. They are the same shit as any other jack stand.

tools are tools they all break no matter what brand and those stands are fine never had a prob with mine
Sorry but one thing I don't cheap out on is my safety. Even if they would never break or fall over, I'm still going buy the best stands so It'll never feel sketchy when I'm under my car. Just my opinion.
And I have seen harbor freight stands split on the base where they're welded. Probably cause they used a harbor freight welder to make them. No one was hurt btw.

The lights you originally had in your z were HIDs. The new lights that you are putting in there are LEDs because they have resistors and a fan on the end of the bulb to keep it cool. With standard halogen headlight bulbs the hard wire connects directly into the bulb. With HIDs you plug the hard wire into the ballast and the ballast into the bulbs. The ballast powers the HIDs because they burn hotter. You need to unplug your old ballast (power box) and plug the new leds lights into the hard wire coming out of your z. Having you new LED light rigged into your ballast is bad. Led lights are. It meant to be powered by HID ballast (what you called power box. I would advise redoing this and doing it the right wait before you have an electrical fire.

You guys screwed up the second you started touching the new bulbs with your bare hands. The oils in your skin getting on the glass will severely shorten the life of the bulb. And it's not "bunk" wires. You just don't know what you're doing. From the looks of it, the previous HID system was hooked up perfectly. They were working weren't they? Smh

I can't believe they didn't blow the new transformer and/or bulbs. That was some luck. Haha
It looks like they used LED headlight bulbs which do not have the halogen gas in them. So it shouldn't matter that they touched the new bulbs, but you are correct that you should never touch a regular halogen bulb or HID bulb with your bare hands.
Yeah you're right they are LED bulbs. But it is good practice to never touch the actual glass on the bulbs. It'd be my luck even an LED would mess up if I touched it. Haha
Maybe your lights are so dim because your headlights are so darn oxidised....

FYI: Remove the front tires the wheel well splash guards. To access the back of the head light housing with out removing headlight.

It's just aftermarket HID's, that box was the ballast which was needed to power the aftermarket bulbs. It is an upgrade, if done correctly. LED's (which you have now) have came a long way and are now extremely bright to the point that it can be a bit overkill.

I cry everytime someone uses those shitty crimp connectors. instead of soldering.
LinusScrubTips generally your supposed to crimp (and heat wrap/insulate) wires in cars where you can because solder fractures and cracks over time, though yes, those box sets of connectors are garbage most the time. really inconstant quality wise
I always solder, cover the joint in grease, then heatshrink it. My issue is when people use the those double ended crimps for putting wires together. Like for instance on our boat trailer. When we bought it guess what it had on it? 15 year old crimps. That were rotted and completely junk. I guarantee my solder joints and splices will outlast those shitty crimps. I only use the connector crimps (the eyelets etc) and when I do I remove the plastic insulation, crimp it, flow solder inside, grease it, then put heatshrink over it. But ya I get what you're saying. Especially in areas of high heat that cool and heat quickly (IE engine bays). But the crimp on lets say a Deutsche connectors pins are a 100000000 times better and the connectors are sealed with o rings.

I've been apprenticing for a remote start install technician for a while now and time after time, people come to our shop with the frustrations of the remote starter that they had installed by a cut-rate tech no longer working . And almost 100% of the time, it's because that technician used either crimp connectors or t-taps which are nowhere near as reliable as a solder joint and will eventually fail due to the thousands of vibrations that a car experiences in day to day use.
tl;dr always solder even if using a crimp connector, hell you can do both if you want.

danny10202 whenever I crimp I solder too. I talked to the electrical guys on my SAE team (society of automotive engineers) and they said pretty much to always solder.

That was just a basic aftermarket HID kit. That big black box was the ballast, and there would have been a smaller box which would have been the igniter (usually). You got lucky they didn't get damages since the ballast pushes a lot of voltage to ignite(some times a danger sticker say 24000 Volts) the HID bulbs before levelling out to 12-14V.

Hey Tj you might want to consider going back and putting some heat shrink at the bottom of those female terminals that you crimped on, that plugs into the headlight bulb, just in case since those crimped terminals will be exposed to the elements. The last thing you need is some corroded wires. Might also wrap some wire harness tape around the terminal itself too.
What lift are you going with? I just put one in my home garage.

tj if those are LED they dont plug in like HID, they just plug right into the factory harness. you need to remove the HID wiring.

Those old hids that were in there have the right wiring, most hid kits come with that wiring and a ballast or "transformer" to just adjust output for hids. But yea you shouldn't need both of those ballasts.

I wouldn't use harbor freight jacks if you're working under the cars. Ive heard of the welds cracking, I would go to sears and get some craftsman stuff instead.
