I hate to sound like a hater, but shouldn't you have removed battery first and hounded yourself when first picking up the CPU? I'm getting to do the same upgrades to mine did ram and SSD already, thanks for the video!
I've used my Inspiron 1545 with a Pentium T4400 and 3GB of RAM since I got it back in 2010. I'm going to buy 8GB of RAM and a Core 2 Duo T9900, which are pretty cheap for being maximum spec for this PC. I've stayed with this laptop and used it because I can tolerate slow speeds, but I can make my system run quite well, so it's not much of a problem. I _love_ the design of it, which is why I've never switched computers. Investing around $180 is fine by me and I look forward to installing these components. I think this is certainly better than getting a new one, I really miss glossy, thick, heavy laptops (not the 1909s lap-crushers, but the mid-late-2000s laptops which make your lap warm, like a cat) and my Dell just _works_ well and I love it.
@@TheMisphit I am aware of this; I've bought 2 4GB sticks for my 1545 for around $180 AUD. My main point is that 8GB _will work_ in the PC, and others have done it. Price is not _too_ much of a problem for me, the more annoying part is finding laptop sized sticks, and making sure they clock as slow as 800MHz, RAM has since gotten a lot faster, and 800MHz is harder and harder to find and buy.
I definitely agree with about the design. I really love how easy it is to swap out ram, cpu and hard drive and of course clean the fans. I bought 2x4gb 800 ram for 80euro, a 480gb ssd for 60euro and plan to get a used t9900 for 50euro. I don't mind spending 200euro on this laptop, especially since my brother just gave it to me when he upgraded. I'm still running windows 7 and I'm really loving the performance of this laptop. The only downside is that you can't play the vast majority of games, but there are a few reallly good ones that can run just fine on lower graphics settings.
After doing this changes does it work for video editing? I have the same model and I'm debating whether I should buy me a new one for video editing or try this. Hope you can answer. Thanks!
Although it does work for some light video editing, if you are working with footage shot from modern day cameras, such as 4k 60fps footage, I wouldn't recommend using it as a workstation. This computer is great, but it is still limited in what it can do (it's over 10 years old!). Another thing to be concerned about is the heat. This processor can get pretty hot, and overheating may be an issue with video editing. With that said, it does work surprisingly well with footage 720p and under. I've tested this myself. So if you can find the processor for cheap, and are working with lower-quality footage, you should be okay. If you're doing some serious work, you're definitely going to want a newer machine though!
Video editing and applications like Blender and Unity aren't going to be the best - even with max CPU, RAM and a new SSD. The problem is the GPU of the laptop, it's not replaceable. And it's not great either. It was designed for work with documents and web browsing, not games and video editing. I'd say you could still get along with doing some light editing though...
I did the exact same as shown in the video. Same laptop, same CPU. Pressed the power button, the power light flashed and went out and turned on. Heard the harddisk run for a few seconds. Then it stopped. Screen is blank. Laptop does not load. Bought a used CPU online. Help please!!
Great job! I have a 11 years old Dell Inspiron 1545 with a T9600 Processor, 4GB RAM and two 240GB SSD. I replaced my DVD drive by a Caddy and installed an other SSD on it. It runs Windows 10 fine. I intend install 8GB RAM, but it's very dificult to find 2X4GB DDR2 modules.
@@TheEric03041 i tried windows 10 for a while but it was slow too. I tried everything, although this was before i maxed out the ram and put in an ssd. I think it's just the drivers, they don't make them anymore for this laptop and they don't work well with win10. In the end i went back to windows 7, 8gb of ram + ssd and I'm extremely happy with the performance
I'm using a Pentium T4400 that came with it. My operating system is currently 64-bit. The maximum CPU the Inspiron 1545 can handle is a Core 2 Duo T9900. (There are two more processors which fit the socket of this laptop; but they aren't any faster and they use more power than the computer gives - so they wouldn't work anyway...) See www.cpu-upgrade.com/CPUs/Intel/Pentium_Dual-Core_Mobile/T4400.html for the list of CPUs that fit that socket. A look around on eBay will show you some kind-of sketchy, but apparently reputable sellers who sell T9900s; I found one here for ~$70.00 (USD) with the eBay item number `124398295829` (I'm not going to put in the full link because it's huge. To find a product by item number, just search the number I gave in the eBay search bar at the top) The T9900 is a 64-bit CPU too, and I believe it's ever so slightly more power efficient too; but that doesn't matter in a computer this old, my battery only lasts 50 minutes. I think there are some other more technical improvements aside from the clock speed improvement up to 3.06GHz too...
Hi, I'm Silverio from Argentina. How lucky you have been, congratulations on such a descriptive video. A question: I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop with A17 Bios update, with Interl Core 2 duo T7100 - 1.80 / 1M / 800 processor. As you received from Ebay a T9600 - 2.80 / 6M / 1066 processor. I did exactly what you did on that laptop; but the computer boots up and shows only the power light and nothing else, the screen goes black. I have tried various things. Relieve static by removing the battery, disconnecting the AC cable and pressing the start button for 15/20 seconds to discharge the static. I have checked the Bios and I think everything is correct. Can you tell me if this T9600 processor is compatible with the Inspiron 1525? If it is, then they put the dog in me, as we say in Argentina jahhh! and the processor does not work. Do you have any solution? I will appreciate your prompt response if you have it. What a pandemic and cordial virtual greeting. :)>
Hi Silverio, thanks for your comment! I am sorry to hear that you're having issues with this. The first thing I would try, is to replace the OLD processor if you still have it, and make sure everything still works correctly. If the old processor still works in the computer (T7100), it may be a faulty new processor (T9600), or something may have been installed incorrectly. If this is the case, you can try to re-seat it and re-install. If the old processor fails, this could mean that something else happened during your installation, such as ram or wires disconnecting, or (god forbid) something shorted on the motherboard. You said you can access the bios, which is a good sign. Are you able to see processor information in the bios? This could mean that the OS needs to be replaced (you could try booting into linux from a live USB to test). Sometimes Windows acts strange when changing hardware. Try this, and let me know. I wish you luck!

Did u check the wattage??? It could be because a higher end processor puts out more heat.... So the fan I always running at maximum speed to compensate for the heat... It could also be an issue with ur cooling assembly
I have this laptop and I am using it from the past 8 years. Problem within this laptop is that 1. It struggles while playing videos online. How much of a difference did it make ?? Is it worth it or do I just go t8300 or something like that because you can’t upgrade gpu can you cheers for the vid
The difference is night and day. It feels like a brand new computer, besides the graphics drawbacks. Although, I should note that also have 4gb ram in this machine, and more importantly, I also have an SSD. Frankly, out of all upgrades you can do with this machine, an SSD makes the biggest difference. Invest in an SSD before the CPU. I already had an SSD, and wanted to upgrade more, so I got the CPU. This processor cost me $60 on eBay and for me, this was much better than buying a new machine. If you also have a T4200, then a T8300/T8700/T8800 would be a great upgrade, and probably worth it. Replacing it is fun too!

If you have the version with the Celeron CPU, it's useless. The only way to use it now is to replace it with a Core 2 Duo. If you have a C2D and it still runs poorly, there's something else wrong, probably with Windows itself.
Can you also get those necessary components via Amazon? I don't have ebay... 😬 I'm just not technical at all and I want to upgrade my inspiron without buying a totally new laptop... 🙏
I don't believe there are any Core 2 Duo T9900s on Amazon. eBay will be your only option. Anyway, to buy off of eBay - all I believe you need is a credit/debit card or PayPal, it's not bad. You are on the right track for upgrading your Inspiron like I am. With maximum RAM (8GB) and a T9900 (3.06 GHz), it'll be up to par with some modern-day computers. The only problem with upgrading the 1545 is that the GPU can't be upgraded; so you're stuck at that, which will make modern-day games and GPU-intensive programs - like Unity, Unreal Engine, Blender, and basically all video editors - all very hard and slow to use.

I hate to sound like a hater, but shouldn't you have removed battery first and hounded yourself when first picking up the CPU?
I'm getting to do the same upgrades to mine did ram and SSD already, thanks for the video!
Yup, you're completely right and i'm really glad you said this!
You cannot run 8GB on the Dell 1545. Maximum RAM is 4GB PC6400.
@@TheMisphit The maximum RAM is 4GB _per slot_ up to 800MHz.
@@toydotgame 4GB DDR2 Modules are very expensive to buy, especially in pairs
Which BIOS version are you using, mine is on A11 and I'm thinking of upgrading it to A13
hi John, I have Dell Latitude e5500 currently running core 2 duo P8700 2.53Ghz. Can I upgrade the cpu to core 2 extreme or if not T9900?
Its worth? Dell 1545 intel pentium dual core 2.0 ghz to t9900 3.06 should upgrade 26$ ? In 2024 for normal office use ?
Only for fun/hobby, if you need something for office use, get a Macbook Air.
Hi Moeed, I replied to your comment on my other video with this machine! Hope it helps!

Mine came with a pentium, is that t9900 the max cpu for that laptop, can it hold 64 bit os? Can you leave us a link to that processor?
To find a product by item number, just search the number I gave in the eBay search bar at the top)
The T9900 is a 64-bit CPU too, and I believe it's ever so slightly more power efficient too; but that doesn't matter in a computer this old, my battery only lasts 50 minutes. I think there are some other more technical improvements aside from the clock speed improvement up to 3.06GHz too...
where did you buy that processor?
You can get them on eBay but they aren't cheap.

Hey mate, did you notice your cpu fan running more? And also harder? As soon as I got my old T6400 it goes back to normal
I can't watch 720p 60fps youtube videos in any browser. 2nd CPU usage goes up quickly whenever I load any website. 3. You just can't do editing work.. Simple editing takes hours. How much of a difference did it make ?? Is it worth it or do I just go t8300 or something like that because you can’t upgrade gpu can you cheers for the vid
Or p8800, p8700
